Pokemon Origins: The Story of Red by Bird Keeper Jamal - Tue, 03 May 2016 20:59:20 EST ID:typ+O7/a No.227777 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Alright, straight up I don't mean to keep making threads on a slow board, but this has to be. I know I'm not the only gen-wunner out there, and even if I am, I can't be the only one who has a deep appreciation for gen-one pokemon.

If you've ever played Red, Blue, Green, or Fire Red and Leaf Green, then you need to check out Pokemon Origins. The series consists of four 20-minute episodes, covering the most important details of not Ash, but Red's journey through Kanto and into the Pokemon League.

For me, it was like watching my childhood made into an anime. I've never ruined so many pairs of underwear in one day. I hope you can reach a similar level of achievement with this series.

And because you pokemasters are far too busy to seek out free downloads for this series, here is the link to episodes I, III, and IV (II is included, but bugged, so don't bother with it): https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/9280375/Pokemon_Origins

Episode II is here: https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/10519535/Pokemon_Origins_Episode_02_English_Dubbed_720p_WEBRip_x264_AAC-C

I've scanned both of them with MalwareBytes to be safe. Enjoy.

I got started with Pokemon watching the original show when it came out (or shortly after, I don't know, I know I was already into it by the time season 2 came out), but I kind of grew out of the show. Never grew out of the games.

Thanks still OP, maybe I'll check it out sometime

This miniseries came out three years ago, so I think most of us have seen it. I was disappointed when I found out that it wouldn't be a full length show. The animation was amazing, and the fight scenes were better than anything you would see in the regular Pokemon show. There was one point when Squirtle had Charmander screaming in agony during a fight they had.

Thanks for the resource. Nicoblog does have a 44mb Heart Gold rom, so I'll download it and test it out. Given the scarcity of a rom that doesn't have Nintendo's badge-based anti-piracy shit, I'll report back here with my findings.
Meh, that's a pretty average pic. Here's another winner.
Bird Keeper Jamal - Sun, 01 May 2016 12:53:11 EST ID:typ+O7/a No.227769 Ignore Report Quick Reply
So far the rom works perfectly, but I'll have to wait until I get more badges to be sure that it's clean. The anti-piracy shit gets worse as you get more badges, and starts out almost unnoticeable. I couldn't save on a DRM rom, but this one seems to work so far.

More updates later.

Made it to Mr. Pokemon and saved. The rom won't load the game now (pretends there are no saved games), which is indicative of pokepiracy DRM. Fixed roms are out there, but Nintendo shuts them down a lot.

Bumping for days. The patch doesn't fully work. You can kind of make it through the game if you don't save states, don't edit saves, and save in-game all the time.

Same. To be honest, right now I feel like I'm going to enjoy actually catching the Pokemon, and basically no other aspect of the game. It's going to just be a "Pokemon collection" game with some other shitty features which I probably won't utilize. There's nothing wrong with changing it up, especially on an entirely new platform, but they seem to have abandoned everything about Pokemon that makes it good, except for the exploring-and-catching aspect. But battles and even evolving Pokemon sounds much less fun in Pokemon Go. But whatever, it's free.

But at least that kind of makes me look forward to Sun & Moon, which I didn't care about when I was actually hyped for Pokemon Go.

Actually, it seems like that just changed, too.

"Previously, all Pokemon of the same species had the same tap attack and only the charge attack varied. This is no longer true.
For example, we have now seen an Ekans with the following attacks:

Poison Jab

Charge Attacks:
Mud Bomb
Poison Fang

Or prankster or defeatist.

Then I went and made dinner and got thinking. What follows is entirely tangential blue sky thinking from someone who is both sleep deprived and hyper caffienated so I'll spoiler it because, you've been warned.

What would make mega unown get used? What if it lost 62 atk (making it 10) and gained say 90 special attack (this would bring it to 162) and 75 speed (113)? Give it protean and suddenly you have an admittedly one trick but seriously frightening trap card.

However if you want it to be more than a gimmick it needs more moves. Obviously no attacks that your opponent can actually predict the effect of though. So now it can learn mirror move, secret power and nature power or whatever the berry one is. Maybe throw in imprison and metronome so people have choices with their build. If they could make synchronoise not trigger protean then that would also be a good shout. Unown takes on the type of it's hidden power or whatever move it mirrored and then attacks all monsters with that typing. Would get rekt by priority users but hey it needs a weakness. Would be fucking hilarious in doubles with a follow me user supporting it.

I think it's finally happened to me and I'm bored of Pokemon. Been playing since I was 14 and started with Emerald. Pokemon has been with me for the past 10 years and got me through some of the best and worst times of my life, but recently I have not been engaged with the newer games. This isn't nostalgia, I loved Black and White (2). I enjoyed X and Y and ORAS were a good homage, but I just don't get the same joy and anticipation for new Pokemon games. It took me months to get X. ORAS felt lacklustre to me, and the steps you have to go through to get pokemon from Emerald were just too tedious. This is the first time I'll not be getting the new Pokemon game and I'll be retiring to Emerald and Heart Gold. I'm sure the new games will be awesome though. Anyone else lost interest?

Similar. Haven't played since HG. That is probably the only Pokemon game I've really been psyched for, mostly due to the nostalgia of dumping hundreds of hours into Gold, and then wanting to do a playthrough around that time to only find my cartridge battery dead.
In fact I don't think I made it very far into HG until the nostalgia wore off and I was playing the same game I had already ground on.

Cool gym ideal, but I feel sorry for your floor. Need to get some pads in there. Good opportunity to do an airbrush on them.

I can't say I've ever really "retired" from pokemon. I got Red when it came out, I got gold and silver when they came out, I played crystal (or whatever the extra one after gs was) and then played a little bit of Emerald, but I don't have a DS and haven't had much time for most games since like, 2011. I replay red and blue every now and then, but it's not like OMG GEN 1 IS THE BEEEEST kind of deal.

I enjoy the artwork the most, I think, which keeps me attached to the series.

Now that Pokemon Go is a thing, I've totally gotten back into the franchise (I'm fuckin' checking around errday for info on the release) and can't wait to take roadtrips and make myself a badass pokemon team. The games, while all different, and all incorporating new features, have always seemed essentially the same, gameplay-wise, and I just didn't have the extra money, time, or desire at the time, but this "real-life Pokemon" shit is something I can really get behind.

It's weird for me. Started as a kid with gen 1, but 2 and 3 were my favorites. FireRed I played soooooo fucking much, I was in middle school / early HS at the time that came out and didn't give a fuck, I'd play it in public.

I don't even remember if it was diamond or pearl that I got but I fucked hated it, did not finish it, was disheartened. Got into SoulSilver though and sometimes do Nuzlockes. It gets old quick though, I love it but I've easily played through some form of gen II at least 30 times.

Black was so much fun honestly but I was discouraged. Too much new shit and having to learn a whole new game. It's like being 9 and opening my yellow for the first time >.> I don't know what type anything is or anything. I got so frustrated catching pokemon only to look them up and realize you have to trade to evolve them, not an option for me, so fuck. For these reasons I gave up about halfway through.

XY the hype was huge, the reviews were great, and with the return of the gen 1 starters I literally thought Z was going to be the end of Pokemon. But because half the game is going to be gen 4, 5, and new gen 6 pokemon I don't even know I never got it, plus no 3ds.

So it's like Omega Ruby is basically the end of the line for me. Gen 3 was teh last one I liked and now it's remade and until it's remade again I guess that's it.
Waiter Ebenezer - Mon, 11 Apr 2016 19:58:12 EST ID:ji5NiLc3 No.227732 Ignore Report Quick Reply
Started off with Blue myself, and got on to Gold.
Never had friends to trade with or anything back then (few had gameboys, nobody had link cables).
Since then i'd try out the GBA versions on emulators... but ditched them quickly because they were really all the same. After that I only used Gen 1 and 2 to study glitches.

A few months ago I got a "new" 3DS along with Pokemon X for shits & giggles, really just to see how far the series had gone in the 10 years I hadn't touched the franchise.

Was hard at first, coming back to like 500 more critters to catch and memorize, but the new mechanics (online trade, mega evolution) were really refreshing.
Also it's a great time killer for the long trips back to my home town

Hey /po/.

My best bud, a couple other people, and myself are having a pokemon match with some relatively restrictive rules. I'm not great at putting together teams in the best of time (I don't know any of the metagame or anything) and I just feel pretty frustrated trying to put together a team especially when I don't know how to put together a functional team.

So! I was hoping y'all could give me advice on how to build a team/give me examples of some pokemon I want to look at.

Here are the rules: Base stats is max 500. The team must be all mono-type, and must include a normal, grass, fire, and water pokemon. As well, each pokemon has to be from a different generation. Last but not least the max power of any move is 70.

So yeah, any help provided would be greatly appreciated!

Your team is still pretty evil given the format (which is basically a bit lame because as you said it'll just be full cancerwall). I have to be honest I was confused because he said "monotype" then said "I have to have this range of types" so I just assumed that was something he'd forgotten to delete.

I can still think of a couple of offensive options.

Belly drum linoone might work without a priority move just because it's pretty fast though. Or hariyama with bullet punch though it's slow as fuck the rest of the time. A speed investment might let it outrun walls or just go with max power bullet punch and adamant nature because it's high base attack and belly drum with adamant should make up for the lame 40bp and no STAB. Also it has guts which might be pretty useful for turning will o wisp into a bonus.

Honestly though, given how lame the format is, OP's friend probably isn't that hot on the workings of pokemon or he'd have forseen the consequences (well there's a tiny chance he just has a boner for 200 turn stall battles) of these limits and how unbalancing they are. So I suspect your team will dump on him.

There are probably a few better in slot pokemon. It just becomes a hassle regarding his need for a singular normal, fire, grass, water, and every single one originating from a different gen. Putting something better in one slot may very well make another completely unusable.

While I definitely appreciate the advice, I wouldn't be able to use either of those pokemon. Everything on the team has to be monotype, but otherwise those do sound like good options!

Monotype means the same type, friend. You mean singular type. A monotype team would consist of all 6 pokemon having one type in common like grass but allowing them to have a secondary type of any kind. IE Grass/poison or grass/water.

Oh for reals? My bad! Thank you for the heads up. Also I have no idea how but when I replied to that I totally didn't see both y'alls responses to each over, I must have not refreshed when my tabs came back after crashing and just hit quick reply.
Yeah my friend and I really don't know dick all when it comes to like meta game and the ilk, I think he was just trying to make a restrictive format heh. He was trying to make it interesting, I just find it frustrating as heck.

I will report back on whatever shitshow ends up happening when we finally get folks together to play (it's a mini tourney of my pal, our friend and her partner, and myself. The partner knows pokemon 100000x better then us so hey it'll be wild).

Why is Satoshi/Ash so inept compared to Red?

It is a gross misconception that they are intended to be the same character in different incarnations. In fact, Red and Ash are brothers. Red is older by a couple of years - so he started his Pokemon journey around the time of the game’s release, and Ash is the younger brother who started his journey around the time of the Anime’s release.
Where Red took down all of Team Rocket, the most influential crime syndicate in his country, Ash has a constant rivalry with two completely inept members of the organization that don't apparently take any part in the real endeavors of Team Rocket.

Red is a Pokemon Master. He defeated the Elite Four, even uncovering a lot of their double standards as Team Rocket members.
Ash has not defeated one league yet.

The reason for Ash’s incompetence is that he has some learning difficulties/mental retardation. However, he looks up to Red completely and is living his life trying to be just like his big brother and idol.

This is why Gary/Green has no interest in Ash whatsoever. He had his fight with Red, and now occasionally meets Ash along his journey, essentially to check up on him.
This is why Brock and Misty, two Gym Leaders, who have an important job to do in their own towns abandoned their posts to travel with Ash. Red had told them about his brother, and they recognized him, and traveled with him to look out for him and keep him relatively out of trouble when Red couldn’t.

manmade pokemon exist, in multiple forms... so it's possible clefairy was created as the cover story. but then... there are canon ancient civs that have had some rather advanced poke-tech... what if man fought man, created pokemon for use in war? the legendaries were bred in test tubes and released as ultimate weapons, with more and more species coming into existence over the centuries. eventually, humanity became almost symbiotic with pokemon, religion formed and blossomed.

god creates man
man fights man for god
man creates pokemon
pokemon fights pokemon for man
pokemon becomes god
universe is redacted by new pokeworld order illuminatimasontrainers
