There's is an anime general but anime discussion isn't limited to there if you wanted to just talk about NGE and similar shows.

So like, in the early-ish days of 420chan moderator positions were handed out a lot more willy-nilly than they are now. Rather than being part of the exclusive IRC master race, shit could get given to you just if you were a known namefag on a board and argued you could improve it with moderation. This is exactly what happened with jigglyWiggly, the drawfag who did masterpieces like pic related.

Anyway, back then mods had a lot more autonomy on their respective boards. As time has gone on, mods have lost the power to add word filters and maybe even do stickies as well, although I'm not too sure about that. Basically /a/ was kinda left alone with only 1 real mod and he was pretty lose and wacky with the rules.

It was very inclusive and full of proper oldschool *chan /a/ type people. That is pedophiles and like, proper bottom feeder anime-is-my-life sort of guys. Cake Tan, Etna_Is_My_Wife, and AkiraIsLove are a few names that spring to mind. There honestly wasn't even that much anime discussion a lot of the time, just loads of crazy word filters and wacky /b/ type threads with anime screen shots.

ANYWAY, it was kinda mostly let alone by the actual 420chan death squad and mostly kept to itself. This lead to more and more "wacky" behaviour by the namefags on the board and eventually a few of them thought it'd be a good idea to try and raid /wooo/ during a PPV. This didn't really get much attention on 420chans /a/ but it got reposted on 7chan which is where the real bulk of the attack force came from. There was lots of Lucky Star posted, because for years afterwards posting "Lucky Star Appreciation threads" would still get you banned.

Now, obviously this was poking a bear in the eye with a stick and Spardot Spardotted and the board got nuked, that's even the technical term.

Now this was A LONG time ago and I know Kirt was an anime fan at one point, but the fact is the mods probably just look at /h/ and think back to /a/ and that gives them all the reason in the world to never bring /a/ back. Plus, I imagine C-Higgy quite likes his power consolidated on the 1 board for ALL discussion. Technically it all makes sense to go on here, but I'd quite like a /a/ in the old style that also has a bit of /b/ in it. /nc/ is the closest we have but it's pretty dead and is only image dumps, when there was a tiny bit of community there it was actually a really good board.

I'll throw this here. I saw "Your Name" cuz it fit into my day off drinking schedule and a google search said it was the highest grossing Japanese film behind "Spirited Away." That got my attention.
Buuutt I was bored with it super quick, and I'll attribute some of that to me being drunk, But it seemed like typical Japanese teen dating drama WITH A TWIST!?! The twist being mediocre. I'd like to see it sober, but my drunk reviews tend to line up with the sober ones, so I'm gonna say this film is hella overrated.

>But it seemed like typical Japanese teen dating drama
That is the exact vibe I got off of it too. I got really stoned and was ready to be BLOWN AWAY by it.

But after like 10 minutes I kinda clocked that it's probably only so high grossing because loads of teens went to it, and if it's the sort of things that japanese teens generally like then I imagine it to be pretty standard J-Drama.

Didn't even get to the twist. Will have to watch it again at one point but I really wasn't impressed.

Watched Evangelion 1.11 for the first time. I've watched the series all the way through 3 times and I don't know what I was expecting but in my opinion the movie does an excellent job of condensing the beginning of the series into something film length. Much better than the first part of End of Evangelion did.

Still got half an hour to go but it really doesn't feel like they changed much. It has been a long time since I watched the series but I honestly don't feel like it's rushed or has cut out anything important. Although the angels do attack at a pretty rapid rate.

The action is fucking amazing, I'm not crazy about mech stuff or action in general, but it's fucking brutal in this. You really feel for Shinji when he's getting attacked.

Other than that the story line is just NGE. Cheesy as fuck and Shinji's whining does get old pretty fast. But it wouldn't be NGE without that so I can't really complain.

2.22 and so on diverges quickly from the previous Evangelions to the point that I would consider it fanfiction if anyone else but Anno was doing it.

Ah well, I'll wait and see. Only 20 minutes into 2.22. still really impressed. I am totally the sort of guy who is ready to shit on things that try and condense content, but right now I would be totally comfortable telling people that they can ignore the series and jump straight into the movie.

I'll wait and see how these divergences treat that opinion.
