I still (and will) never evolve into 2nd gen pokes because I am O.G. and cherish my fond memories with the original 150.
Are there /po/ Masters that only dabble with the original red, blue, and yellow?

I still have my original Blue cartridge, glitched of course, and I also have Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon: TCG, and Pokemon Yellow. Haven't really played anything past them, and I like the simple oldschool nature of the originals, though I probably have some fun in store if I try the newer ones. Also the TCG on Gameboy is very good, the second one only released in JP has been fan translated.

Of course you can, what, you think they just cast off all the old Pokeys every generation?

Fuck, XY was like I KNOW YOU LOVE NOSTALGIA. You can catching a fucking mewtwo (Y is definitely the better mega mewtwo thanks to insane special, speed and the insomnia ability though char Y is better for doubles and X for singles). You get one of the original starters given to you after the first gym too.

Honestly, yea thats what I thought. With over 600 pokemon, I thought they would get rid of the old one's to make room for the new ones. Ignorance on my part

What are your favorite ways to make the game a little harder/more fun?
I like the idea of Nuzlocke but I think it sounds like it would get boring - faint, release, catch new poke, grind for a million years, ad infiitum, until you finally beat it. You'd just be constantly raising new pokemon.

Anyone else have know of any similar set ups? I've thought about doing a team of all one type like a gym leader, but I don't know how I'd pick which one to use and it seems like it would be hard as fuck. But maybe worth it. Idk. Thoughts?

Oh and that reminds me that I own a Red version cartridge, so I once ran a game with just Charmander. Did not evolve him, had a team of HM slaves, and it was brutal. My HM slaves were all cute mons because I'm already running with Charmander. For some awesome reason, crit ratios in gen 1 are all fucked up, so after a certain lvl, every single Slash was a critical. Every. Last. One. It made the game pretty easy after a while because his lvl was way high compared to the npcs and his atk was already uber as well.

Looking back on it, it was pretty absurd.

yeah crits in gen 1 are crazy, they're based on speed.
the formula is: base speed * 100 / 512
With high crit chance moves like slash it is divided by 64 rather than 512.

Which means that anything with a base speed of 64 or higher has 100% crit chance with moves like Slash.
Would have loved to know this shit back in the day.

The only alternative play-style I've done was nuzlocke. I haven't done a nuzlocke playthrough in a few years because it was a bit stressful at times, I'm not gonna lie.
