What's up /po/

>What game is everybody playing?
>What point in the storyline?
>Pokemon you are currently trying to level up/catch/breed?

Currently high as fuck and working my way through victory road in Y Version.
It's been kind of tough, but I just caught a Druddigon and evolved my Zweilous into Hydreigon, so things should start rolling now.
Also working on leveling up my Pupitar.

Bump on fellow trainers!

Doubles is fun actually it does take a little getting used to but it makes the number of broken monsters smaller because there's always 2 things on field to counter it.

My heatran was max special attack with max hp and it just shrugs off even neutral attacks and hits back hard. The typing and ability are good but it's stats are fantastic too. Mine's 100 with perfect IVs now. During the doubles ladder at one point it ate soemone else's heatwave... shit got real very quickly.

Also I got my shiny modest venusaur to 100 so now it's a shiny modest 6iv giga drain venusaur for mega forme funtimes. I am quite happy with this.

Currently switching between X and Sun, X because I restarted it, (already beat the e4 and started the looker quests) and Sun because I wanna get my secondary team up to 100 before I have to update and lose the poke pelago glitch. All I have left is Salazzle and Mudsdale, both level 89 atm.

Pokemon HG/SS, although I just restarted them. I like to shiny hunt, so I have 2 going at the same time. Still trying to get Shiny Totodile. I've gotten 3 damn Chikoritas and 1 Cyndaquil. All I want is the starter trio so I can completely play through and not have to worry about it.

Yeah I could AR in a JPN ditto to masuda method with in Gen 4, but honestly with only Flame Body helping you, it's not that much longer to just do Soft Resets in those games. Once I get the Totodile I'll play both up to the Lugia/Ho-oh part and then Soft Reset for those as well.

I think from how low key the announcement was, this is gonna be a sparsely expanded sequel/remake. maybe they'll expand the town that got taken over by team skull, do a few new alola forms, or add some shit to festival plaza to make it less boring, but I don't think we'll get anything substantial like a full island or something. I might skip this one.

>switch game
we'll get one, this is a stopgap so they can keep the series relevant and keep a stream of income until they can get a switch game finished. it's gonna be a lot more work than normal and judging by interviews on the subject, they know it. idk why people thought it would be done this soon. you look on other forums and people are outright pissed that the pokemon stars rumor turned out to be a dud. did they really think it would be done this fast? or that it was a just gonna be another pokemon yellow but for sun and moon? the real switch game will be gen 7 and have nothing to do with alola.

What ability does it have?

I have used whimsicott to great success but essentially it lived by grace of focus sash or resistances. In doubles with 4 of the following: taunt, fake out, protect, tail wind, beat up (terrakion as partner).

Though I know someone who ran a bulky leech seed.

Anyway the point is that the best build is the best build, that build will have one or two optimal natures and maybe 2 or 3 other okay ones.

At the end of the day what you can do with non optimal pokemon pretty binary, either you end up with a version of the same build that isn't quite as capable of doing the things it should, but it's good enough to handle the things you need it to, or it's not good enough. Your team is weaker either way but in the end we can't give you a good answer until we know what you want to do with it.

Which are completed games. I don't know where to start. And all the fan reviews are so drastically skewed its not even helpful. I've messed around with a couple, what are some romhacks worth really diving into?

I'm okay with difficulty. I'm just trying to figure out which ones are the most fun I can have with this. I don't care if they happen to be amateurish I'm just looking at this from a perspective of sheer dumb fun here.

The original hack was Pokemon brown. It was a hack of pokemon red/blue but included pokemon from other generations. I haven't played that one yet, i'm too used to fire-red graphics by now.
Instead I've been playing Rijon Adventures which is a remake of Brown but a hack of Fire-red. It's pretty entertaining so far, im about half way. Challenging and original. Includes gen1-3 pokemon so far. Apparently it includes Johto and another fan fiction region for the post-game.

I installed pokemon moon on my 3ds, and got a new3ds right after (that fucking pikachu one man). If its the same deal, you just need to do a transfer process between the two which you can look up. It transfers all your information/account shenanigans from the one to the other, and will take a long ass time. But yeah you should be fine.

installation takes a little while but just keep em both charged and it's easy. the main issue here is if you find the 3ds itself uncomfortable, and whether you get the regular or the xl. there's a lot of grips to choose from that make it much more ergonomic. the best one is the hori monster hunter cross hunting gear but it looks like that's never gonna go back down to 20 bucks, so you would be better off with the cybergadget or dreamgear grips.

There's a newer version with non-flared grips so it fits in your pocket better, but that's generally not why you buy a controller-shaped grip.

Overall it still bothers me how they muted all the colours after going 3D. Barely any pokemon have a vibrant colour scheme anymore unless you get the shiny version.

new persian is hilarious looking but I can see people not liking him when they're used to the old badass elegant kanto species. if it was a retcon I would be outright pissed but as a regional variant it's cute.

>>229019
>muted colors
nobody ever talks about this but I hated that so much. a lot of the shinies aren't vibrant anymore either. parasect got it the worst in the color department imo. though I'm pretty disappointed in that model they use for Musharna. other pokemon like koffing and torkoal get real smoke animations and for musharna they did this ridiculous static smoke tentacle.

other than that though I remember being really impressed by the new battle graphics when x and y came out. I just wish they had spiffed them up a bit in sun and moon. I bet the colors will still be muted and boring on the inevitable gen 8 switch games though.

Anyone remember this cringe fest, especially that one track with Misty trying to get in Ash's pants?

It was kind of disappointing to get. I remember hoping it would at least have that song they had a Japanese and English version of on the outro of a couple shows once, then pulled them and replaced them with one of the regular outros for the reruns.

I had almost forgotten that one.

>WE'RE ON THE ROAD TO VIRIDIAN CITY!

That one is embedded deep in my brain. Once in awhile, when I blazed enough, lines from that song will just start pouring out.
This could also be due to at least once I recall falling asleep with the CD on repeat, and the songs just playing out in my dreams.

I quite liked the design on vikavolt. It's got an insane special attack and I thought it might be good in a trick room. In single player it was a letdown because by the time I could evolve my charjabug all the good moves had been long passed and I had to go to the move reminder to have good coverage for the elite 4.

However if I want an electric sweeper who can decimate things with a shitload of support (which vikavolt is) Xurkitree is just better (it can also set it's own electric terrain). And if you're in a trick room facing the oh so meta torkoal then Xurkitree has much better odds. All vikavolt has going for it is access to bug buzz and ground immunity. Which I don't think beats better typing, more bulk and beast boost.

I know it was just the generation's common bug but it just needed a little more... something to be genuinely viable. Maybe a little more bulk. Slightly better movepool. Or a more offensive ability. If it kept battery that might even be enough. Maybe I'm wrong though and actually I've just not spotted that it's got a perfect partner sitting around somewhere. I just noticed it gets flash cannon... shame it doesn't get earth power and sludge wave instead though)

I thought it might make a good trick room option. Run with torkoal and just beat down anything the heatwave can't. I really love taking reasonably bulky but brutally offensive monsters (my archetypal monster would be heatran or azumarill, utterly devastating attackers who are able to take a hit) and just smashing enemies down with them. On paper lurantis might do that but actually I agree, it's shit.

I had a good think about it. The speed isn't awful because it's slow enough to underspeed non trick room pokemon and if you're against another trick room you can always try to turn the room back off. It has good bulk and the BP of it's solar blade makes it quite a hard hitter. It's abilities are useless though. Essentially its niche would be a more offensive trick room sun abuser. Use growth and then just smash down stuff that torkoal can't break.

What breaks it is not that ferrothorn is bulkier and has better coverage, or that amoongus is mo…

yeah it's just tragic. there's just nothing lurantis can do to justify itself. I love the little bastard too. and I cant use it in a shit pokemon battle cause I'm usually running pokemon like Dunsparce (best mon ever) in those, so it would end up overpowered. blaaaaaah.

>vikavolt
I swept my friend the other day by using agility on it but any lycanroc with accelrock or choice scarfed super effective anything would kill I think. it's pretty gimmicky. fun though. more usable than lurantis at least.

I haven't used it much yet but that thing has the best in battle animations. the devs were clearly having a lot of fun animating that thing.

Hmm agility vikavolt would work.

I think that or put it in a sun trick room team. Actually it can use solar beam and would work well in a sun room team. Thunderbolt, Solar beam and bug buzz. Only thing it can't seriously fuck up is kommo-o who largely sucks.

I do wish it had gotten battery or just a little more bulk, it'd have made it a really viable monster.

Well I guess next time I down a run of breeding that's on the lost after all though. I've got enough 5iv stuff sitting around it won't take long and the island means everything gets passively trained.

Shit I just remembered who did disappoint.

Golisopod. The fact it kept emergency exit breaks it. It's bulky, but gets STAB leech life and has the right stats to abuse that. Emergency exit means it will switch in and get to just first impression more but if something just hit me I'd rather sit in and hit it back with a same power move THAT ALSO HEALS ME. And being so slow, it rarely hits first then gets beaten the fuck back out. Golisopod usually loses it's attack if it's hit hard. It's ability confines it to first impression spam.

Might be entrainable but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

Aquaranid has probably been my favorite for some reason. It's just nice to have a tanky water/bug who benefits from the leech life boost. Ribombee is like the exact opposite, but they function great together which is probably why I kept them on my team.
