When the switch is turned on, AC electricity from the wall outlet is converted to DC through a transformer and bridge rectifier. The DC voltage causes current to flow through a light emitting diode and current limiting resistor, causing the diode to emit a soft blue light.

Just got a microchip in the mail and I'm trying to learn my way around.

Just trying to turn on a LED right now and it's not working. My pickit 2 reads/writes/verifies just fine. It just won't light up the LED no matter where I put it.

Here's my circuit and code. I don't know if it's user error or the chip is faulty.

How much chip can current output?

You may need a buffer to drive the LED but I'm not sure, I haven't read your chip's datasheets.

So read the dam datasheets.

oh and from looking at your code, I mean I don't really know how that particular chip works but I feel like it goes through ones and done. So it might actually be turning the LED on for a fraction of a second.

Try having an infinite loop on PORTB=1 or a latch of some sort, that might fix it.

Basically play around with it.

Eng I am so pissed off

I'm a first year engr student, and I'm not the best when I get into an exam room (study hard, but usually dont do amazing)

I am a devoted hobby chemist and I exceed at recreational substance manufacture. Sourcing restricted chemicals, getting in equipment and etc. MDMA,MDA,amphet, methamphet,GHB,alkyl nitrites.

If it's interesting I'm working towards it.

What annoys me is that I can never use this on a CV

I want to do chemgineering and work in pharmaceuticals.

Do pharma companies look for chemgineers in this area of interest?

Or will they just give me the look that 95% of society would

Maybe you should educate yourself, amphetamine has been an indispensable medication in everything from narcolespy to ADHD

I know the majority of pharmaceuticals are toxic or fatal when abused and that's assuming that they work (looking at you, antidepressants)

Everything we use in our world exists in an equilibrium between having no effect and being fatal. Everything the OP has outlined has many beneficial uses, when not abused.

That picture is fucking horrible I can't see shit, but it's probably just nylon fibers, you should be able to melt them off with your soldering iron. If it's not working at all you may have a short in your plug, or you didn't make a good connection with your solder. As basil said the audio quality is going to be noticeably diminished by the solder.

Oh wait I just saw your second puc and realized what you meant by splice, if you removed the coating and you're sure you have the wires contacting its probably a short in the plug, repaiting these will be more trouble than it's worth.

EE here, fixing headphone cables isn't difficult. You will need a multimeter to check and triple-check according to continuity, not according to color. You also need to solder, wire-twisting won't cut it. Also, insulate everything from everything as you go... heatshrink is your friend.

I'm pretty sure the white 'n fuzzy is just for wire strength or flexibility, it's definitely not a conductor. Do away with it.

I'm planning to build my own house one day, and I am most certainly not going to go the way of wood framing. I'm planning on either using concrete block or having poured concrete walls, and a metal roof, similar to how a small store or shopping strip is built. I would very much like to learn how these buildings are constructed. I have this book in the picture, and it is a very helpful resource for understanding the systems present in a wood frame house. If I could just find it's steel and concete counterpart...

Can anybody point me towards some good resources on this subject?

I'm not expecting any building to be 100% impermeable but it's nice to have such risks minimized, and in case of a fire, more of my house is left standing. I really don't want anything flammable inside of my house. I want the inside walls to be concrete, block or brick as well, like they were in this one school I went to as a child, where it was done really nicely and didn't make you feel like you were in a prison cell. If not that, then drywall on metal studs. I don't want any carpet at all, only polished concrete and tile. No curtains, only storm blinds on the outside of the house, since I live near the Gulf of Mexico and hurricanes are a concern. The only flammable things in the house are going to be furniture in each room and possibly the cabinets in the kitchen, so if a fire does occur, hopefully it will be contained to one room and not cause nearly as much damage as it could in a wood frame house.

My wife and I had always planned on building our house from a metal building, one that looks like a workshop, and concrete is the new idea we're exploring. We don't like wood frame houses. I know they can be good enough, but they're simply not as strong as other materials. I don't see any reason why not to buy a new mobile home, wind zone 3 and climate zone 3, and set it on a concrete slab rather than build a wood frame house.

You do realize mobile homes are built for transportation and use the lightest materials for the sake of not destroying the roads, right? Even when it's rated for those weather conditions, it's going to be built out of toothpicks. I'm talking 2x3 studs with hurricane straps and other flimsy bullshit. There's no way you're getting concrete walls from a fucking double wide. As for fire prevention, mobile homes are notorious for burning down in 30 minutes or less.

Yeah, that's a good idea for any pier and beam structure.

No kidding. What I am saying is that if I decided to build a wood frame house on my land, it would hardly be a step down to install a mobile home instead, and save myself a lot of time and expense. But that's not even what I made this thread for, so save your time.

The triwheel has a few good tricks unique to itself.
It absobs an impact by rotating, even though the Landmaster had no suspension the ride was smooth even at high speed over rough terrain, check the videos, they were really moving, but every time they hit a rock or hole the triplet just swings over.
It can climb by locking the wheels and running power to the triple wheel brace. Like that it moves like it has legs and will clear obstacles that would stop even a wheel that size.
If a tyre blows, you can just roll it over and lock the frame.
You can run the wheels AND triframe, and use it as a paddlewheel.

I hate to be that guy but I could really use any advice pertaining to the construction of bridges. We have a competition in my AP Physics class for the most efficient bridge made out of balsa wood and my gpa basically rests on this bridge, as it is the final. I was thinking of creating a warren truss with an arched top and horizontal planks for support of the roadbed, and was just wondering if anyone could give me a step in the right direction. Thanks in advance :)

look up the gothic arch, they're difficult to construct out of balsa, but if you make an effective jig to form it, they can be insanely strong.

I made a 2' tower out of balsa using 4 gothic arches, and it held 136lbs. it weighed less than an ounce.

Back in my day, all the fancy suspension style bridges made of balsa for this test failed miserably. It's a great design with heavy materials IRL, but doesn't scale well to a brittle wood. The design that held the most while still remaining light was basically a straight mimicry of cardboard, plain and simple.
