so i'm looking to get a rifle as my first gun. Part of me wants to get a .22 cuz they're so cheap, but another part of me wants a .223 just to have more oomph and a funner time shooting. what do yall think?

get a marlin model 60 for 150 bux.

you end up not liking shooting or not going too often? You didn't invest much and ammo is cheap. Lets say you end up wanting an ar later then you could just get an AR556 from ruger or a M&P 10 for 500ish bucks new and now you have two guns for 650 dollars.

The marlin also wont have you spending money on magazines because its got a tube mag. If you dont like the idea of that gun you get get the mag fed version too or a ruger 10/22 which would be a little bit more

i dont really think you could go wrong with either but most people will say .22 is a better first option.

If you're gonna buy a marlin then I'd suggest going out and trying to find an older marlin. New marlins are complete ass.

I have a friend with one but he hasn't really shot it much and I don't think I've ever shot it. They suck?

I think that the 795 and model 60 would be okay. Looking online on buds I'm seeing that the 795 is actually cheaper but with a synthetic stock

How much are you considering spending? I hate to be that guy, but you could buy and AR and swap uppers. Have one dedicated .22 upper and one deticated .223 upper. I recall they also make conversion bolts for just .223 chambers, but i have heard of the .22 dirtying up the gas tubes.
