When using the ability of Dark Supplicant, can you sacrifice him as part of the casting cost, or will that stop his ability from resolving? Secondly, if I sacrifice a False Prophet for Supplicant's casting cost, will his "exile all creatures" ability trigger before or after Scion of Darkness comes into play?

When you sacrifice a creature to activate an ability, the ability goes on the stack before the creatures go to the graveyard.
So the Supplicant ability goes on the stack, then the Prophet goes to the graveyard and it's triggered ability goes on the stack on top of it. False Prophet's ability then activates first and exiles everything, then Dark Supplicant's ability resolves and lets you grab Scion.

So the Supplicant's ability can still resolve even if Supplicant is in the graveyard at the time of resolution?

Also, If I use Beacon of Destiny's ability on a Lightning Bolt that was targeting me, can I then sacrifice the Beacon for Dark Supplicant and still have the Beacon redirect that damage from the Bolt away from me?

>>28303
No. You can't redirect damage to something that's not there anymore.
>>28302
Yes. Abilities on the stack are independent of their source. Once an ability is activated or triggered and is on the stack, it doesn't matter what happens to the source permanent. The ability will still resolve. Sometimes, however, what the ability does is tied to the permanent so it may not function as intended. In the case of Beacon of Destiny, the ability still resolves, but Beacon is gone, so there is nothing to redirect the damage to.

the problem is that i can't find an item that creates eternal flames

I'm doing my second mini campaign and I have this haunted house I designed. It has a gimmick where going though a door doesn't take you to the next room but to a different room on the same floor. Its will always take you to the same room, but it doesn't work both ways.
So if a player walks through a door from room X and end up in room Y walking back through the door won't take them back to room X but to room Z. If they keep doing this they will end up back in room X after about 4 times. Otherwise they could just cycle though all the rooms quickly.
Doors will also always stay on the same floor so they must find stairs.
Windows work the same way.

Needing all parts is a good solution. My specific take is the amulet as a whole is a tetrahedron with the big warlock boss holding the main fourth piece. You need to either have all 4 pieces or have one piece and be blood brothers with whoever is holding the main piece. Blood brothers can be transitive so they can mix their blood with on of the henchmen and each other to work. But that henchmen must stay alive or else the link is broken.

I'm going to put several traps with lingering poison so when PCs blood pact they can get infected.

Also there will be at least 4 players so there won't be enough amulet to go around until they get the boss.

NPC gang is the human warlock boss, a tough and grumbly dragon born fighter/barb (the muscle) and two jeering human brothers who are bard/fighter and bard/sorcerer. Those two fight together often and will vicious mockery PCs as they struggle with the traps. They all kind of act and dress like mafia types so the amulets look like just some other bling amongst their other jewelry. The muscle will be the give away because it will be the only being he has, but he will wear some finer furs and leather.

They're going to need to make spot checks before you decide what they spot IMO.

Maybe give them a bonus if they've already spotted how garish the other guys are.

Also if your players are standard D&D players when they kill the barb they'll find the magic item with detect magic anyway so your well thought out visual clue will be wasted. Which is a shame, just expect to be disappointed when the players miss your well thought out clues and find the amulet using detect magic and identify.

Update with more room ideas:
first floor hallway warps into a quarter pipe that they must run up if they want to get to the doors. If they get to the far end doors and open it while clinging onto the threshold an NPC opens the door, viscous mocks them, then stomps on their face.
Second floor hallway shrinks or they grow as the walk forward until they are stuck. Walking backwards, any direction, just backpedaling, shrinks them until they are climbing amongst the carpet fibers. The trick is to take one step forward reverse, backpedal, repeat.
One room has man eating plants that act as ropers with poison.
Some other room has a simple revered gravity.
The shower room has showers where the faucets are reversed.
The patio gets you attacked by a kraken.
Kitchen is the hangout for the NPC henchmen.
The armory has living armor, plus some dope armor.
Oh and every room has a mimic somewhere. I'm gonna hand out scrolls like candy but there will always be a mimic next to it.

Suggestions/Ideas?

Idk im kinda drunk but here's an idea
The amulets have to be assembled ina certain order , otherwise they PCs trasnport tp a demoinc realm where the boss NPC gets his darrk magic from
There's a few demons or dark magic creatures around a big magma pit or something
ONce defeated the PCs find some scrolls describing the magic attrivutes of the amultes and myabe some other small clues about how to navigate the mansion, nothing too concrete, maybe notes from previous adventurers who got killed by the demons orr something
Idk, I just think the complexitywould get frustrating after awhile, maybe give the players some clues

Well the big boss is a warlock so he literally gets his power from a demonic realm, OP has probably figured out what his power source is, so the amulet would shift them to some corner of the hells/abyss or one of the other evil outer planes where some lesser minions of his patron may be milling around. There doesn't have to be a big magma pit, D&D has a whole bunch of infinitely big evil dimensions each with their own selection of terrains. If the NPC is a far realms warlock then it'd be some lovecraftian shit. Finding the remains of another party isn't a bad idea though.

All that said, this is going to go one of two ways. The PCs will accidentally blunder through all the right doors without solving the puzzles. Or they'll get caught on an insignificant detail and run in circles. He needs to account for this.

Sorry I'm just thinking how the campaign I'm playing goes. The best laid plans of mice and DMs and all that. Though it's made more fucky by the fact it's planescape with a party who were strangers at commencement and half of them still think the others are insane.

Good chapters from a prisoner point of view:
  • Sky cells(Tyrion, Game of Thrones)
  • Kings Landing dungeon (Ned Stark, Game of Thrones)
^Both chapters of the first book

Inspiration for level design and story:
-Azkaban(Harry Potter)
-Butcher bay(Chronicles of Riddick)
-Legacy of Kain probably has some good shit.
-And Demon/Dark Souls

If you want cyberpunk I can list like 20 more things

Cells are exactly big enough to fit the prisoners body with their legs straight and arms at their sides. They go in feet first with an opening above the head, either on their backs or standing up.

Also good old buried up to the neck should be good. Make the dirt magical if you want.

In D&D, do you fudge rolls as a DM? Why or why not?

I do not. D&D is a game of luck and skill that you can win or lose, and as such your success or failure should depend on those two things, not the fiat of some guy who wants to keep you alive so you can die at a more dramatic moment in his story, or who wants to have his boss survive longer so he can make a speech or get off his ultimate attack or some shit.

I think it depends on if you see the game as an exercise in creating challenges and letting the narrative create itself or in the collaborative story telling. For the former fudging is acceptable purely if you're misjudged something horrendously, though this is most common with a green/rusty DM early in the campaign and should still be pretty rare then. In the latter then fudging is expected in the name of encouraging cool and interesting actions.

Putting together a five color sliver deck, was trying to get lands that I could tap for any color and I had a cavern of souls laying around. I wanted to have four of them but to my surprise I found out that cavern of souls is like a 50 dollar card. Now I have other cards like shimmering Grotto or Transguild Promenade but they really just don't do as well in game as cavern of souls and I was wondering if there was a substitute someone knows of that could fill the role? I already have a bunch of multi colored gates I guess I could just double up on a few of them. I will post the list below for comments or what ever. All advice is welcome its just a casual deck I play with friends and we play legacy so everything's fare game thanks for any advice.

holdout settlement lets you tap it & a creature to add any color of mana to your mana pool.

unknown shores has the ability 1, T: add a mana of any color to your mana pool (this really sucks though)

crumbling vestige enters the battlefield tapped, but adds a mana of any color to your mana pool when it enters the battlefield. after that, it only gives you colorless mana though.

khans had an ETB tapped tri-land cycle. these are better than guildgates.

there's always teramorphic expanse/evolving wilds

these aren't as good as cavern of souls, but they are $50 cheaper.
