People believe the earth is flat, and that the sky is a dome. Under the earth, they think there's noxious gas and stuff to explore, but a secret society keeps people from exploring. Yeah, and those people think Brady should've been suspended. People talk about "integrity" of the game like it means anything. We've got women beaters, child abusers, drunk drivers, and drug addicts lining up every week, and the guy who prefers his football to be a little lighter has somehow hurt the shield? Fuck that.

The fucked up thing is that I believed Hardy should've been suspended for at least 2 seasons, if not banned from the league, but now he's a Cowboy. I want him to fight the appeal, knowing he can probably get it reduced to two games. Fuck integrity and fuck unneeded suspensions.

If Hardy and Peterson can take snaps, then Brady should be given all the penalty calls he's gonna be complaining about.

What does this have to do with the integrity of the game? Yeah, this is an issue, but it has nothing to do with what goes on whistle-to-whistle. It's not the NFL's job to punish criminals. Also, these guys do get suspended (even on top of criminal charges), so I really don't see what your issue is.

Do you believe the deflated balls gave The Patriots an advantage over the Colts in the AFC Title game? Because that''s the only game where we know for a fact that the PSI was lower. Do you actually think they gained an advantage in that game, beyond playing at home and playing a team they beat by multiple scores earlier in the year?

Also, are you talking about Brady destroying his personal phone and texting the "deflator" and shit? Like that makes him some kind of monster. (This monster lives)

A) I think the NFL new the suspension wouldn't hold but they wanted to look like they were on top of things.

B) The Patriots have a long history of bending the rules and skirting by on it. Suspending Brady was the only real way to punish them beyond token fines to the billionaire owner or millionaire head coach.

C) Teams are allowed to do pretty much anything they want to the ball prior to the game to make the QB comfortable. One of the only regulations is that the ball be inflated to a certain level, the Patriots were under inflating them. Does it give them a massive advantage? Likely not. But they were breaking the rules and had a history of doing so and they needed something done.

There absolutely is something to it, but the fact that the NFL hasn't done anything yet makes me think they aren't going to start now. The public at large watches football as an excuse to drink beer, eat wings & bet. The NFL knows this and thus has to keep up this veneer of integrity up at all costs, even if it means they knowingly let organizations break the rules.

The only way this gets legs is if Vegas stops taking bets...

If they were actually breaking into other teams' facilities to steal shit from them, that's like the only time since the 70's where the -gate name for a scandal is actually appropriate. I'm not sold on it, because I'd have a hard time believing teams could know that they do this well enough to put out decoy shit for them to steal, but wouldn't be willing to just tell the league about it.

it's now being reported that the ref made racist comments towards the kids & the kids' coach told them that "the ref needs to pay for blowing the call earlier". it's odd that the kids need 2 different excuses, but i guess they are hoping if one doesn't work, the other will at least keep them out of jail.

I'm kind of skeptical of them pulling the race card. Then again, I'm not familiar with the San Antonio area. Is there a lot of anti-Latino/Mexican sentiment in the area? I was under the impression that places like San Antonio and Austin were pretty liberal/kumbaya/whatever in regards to whites getting along with minorities. I guess until some research is done on the ref there's not enough info to decide if he's some renegade racist or not.

High school athletics is pretty fucked like 90% of the time, though, especially football, so I'm more inclined to believe the d-back coach is just a fucking lunatic that takes amateur athletics waaaaay too fucking seriously and used a couple of dumb jocks to enact his insane revenge against a ref he didn't care for.

Remember a story not too long ago about baseball players all conspiring against a home plate ump to the degree that for a pitch the batter specifically did not swing, the catcher intentionally did not try to catch the ball, and the pitcher intentionally pitched the ball directly at the ump's head? This is basically the same petty shit, but football instead of baseball. I'm pretty sure players have attacked refs during soccer matches, too. And parents have tried to fucking murder ice hockey coaches and refs. Amateur athletics are fucked, man. Sometimes I look back on my childhood and I feel lucky that I never had to deal with this sort of insane shit despite playing team athletics until I graduated from high school.

I'm pretty much done with his team for the rest of the year and I doubt they'll ever get better.

Seriously
Fuck Obrien, Fuck Rick 'can't draft for shit' Smith
And Fuck Bob McNair for not firing both of these clowns.

And the only reason I'm still a fan of this shitastic team is because I'm not a bandwagon bitch and I was there during the Dom 'no offense' Capers and David Carr era as a kid and see how bad it can be.

But this is worst. This team has no future.

Yeah, looks like that move really paid off for the 49er's. They lost the game, couldn't run the ball and now they killed the interest in Hayne's jersey sales. What a trash heap of a franchise the 49er's have become in the span of a year.

Well, Gaskins and Davis sure had an impressive game there, combining for ten whole yards on fifteen carries. I hope the 49ers are happy with their new RB duo now that Hyde will be out for a few weeks and Bush seems to have torn his ACL (because of course he did). Oh right, and Davis injured his hand.

GG Niners. Have fun running Gabbert as QB and Kaep as RB.

And he's already there. That went surprisingly quickly.

In other Niners News: Vernon Davis traded to Broncos for some shitty draft picks. I guess he wasn't doing a lot in the offense, but there's reports that he was one of the players that were vocal regarding a QB change, which might have been a contributing factor.

I have no idea what's going on with this team anymore. I guess they're going into a rebuild mode of some kind, but also some sort of "we need to figure out what the fuck we're going to do with this entire god damn offense" mode, which is not a good mode to be in.

It is when a part of you has been desiring a complete breakdown of this team.

I can't help being just a bit petty when the team (well, Harbaugh, but the team gave him pretty much free reign to do it) shit on my BFF Smith in favor of Kaep, who I never really liked, and the team 1) completely imploding from the team that made the Super Bowl just a few years ago and 2) turning straight back into a team with a supposed first-round bust QB that's slowly working out the magic of the checkdown after spending his entire career before that getting the shit beaten out of him and a minor coach from the Mike Nolan era turned head coach that's way in over his fucking head just like back in 2008 under Singletary is just so beautifully ironic.

Never thought I would consider my move from the 49ers to the Chiefs as the team I primarily root for would turn out to be a move to greener pastures, especially given that the Chiefs are 5-5 right now despite losing their star RB, undoubtedly the player on the roster with the most talent.

Additional fun fact: If the season ended today, the Chiefs would be in the playoffs. That's just fucking weird.

Well defense wise Carolina was always pretty good, even more so in the last 2-3 years. Our offense has been our main issue for quite awhile, when the offense can take advantage of our defense putting in work then you can see the result.

now the scary thing is if the Pats could win the superbowl with the record of 18-1. Who else in the regular season could beat them?

Eagles
@Texans
Titans
@Jets
@Dolphins

Heard Gronk might miss more than one game so the next two games are key especially if the Texans finally have a Defense besides Watt. Then again Brady could use Scott Chandler and make him look like a superstar. Only way the Pats would be an underdog in any of these matchups is if Brady gets hurt and misses a game.

Crazy to think of how many teams Matt Hasselbeck could have helped the past couple of years had he not been been Andrew Luck's back-up. This year alone the Browns, Texans, 49er's, Eagles, and Rams would have slotted Hasselbeck as their starting QB, right? And he would make all of those teams' putrid passing games better.

The defense got alot better, and Cam got a little bit better. He doesn't the deserve the mvp award though. Palmer has been playing great, and it's sad and annoying to see him ignored. If the award was given today, I'd split it between Palmer and Brady.

So far, it looks like the final 4 will be Panthers, Cardinals, Patriots, and Bengals. Brady's got a good shot at getting that 5th ring, becoming just the second player (Charles Haley is the first) to do so.

You and I both know damn well that ain't gonna happen. Bengals never win when it counts. Also, there is usually a surprise team or two in there. If you look at NCAA bball tourny, the top seeds are very, very rarely the final 4.

I'd say Cardinals and Patriots are the best bets. Obvi the Panthers are playing very well, but it wouldn't surprise me if they get bounced by a wildcard like the Seahawks or Vikings.

Video of the event for the unaware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovb_jGwAAq8
I've been waiting for something like this to happen.
(1) Most players probably don't know the intricacies of the coin flip rules; Namely, that deferring even exists, that picking what happens at the start of the second half exists (deferral or not), that deferring isn't the same as kicking (apparently, espn doesn't know either: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14446123/bill-belichick-new-england-patriots-says-matthew-slater-followed-instructions-defer-ot-possession ), and that picking the wind isn't the same as either. (Don't say "We'll kick that way.", because the ref will interpret that as you've decided to kick, and the other team will decide which goal to defend.)
(2) If I was a coach, I would either (a) not let anyone out there that I couldn't trust to know all the tricky/bull-shit rules 100%, or (b) just tell them to always say "We'll receive." Anyways, BB should know better. I don't care if he has to get the nerdy punter or backup lineman or whoever out there to get it right.
(3) The ref shouldn't be able to prompt the player with "You want to kick?". They should be forced to ask: "Do you want to choose who receives or which goal to defend?" They often leave out the latter, which unfairly implies that choosing to kick lets you also pick which goal to defend. Really, the competition committee should change this, just like they changed calling the coin flip in the air years ago. At least we don't have snafus like this ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nd9BM8ssYM ) anymore. (Although, Joe Namath tried his best to fuck it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOaoRQdvgY8 )

> The ref shouldn't be able to prompt the player with "You want to kick?".

Seemed like the Pats player cut him off when he was asking "You want to kick..or receive?". I think the main thing they did wrong wasn't that they didn't want to kick, it's that they didn't know that you don't get to choose the direction in which you kick when you defer. The loser of the coin flip always gets to choose direction in which they defend and Pats seemed to have forgot that which is where the confusion came in.
>>

>it's that they didn't know that you don't get to choose the direction in which you kick when you defer
They didn't defer. Deferring isn't the same thing as kicking. Deferring is choosing to choose at the start of the second half instead of the first half. The other team might (foolishly) choose to kick at the start of the first half, which would mean you get to receive at the start of both halves.
>The loser of the coin flip always gets to choose direction in which they defend
No, they don't. The loser of the coin flip gets to choose who receives, or which goal to defend, **whichever the winner didn't choose**. If the winner deferred, then the loser picks either, and then the winner picks whichever remains.

The Pats guy fucked up because he didn't want to choose to kick, he wanted to choose which goal to defend.

Sadly, people have misunderstood the coin flip for over 50 years now, and will probably misunderstand it for 50 more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLSBHJpHsRY#t=80

New details say that Smith rear-ended the guy first, then drove away instead of stopping, causing the guy to drive after Smith and rear-end him in retaliation. Also apparently there was a loaded gun in Smith's car, too, but wasn't discharged. So basically it sounds like Smith drove liek a shithead, then called some crazy asshole's bluff after the crazy asshole retaliated, and maybe even threatened the guy with a gun before the crazy guy pulled his own gun and unloaded a clip into Smith and then a couple shots on his wife for good measure.

bosa doesn't have that "elite speed" though. and in the NFL he won't have elite size either. he's got tons of moves/skill but he'll have to be REALLY crafty to actually return the investment people are gonna put on him.

best player in this draft in terms of who will fulfill 1st-round value the quickest and easiest is Vernon Hargreaves. but you won't hear from him much in the NFL cause offenses won't even be throwing to his side.

I actually feel that the NFL is slowly progressing, though. There's a great big groundswell in the media about how demonizing marijuana in professional sports, especially the pain-inducing job of playing in the NFL, is asinine because it's much more healthier to alleviate pain than to put people on addictive pharmaceuticals with side effects. The owners can be as cranky and old and white as they want, but the backlash against the league punishing people smoking pot more than they punish people that drive drunk or beat their significant others is only going to grow stronger and stronger each month. I expect the NFL to revise their drug testing sometime within the next few years (whenever collective bargaining with the union starts again) to allow cannabis as a pain relief method on off days with some restrictions, such as not allowing cannabis usage within x days of a game or having players being able to opt into a legal cannabis program so that they may have to take more drug tests to monitor usage, but they won't be fined or suspended as long as their tests come back as expected. Obviously the whole league won't turn into hundreds of potheads, but I feel that the option should be given to the guys that want to use it instead popping pills or taking injections.

Absolutely, I bet my man Eli was getting some sweet payments but his dad told him to shut up because of the "culture" or otherwise he'd have to actually play for the Chargers lol. Only problem is that I doubt he can single handedly turn around the Dolphins, might help them make the playoffs but like, nothing too wild. I'm excited to see him though, might actually make the Dolphins worth following or at least watching occasionally.

i mean, from what i've heard it's already pretty common in the NFL and like, i've heard plenty about the NHL having some potheads too. NBA has even more than either of those, plenty of dudes who show up and play high even. I know i'd be doing it if I were them, nothing goes better with some hard opiates than bud lol. I doubt the league will make it as formal as you're saying though, more that it'll just start ignoring positives for pot unless The Rog really wants to fuck with a guy, and even then they won't make that big of a deal about it. the NFL loves to fuck up in public perception but they have SOME IDEA of what people think is good and bad.

once they let it go and just stop penalizing for it there'll be guys who do it openly like Gronk and his drinking now, and guys who're low-key with it, and it'll just kinda become like it is in general culture. it'll be nice to not have to pretend these guys aren't smoking pot and we can actually start talking about important shit.

Well I'm glad Baylor took action to fire Art Briles but it's too little too late. Baylor has a shitty reputation for sports (remember Patrick Dennehy?) but it's not like any sexual assault investigation will change the football program too much as we learned with Penn State. College football is just as bad as the NFL when it comes to off the field "distractions".

The 2016 CFL season kicked off yesterday with Hamilton beating Toronto 42-20. Here's a preview for this season - http://www.cfl.ca/kickoff2016/. pic related, first ever home game at Toronto's new home BMO Field.

Who do you guys think will win the Grey Cup? I think the RedBlacks could pull it off.

I think he's too young for the effects of CTE unless he somehow has had like 20 concussions already (he's only 22), but he would be basically mentally retarded already and wouldn't have been cleared to play football. The Hall of Fame Game got cancelled due to the conditions of the field. Apparently there was rain after a Tim McGraw concert on Friday and because of the mud and stuff, they couldn't paint the field and the conditions couldn't improve enough for it to be playable.

Also the quarterfinals of the AFL playoffs were this weekend. Philadelphia beat Tampa Bay 63-41 and Jacksonville beat Orlando 69-68 in overtime to advance to the American Conference Championship. Arizona beat Portland 84-40 and Cleveland beat Los Angeles 56-52 to advance to the National Conference Championship. I could see the Arena Bowl being Arizona vs. Philadelphia and Arizona winning their 4th title in 5 seasons.

Man the Chargers are real idiots for not being able to negotiate with Joey Bosa because of their dumb policy with rookies signings when it comes to offset language and bonus deferrals, which is the complete opposite of what other teams do. They're gonna be screwed if Bosa doesn't sign and ends up somewhere else.

Other teams do use that language in contracts, a few of his fellow draftees signed contracts with those same terms in them. It's a little weird to me that the union isn't getting in on having that shit removed; I know teams like to use it to move money around in specific phases but it is also kind of shady.

It's been a long off-season. I hope the Colts do better than I think they will. Gotta wait and see how the D fares and how well the o-line has improved. Luck better earn that paycheck.

I don't really watch any games besides the ones the Colts are in. Been a fan since I was a kid and one year when my house caught fire someone got me an autographed Peyton Manning rookie card and an autographed Becket mag that compared him and Leaf. That made me more of a fan.

I also watch every Notre Dame game.

Who's on first?

But other teams at least are willing to offer favorable terms even when they do include offset language so their top picks don't have to hold out for this long and jeoporadize not being able to play at all. The Chargers aren't willing to compromise especially if they also want to make Bosa defer his signing bonus. These rookie contracts under the new CBA don't seem to give enough balance to both ownership and rookies.

The Colin Kaepernick national anthem controvery fairly reminiscent of when Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf did the same thing about 20 years ago and not surprisingly, he got shitted on for it. However in Abdul-Rauf's case, he did it for religious reasons whereas Kaepernick's is political. I give credit to him for taking stand for what he believes in at least even if it's not a view that's a popular one in a patriotic country that puts its armed services and law enforcement on a pedestal.

The 1st round pick is crazy enough, but what in god's name is the reasoning behind the conditional pick? They got Bradford because they think they can win now, but if they do win big this season that 4th round pick goes as high as a 2nd round pick and then the Vikings are completely fucked in the 2018 draft as well. But then if they don't win this year then they still lose their best draft pick next year and depending on how far they get into the playoffs they lose an important pick in the next draft, too. I have a burning sensation in my brain right now.

I've been doing my damndest to try to ignore football scandals all offseason, I've been doing a pretty good job of looking past all the scummy shit but I think that season opener was a bridge too far. I could reconcile the problems as long as I could tell myself the league is getter better and safer, but it clearly isn't, it's just saying it is in commercials.
At least 4 high speed helmet to helmet collisions on newton, 1 penalty flag thrown, 0 penalty yards awarded, dude looked like he was punch drunk in his press conference and apparently the league neurologists asked him a couple questions after the game but nothing serious.

I just keep thinking to myself am I going to remember that game in 10 years as part of a great rivalry, or because siemiean retires from a good career, or because cam newton kills himself.

Nobody's going to care until someone actually dies on the field. It is what it is, man. The league makes far too much money to change and fans are too indoctrinated to love everything NFL to stop watching and spending money on the NFL to force change. The sad thing is that even after that first player dies on the field the NFL will still hire people to try and disprove and fault and then pay many more to poison the media well to keep the public still lovin' dat NFL.
