So I recently won some money, not too much and i have other things i need to spend it on but i was after some new tech for fun i'll have about £500 left over for drugs and toys.

Can anyone reccomend some budget projectors and maybe some decent budget headphones?

Also post your own wish lists so i can get some more ideas

For $30, Superlux HD668Bs are stupidly good semi-open headphones. Don't know much about projectors other than the cheap ones are garbage.

Does nobody have a wish list?
Might end up saving most of the money and waiting till i can get quite a lot of new tech cause i've got nothing but a 5 year old tv an even older laptop and a samsung s4 which just broke today.

If you can find a retailer that still have them, Creative Fatal1ty headphones... they are about the equivalent of £50-£60 in Denmark.
You can get them in 3.5 mm jack or USB versions... USB has a bit richer sound to it, but both are really good foro their price..

projectors are a different point entirely... If you want a good picture with a projector, you'll need to do some measurements for the room(s) you want it in first, if you don't want nasty surprises with them (unable to focus, stuff in the way, etc)...

I've seen a few companies and home users buy wrong projectors for their room setup, often with image quality problems. Mostly it's enough to move the unit back a few inches, however if you plan to mount it, make sure to do your measurements.

Regardless, doing projector calculations, will ensure you buy the right one for your setup, and that you get a clear picture..

here's a calculator: http://projectorcalculator.benq.com/

I bought a house recently and two rooms have no lighting and lack the wiring to quickly add a ceiling light. Because I own the Amazon echo I am wondering if there is a product that would
-be battery operated
-able to be attached (stuck to or screwed to) to the ceiling
-controlled (on/off/dim?) though amazon echo
-large & bright enough that it can be the main light in a 12 x 12 room

Any chance you know of this product? I have tried tons of different Google queries. Pic unrelated

It probably wouldn't be helpful if I suggested you should stay away from internet enabled lightbulbs because iot insecurity is going to be the next major internet crisis, right? No? Ok.

My best guess is that what you're looking for is one of those things that's just too niche to exist yet. If it did exist you'd be changing the battery all the time anyways, because even when it's "off" it would need to have the wireless running.

Just get a few floor lamps that take regular household bulbs.

And get the Phillips hue ones, they might be more expensive but they are the only ones that last enough to be somewhat economical.
If not at least stay away from Osram "lightify".

Do not put non-ceiling lamps on the ceiling if you like your house not being burned down.

Here is the problem. You want it battery operated, bright, AND stuck on the ceiling.

Those things don't all play nice together.

Do you have power to the room? If you do, setup some floor lamps with Philips Hue bulbs. The starter kit with two dimmable warm whites is like $70 now. And guess what? Fucking works with Amazon Echo like a breeze. Works off your cell phone too. Just plug the lamps in, turn them on, and then configure in the app. Wanna get funky? Upgrade to the color bulbs and you can build your own fucking disco.

Hello /tech/, I've came across some posts where some guy was able to pull all of the posts associated with a user's ID on a board and create a report showing all of them. He used Oracle Reports here's an example https://pastebin.com/sUxs61uP
Unfortunately i have no experience with oracle.

I was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas on how to use this myself or at least let me know how much effort would be required to set this up and create reports of my own, i need it for... reasons.

First you need to mirror the site either through scraping or the API. Then you need to ingest everything into a database. Rinse and repeat unless you just want a snapshot. Once you want a report, skip Oracle Reports because wtf are you doing with your life and proceed directly to knitr. If the report generation is the only part of this that you don't understand, it's stupidly easy. If not, good luck.

It's a valid concern. I beleve many of the sites have a q&a and asks, if roms are legal. Essentially they are for a backup for an arcade you own. I have had some.
But no not law enforcement but copyright laws 'could' apply. But essentially the
project was/is intended to archive the games, literally many of them would never have seen the light of day again if not for the project, not would people know some most of them actually ever existed. I assume you have played at least 5 of them in your life yourself?
JackFarringstat.ppd - Tue, 23 May 2017 20:48:20 EST ID:gTBX3jcf No.121030 Ignore Report Quick Reply
It doesn't really matter how big of a file it is, it matters if publishers are watching the torrent and whether your ISP cares. At worst (in the US) your isp participates in the 6 copyright strikes system, a publisher reports you, and you get your first strike. It would come with a warning letter or click-through warning from your ISP. Look up the "Copyright Alert System" to see how that works.

Theoretically a big Mame torrent would have roms from hundreds of companies in it. If any of those companies is super protective of their intellectual property, they could send a complaint to your ISP and give you that strike. For instance, Nintendo is protective of their ip. We can assume one of the roms in there is for Ice Climber.

In practice, I haven't heard of any individual catching a strike for roms though. I've only heard of big sites getting takedown requests. TL;DR maybe there's a slight risk of a strike, but the stakes are so low, who cares?
ShittingNuddledale.swp - Wed, 24 May 2017 18:50:20 EST ID:DP+SBgGU No.121034 Ignore Report Quick Reply
There are different roms. Mame are arcade game roms. Like Ms Pacman upright/cocktail cabinets. Nintendo did make mario bros, donkey kong etc.
There are rom dumps from chips. Nobody has made any legal action that I know of for dumpng these roms.

Ice climber is a console game. I assume even the newest console games and what have you
are being copied. Not sure what they do with cartridges, I assume they have chips as well. These are a bit more sketchy to deal with than old arcade games.

Pinball machines are still being produced, they can be emulated but the progress is slow and the emulation is generally just plain sloppy. But hose could be a target as well as newer console games. playstation comes to mind. I see no issues of people being targeted if people are not selling these, as in stuff with near identical packaging, or masss sharing of these newer media.

My opinion is mostly if you are sharing files, whatever they may be. At the highest speeds, whether one knows they are sactually uploading files or not. Especially 24/7, if one knowcks upload speeds down to day 2, 3 kbs. The stopps the upload as soon as they match the I don't think they would not bother messing with people much.

Say one group, has say three download servers that downloaded a new movie
is say 20 minutes, then another group of servers of the same corporation download the samemovies = others of the same media company, then in a few days later then I think they would be more interested in those, rather than a turtle slow 3 kbs upload that would take as many days to finish a download.

As in if one constantly shares movies, media at fast speeds then they are essentially giving away at least parts of media to maybe hundreds of people every ten minutes or whatever.

Sup, I have no idea about video cameras or camcorders and want some advice. Since Newegg and others yield these shitty results containing a thousand chinese imports with no reviews, I have no idea what to look for.

I need something to:

>720 or 1080 video
>Record up to 1hr continuous videos, or at a minimum of 20mins if I can't get this feature
>USB or Firewire compatible
>Priced around 150-200 USD
>Can record without being plugged in/new batteries for 1hr
>Rechargeable would be nice.
>Preferably have a high speed function capable of recording rapid motion mechanical shit and not be a complete blur. I doubt I'll find this in the price range but it would be very nice for demonstrations
>Be rugged enough to not break within a year of use
>If it matters, it doesn't have to take audio because I have external microphones to do that. I'm open to unconventional ideas such as security cameras if they take decent video.

So far I've found some really cheap "Zoom" cameras and Sony Handycams. After wading through a mile of shitty chinese no-name junk. Is there a website for finding cameras? Newegg has turned into alibaba it seems.

I always thought it worked as such: if you don't touch the keyboard or mouse after X minutes then you'll be seen as Away, period.

Someone else who owns a Mac (I don't know shit about them) tells me that 3rd party programs can keep both their Mac and Skype 'awake'. He actually got more specific, implying that if he were to receive Facebook messages for example, it would probably reset the timer and even pull him out of the 'Away' status on Skype making him appear as 'Online' again.

tl;dr Can things like receiving Facebook messages keep both your Mac awake and keep your Skype status online, even if you're not interacting with it?

PS: Yes, I'm trying to find if somebody's bullshitting and ignoring my ass.

If you up your budget by about 30 bucks you can get a ZTE Blade v8 Pro which has pretty good specs for the price.
Dual camera so you can take bokeh pics (if you're into that)
good processor,
3GB ram
8MP front camera
compatible with 5GHz wifi (AC)

I was gonna buy it, but alas ZTE locked the bootloader so there's no way to root, which is a deal breaker for me.

But if you don't care about that it's a damn good phone for the price.

Just want some feedback on this modular build I'm making. Everything initially being used will be upgraded eventually... But for now I'm not trying to go all out.
> B250 ASRock Fatal1ty Performance
> Pentium G4560 3.5 GHz
> Nvidia 1060

I didn't list the RAM because it's just fucking RAM. I'm not discrediting its importance, it's just not important for what I'm talking about today. Just assume I've got 2x16 sticks.

I also didn't list hard drives because I am drawing blanks on them so if anyone has some cheap but wonderful ideas, I'm all eyes and ears.

I'm not trying to play processor intensive games. Just some shit like EQ2 and then Ashes of Creation once I upgrade the CPU. Yes I know there are better CPUs but with the I-9 and the AMD Thread ripper coming out, I'll wait for that to come out before upgrading.

Not trying to spend more than 700 USD because I'd probably revamp my build at that point and probably end up spending more money than necessary for a rig to play ancient games.

It is still a waste of money. There are what 5-6 major components to a computer.

Why not just wait 6 months when you can buy everything outright and save at least half your money. Buying with the intention of upgrading is a waste. No matter how you slice it. Build something to last 3-4 years.

And 4k looks like shit too, about 2560×1440 is the zen between looking real and looking completely artificial. 4k just has way too much pixel density to look decent in my opinion.

Why not wait? How about because you don't want to? Sounds like a good reason to me. You can sell used but current parts on ebay for around 90% of what you paid. Also there's nothing wrong with how 4K looks. Saying 2K looks real and 4K looks artificial puts you squarely in full retard territory. I'm going to assume that bought a 2K screen, have buyer's remorse, and now need to defend that purchase. Maybe some day you will just learn to like what you have and not worry so much about what other people choose.

Nope I only have a 100 dollar sony tv for a monitor that is 720. I've gamed and watched shit on many different displays. Plasma still has the best image. 4k is too crisp to do anything but give a headache after a number of hours and "2k" is the best medium.

I bet you're American. You guys always get so hung up on the next biggest and best thing. There will come a point when the pixel density is just too much to look anything but artificial. Maybe people want to watch something that looks unreal. I don't. Real life doesn't look that clear, so why do I want to watch something that looks like I have eagle vision?

But whatever, call me an idiot, waste your money and live a life of debt until you die old and working. I'm still perfectly fine at 720p. Elitist.
