Let's talk Wimter Olympics!
What sports are You here for? Do you like the raw power of speed skating, the majestic ski jump?
Are you in it for the Russian hotties (poor Russians) the Japanese cuties, or the Nordic specimens?

I've been going hard on figure skating and speed skating, but I can't wait to get on some ski/snowboard cross, and curling.

What's the difference between alpine skiing and freestyle skiing?

Ice hockey. I'm interested to see how it plays out without any NHL players. Also bobsleigh/skeleton/luge.

>What's the difference between alpine skiing and freestyle skiing?

Alpine skiing focuses on racing downhill whereas freestyle skiing focuses on pulling off tricks and stuff.

No pros, and possible no Russians.

Could we see outsiders reach metals this year?

Pity about the Russians, but I am hoping that means more medals for 'merica!!

Anyone watching the NBCOlympic channel or the events on the nbcsports app? Today I was watching biathlon and luge. Lots of skiing events. Good times.

Its like when in the 80s when the Soviet union and co. boycotted the 86 Olympics and McDs had to lose billions in free food.

84 actually but yeah they lost a lot on that promotion cause the US won everything.

Ah, yeah, it was 84, granted I mostly know about it because of the Simpson parody of it.

I recorded the US vs Canada mixed doubles curling match just to see what the fuck curling is - I'm trying to figure it out as I watch, now. They showed some highlights from the other games, too, and... shit, almost all these women are attractive. Above average at worst, IMO: even the US girl is pretty hot for a Wisconsinite lol and the Canadian is cute as fuck. She could guide me to her button, nawmean?

I remember when I was deployed in Iraq and they had curling on in the cafeteria. No one knew what was going on, but everyone clapped and cheered when the thing made it to the middle of the bullseye or close to it.

Curling is a really weird sport.

Curling certainly is weird. Especially when you pair the calm play style with the super harsh yelling everyone does.

So the games already started right? The US just started airing games but so far it's only Men's & pair's figure skating and later freestyle skiing. I want my curling dammit! Also looking forward to hockey and ski jump.

Anyone know what's going on with coverage in the US? NBC is handling it, but it doesn't seem like they'll be using other networks as well (MSNBC/NBCSP).

I'm curious how the Korean citizens feel about this "Unified Korea" business.

>>32049
Ehhhh, that's entirely up to you. I'd rather watch the full hockey games than highlights, and I'm trying to see a little bit of everything so I can find out whether I like the rest of the sports or not.

lmao it took me 15 minutes into the Women's Switzerland / Korea hockey game to realize that there's no checking; it seems like it's more about finesse and puck-handling than physical play, I like it.
>that fuckin' first period hat trick
Wow. And here I thought that women's hockey would be like women's basketball - enjoyable if you like the game, but generally less exciting.

Those Hamilton siblings are fun to watch in mixed doubles curling. Sucks they won’t medal though but hopefully the US does better in the men’s and women’s tournaments.

Did anyone see the Japanese kid land on the lip of the snowboard half pipe? He's OK now, but it looked pretty brutal live. I thought he hit his head/neck, but it was apparently just a hip injury.

>>32062
It's also easy to broadcast, both logistically (it's all indoors and has built in breaks for commercials) and in the ability to tell stories about the backgrounds of the skaters. Plus, there's all that drama waiting for the score to drop. It's not like other sports where you gotta add/average multiple runs to figure out who is winning, or wait over an hour to watch an entire race. The 4 minute bursts of action broken up by other stuff is a normal TV cadence, really.

Curling is just a mix of billiards and bocce. Or a shuffleboard variation on ice.

You just reminded me about that old Japanese footage from the '94 Olympics that was recorded in HD as a test.

Elizabeth Swaney is Eddie the Eagle if she was a trust fund baby who bought her way into the Olympics took advantage of others who crashed that actually put in the effort to try to qualify. They really need to overhaul how people can qualify for events especially for ones with a small field of competitors like the women's ski halfpipe. Such an embarrassment.

This brother and sister team or the "Shib Sibs" as they are stupidly called is the creepiest, most disgusting thing I have ever seen in figure skating. These siblings are all dancing to romantic music, caressing each other, grabbing each others asses, who the fuck thought this would be a good idea?
>>
C-Higgy !lfsExjBfzE - Sat, 24 Feb 2018 22:08:23 EST ID:tdsOWxBd No.32076 Report Quick Reply
Fuck yeah the US got the gold in men’s curling. Curling is my favorite winter Olympic sport now. 🥌 🇺🇸 🥇

>>32075
Well Figure Skating does rely on the supposed sexual tension between the skaters. The Shib Sibs are good but when you’re competing with the likes of David Weir and Tessa Virtue, it’s hard to do the things Weir/Virtue and other pairs can do.
