Damn, NCAA made Jim Boeheim vacate 108 wins, dropping him to sixth all-time. Considering his age, I wonder if he'll ever officially get to 1000 wins, now.

Hard to say. The NCAA report was pretty scathing, someone there really hates Boeheim for whatever reason. Unless it comes out that Boeheim had no knowledge of the players failing their classes or drug tests or receiving the unsanctioned gifts and that it was strictly assistants doing this behind his back then I doubt he'll ever get those wins back. I still remember the mysterious circumstances behind Fab Melo's on-again-off-again eligibility years ago, I suppose that was the smoke and this explains the fire.

This also reminded me that the NCAA is still investigating Roy Williams and UNC's Men's Basketball team. Who knows when the hammer will drop on them, but when it does it could be as severe or more severe than this sanction.

That's true. I remember both of John Calipari's Final Four appearances were expunged for similar reasons but they don't take too kindly to academic violations.

I like VCU, but I don't like this match-up. I'm afraid VCU might not make it pass the Buckeyes. Wichita State Vs. Kansas should be a hell of a game to cap off the weekend, though.

Also, how the hell did UCLA get into the NCAA tournament? I had them pegged for a high NIT seed considering they beat absolutely no one of note this season.

Boise St. just got hosed. Bad on them for being a mess in that final play (how do you not have a play other than "iso" drawn up after a time out?), and it's an abnormal way to end a high stakes game, but if you get the defender to commit on a pump fake and attempt a shot and draw obvious contact then that's a foul.

And with saying that, UCLA barely managed to squeak by SMU with that goaltending call for the 3. I'm really surprised they called that since it was nowhere near going into the basket but hey I'm glad they won but SMU got screwed by that call.

This is what the NCAA's rules on goaltending are. The problem is that the "possibility, while in flight, of entering the basket" is not apparent in this play since the ball had no chance of going in. Plus the ref that called it was like 30 feet away so he couldn't have possibly been able to see that the ball wasn't going to go in.

Actual Ohio State player D'Angelo Russell: ""I wear the number 0 because that's the number of people in the country that can guard me."

Also, when asked who the best defender he faced this season was he said, "Nobody. I don’t feel like I can give anybody that credit.”"

He then went 3 for 19.

Stephon Marbury and his team won a 3rd championship in four years and was the MVP of the series.

Good for him.

I hated him in New York but it wasn't all on him, and I liked that he had 15 dollar sneaker and actually wore on the court.

His story sounds like a 30 for 30 documentary. he's a folk hero in China.

Hoping Tom Izzo can keep tossing his magic monkey wrench into the machine with a win over Duke tonight. Les Moonves is no doubt masturbating furiously over a Duke-Kenticky final, but I think that as a basketball fan that a national title win for Izzo or Ryan would mean more to the sport and each respective coach. Izzo has made 7 Final Fours but only won the title once while Ryan is a legendary D-III coach but has never won the D-I title.

I kind of laughed when I first saw the original article, cause it was posted like two days after the Wizards lost to the Nets by about 40, and Pierce played so little in the two teams' games together I literally didn't know he was signed with the Wizards until I saw this article.

I guess it is true that the Nets seem like they want to be that team that succeeds by buying up big established veterans, but Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Pierce and Garnett are the only ones they really did that with, and I'd say Johnson is the only one of those four that had any real big impact with the Nets so far.

I was never really sold on the Old Man Nets from a year ago, and that was before I even thought about any chemistry issues. Prokhorov & Billy King really fucked that franchise up with the Isiah Thomas Special, they won't be competitive for years now and I don't really blame their hipster fans for not giving a shit about the team. Also, good lord is Deron Williams terrible now. It seems that he's come down with the same disease that sapped Roy Hibbert of all of his talent. It's insane to remember the heated debates that were had years ago about Deron Williams Vs. Chris Paul regarding the league's best PG.

They're not that horrible. They need better players besides decent guys that are on their third or fourth team for not cutting it elsewhere, but they're hanging around and could probably improve with one or two legitimate acquisitions. I mean just this year they got the big upside in that Garnett/Young trade, since Brooklyn got a hot young player that's already improved them and all Minnesota got out of the deal was an old dog's nostalgia.

I'm not shocked, and it doesn't bother me, but I think this year's MVP race is just another notch on the age old argument of what "valuable" means. Without Curry I think Thompson would have stepped up like a middle class man's Russell Westbrook and the Warriors still would have made the playoffs, just not as a historically dominant #1 seed.

Without Harden, though, and I don't have the Rockets even making the playoffs. Especially considering the loss of Beverly and the quasi-part time nature of Howard. To me, I consider Harden more "valuable" to his team than Curry is to the Warriors. At the same time, I would consider Curry the more offensively dominant player, with Harden second. If there were MVP and MOP (Most Outstanding Player, possibly with an MOP for Offense and an MOP for Defense replacing Defensive Player of the Year) awards and I had votes in each, Harden would be my vote for MVP and Curry would be my vote for MOP.

The entire team came down with Ebola. Good lord, what the fuck was that? What a putrid way to end Tom Thibodeau's Bulls tenure. It will be interesting to see which team wins the Thibs sweepstakes over the summer. Bulls might as well re-hire Vinny Del Negro as coach since Forman and Paxon are such shmucks. I;m guessing they won't sign Butler to a max deal, either, so next year looks to be a tanking year for the Bulls. I wouldn't be surprised if they trade away Gibson for draft picks, too.

He seserves any and all scorn when a player as great as him whines, flops, and continually tries to stack the deck instead of creating depth around him. The Heat crumbled when Bosh and Wade went down and the same is happening with the Cav's now that Love and Irving have gone down. Cav's deserve to be swept by an average of 20 points per game, anything less than that hsould be considered a minor victory for a team that's just mediocre to utter shit around LeBron.

Almost no kids are physically ready to play pro football at 18 although I'm sure teams would take a chance on younger kids. The 3 year rule is good for letting them build themselves up. The real issue is that kids can't sell their likness or sell autographs which is bullshit, it creates "scandals" that shouldn't even be issues. Bribes are one thing, but that's just stupid.

NFL teams should be able to either draft the rights of 18 year-olds or bid on their draft rights, similar ot how MLB teams can draft 18 year-olds and develop them in the minors and how NBA teams now can draft international kids and let them develop in their respective league until the NBA team deems the kid ready for NBA ball.

yeah, the problem is that the NFL & NBA largely treat colleges as their "farm system" or minor leagues. South Park poked fun at the NCAA with "Crack Baby Basketball", but the pro leagues don't get nearly enough blame when this debate comes up...

It's weird when the NCAA preaches about "amateurism" but they have no problems making money hand over fist from the student athletes' work. It's one thing if the money raised goes to the schools, or even the coaches, but way too many other dudes are getting rich from bowl bids, uniform deals, TV rights to games, video games, etc... The easiest & most complete fix is to get the kids out of the NCAA as quickly as possible.

Of course, then NBA & NFL wouldn't like that because it would make running teams in their leagues more expensive.

>The real issue is that kids can't sell their likness or sell autographs which is bullshit, it creates "scandals" that shouldn't even be issues.
I think the real issue is that anyone wants to buy these things in the first place.

This. Baseball, hockey and even soccer have minor league systems in place that makes playing in college essentially optional. I mean NBA has the D-League but that's basically their version of NXT and the NFL doesn't have NFL Europa anymore, which didn't really work and lost them money. But the NCAA is essentially making money off the backs of so-called student-athletes in exchange for giving them an education that they really can take advantage of unless you're someone like Richard Sherman.

I know it happens. I just don't understand the college sports star worship, especially by adults - which is what I was trying to imply as being the "real problem" & leads to college sports being the high stakes money grab that it is.

These are athletes who, by definition, are not even at the highest level of their sport! If you want some sports memorabilia, aim higher! How would Matt Leinart autographs be holding up, in either resale or sentimental value today?

In any case, a grown ass man should not want to buy a college kid's autograph, and no one should be selling autographs to little kids.

It's a nostalgia thing, people go to school at a certain university and follow the teams there, then continue to follow them through adulthood. So a 50 year old guy loves his college team's new star and wants an autograph, he can afford it he's got money at this point and whatever, it's essentially a donation to something he enjoys. It's not malicious is the real point, nor does it have any impact on the competition of the game. There are worse things to give money to, sports are probably the most popular hobby in the world so I'm not sure why you're wondering why people enjoy them.

>I'm not sure why you're wondering why people enjoy them.
You don't have to put words into my mouth, and don't confuse buying an autograph of a college athlete with "enjoying sports". "Enjoying sports" is different from "enabling college kids to associate with scummy boosters, promoting a system that profits off college students and gives them relatively nothing in return, and/or do something against the rules of the NCAA".

>it's essentially a donation to something he enjoys.
Most of the time, it's a donation to a scummy reseller. It's malicious because it promotes these scummy resellers to hook up with the athletes and then get them suspended (like what happened to Gurly).

I know i'm being a bit of a pessimist here, because even if the NCAA changes the rules around this, I can't see them giving the lion-share of the money to anyone but themselves, and it would do the athletes the most good to get out of the NCAA as quickly as possible.

Yeah but if it wasn't against the rules than there would be nothing "scummy" about it. Hence the rules should be changed and it would just be innocent fan service on the part of anyone buying or selling signed memorabilia. Like they'd still do fine if they let kids have a share, but they just wont because they're greedy lol

Ya'll niggas need to give the Cavs credit for how far they got. I mean, the finals basically came down to the Cavs' C-Team going up against the Warriors' A-Team. Had they still had Irving and Love, this would have been a completely different narrative. When you're that far down on team members, every, everyone is going to be exhausted. Had the Cavs made half the shots they missed, it would have been a different game. Mozgov alone in the beginning could have changed the ending of the game had he not whiffed all those times he did. As great as he was defensively, he fucked up so many times offensively. And those fucking free throws... Even LeBron couldn't hold it together.

And LeBron; he gave it his all. He alone is not enough to carry the team but his leadership certainly made that band of misfits competitive. Seriously, that eleventh-hour drive had me on the edge of my seats. 30 seconds to go with a 4 point spread... there was a legit opportunity for the Cavs to either put the game into overtime or even possibly win that game and they were threatening to do so. As far as I'm concerned, if you don't have respect for the Cavs and LeBron James for what they did with such little, then you're an insufferable cunt who takes pleasure in kicking the underdog when they're down. The Cavs where a long shot to win it but you need to at least recognize that team was lead by a skilled sniper.

It is what it is and the Warriors beat a team that was running on fumes. Pure and simple. That's not to say the Warrior's are villains for winning against an outmatched opponent. This series was legit one of the best in years and it was hard-fought on both sides and the Warriors deserve their victory. I wish the Cavs would have won but they couldn't do it. They ran out of steam.

Completely agree. I'm glad my Spurs redeemed themselves against LeBron last year, but I love the way he plays, and really wanted to see him will his team to the title. I think next year will be LeBron's redemption season like the Spurs had last year. They'll probably drop Love, get Kyrie back (somewhat healthy), and most likely get a real 6th man and add two mid level scorers. They can play defense well, but getting some drivers and a consistent shooter will do them wonders.

Jimmy Butler says he wants a one year deal this season before cashing in in 2016. I can see him taking a sizeable, but still conservative contract that will allow him to attempt to win a ring in Cleveland, or he could cash in heavy on a shit show like LA or NY and then ride off with a big contract to a playoff team.

Butler's not leaving Chicago unless Forman & Paxon dsn't want him there. He wants a one year because the salary cap is going to explode in 2016, same reason Lebron onyl has a two year deal with Cleveland: they're cashing in on that new salary cap in 2016, but they aren't leaving their current teams. Any player that opts out of their contract this year needs to fire their agent because everyone is getting paid in 2016, but not if you sign a multi-year deal in 2015.

True, but Butler could take a one year deal with a legit playoff contender and make the same kind of money in one year that he would make with Chicago. As much as I'd love to see Rose return to MVP form, I think realistically he's much closer to Brandon Roy 2.0 than the Derrick Rose of old. I agree, but Rose is still loved, and if he stays healthy enough to play 75% of the season each year, that town is gonna always view him as their #1.

The only reason I think Butler could head off to a shit show like LA or NY is that he would make max money this season, have the opportunity to win them some games, and then in the next offseason with the increased cap, they could throw him a max contract and align him with multiple max contract players since they're big market cities. Both of those franchises are gonna get a top 3 player this year, and NY has Carmelo. Even Miami could be added to the mix if Wade walks away.

Oh yeah, Bulls fans will forever love Rose pretty much no matter what, but I think Rose understands that he likely will never be able to play as reckless as he used to and instead will need to facilitate more on offense, and that would involve creating opportunities for Butler to score. I also think Rose is a pretty humble guy and wouldn't have a problem seeing Butler excel.

It will be interesting to see how Hoiberg handles the team, though. I suppose if he and Butler don't mesh as well as Butler and Thibs did then it's possible Butler could leave. I wonder if the Bulls would try to trade Gasol and go with a backcourt of Noah-Gibson-Mirotic instead since a 4-deep backcourt doesn't really benefit everyone in real life as much as it does in a video game. Gibson and Mirotic are obviously more valuable, but I think trading either would be a huge mistake considering Gasol's in his twilight and playing with house money now and Noah is sadly breaking down, like all big men not named Tim Duncan or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar do.

He's not leaving Cleveland. I guess $21.6M wasn't enough for him so he's going to ask for more on a 1 year deal before cashing in on next year's salary cap explosion. Kevin Love, on the other hand, is likely going to be leaving Cleveland, though.

Not so fast, my friend.

Aldridge met with the Lakers again today, reportedly only speaking with Kupchak and Scott to focus on basketball and not superficial Los Angeles bullshit. I don't think they'll complete the Hail Mary and convince him to sign, though. My money's on him signing with the Spurs, and that Spurs team with Aldridge would be fucking terrifying. Supposedly Aldridge is meeting with the Heat, too, but I have no idea how he fits in there with Bosh and Whiteside.

Honestly, other than classic games on Youtube there really isn't an option. Pretty much nobody uploads full games during a season, I guess because sports highlights nullifies just about everyone's desire to watch non-live sports. Other than getting lucky during the playoffs when someone might upload games, your best bet to catch NBA games on-demand might be paying for NBA League Pass. It's expensive as all fuck, though.

I produce/edit a podcast - and he kind of hinted at the same thing, he also says the Kobe retirement season would be WAY more entertaining if they fired Bryon Scott and just let a new head coach come in and let the roster be fun and watch them win games.

I think he's kind of right. The Lakers just want to tank and lose, and they'll do it with Byron Scott as their head coach.

I wonder why people don't just retire quietly, but it will give him a bump in jersey sales, will give the lakers a bump in ticket sales (seriously, his last game in philly was the most packed the arena has been in years), and then i think back to chipper jones' retirement tour and how he was treated like a god in every stadium he visted for the last time.

Not really. Almost every bad team does it. Once it's clear you're not going to make the playoffs you sit your starters and try to lose as much as possible. It's true in baseball, football, hockey, and basketball. Usually teams will hire a coach and promise them job security just for the tank, one who can teach younger players well.

The sixers are an example of a failed version of this. They've been tanking for years, so they only have young players. Without older, better players to teach them how to act and how to play in the big leagues they're not doing as well as they could. Meanwhile a team like the Cubs is making the playoffs after years of being terrible because they got a ton of great draft picks.

that's why sports like ice hockey & basketball have a draft lottery, so even if you do tank, there's no guarantee you'll get the top pick.

there is enough parity in the NFL that it doesn't make sense to tank a whole season. by the time a team's season is lost, there are only a few games left and so they don't have as much control to determine where they'll end up in the standings.

the draft isn't as important in baseball as it is in other sports, so baseball teams are not likely to tank.

>sixers
they always had a 3 year tank plan. you can't really call it a failure until they are losing next year.

>>30304
what's also miserable is going back like 30 years only 9 different NBA franchises have won the championship, with many teams winning 2 or 3 in a row. it really is a league based on superstars, and no one is going to trade a superstar away.

what happens is teams get stuck in this limbo for years where they are always low seed in the playoffs, so they legit have no shot to win in the playoffs, and also get a terrible pick.

let's be real for once

The cavs would have won if Kyrie was 100% healthy and if they didn't shoot 30%
Blatt shouldn't have played bench players do much and the mistakes made by the cavs really fucked them over
the issue wasn't defense but rather offense
Love really should have made those hooks and Lebron really should have tried to penetrate and make those off-glass shots
I get that they don't have a Carmello type of player but Kyrie didn't even focus on those mid-long range shots, he just passed the ball and they took those shots and missed, with that said I was happy with JR's 3's
Also, cav's freethrows are straight garbage
They really need to work on more plays and pace, they are predictable

The Warriors are now only a game behind the 95-96 Bulls for the best regular season record in the NBA so far. They have a real chance of breaking or at least tying the record with the roster they have now but they really could be basketball's next dynasty. The Splash Brothers are unstoppable.

Trap game. Great team looking to take a night off against a bad team, starts game off slow, realizes they need to actually step it up in the 2nd quarter when it's apparent they aren't steamrolling the bad team, then things don't go their way when they can't turn it on at the flick of a switch, things just get worse in the second half, lose game. Pistons-Cavs should have been much closer but bad decisions by the Pistons sunk their chances at an upset. Drummond should have eaten the Cavs alive in the paint with the Cavs opting not to play a center but he put up a dud. Reggie Jackson killed his team by playing hero ball those last 5-6 minutes, too.

Pistons are too young with no veteran leadership. Can't stay in control late in games and stay focused and so their defense completely evaporates and their offensive movement becomes sloppy or nonexistent. Beating the Cavs was going to be a major upset anyways, but they really should have been able to push the series to at least 6 games considering how flawed of a team Cleveland is despite the top seeding. I was looking forward to another '07 Mavs-Warriors or '09 Bulls-Celtics but instead the Pistons are going to be swept now.

Also, this entire first round has been dreadful. Hopefully the next round produces some actually exciting games and series.

Curry's injury was wild. Someone knocked over Montajunas and the dude slide across the top of the key like 5 feet and it left a giant, sweaty wet spot on the court and so like half a second later Curry ran over it and luckily didn't blow his knee out when he slipped and did some quasi-splits. He has a bad sprain, though, so he won't even be doing rehab for another 10 days or so.

There's a good chance Curry will be back for the Conference Finals against the Spurs, but who knows if he'll be at 100% by then. If he can't cut and drive on that knee, or worse, re-injures it right away then I don't think the Warriors will beat the Spurs.

Not so much dependent, but he's the league MVP for a reason so it hurts their chances against fellow elite teams with him not there. I think the Warriors can beat anyone in the league without Curry in a 7 game series except for the Spurs. Maybe the Cavs, too, but I'm still not sure what to make of that team. They're so wildly inconsistent and have a lot of team chemistry issues that it feels like a crapshoot on how they'll perform on a game-by-game basis.

I just don't understand why the Cavs are trying to play so defensively when it's not and never has been their forte. OKC played better defense against Golden State than the Cavs could ever hope to and they still got taken out so It blows my mind that they're taking this approach to the Finals. I'll give it one more game before calling it a series but I seriously cannot believe how bad the Cavs performed these last two games. This shit's fucked.

Warriors lost because Draymond Green literally cannot stop himself from hitting other plays in the dick. Still, though, unless the Cavs can procure footage of Green dick-kicking and/or dick-punching someone across the street during Game 5 then there's no chance in hell they'll force a game 7.

Thompson looked like the real MVP of the Warriors, down by 20 late into the third he cut the lead in half with Curry on the bench.

I would like to see Lebron end Cleveland's suffering (imagine this and the cubs win the WS later in the year too)

Also we'll get no more discussions of Lebron's legacy for hours on sportscenter, (probably replaced with Lebron vs MJ again).

It just gets bigger if he drops 40 game 7 on the road against a record breaking team. His legacy forcing a game 7 against a record breaking team is still pretty good.

That was legit one of the best game 7s. LeBron with that block, the drama of him getting hurt, when.he missed that first free throw I thought he would miss the second and Curry would tie it. Curry made it so obvious he would chuck a three, thought he should have passed it or make a quick two and foul.

But LeBron made the second and was amazing. It's also a great story from returning to the Cavs, losing the title in 2015, and then all of this.

so bummed about how Rose's career as a Bull turned out, not that it's his or anyone's fault really. i just remember how amazing he was for a short time and get nostalgic about watching him play (that series with the Celtics in what 09? or whenever that was comes to mind even though I think the Bulls lost). a rough mix of team identity (Thibs was great imo but he was very defensive minded) and of having talent around him and under performing, injuries and all that made it so that he never really reached his true potential even though he grabbed an MVP way back when.

sucks, if things had gone differently he probably could have won a title or two with the Bulls. as for the trade itself, i'm very meh on it. at first i thought it was just a straight cash dump but with the players the Bulls got it's almost completely even in terms of who they got and traded away from a money stand point. i like Lopez a lot even if he's a bit streaky, Calderon seems like an old PG who has had his own injury problems so I'm not thrilled about him, and I don't even know who the third guy is. i liked Holliday but he only really showed up for stretches, not so bummed about losing him.

shit just looking at the Bulls PG/SG situation is depressing right now, it's a mix of no name young guys and old journeymen, and Butler if he can stay healthy. the roster still looks alright (as long as Pau plays another year) but it's not a real contender. RIP

Bulls dumping Rose's salary and a goddamned draft pick for Jose Calderon, Brook Lopex and Marquis Teague 2.0 is absolutely heinous. Foreman and Paxon have completely ruined a contender in just two years. Bulls are going to be a lottery team next season and they're going to be trotting out a starting lineup of Aaron Brooks, E'Twuan Moore, Doug McDermott, Bobby Portis, and Christiano Felicio after the trading deadline as the entire United Center fills up with vomit while Gar Foreman and John Paxson keep blowing copious amounts of smoke up Reinsdorf's asshole as they assure him that Chicago has a real shot at signing Russell Westbrook. What a fucking crock of shit the Bulls front office is.

You got it backwards, the Knicks are gunning for a playoff birth next season and the Bulls are imploding their team for a rebuild. If everyone stays healthy then the Knicks most definitely can be a lower seed in the East with Porzingis, Anthony and Rose. That could potentially be a dangerous offensive team, too, because all three cover so much ground on offense: Porzingis for big guy 3's and post play, Carmelo for mid-range and post mismatches, and Rose for drives to the hoop and running the offense/passing. Hell, if Rose can find his three-point touch (and, I mean, ason-fucking-Kidd somehow ended up one of the greatest 3-point shooters in NBA history so anything's possible) then that adds another weapon to that offense. Afflalo is also a perfectly cromulent NBA shooting guard, too, so again, if the Knicks hit the health lottery then they have a solid Eastern Conference lineup to get them to the playoffs. The wild card with that team is how will their defense be. Hornacek isn't known for being a defensive guru so I'm wondering if the Knicks goofed by not hiring Thibs over Hornacek, but if Hornacek can get some mid-2000's Suns mojo going with this Knicks team then it'll be interesting.

Bulls are straight fucked this season, though. They'll be "playing" (read:losing) for a top 5 draft pick in 2017. No way they finish the season with Gibson, Gasol and Mirotic on the team, and if they can find a taker for Butler's remaining old max contract then he'll be gone for picks and the puu puu platter special, too.

Glad the WNBA rescinded the ban. It's an important issue and players should be free to express their support - https://www.yahoo.com/amphtml/sports/news/amid-heavy-criticism-wnba-rescinds-players-warmup-shirt-fines-152551162.html

Also props to Michael Jordan for making that huge donation.

Kevin Garnett is now retired. Had a long and good career helping both the Timberwolves and Celtics become dominant teams and taking them to the playoffs. A future HOFer for sure.

Actually I'd go with Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili in between those considering their international profiles in their respective countries.

I don't want to watch my Spurs without Ginobilli. It's gonna weird to watch without Duncan, but without Manu. One more year.

Good lord, the Rockets don't have anyone on their team that can play defense, not even the corpse of Trevor Ariza. Also why the fuck is Nick Young starting and playing crunch time minutes for the Lakers? Luke Walton is high as shit.

Lebron wasn't that agressive in the Knicks game. Kyrie's handles are beautiful. I'm also wondering if the Cav's bench is going to hold their own. This is going to be an interesting season.

Really looking foward to Key Felder's minutes. Same height as Isiah Thomas, and he's also a pg. It'd be interesting to see if he outpreforms Delly or Mo' stats with the cavs.

Posse is synonymous with gang, gangbangers, set, etc.

Yeah "gang" as in "wild west outlaws", never heard of it being synonymous with "gangbangers" or a derogatory term for a group of black people, though. What other examples has there been where "posse" was used as a racially-charged insult?

Sad news. I was hoping he might have survived longer but after news of the 3rd marrow transplant and chemo updates on his status dried up completely which lead me to believe that he was nearing his end. His last few years alive must have been hell, but at least there was a little bit of happiness in his last year when he got to work an NBA Finals game for the first time and he got to see the Cubs win the World Series.

>never heard of it being synonymous with "gangbangers"
Well, that definition is limited to those social circles
Example of it being used in a sentence:
>>"What posse are you with?"
>"2NN Crips"
>"Elm street piru bloods"

>or a derogatory term for a group of black people
Well, it's not exactly derogatory, only in the case of the caller being white. It's a word mostly limited to the african-american sub-culture. Think of it like "nigga": it's ok for blacks to use it as a term of endearment but it's less ok for a white person to say it. This is all stupid.

>What other examples has there been where "posse" was used as a racially charged insult?
I think people would rather say "jolly african-american" in those scenarios. I also think this definition of posse is quite new and only established in nefarious-minority-youth climates.

It's really weird. I haven't watched the NBA for a long time, so I don't have a real connection to his long career. But it is still strange to know that the dude you watched on a screen recently is dead. I should be disconnected because it happens all the time and in this case across the world but I can't help but reflecting on the fact that was an actual human being like me.

Still not buying this. I can see the slight being that Jackson insinuated that LeBron's friends were hanger-on's and not business associates with the "posse" remark but I see zero racial connotation with the term and how it was used. It seems like a case of instead of focusing on the professional slight people instead tried to make this into a case of racism since Jackson is old and white. Except Jackson is old and white and is a revered NBA coach and not a single black man before ever accused him of being racist or even insinuating it and so the chances of Jackson suddenly becoming a racist are slim to none.

As a follow up, Latrell Sprewell and JR Rider(!!!) are gonna be in the league, too. Isn't JR Rider like 300 lbs these days? This league is going to be wild. They have to convince T-Mac to do this, I bet he would be like the MVP of the league.
