Tomorrow is the turkish referendum which will decide the future of the so called turkish "democracy". If the people in Turkey votes yes then we will see Erdogan recieve a lot more power than he already has, effectively ending the secular democracy.
Some polls says as much as 51% no. But knowing Erdogan I wouldn't be surprised if there's voter fraud. If he wins we'll have to prepare for some shitty years of neo-ottomanism and pseudo-islamist rule under the fascist party of the AKP.
Erdogan has already consolidated his political position by jailing thousands of members of the political opposition during the failed coup d'état. The president and vice president of the kurdish HDP opposition party has been jailed along with masses of it's members. The leader of another turkish party said he'd resign if the referendum pulls through.
This very relevant as Turkey is a regional power in the M.E and paradoxically a NATO ally.

I wish the coup against him had succeeded. It would be a shame to see Turkey drift even farther into a dictatorship and police state. If he's anything like the authorities in the USA, you can bet there will be voter fraud, intimidation and manipulation. Let's hope I'm wrong.

You are greatly underestimating the corruption within the turkish government. We are talking about a country that coexisted with ISIS, with whom they had a mutually beneficial partnership. Then you also have to highlight the incredible racist policies pushed by the turkish government, massacres, and just plain old oppression.
Turkey today doesn't even recognize the Armenian genocide because of a fucked up rightwing ultra-nationalist ideal.
Man, I just made this thread to hate on Turkey.

The coup almost succeeded in that a fighter jet sent to intercept the plane with Erdogan in it had to refuel so missed the chance to kill him. (Maybe i read about that here? Worth repeating I suppose.)

This is some sort of shock? He's asking to become a dictator. Of course he's going to cheat. The Sultan won't be denied.

I wonder if this will be enough for Atatürk to rise from the grave and kill Erdogan himself.

Opposition are demanding another referendum. I have hunch they'll be denied.
It was interesting to see the turkish democracy in action. Like how one polling station had more votes casts than registered voters. International observers who were therere came under the watchful eyes of Sultan Mehmet 2.0 and got pushed out.

Can't wait for the HPG summer campaign

The coup was engineered by Erdogan himself to create support for strengthening his office.
