So, this just came out on Netflix.

Wasn't sure how to feel about it after the first episode, but it's slowly growing on me.

What do you guys think?

I'm excited. I'm gonna start watching it tonight. I have faith. They've changed cast so many times in the past and never lost the feel of the show, so I'm sure it will still be good. Plus the fact that they're legit, fan funded and produced by the same people. I can't imagine it being crap. They got rebooted the right way.

Yeah, the casting is great. Specifically the new Crow, he sounds very similar.

Sort of weird how easy Crow is to replace.

I love it so far, on the third episode at the moment. The different voices and look threw me off at first, but once they were in the theater I was hooked. I really like the guy they got for Crow, too. I'm still not sold on Servo's voice, it reminds me of the odd feeling I got when I first went back to watch Weinstein-era MST3K after knowing Kevin Murphy as Servo for my whole life prior. That second episode movie was something else, though. Hideous movie but the riffs were great.

Really looking forward to watching the rest of the episodes, here's hoping Netflix greenlights a second season.

For Servo, Crow, and the human, it's four times, excluding the reboot of course.

Well I'm about half an hour into the first episode and it looks like over-produced masturbatory Nerd-Chic trash that's lacking the self-awareness to pull off the deadpan cheese it's trying pander to its nostalgia humping audience. Dear god that "cryptid rap" gave me cancer.

It's as good as it ever was. Do you not remember how terrible 99% of the skits have always been. But yeah that was pretty bad. But overall I think it's pretty good, it's just that Jonah doesn' thave the stoned/deadpan demeanor the previous hosts did pretty well.
That being said, I still like it, I liked the first episode.
You just want to hate it clearly.

Honestly I enjoyed the skits more than I usually do. The only complaints I have are that the jokes seemed a little less rapid fire (in the beginning anyways) and was lacking that midwestern charm. I still really liked it. Pretty hard to be cynical about such a goofy show.

Going to get nice and sloshed today and watch more episodes.

Felicia Day can't camp it up properly or deadpan it up properly.

I was about to shut it off five minutes in and I actually like Felicia Day but then Tom Servo had the line about being able to fly but only in the theater room, and that made me laugh enough to give it a few more minutes. Then by halfway through the first episode, I was hooked again.

The premise is that the host is stuck in space and being forced to watch horrible movies, and he only has a couple of robot pals to keep him company, that he's made from spare parts on his ship. There's a little bit of story with the host and gags with the people forcing him to watch the shows. Super corny, fun stuff. And then it goes to the movie. I'm pretty sure that 100% of the movie is shown. They break it up with the host doing a couple skits per movie.

If you want recommendations for some especially good episodes to start with, I recommend Werewolf, The Final Sacrifice, Hobgoblins or Gamera. All of those are hilarious, Werewolf is probably my favorite

I'm liking the new season a lot. The only thing I hated and had to fast-forward through was Neil Patrick Harris and Kinga's fucking long ass song. Otherwise, the movie selection has been my favorite part, lots of weird ass cheese. Maybe it helps that I don't know Jonah or Felicia from anything before this, but the new cast fits right in, and the writing is classic MST3k with some appropriately modern references thrown in.

The last episode is great, easily in my top 10 episodes of MST3K. This far exceeded my expectations.

Now I'm bummed I have no more to watch. Hope Netflix renews another season.

>less rapid fire

Am I the only one thinking they get a little too rapid fire at points? I'm not saying there should be a lot of dead time, but sometimes jokes need a little pacing or buildup, and the movie should get a little time to breath and just be hilarious by virtue of how bad it is for a minute.

Still really enjoying it though, it still feels like vintage MST3K for the most part.

I gotta say that it's pretty amazing that there is an almost unanimous verdict that the revival is just as good as it has ever been. Goes to show how great a show can be when there isn't a whole lot of corporate/production company meddling, etc. From now on, all reboots/revivals should be done through crowdfunding lol.

nah I think that too. I was watching episode 3 last night and at one point it was just like shut the fuck up and let the movie breath for a minute, they don't need to be constantly talking ffs. I also genuinely love bad movies which doesn't help, something like The Time Travelers would be enough fun on its own. come to think of it, netflix should try and get the full movies they riff on. streaming rights for that shit can't be too expensive.

I have been liking it overall though, my only complaints are the random "Moon TV" commercials that just interrupt the flow and the fact that they don't do the entire movie despite being on netflix. but I think the entire first season was crowdfunded and then they shopped the episodes around, right? so maybe now that they know they'll be on netflix they can do longer episodes with the full movie.

>>381901
nah they still don't do the whole movie, but like I said I think they did it this way for season one in case a TV network bought it. but since Netflix did, maybe next season will be different.

Yeah, it only took an episode for me to buy-in on New Crow, I like him a lot now. I'm 10 episodes in, though, and New Servo still sounds weird to me. He has some funny riffs but his voice is all over the place. I really like Jonah's voice, too. Despite him being Hawaiian he's fit perfectly into the doughy, midwestern average Joe mold that Joel and Mike created before him.
