I want to play Go, but nobody to play with. I will play with anybody who wants to, who posts ITT. I'm in time zone EST/EDT in the US.

What are good sites to play Go? I know BGA has it: https://en.boardgamearena.com/#!gamepanel?game=classicgo

Hello Ellagan/tg/entlemen

I was curious about the elite few that actually lost here, so poll thread:

>What is the longest running campaign you've ever played in. How big was the group, how often did you meet?

>What is your most played Tabletop RPG

>What is your favorite Tabletop RPG and Why?

I haven't played D&D since 2010 (I've played a few versions of it, and it's certainly my most played tabletop game). I haven't played many others (Hero Quest, and some different card games), but I first started D&D when I was 5 or 6 with my brother, back in the mid 90's.

Not so much the longest running, but the most sessions had for one character was about 20, and that was because we were meeting every day, for about 8 hours every day. We were in the psych ward and the four of us just happened to make D&D jokes during Boromir's death scene in Fellowship of the Ring at the same time. Instantly we knew we had to have a hospital D&D group. We were playing D&D 3.5 The DM had a phone with all the books in .pdf format, we had one die of each type (one D4, one D6, etc, because the nurses wanted any outside items to be easily inventoried), which made rolling big hits a fucking chore, but we had assloads of paper and pens. We had to make grids on sheets of paper, paper character tokens, etc. It was the most underfunded game of D&D I've ever had but somehow was tons of fun.

We each tried to RP our characters to have whatever mental illness we did. We had our thief try to off himself in the inn we were staying at, and he also suffered from crippling anxiety, I had schizophrenic hallucinations (conversed with imaginary NPCs that the DM didn't tell me weren't real, among other things), the wizard had multiple personalities, which was interesting to deal with.

This isn't in a Q&A format, but it answers most of the questions.

>What is the longest running campaign you've ever played in. How big was the group, how often did you meet?

about a year in a half senior year of high school went over to a friends and his older brother was cool and was looking for people to play Pathfinder with and we were like sure and is the reason I didn't mind senior year so much.

>What is your most played Tabletop RPG

Pathfinder, but burned out by it now and want to explore other Tabletop RPG's

>What is your favorite Tabletop RPG and Why?

The Star Wars D20 one by Wizards so I guess you could say 3.5 since it's based off that system I believe

>When was the last time you gamed?

2014 for the Star Wars one throughout 2015 I was working at Walmart and had no time for anything eventually found a local restaurant for work and have more time now and don't want to kill myself before work now.

>What is the longest running campaign you've ever played in. How big was the group, how often did you meet?

I'm currently in my longest running campaign. We have 7 players, a single GM, we meet once a week, and we've been going for just shy of a year.

>What is your most played Tabletop RPG

4th edition if we're going by number of campaigns, but total hours in the chair, I'd have to say 3rd edition.

>What is your favorite Tabletop RPG and Why?

I'm rather attached to D&D 3.x. It's what I started with and I have something of a bias towards it built from familiarity.

Three years, three core players, three who weren't always there, done two of those, as a DM then as a PC.

>What is your most played Tabletop RPG

Something we called AD&D 2 but I didn't actually know the rules and just winged everything, as I was 12 and nobody else had an RPG book.

>What is your favorite Tabletop RPG and Why?

Depends. I love Lamentations of the Flame Princess. I love Into the Odd. I love Apocalypse World. I love World of Dungeons. And I fucking love Cyberpunk without tying a specific broken system to it. Not necessarily in that order.

So I've been getting into tabletop RPGs over the past year or so. 5e, a lot of the Palladium books at the behest of a friend. I picked up Call of Cthulhu recently. I've ALWAYS been interested in the World of Darkness Vampire setting, but for awhile I wasn't sure which version to get: Masquerade or Requiem. After weighing the pros and cons and studying both, I made the plunge and ordered an old Masquerade hardcover. Requiem's setting and characters didn't grab me as immediately as Masquerade's did.

Did I make a mistake? What's the general consensus on these systems? Which do you prefer? Which have you had the better experiences with?

They won't. White Wolf officially died, last month I think.

That being said, Vampire: the Masquerade was my first introduction to tabletop RPGs, and remains my favorite of all time. Good call, OP. Requiem wasn't bad, it certainly was much better balanced and had an interesting character generation system, but for class, style, and pure gothic beauty, you can't beat V:tM.

White Wolf hasn't been publishing it's TT material for a while. After the MMO folded the TT team took off and formed Onyx Path Publishing since WW's then owner, CCP Games, wasn't interested in producing WoD anymore. They have been bringing back oWoD in 20th anniversary editions and produced conversion documents for converting oWoD stuff to nWoD and vice versa. They are also in the process of producing second editions of the core nWoD games revolving around a central God Machine plot.

WoD is very much alive and kicking, and it's still the same group of people behind it.

I'd recommend making it a house rule that 7s count as successes along with with 8s, 9s, and 10s. the few WoD games I've played always petered out due to players getting discouraged from pretty much never rolling success from a large dice pool. I wouldn't go so far as the Exalted system where 10s count as doubles and 1s don't detract successes but that small addition of success on 7s makes the game so much more playable.

But damn Magnus Carlsen killed it. I think it's safe to say he's already cemented himself amongst the greats like Bobby Fischer and Gary Kasparov.

I play Chess. I love to play Chess. I sometimes play the electronic Chess against an online opponent but, it's just not the same. I like to play the real, physical game of Chess.

I like being able to sit across the table from someone. To have a good chat, maybe a few drinks, to bullshit with one another and just talk as we try to murder each other with strategy.

I was thinking of just taking a board to a restaurant or bar or park or whatever and just challenging passerby to a game or something. I literally cannot find people who would actually like to spend time to sit down and play a game so I figure I may as well cast the net as wide as possible. But I think I'd come across as a bit of a weirdo. I mean, would you stop to play a game of chess with a guy in a park who offers to share his thermos of coffee with you? (don't worry, I'll bring Styrofoam cups).

I miss the socialization of it all. Online Chess is ok, but I really miss having fun chatting with someone and watching their face as they try to think three moves ahead of me. You miss out on a part of the experience, as wel las the challenge, with online Chess, I feel.

That's it. sorry, just had to get this off my CHESST, I guess.

Power Creep in MTG by Jerrard of the Closed Fist - Mon, 28 Mar 2016 11:58:34 EST ID:3X5ht6DP No.27984 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

I have no interest in modern MTG because of power creep. I understand Hasbro wants my money, but no depth or meaning is added to the game anymore. The game doesn't get better by replacing last years +1/+1 artifact with a +2/+2 version this year. It looks as though ridiculous mythic rares like Jace the Faggot are printed only to pull the most money out of players.

The power creep devalues current collections, and discourages all but the most hardcore players from staying involved. By the Scourge expansion, power creep was already out of control. Changing the card borders and inventing Modern was a way to fix that, but instead they just made a more controlled and exacerbated version of it.

For a year or so now, I've been playing variations of familiar types in which all cards printed after 2003 (after Scourge) are banned, as well as the standard banlists. It's great to be able to justify using my older cards, but the biggest advantage is that I don't have to run on Hasbro's money creep treadmill anymore.

It all just reminds me of Ultima Online and the introduction of Age of Shadows, an expansion that doomed the game to a dying existence as a WoW power creep treadmill. Pic related. That's Jerrard of the Closed Dick, a 6/5 for 6 mana with no special abilities, completely useless by today's standards.

>Where do you think those shortcomings lie: with the brewers (it's possible to win with a brew, people just don't build them) or with the game (brews can't win because tier 1 decks are too powerful)? He gave a few examples of brews that seemed nearly kitchen-table-casual until they started winning. Of course, it takes all of a week from the first top 8 for the internet to figure out the optimal list, so it's easy to forget that.

I've never understood the sense of privilege that comes with "the brewer mindset". And I'm not talking about the people who brewed a deck like Kiki Chord, took it to numerous tournaments, grew a following and put the deck on the map. I'm talking about people who are offended that their bad cards and bad strategy can't win in an environment with good cards and good strategies. Where does this sense of privilege come from? It's like taking a golf cart to a NASCAR event and being upset that you lose.

There are legitimate, top tier brewers. Bogles was a brew. More recently, Nahiri Mardu was a brew. They don't magically stop being a brew because they're now tier2 or better. Hell, Death and Taxes was a brew and in the later half of 2014 was arguably the best deck in Legacy at the time (after the reign of Shardless BUG and Omnitell). DnT was created by a guy named Finn posting on MTGSalvation.

So I guess my point is that brewing is a real thing that happens, but players that can't assess cards and strategies and can't put up results are frustrated by the game due to their inability and then blame the format, and that's stupid.

Tendrils would make them gain the same amount of life as they lost since you are "them" when you cast it. Although you do get rid of their wincon. What I'd do is start flashbacking all the draw cards in the graveyard like gitaxian probe for some lifeloss until your hand is overstuffed and discard anything useful (assumong they already had a full hand). If the hand is empty I'd jsut do some useless casts and hope for the best. Mindslaver works best agaisnt contorl decks though. just cast the best card and waste all the counterspells on each other

I just watched a VICE documentary on MTG and my curiosity has been piqued. I kinda wanna buy a bulk amount of cards from kijiji but before I do that I want to learn more about the game.

Is there a good beginners forum, or a website that talk about the history of the decks/game and even some YouTube videos?

is it worth getting into this game or is it a dying sport?

If you have an iOS device, get the free magic app. I think it's called magic: duels.

Once you get the hang of the basics, something like forge or xmage could help too. they (for the vast majority of the time) enforce the rules on the card and are completely free to play, so it's like playing a game against an AI.

find your local game store (wizards has a store locator) and call them up and tell them you're a complete beginner and that you want to get into the game. they'll suggest the best time for you to show up to play and have someone show you the ropes. new cards are being released on the weekend of 14 january, and new players are very welcome to these "prerelease events".

on top of that, your local game store will have events every friday night and probably more on top of that.

I "got into" MTG maybe like 2 years ago, after enjoying Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh. I got some "sample deck" things that local game stores give away - ask about it when you go in! You should be two get 2 free 30-card decks, two colours of your choice. I got them thinking I'd play with my girlfriend. Turns out she has no interest in Magic.

I watched all of Walking the Planes and Spellslingers

Tolarian Community College is also a good resource.
https://www.youtube.com/user/tolariancommunity/videos
I also really like Alpha Investments, but that's a more niche thing and not even really about the player side of Magic. Other Magic youtube channels seem to be all the same, just some guy unedited rambling about competitive stuff. Not for me. There's a cool official podcast by the face of Magic, a cool guy named Mark Rosewater, called "Drive to Work" where he talks about... everything.
http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/media/podcasts

Here I am two years later, with maybe 300$ invested in Magic (several preconstructed decks and some accessories) and nobody to play with, and too scared to go to a local game store. Haven't been able to find anybody locally, through the internet. Sometimes I play against myself with my Duel Decks.
The rules are so clunky and outdated, but Wizards refuses to update them. The cards still freakin say 'deckmaster' for goodness' sake. The game could be more popular and improved, and people like my girlfriend could enjoy and play, but the design is 20 years old and barely updated or streamlined. It's too bad that it has to be sperg nerd thing. It could be as casually popular as 52 card decks.

  • IP Address: intcraft.online
  • Server Version: 1.8.8 (any client from 1.8, 1.9 or 1.10 can join the server.)
  • Chien's World Map cropped to Eurasia
  • Towny, Brewery, meme recipes, word filter and more..
RP and General Rules
Contrary to previous iterations we will now state the actual rules for the server in a clear way, pre-launch. In theory, as always, there is only one rule: Don’t be a shitter. If you follow this set of rules, you are thereby not a shitter and you are in theory allowed to do what you want on Intcraft, and it will be up to the server population and community to put an end to their own disputes.
Towny War Flag will only be enabled from Friday-Sunday, from Monday-Thursday it will be disabled. PvP will always be enabled.
First 24 hours after launch will have War Flag disabled
Roleplay
  1. Building a town/nation must be historically accurate for that location given the current time (300bc-300ad)
  2. Buildings do not have to be 100% accurate, variations are allowed. But no memes.
  3. Towns do not have to be exactly in the same geographical location as they were, but it should be in the same general area.
  4. If you only want to pvp, find a pvp server
  5. If you only want to buildfag, join a nation or get gud.
  6. Nations can spread through conquest or diplomacy, but no Atlantic Federation tier memes.

When using the ability of Dark Supplicant, can you sacrifice him as part of the casting cost, or will that stop his ability from resolving? Secondly, if I sacrifice a False Prophet for Supplicant's casting cost, will his "exile all creatures" ability trigger before or after Scion of Darkness comes into play?

When you sacrifice a creature to activate an ability, the ability goes on the stack before the creatures go to the graveyard.
So the Supplicant ability goes on the stack, then the Prophet goes to the graveyard and it's triggered ability goes on the stack on top of it. False Prophet's ability then activates first and exiles everything, then Dark Supplicant's ability resolves and lets you grab Scion.

So the Supplicant's ability can still resolve even if Supplicant is in the graveyard at the time of resolution?

Also, If I use Beacon of Destiny's ability on a Lightning Bolt that was targeting me, can I then sacrifice the Beacon for Dark Supplicant and still have the Beacon redirect that damage from the Bolt away from me?

No. You can't redirect damage to something that's not there anymore.
>>28302
Yes. Abilities on the stack are independent of their source. Once an ability is activated or triggered and is on the stack, it doesn't matter what happens to the source permanent. The ability will still resolve. Sometimes, however, what the ability does is tied to the permanent so it may not function as intended. In the case of Beacon of Destiny, the ability still resolves, but Beacon is gone, so there is nothing to redirect the damage to.
