Any belligerent asshole who is going to fight you over a shirt is probably not really short on excuses for fighting you. Wear it if you like it. Personally I think they're just regular fitted polos and there are more than enough brands to choose from and not having to pay premium to "relive" some scene nostalgia bullshit from 40 years ago.

Aren't the colour of their laces the main thing between bone/skinheads?
Archie Fanwill - Sat, 25 Apr 2015 17:19:34 EST ID:U73K+tjn No.60094 Ignore Report Quick Reply

From your word choice, I'm guessing you are American? I know your punk scene took a it a lot harder than the UK did, but the skinhead fred perry stuff spawned from the UK i'm sure. Even out here nobody associates Fred Perry with being a skinhead and even if they do, it's been soo heavily reapproriated that it nobody can make a deal out of it.

Doesn't sound likely, wearing blue or red bandana prints is one thing but a brand of polo worn by everyone?

I keep going to get haircuts and I never get the layers I want my hair is always one single lenght on top. What do I do? None of the hair dressers cut layers the way I want them. Is it really that hard or what?

All I want is short hair on the sides and kind of a fringe with those really short layers in it.

Taking care of slip ons/canvas shoes? Or even just general shoes... by Nell Divingmidge - Sun, 12 Apr 2015 08:07:02 EST ID:/1vIiGhN No.60064 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Hi guys

I was recently gifted a nice pair of Vans slip ons (pic related). I had a pair before (different design) but they only lasted me 3 months. After 3 months, they were absolutely torn to shreds and I had to get rid of them. Which is a shame because theyre not the cheapest shoes and also theyre really comfortable, I really like them as shoes.

So how does one take good care of shoes? I had another pair of canvas runners (sneakers for you guys or whatever) that also only lasted me a few months. My feet are quite big and I have a tendency to wear the same pair of shoes all the time. I bought a cheap pair of shoes to wear when the weather is not good or if Im going to rocky terrain or whatever.

Share your shoe-saving tips, especially slip ons & canvas shoes... cos I am so sick of throwing away nice shoes so frequently.

just suck it up and drop 100-200 on a nice pair of shoes that will last you forever and can possibly re-sold if you kept them in good condition.

At the very end it says "be yourself and you'll be emo as fuck", so what if by being myself I wear tight jeans, I wear neon colors, straighten my hair, wear wristbands, etc etc. Would I still be emo or would I be a poser?
These are the real conundrums.
Speaking purely as someone who was a "scene kid" from 05-09, I knew a lot about emo music, like legit emo music, your sunny day real estate, Early Jimmy eat world, Rites of Spring Etc.
I got in long winded fights with people that called MCR, The Used and Taking back Sunday emo bands.
Or would I be considered punk, cause I was 1 of like 4 other kids that dressed like that in high school.

Even clones develop individuality. I didn't just do the scene kid thing, I had a lot of different looks. For a while I went to school in a clashing plaid shirt and tie, with a top hat, Just because I could and I didn't give a fuck.

If we're talking about emo, the bands you listen to are a quintessential part of it.

I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that your looks haven't been 100% unique and new.
Ever wear just a t-shirt and jeans? oh wow how drab, such a clone of 90% of the population.

That's what makes those pictures of how to dress like a certain subgroup so funny, because most people's style can fit into a catagory, and they can be thrown into a certain sub culture.
Emo is still a better style than hypebeasts.

Like google image sneakers+suit, they all look ridiculous, or a best, would look better wearing proper shoes. Age isn't the issue really (though where I live this is a particularly a crime of the over 40 set trying to be 'hep', especially showing their pasty ankles, urrrghhhh). Firstly where are you planning on donning this? You could get away with it like going to some shitty club with bad lighting or prom, where no one knows better. Maybe not so much anywhere else. And then why insist on it? If you like it though bro, go for it, I just think that there are better ways to go about the whole casual suit look.

I once wore a brand new pair of black suede jordans with a suit to my high school prom. I'd say it's an exception to most sneaker/suit combos, but I and everyone who saw it (including adults, teachers, and classmates) thought they went perfectly with the suit. Many adults commented on them without me even talking to them saying they've never seen someone actually pull off sneakers + suit. Just gotta find the right shoes

What's unprofessional? You can't generalize that. I would look out of place if I'd wear a tie to work at all. We have an informal dresscode and everybody at the agency is dressed in jeans and hoodies unless we're at a client meeting. It really depends on your profession and your corporate culture. If your workplace is extremely conformist, you'd probably better reserve the eldredge for weddings, parties, award ceremonies and the like. Something with an upbeat mood where it's ok to stick out a bit. Normally, nobody will mind if you rock one of these, though.

The main concern with the eldredge is being able to tie it 100% correctly and to use the right shirt and tie combo to make it look good (monochrome tie with big colared shirt in contrast color, as in your pic). If you can pull that off, it will be a nice conversation starter. If you can't, you will look like a complete idiot. So if you want to wear this one, practice till you can tie it perfectly or stick to a windsor, pratt or whatever.

1428074959549.jpg -(619240B / 604.73KB, 1000x1094) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Easy answer, yes. Even if the setting/scenario is twisted to become subjective on the question of professionalism, it still looks silly.

The whole point of a tie is to frame the face. This fat knot does nothing for that and even detracts from the face while people are trying to figure out what the hell you are playing at. Also, it is a very fat knot meaning the proper proportions of the bottom part of the tie will be completely off.

The start of the bottom triangle (not the tip) is supposed to be in line with the start of your belt/top of trousers. This will be near impossible with such a ludicrous knot.

So it's not really a question of professionalism, more just the basics of the neck tie.

Regardless of the situation, there really are only a few knots that look good. My personal favorite is the four in hand. I would wear no other. But some like the windsor, which is fine I guess, but you loose my respect a little.

The four in hand matches the base requirement to frame the face, however has a little quirk with the slight unsymmetrical nature of the knot. Also, it must have a dimple and be slightly lifting off the shirt from the neck - you should be able to place your hand under the tie and the shirt. You dont need a collar bar for this on a well tied knot.

There is a reason the four in hand has persisted for so long. Suit fashion is pretty timeless within a certain boundaries (there have been some awful modifications in this space - think massive lapels or most Italian fashion). Most of America in the 20s looked towards the Duke of Windsor as the standard of fashion at the time. And this knot is a stable of the british upper classes.

Wearing that stupid knot just makes it look like you havent taken the time to understand the suit, its components and its purposes. Read Flusser's book on male fashion for a comprehensive guide and history.

It's actually just about as big as a windsor. Getting the length right is easy as well. The main problem is that the outer layer always fits kinda loose while the innermost sling can tighten extremely if you pull at the long end.
So if you want to choke somebody because he's wearing an eldredge, it shouldn't be hard to do. He's already wearing a garotte around his neck.

I like cargo pants. Maybe that's not super hip, but I carry around a lot of shit and the extra pockets are nice, and save me from having to bring a bag just because I want to travel around town with a few extra things.
My only problem is that I don't like how baggy they are.
I found a picture of what I'm looking for but I haven't been able to find them.
Dark Camo is preferred, but I'll also accept standard straight green, and brown.

seriously, it doesn't make sense to me. How do I dress well without resorting to basic brands or clothing that makes me look like a tool. Right now all I wear are like dickies shorts, band shirts and converse with some high white socks. The truth is I'm pining for my days being a carefree little punk but really I'm 25 and I need to know how to dress well at least for the appropriate occasion (ie social settings involving the occasional converse with women). I'm fine with women, I know how to take care of my body, I'm even trying to get some waves to make my hair all nice. I think I've got everything down but how to dress good. So, what do I do?

Get in shape.
Get a nice mature looking haircut/facial hair
Get some nice basic things like button up shirts. I like victorinox, I have a few nice charcoal/black basic colors etc...
Get some nice jeans, nothing fancy, levis are good, unless you are extremely skinny avoid skinny jeans
Get a decent pair of clean walking shoes, for going out at night
Smell good but don't over do it, don't over do anything. I prefer a minimalist but sophisticated style.
Most importantly, be yourself, try things on, be comfortable with what you look like.

^ are the type of clothes I where when going out, I also have lots of basic t-shirts and techno band t-shirts like autechre, aphex twin, tycho. I like to go hiking and wear vibrams, cargo shorts and some kind of shirt, I like clothes that are very practical for what your activity is. It's important to have sets of clothes for laying around the house, going out and the other sorts of activities you participate in.

> It's important to have sets of clothes

Pretty much it is this. Style is really subjective and say what I like you may find awful and vice versa, and it doesn't really matter as long as you own that shit. I think the unify factor between all well dressed guys is that they learnt that jeans and a t shirt has its place but isn't a 24/7 thing.
