For some reason, when I do acid, I'll start thinking really normie stuff.
Like I'll start thinking "I could really use a damn shave and get a haircut soon" (not a terrible idea but)
"This Taylor Swift music video is pretty good"
"This (flashy generic) anime is fun to watch"
"Oh god I can't stop watching this transformers trailer" etc

Anyone else feel this way sometimes, like the super basic things just drag them in really easily?

Never and I think I'd quit acid if I started enjoying that sort of trash. Super basic things can have some appeal, but not super shit things. Do you enjoy this effect?

bless this post

like I'm seriously imagining some dude growing up with super liberal hippy parents who forced him to have dreads as a kid, made him listen to nothing but acid house and psytrance, and banned TVs and electronics in the house.
He takes acid and suddenly he becomes some sunglasses and tight t-shirt wearing doucheknuckle.

ps if this post defies all logic and is serious, there's nothing wrong with liking something mainstream. There's a reason it's so popular and it's because it has mass appeal. Sheltering yourself off and rejecting everything mainstream is just as bad as people that turn their noses up at your personal niche like without even giving it a chance.

point taken but if your drug experience encourages you get into media made to market toys to kids, that seems like a step in the wrong direction and a misuse of acid, submitting to the idea of "infantalizing the consumer as a means of non-aggressive control".

I think I gave the wrong idea to both sides here, wew.

I'm a pretty regular guy, I don't even listen to psytrance or acid house.
But I'm also not sitting around actively eating up shit like michael bay's transformers. I'd never spend my night watching one of those movies on acid.

What I mean is that I will take interest in watching and then thinking about stuff that I'd normally skip over.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CmadmM5cOk

It was pretty hard to look away from this video while I was tripping. I thought it was pretty cool how Americana they made a lot of the scenes because of the song's emphasis on classic American styles.

Maybe it's just the flashes and colors that get to me? Is that so terrible when others will sit in a room and just stare at visualizers and fractals for half their trip? Hmmm

Some people get comfort in watching mainstream stuff. I think if you really want to be free you are allowed to enjoy both mainstream and underground and not think so much into it. Some of the mainstream stuff can be actually quite clever or well done, but just feels too normal and boring. There are many reasons why to like some production, it's not always the same, changes from people to people and if you notice something new.

Personally I found weed increased my appreciation for reggae and 80's synth music, acid for psychedelic/goa/psybient music and mdma for the mainstream music of any genre. When not on anything I can enjoy any of it, just depending on the mood and day what to pick.

It's a term used, often condescendingly, though also often in an ironic/lighthearted tone, to describe a "normal" person.
The idea of normal is not as relevant to the term as you may think as it's really a word that mostly just describes anyone who isn't part of the group you're currently talking to. When I said "normie" in my OP I meant people who are not into much subculture stuff. Or you could just take it to be that it's a representation of someone who is average in all ways and enjoys essentially just popular, accessible, middle of the road things in all walks of life.

>>876751
What does being an information glutton have to do with you sperging over my use of a word? Just how mad do you have to be to post in a thread without even contributing to it just so that you can talk about how stupid you think a contemporary colloquial term is?

You don't get it, do you? "Normie" isn't just a word. It implies a connection to a subculture of socially stunted mentally ill wankers from /r9k/ whose primary activity is to wallow in self-pity and jealousy towards "normies".

Maybe it's because you actually enjoy that kind of stuff and taking acid is ridding you of the ridiculous sober constraints you place on your behavior because of retarded concepts like things being too "mainstream" or "normie" for you to be allowed to even entertain the idea that these forms of expression (just like any other) can be consumed and enjoyed, lest you be associated with a group of people you've established a social barrier between because you're overly concerned with others' opinions about you. In other words, the acid is inhibiting an immature and totally asinine behavior you've learned and you're realizing you can just enjoy things for what they are. Even if it's because a song is really catchy and doesn't really have any other worth to it.

Ever heard of the book Steppenwolf? Read it. It applies to your situation quite a bit.

I like your post for actually answering my question, but like it a little less because it seems like you only wrote it to insult me for 150 words. Good old tripfag attitude
Thanks for the assumptions that the reason I don't spend my time watching pop star music videos and shallow anime is because I'm just too scared of what people think of me, but I'm actually into all sorts of "normie" shit. I have no problem telling people that I think Zedd has one of the best EDM songs of the year or that Chipotle is actually good, because I do believe that, but more of this stuff becomes sufficiently entertaining on acid. All I came here to ask was if other people here found themselves being entertained by accessible popular things more while on acid

>>876759
>it implies a connection to x
Yet here I am, doing nothing r9k-like. I'm sorry that the word triggered your anger, but I'm gonna use it regardless. It's not an r9k-only term anymore. Also, I'd rather judge people off the quality of their posts than by their diction.

I was being an edgy cunt. Mostly for reasons like seeing shit like this:
>Never and I think I'd quit acid if I started enjoying that sort of trash. Super basic things can have some appeal, but not super shit things. Do you enjoy this effect?
>point taken but if your drug experience encourages you get into media made to market toys to kids, that seems like a step in the wrong direction and a misuse of acid, submitting to the idea of "infantalizing the consumer as a means of non-aggressive control

All the time in /psy/ and in people I know who identify mostly as psychedelic users over any other kind of drug. Since you seem pretty aware of yourself and your behavior I'll go ahead and apologize for being a dick.

Also, to be fair, my behavior is typical for anybody on an imageboard. When it comes to trips, you have a name to put to the messages and you're already predisposed to believing they're pretentious shitbags (not that i blame you really, that's usually the case). Maybe more of the pretentious shitbags decide to use trips but honestly I think the reputation of a few colors your perception of the rest. Again, don't really blame you, I was literally guilty of doing exactly the same thing but with people who consider themselves avid psychedelic users and who indulge in the sub/counterculture surrounding that.
