Hey guys how it going. I've been cracking out on Pokemon Moon the last few days and I gotta ask, what's the deal with the new persian's head? I generally have a persian in my party for payday's sake, but the new design is just so ugly.

Pic unrelated.

Archeops might be the worst

Overall it still bothers me how they muted all the colours after going 3D. Barely any pokemon have a vibrant colour scheme anymore unless you get the shiny version.

new persian is hilarious looking but I can see people not liking him when they're used to the old badass elegant kanto species. if it was a retcon I would be outright pissed but as a regional variant it's cute.

>>229019
>muted colors
nobody ever talks about this but I hated that so much. a lot of the shinies aren't vibrant anymore either. parasect got it the worst in the color department imo. though I'm pretty disappointed in that model they use for Musharna. other pokemon like koffing and torkoal get real smoke animations and for musharna they did this ridiculous static smoke tentacle.

other than that though I remember being really impressed by the new battle graphics when x and y came out. I just wish they had spiffed them up a bit in sun and moon. I bet the colors will still be muted and boring on the inevitable gen 8 switch games though.

I played gen one on a big old monochrome box gameboy so the muted colours never bothered me but I realise I'm the exception not the rule. Still it's nice that for once my old age means I can enjoy something more rather than less.

Man though the switch pokemon games there's some major fucking potential there. Who knows what they'll do as far as artstyle. But its going to be cool to see pokemon on a comparitively beefed up system from anything its been on before. Sure you've got pokemon collisieum and the xd but thats not the same as a mainline entry. That's what I'm hyped for. My body is ready for that so fucking much.

Anyone remember this cringe fest, especially that one track with Misty trying to get in Ash's pants?

It was kind of disappointing to get. I remember hoping it would at least have that song they had a Japanese and English version of on the outro of a couple shows once, then pulled them and replaced them with one of the regular outros for the reruns.

And how could you not like such classic like WE'RE ON THE ROAD TO VIRIDIAN CITY!

And of course there was always TO BE A MASTAH! POKEMON MASTAH!
But I could go on....also yes, if you listen to some of the Japanese tracks they were much better....

I had almost forgotten that one.

That one is embedded deep in my brain. Once in awhile, when I blazed enough, lines from that song will just start pouring out.
This could also be due to at least once I recall falling asleep with the CD on repeat, and the songs just playing out in my dreams.

Didn't like this when I gave it a go. Is there still a semi active community of people playing it now? I haven't seen nearly as much coverage about it in a considerable amount of time. The whole thing seemed like a bit of a fad that ran its course to me.

yeah semi-active is the word, it's not dead or anything, I still see people playing it on the streets, but it's nowhere near as big as it was during the initial wave of popularity. not even close. during that time there just wasn't enough to do and you could tell it was going to fall off the radar after the majority of the playerbase reached a leveling plateau and ran out of things to do. And then they did. This new update could have extended the fad period were it released then, but only for a few more months at best.

Yeah, they really did release a game that was half done at best. Before Gen 3 comes out they'll be working on rolling out trading and battling, so that's a plus. Honestly, I still find it fun and at the very least, a good reason to get out of the house. I'm lucky to live in a state that has a really good community for it, documenting and updating nests.

I have played on and off roughly since launch. At this point the only ones from gen 1 that I don't have that are not region locked/legendary are Hitmonchan and Kabutops (only just got a Kabuto recently after hatching a ton of eggs.) Gen 2 the only ones left that I have are Mareep's evolves, Sunflora, Unown, Wobbufett, Girafarig, Shuckle, Sneasal, Donphan, Hitmontop, Miltank, and Tyranitar (minus Delibird and Smeagle who are not in the game at all I believe at the moment.)

The evolve items are few and far between. I have lucked out and gotten 3 dragon scales, 3 metal coats, and 3 king's stones but have only gotten the 1 sunstone which I used to get a Bellossom.

I quite liked the design on vikavolt. It's got an insane special attack and I thought it might be good in a trick room. In single player it was a letdown because by the time I could evolve my charjabug all the good moves had been long passed and I had to go to the move reminder to have good coverage for the elite 4.

However if I want an electric sweeper who can decimate things with a shitload of support (which vikavolt is) Xurkitree is just better (it can also set it's own electric terrain). And if you're in a trick room facing the oh so meta torkoal then Xurkitree has much better odds. All vikavolt has going for it is access to bug buzz and ground immunity. Which I don't think beats better typing, more bulk and beast boost.

I know it was just the generation's common bug but it just needed a little more... something to be genuinely viable. Maybe a little more bulk. Slightly better movepool. Or a more offensive ability. If it kept battery that might even be enough. Maybe I'm wrong though and actually I've just not spotted that it's got a perfect partner sitting around somewhere. I just noticed it gets flash cannon... shame it doesn't get earth power and sludge wave instead though)

>>228900
I thought it might make a good trick room option. Run with torkoal and just beat down anything the heatwave can't. I really love taking reasonably bulky but brutally offensive monsters (my archetypal monster would be heatran or azumarill, utterly devastating attackers who are able to take a hit) and just smashing enemies down with them. On paper lurantis might do that but actually I agree, it's shit.

I had a good think about it. The speed isn't awful because it's slow enough to underspeed non trick room pokemon and if you're against another trick room you can always try to turn the room back off. It has good bulk and the BP of it's solar blade makes it quite a hard hitter. It's abilities are useless though. Essentially its niche would be a more offensive trick room sun abuser. Use growth and then just smash down stuff that torkoal can't break.

What breaks it is not that ferrothorn is bulkier and has better coverage, or that amoongus is mo…

>vikavolt
I swept my friend the other day by using agility on it but any lycanroc with accelrock or choice scarfed super effective anything would kill I think. it's pretty gimmicky. fun though. more usable than lurantis at least.

>xurkitree
I haven't used it much yet but that thing has the best in battle animations. the devs were clearly having a lot of fun animating that thing.

Hmm agility vikavolt would work.

I think that or put it in a sun trick room team. Actually it can use solar beam and would work well in a sun room team. Thunderbolt, Solar beam and bug buzz. Only thing it can't seriously fuck up is kommo-o who largely sucks.

I do wish it had gotten battery or just a little more bulk, it'd have made it a really viable monster.

Well I guess next time I down a run of breeding that's on the lost after all though. I've got enough 5iv stuff sitting around it won't take long and the island means everything gets passively trained.

Shit I just remembered who did disappoint.

Golisopod. The fact it kept emergency exit breaks it. It's bulky, but gets STAB leech life and has the right stats to abuse that. Emergency exit means it will switch in and get to just first impression more but if something just hit me I'd rather sit in and hit it back with a same power move THAT ALSO HEALS ME. And being so slow, it rarely hits first then gets beaten the fuck back out. Golisopod usually loses it's attack if it's hit hard. It's ability confines it to first impression spam.

Might be entrainable but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

Aquaranid has probably been my favorite for some reason. It's just nice to have a tanky water/bug who benefits from the leech life boost. Ribombee is like the exact opposite, but they function great together which is probably why I kept them on my team.

I love my legal legendaries. Last season you needed terrakion or landorius really because while other monsters could counter mega khan (who centralised the whole meta) none did so without being useless for anything else. These guys justified a spot on your team even without mega mom.

I've found legendaries are often clutch as fuck but most of the battlespot legal ones are not team centrepieces.

Meanwhile UBs are the opposite. Some are broken but celesteela aside (I'm still not 100% sure it's better than ferrothorn in every way but I need to field test it properly) most are extremely powerful but brittle and need support. Xurkitree for example has 173 base special attack and beast boost, but average defenses and moderate speed. It needs to be protected and/or given speed support to sweep. Pheramosa is frail as fuck and karana and nihilego are reasonably bulky on one side but frail as fuck on the other. Kartana at least has a good defensive typing nihilego does does not and if you even say "earthquake" its focus sash breaks and it faints.

The exception to what I said about legendaries is that the tapu's field setting moves are a big deal. Especially in doubles. That said I'm looking forward to using modest tapu lele in singles. It'll probably do a better job (not quite as fast but not timid anyway, more special attack though) than my modest specs hydreigon did last season though the question is whether to use specs or psychium Z as one gives me more reusability but the other lets me stay in and switch moves.

If you don't want to use legendaries in doubles I'm guessing torkoal +a chlorophyl user or torkoal + trick room oranguru + tsareena is probably not a bad way to go.

I thought it was really strange that they made most of the UBs weak to fire, so then I figured it was to make sure that they won't be abused in comp. I'm not ready to play on that level yet because I'm still building gimmick teams and getting used to the battle systems, then pick the best out of those to fill my final battle teams. If the meta is going to require UBs then I'll have to start thinking of training a few for practice. I'm liking Nihilego and Pheromosa but I have a sneaking suspicion that Celesteela is going to be seeing some screen time with that insane Defense stat.

Are megas still viable or is it all about the Z-moves now? I imagine they play a huge role now because of their power so as I spec moves I'm trying to keep in mind that I may have to use Z-moves eventually and also throw in a Protect move here and there to cut damage. Using and fighting against the Tapus also looks like it's going to need some planning for, especially Tapu Lele. Some of those terrain changing moves look like they're going to be a pain to deal with because you can't inflict statuses on the relevant Tapu while they're active. I've taken a real liking to the weather changing moves and have most of the Pokemon and moves centered around Harsh Sunlight and Hail in two of my teams.

Some of those abilities that capitalise on weather conditions and affect hit rates or charge times on big moves like Blizzard or Solar Beam are really cool. The Froslass I have planned is basically going to be a Blizzard cannon once she's set up in a match. I forgot that Drought was a weather inducing ability and that will make a really nice combo with my Sunshine team for doubles games, thanks for that advice.

I don't think you'll NEED any one monster but legendaries and UBs are both options which bring a lot to the table. The tapus will bring a lot to the team but also self support while the beasts will need a lot more hand holding but can yield more.

Celesteela has great defenses and great attacks, it has the movepool to abuse both. You can EV and nature it so it gains attack boosts on KO or boosts one of it's defenses. It learns leech seed and giga drain, can do earthquake and some fire coverage and it's main STAB heavy slam hits like a truck as it's 120bp on most of the game and it's typing is superb. It's going to be a top 10 monster this generation all generation long. It's not unbeatable though, it's not as bulky as the likes of ferrothorn so it can be one hit by a few things, it's not particularly fast or particularly slow so it can be worn down or crippled with burns and it's attack stats while solid are not outstanding.

I see nihilego as being viable for an offensive hazard setter, but otherwise solid but outclasses. Pheramosa is super fast but I think needs a sash or a a lot of support or else even neutral priority moves can KO it. I mean azumarill will have no trouble taking it down with aqua jet, talonflame is still around etc. Might pair well with tapu lele as per your image. That's also probably another meta as fuck core.

I always felt like fire is a mediocre attack type on paper but just hits so many otherwise really hard to harm things hard and ends up being mandatory on every team with any element of offense.

They added new weather setters this gen for every weather. Alola ninetales wants a word with frosslass. Coming back to the tapus I think field effects will matter now too. They each block some statuses and have other effects. Psychic terrain doesn't stop status but prevents priority. Misty terrain stops all statuses but doesn't boost attacks, it just cripples dragon moves. Which sucks when the setter is fairy tbh.

I'm thinking drizzle pelipper plus tapu koko + thunder with a life orb KO's a lot of shit. Pelipper can run ice beam and a 100% accurate hurricane and a boosted hydro pump as well so the…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN7MeGbPNzw
I love the harvest moon games and the pokemon games so a game that gave me all that shit to fiddle around with would be a massive time waster for me. Its a ridiculously ambitious concept obviously that never really panned for the obvious reasons. Its just too big. But I love the idea of doing ranching and wooing ladies in a pokemon game along with all the battles and catching and training.

What are some qualities that you'd like to see in your dream pokemon game?

i like the idea of putting a deep epic/philosophical story into a pokemon game. Like retelling Monkey: journey to the west or Princess Mononoke in a pokemon game. Similar to Ghost in the Shell it could be played as just a normal pulp game, but the avid player can search deeper and uncover a cool story. Pokemon has been around for so long now it almost has its own kind of mythology so it would be nice to employ this in games. I think fan-made games are already doing some of this but it could be expanded.

I also like 'big' games with large maps and lots to explore in terms of area and story.

Join me in hating on massive faggot pokemon youtubers.

Who is your most hated poketuber?

Unlistedleaf is the worst. Can't stand the shitty kiddy dubstep and huge overreaction at pulling pretty much anything shiny out of a pack. His use of randum xd phrases like "holy banana peels" real grinds my klinkklangs too. Tell me you don't want to punch that face.

Protomario and Tamashii come in as close runners up. Tamashii is an ugly monotone whiny bitch with mostly dull content, and Protomarios pokemon theories are Matthew Patrick (shit) tier, or just jacked from somebody else.

I only hate anyone who calls the viewers "guys". So basically all of them, except for Baz.

I don't watch any 'poketubers' but casually come across some when I'm looking for certain information. It's sad that just from this comment alone you can already place an image of what kind of person Verlisify is.

that's a strange thing for him to get worked up about. getting to level 100 in sun/moon is certainly tedious but we're mostly gonna be using these for legendaries and shinies we'll be transferring over when pokebank drops. in those games O-powers and access to more than one lucky egg makes getting to 100 trivial. just level up up there and fix em when you transfer them. not hard.

Yeah, EV training and breeding got easier. Bottlecaps are just a gift to shiny collectors and certain legendary/mythic pokemon. In that respect it got a lot easier because it's possible. Being able to chain up a bunch of 4 iv dittos makes starting out easier and anyone who's played previous gens will have slowly accumulated a bunch of 5 and 6 iv pokemon which makes new breeds and rebreeds pretty trivial.

I've never seen anyone say anything good about Verlisify but I've seen a lot of smack talked and "I'm a 15 year old /v/ poster" level hyperbole video titles cropped up in a recommended for me when I fell into poketube (which I'd mostly avoided until then) a couple of weeks ago. Honestly it's a pretty mediocre corner of youtube, I found a few interesting videos or at least bits in videos but that's about it, though I avoided a lot of the content because it really doesn't grab me so maybe the really bad stuff is there. None of these guys are pro so they don't really have too much to offer anyone nerdy enough to be posting here. Or in this thread.

I'm not seeing it. Why would a fairy evolve when holding a poison item? It makes more sense if it was holding a Big Mushroom or Miracle Seed. You think mushroom and automatically think black sludge? A type that fairy is weak to?

Not only that, but why would holding a poison item make it a grass type?

Give me all pheromosa fanart possible. I especially wanna see gijinkas because I'm a cosplayfag and am definitely cosplaying that shit and want design ideas.

Pic kinda related, it's one of my IRL pheromosas (next to a candy version).
