Maybe if they did a remix: new gyms, routes, starting town, new pokemon, actual story etc.

And starting with a pikachu that can't evolve would just suck tbh. Being able to choose any of the electric rodent pokemon might be cool though.

That'd be awesome actually. they should totally make a game like that, almost like the pokemon ranger or mystery dungeon games except more like an old school RPG. You could control your partner pokemon as well as your human trainer, who would be able to use items like pokeballs or potions to provide assistance, maybe even level up and discover unique classes/skills. I wouldn't mind having a pikachu the whole game if you could customize it into a more unique companion

I could totally go for that... making the pokemon more useful than just using them for fighting, CUTting trees, STRENGTHing rocks SURFing water and so on. Some finer bonding/friendship mechanics could make it a really good tool for learning new abilities, random loot and more...

what would really rock, though, would be another proper console addition. We have really good cel-shaded 3d graphics, we have the powerful hardware and we have the ability to cram at least four or five regions and a few thousand 'mons onto a disc with neato open-world mechanics.

think of it... a new Yellow Version, not for the handheld, but one that looks like the cartoon on a proper big screen..

10 year old me yould have peed his pants if he saw that... at 30 that still hasn't changed

I want a pokemon that adds, variable starting difficulties, that way it isn't so easy if I'm still playing pokemon when I'm an adult (I am). I'd also enjoy an emphasis on player choice in story. Specifically, I want the option to focus on a specific type or characteristic and receive recognition in the game for it. I want to be able to ultimately start a pokemon gym based around a specific type and battle new trainers as the end-game, but I also want to be acknowledged for not choosing a single type if I don't do that.

But really, I just want to glorify my team of bird pokemon.

Did you ever play pokemon Colloseum or XD? Something like that visually with more content and options would be ideal, I think. Also, remember when you could have your pokemon following you around in HG/SS? yeah, they should bring that back

long ago I thought it would be great if you had a little more freedom with how you pursue the gym challenge- i felt like all gym leaders should have three "ranks", the first being "amateur" (3 pokemon max, lvl 1-20) the second being "novice" (4 pkmn max, level 20-40) and "professional" (6max, lvl 40+). The premise being that all gym leaders would have teams for each tier to accept challengers of different experience levels. Defeat two gyms at amateur level and you advance to novice, defeat 5 gyms at novice and you go pro, and if you defeat all 8 gyms on PRO rank, you become ranked "expert" and can challenge the Elite 4. But basically once you rank expert you get more character and post-game options, among them being maintaining your own gym (probably something of a 'bonus' gym, like the karate dojo or trick house) and would be able to set teams for each ranking as well as customize those of your gym trainers, the puzzle layout, etc, similar to a hidden base. Maybe even set up environmental effects for battles. That would be easier to do on a hack of previous gen now tho, since it's gone full 3D.
I was checking out a thing for a pokemon tabletop I saw on here a while ago, it seemed a little impractical in places but it was a good rough setup, one of the things it went into was more distinct player classes you could get into based on your playstyle, which provided various benefits to the player. Type specialist was one of the player classes available, and it looked interesting in that they all got bonuses based on what type they specialized in. I could see the various achievements for character class being used to unlock stuff like outfits and accessories and possibly access more class-specific items and equipment.
