Can't believe no one's posted about this yet! Anyone else still playing this game?

Pic related. Hatched the other night.

Didn't like this when I gave it a go. Is there still a semi active community of people playing it now? I haven't seen nearly as much coverage about it in a considerable amount of time. The whole thing seemed like a bit of a fad that ran its course to me.

yeah semi-active is the word, it's not dead or anything, I still see people playing it on the streets, but it's nowhere near as big as it was during the initial wave of popularity. not even close. during that time there just wasn't enough to do and you could tell it was going to fall off the radar after the majority of the playerbase reached a leveling plateau and ran out of things to do. And then they did. This new update could have extended the fad period were it released then, but only for a few more months at best.

Yeah, they really did release a game that was half done at best. Before Gen 3 comes out they'll be working on rolling out trading and battling, so that's a plus. Honestly, I still find it fun and at the very least, a good reason to get out of the house. I'm lucky to live in a state that has a really good community for it, documenting and updating nests.

I have played on and off roughly since launch. At this point the only ones from gen 1 that I don't have that are not region locked/legendary are Hitmonchan and Kabutops (only just got a Kabuto recently after hatching a ton of eggs.) Gen 2 the only ones left that I have are Mareep's evolves, Sunflora, Unown, Wobbufett, Girafarig, Shuckle, Sneasal, Donphan, Hitmontop, Miltank, and Tyranitar (minus Delibird and Smeagle who are not in the game at all I believe at the moment.)

The evolve items are few and far between. I have lucked out and gotten 3 dragon scales, 3 metal coats, and 3 king's stones but have only gotten the 1 sunstone which I used to get a Bellossom.

Anyone else still playing? Going pretty well so far, the gym rework is a saviour for me since all of my local gyms were walls of Blissey/Dragonite/Snorlax before

That's grand. I remember back in the 90s when my dad chastised me for liking pokemon. Now he's catching them all between reading shit fb memes.

I'd play pokemon go if it wasn't utter shit and complete trash. I mean, pokemon is already a very easy linear game for very young children. The notion that it needs to be substantially watered down from that in order to be accessible to the mindless masses is... well, probably true, but it's a shame nonetheless.

The premise of catching pokemon in the real world is a great gimmick, but the complete lack of any worthwhile content is what kills the game and is why it flopped so hard.

If I had my druthers about me, pokemon go would have worked like this:

>you catch pokemon in the real world
>they have IVs, EVs, type resistances, and the same movepools from the games (rare af shinies too)
>you build your team just like in the gameboy games and keep other pokemon in PC boxes
>you can battle other trainers just like in the gameboy games
>you use your pokemon to weaken wild pokemon before you can catch them

If I could have a team like in the games, and use it in a way that has some small degree of mental engagement, then I'd still play. I'd keep my phone on me throughout the day, frying my testacles, in the hopes that I might find another trainer to battle with. I'd keep it pretty casual by mixing solid strategic methods with less effective gimmicks (birds only for example). The game is trash though, so fuck pokemon go.

I have to be honest. If they took IVs out of pokemon it wouldn't change much but EVs are part of the depth of the game and if you can't understand or access them now it's because you're dumb. I mean IVs take less time and are easier to do than ever before but it's still a time sink but if they ever removed EVs they'd take a massive chunk of the competitive game out for something you can now just set to auto train and come back and it's done.

Thanks for clearing this up.

IVs=grinding
EVs=choices for pokemon builds

I think there's a few builds where you WANT bad IVs in one stat, like with special attackers so they don't get fucked by swagger as bad. but overall I'd be cool with it if IVs were either axed or simplified. they made sense before, different wild pokemon having different capabilities made sense to me. but once hackers started making 6iv teams that dominated tournaments, and then nintendo added in proper IV breeding in gen 6, it seemed like it wasn't serving a purpose beyond grinding. I like the concept of egg moves and passing down the pokeball they were caught in though.
