Martini artillery carbine in 303 Brit.
Anyone know the value on one of these gents?
Searched all over the web. I picked it up for $300.

>1000 meters with irons sights.

Yeah, the bullet will easily go that far. You won't hit anything smaller than a strip mall though.

Always loved how my SKS and mosin sights can be adjusted up to 1000 and 2000 meters, respectively. The mosin can definitely reach out and touch someone at that distance, but I've never seen more than an 800m shot with irons. With the SKS the trajectory at 1000m would basically look like a rainbow at that distance. I've never seen someone shoot one past 600m but I'm sure it could be done with the right hold over.

Those sights are for volley fire. Not practically used really ever but stuck there because they didn't know how modern war would be fought. Kind of like how we had 4 foot bayonets of cartridge chambered long arms. Sword fighting died out when muskets went away.

I'm not an expert on them but I had one. Rather it was a family gun; stolen from our farm, sadly. I imagine it's now sawed down to some shitty one shot pistol thing covered I electrical tape.

The value depends on where it's been and if it's in original nick. Seems obvious but they were brought here by I assume soldiers returning home, who sporterized them. Cutting the wood back off the barrel at the front. They're not especially valuable though it seems. Not here anyway
