My friend is taking heroic doses of armodafinil by Eliza Hanningbury - Sat, 10 Feb 2018 20:45:39 EST ID:IBmbY8JP No.284405 Ignore Report Quick Reply

On tuesday my friend, lets call him Ben got something like 300x 150mg tablets in the mail. He has been an alcoholic for quite a while and has abused some hard drugs in the past but it seemed that he was determined to get his life on track. I suggested he look into something called armodafinil as it helps with focus and wakefulness, and it helped me last year and I took it to help me complete various projects. Another friend, let's call him Jake, is brothers with Ben and was also involved with helping Ben and hopeful this drug would be the answer. We researched it together and discussed the risks. Made sure he understood to drink lots of water and to not take more than the recommended dose.

Well it's day 4 and 130 tablets are gone. We're pretty sure he's actually ingested that much, and perhaps tried to snort it as well. Yesterday I went over to his house and he was strung out like no other in the basement with his Jake who was sober and keeping watch, and he told me what was going on. He told me Ben tumbled down the stairs and threw up once and since then has been on the couch and when he tries to get up and walk he shakes and looks like he's going to fall over. Jake said he was just acting so weird, that he's never been like this before. He also said Ben hadn't been eating much- not just that day but for the last few days.

I went to see Ben and he was on the couch looking very uncomfortable. He was opening his mouth like to stretch his jaw and opening and closing his hand. Hypertension I'm guessing. There were a dozen or so empty water bottles beside him. I asked him how he's feeling and he said something like "good". I started asking him what he took. He didn't really mumble or slur his speech, but it sounded like he was tired and didn't feel like talking. his replies were short.

He said he had 4 tablets. I asked if he mixed it with anything else. He said no. I asked him when he took the tablet. He wouldn't respond at first. I kept asking. He said a few hours ago. This worried me even more as the effects of armodafinil don't peak until 5 hours. The worst had yet to come, I thought.

Ben tried to assure us he is a pro (referring to his past drug use). We know he has done a lot of hard drugs but Jake said he has never acted so weird on a drug before.

A couple minutes later Ben got up and wanted to have a cigarette. I tried to tell him not to smoke but he said he's ok.

He went back on the couch and maybe 10 minutes later he threw up on the floor. We got him a bucket and he threw up sporadically for the next 10 minutes. I was starting to feel very ill after this and decided to leave. I asked Jake to keep me updated on Ben and to give him a benadryl for nausea. An hour later he texted me saying he was stumbling worse when he walked and had to help him walk. Jake also said he gave him a benadryl. A little bit after that Jake texted me that he could hear him snoring, and that he was going to just let him sleep. I was quite concerned to just let him sleep, but I decided that he should be ok.

Several hours later Ben was still out of it, but seemed to be recovering. He was able to eat some, and walk better. Shortly after that his girlfriend picked him up, and seemed shocked by how Ben was acting. He totally wasn't himself. She said she was going to keep a close eye on him and get him to eat, and if he didn't seem to improve then she would take him to the ER. She updated us later saying he had some food and shortly after fell asleep on the couch.

Now, Jake found his stash of armodafinil and has hid it away. We are anxiously waiting for updates from his girlfriend.

I don't really know what to do. I'm worried Ben may have done some permanent damage. If he took 130 pills over the course of 4 days, that's about 32 pills a day or 4.8 grams. HOLY FUCK. I'm also worried this will come back to me getting blamed. After all I'm the one who suggested the shit.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I don't know how dangerous armodafinil is in large doses, but at normal doses it's a pretty tame chemical. If he's been binging on it recently he's probably not been sleeping well, if at all, which I'm guessing is a major reason for his odd behavior.

It is pretty tame, however I've had some uncomfortable stimulation from just a normal dose. I can't imagine taking 20x the recommended dose. That would be hell.

But shit, I feel like this is mostly my fault. I suggested this shit to him and apparently he's the type of person who wants to push the limits with new drugs he tries. I should have anticipated that. I really hope this doesn't cause long term brain damage for him. Makes me sick just thinking about what could happen down the road.

I could see the main problem coming from this would be liver damage. Armodafinil is metabolized into modafinil by liver enzyme action, so Ben may be incurring toxic hepatitis/cirrhosis if this continues. Best to get modafinil instead.

As for the modafinil it is metabolized into, it binds to the dopamine uptake site, so it acts as a weak yet selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor; at such a high dosage one could make assumptions as to what it would do. The following is theory.

At such a high level dopamine depletion and toxicity related to this could occur, causing damage in the basal ganglia: if Ben starts shaking after this episode he done goofed and gave himself Parkinsons. Also, at such a high level, the modafinil may have stopped working as a stimulant and created a anti-psychotic effect due to all of the dopamine reuptake.

Thanks for sharing. Fortunately he does not seem to be shaking any more. He's also recovered a lot more and is able to drive.

looks like he had brain damage to begin with or he's the most adventurous person you are likely to meet in which case i salute him, the revered one. It could also be that he hasn't a clue about the fact that drugs can have dramatic effects on our bodies and minds but that's probably unlikely, huh?

Alright guys, OP here. Have some updates. Ben says the most he's ever taken in a 24 hour period was 8. So 8x150mg so a little over a gram. Doesn't seem quite as bad as what we initially thought, but apparently it was enough to give him a seizure. He claims this seizure happened the day before I came over and he was throwing up and shit.

He's going to the hospital tomorrow to get some tests run on him. I will report what comes of these tests.

Hopefully there's no permanent damage.

Make sure to tell the cops/ER docs what he took so they can schedule it. People like your friend are the reason that we can't have nice things. Idiots don't deserve mail order drugs.

Nootropics are cancer? Really? How about, the ignorant retards who think that taking more of a nootropic substance will make it more effective, are cancer.

Update on my friend. He didn't go to the hospital after all. He refused and opted for an AA meeting. While he was away my friend Jake searched his stuff again and found a bottle of oxycodone. We're questioning almost everything he told us now. Maybe he never took the armodafinil and was just using it as a cover?

when you add drugs,
and particularily stimulants, which are "showy" drugs,
in that you notice the effects induced in those who consume easily,
into the situation odd behaviours are accentuated

eat shit and heal

Holy fuck you guys he found the stash jake hid. Ben says he consumed "the rest". thats like 200 fucking pills. His parents are taking Ben to the hospital. I don't know what to do. Jake is saying this is all our fault and I'm thinking he's probably right, but still, what could we have done? Ben said he learned his lesson. What the fuck are we supposed to do?

“Jake”’s an addict and a fuck-up, don’t lose sleep over it. Send him to rehab or cut him loose, nothing else is going to help. Your friend “Ben” is a dumbass for not just throwing those drugs out though, gotta say.

I once took 12 in a day but they were shit, and to be honest modafinil quality can vary a lot lately. Last batch I bought were basically caffeine.

Jake got back home a couple days ago. His family is working to get him into rehab ASAP. he seems to have recovered alright but obviously there's a good chance he will continue to abuse other drugs. He may also have more armodafinil stashed away, who knows.

It’s really not an abuseable drug, in the normal sense of the term. If he is using it to excess it speaks more to the nature of his addiction than anything else (automatic inclination to take anything to escape sobriety). Sounds like he’s in pretty deep...hope he’s able to get help.
