Play with 3 forces of will, one up each sleeve
Claim you only have 1 and show him ur deck in happenstance astonishment occasionally
Be playing a combo deck and lose to everyone for about a dozen games
Find the dumbest stud you can and challenge him to ante

Chapter Master is a space marine chapter management game. Each marine can be customized and load outs changed. Vehicles and weapons can be produced. And trading between factions of the Imperium is possible.

The game is still in Alpha, but its already gained serious momentum and builds are coming out every other week. It Does have some bugs. So Save often.

I recently got very interested in MTG and I'd like to learn as much as fast as possible. I already know someone who I can play it with (at a tabletop store, there also is Friday Night Magic).

I bought Magic 2014 (2015 was not recomended) and already am learning a lot from that game.

Not that guy, but we don't get that much Belgian beer out in the USA. Belgian beer is amazingly good, but yet it's not very popular out here. We have a brand called Blue Moon that claims to be Belgian, but it's not. Other than that you have to go to a specialty store to get Belgian beer here. A few of our domestic brewers are making beers that are of a real Belgian quality as well, but it's all small potatoes.

I'm new to MtG and at first it seemed super confusing, but second day playing I beat the ass of the dude who taught me and have subsequently been doing so.

I'm starting off with a red goblins deck which seems a good starter, easy to stack a buncha gobs and do massive damage.

I wanna definitely do a black deck when I get the hang of the game more tho. Always was the kinda guy who played psychic and dark types in pokemon, so its my sorta thing.

What you need is a blue deck that focuses on artifact retrieval with your main cards being Krark-Clan Ironworks, Myr Retrievers, and Brainfreeze. There's a card from Mirrodin that is a blue creature, costs 1 blue 1 colorless, tap: produces 2 colorless that can only be spent on casting artifacts and artifact creatures. I usually would end up with one, two if I was lucky. Turn 3-4 is the quickest I've ended games with this build.

Hey guys I'm brainstorming ideas for an upcoming VTM game and figured I'd see what other people thought.
It's set in 1860s Wilmington NC, just before the American Civil War and I plan to run it through to 1865 after the war ends.
The players will be a newly shovelheaded pack of Sabbat created to aid in the capture of the currently Cam city, then prevent it from being retaken.
I've looked up IRL timeline stuff for the area and fairly close maps. I also looked up Cannon cWoD timelines to get as much background fluff as possible.

If you have any ideas let me know.

My gaming group doesn't have the focus to do a heavy politic style game yet, most of their experiences has been dungeon crawls in D&D/Pathfinder. I'm hoping this game will get them more interested in role play rather than simple power fantasies of one fight after another for no greater purpose than to level up and get better gear.
I figure the Sabbat is a good middle ground as it gives them lots of combat and they'll need to role play adopting a path on enlightenment or lose themselves to the beast. I hope it'll get their beaks wet for more character driven stuff in the future.

I don't generally like sabbat much, but in your situation I think it's a good fit. That will probably help transition your greenhorns from hack n slash to melodrama nicely.

I'd say one thing that may help you is make a list of old-timey era appropriate Names for you to apply to NPCs on the fly. Also, maybe look into some old business names or make some up. Just flavor suggestions really, you're already on the right track with looking up the geography and history of the place. Being able to pull random period appropriate names and places out of you hat will help further keep the setting feeling fully fleshed out.

I'm new to tabletop roleplay, always been a fan of it though. Love reading the stories posted here and other places. I finally got into a game over skype with my buddy and some other folks. The campaing we are playing now is very light hearted and meme filled, as dumb as it sounds its been pretty fun so far. The best part is every session we have a guy in photoshop making an image based on the events.

This seems to be a very slow board so I dont think anyone will mind me dumping these images along with a little recap of the adventures that inspired them.

I rolled a fighter, seemed like the simplest thing to do. My dude wore an eye patch so I became Big Boss to the group. Our Healer was named Suds, looked like Mr Clean only with soap bubbles on his head. We had a jedi and an elf who wasn't around, a rat who couldn't sneak very well and an NPC Dog that somehow is a wizard or some shit because its had to save us from death like ten times now.

We started out locked in the hull of a prisoner ship, inside a room with some Orcs smoking pot. They were playing Yu-gi-oh and one Orc beat the other. The losing orc was pissed off so I bluffed and pantomimed that the other orc cheated. They both draw weapons and are about to kill each other while the jedi is levitating the keys over to us and the rat is off sneaking about, alerting the rest of the ship and the first boss. Our healer jumps the gun and casts obscuring mist, causing the two orcs to stop fighting each other and instead they fucking stab him and go back to playing cards. The rat tries running back, gets thrown in a pot of water to be boiled. By the end of all the commotion we finally break free and fight the boss, who's arms are stuck out to his side like an airplane. His name was true terror and I cut his fucking arm/wing off.

Yeah you inspired me to make some posts here.

Session 2

We loot the corpses taking some javelins and gear, then let the rat lead the way as he sneaks ahead to scout shit out for us. He climbs up the last group of steps leading above deck. He gets caught again and squeaks loudly to let us know he's coming back with agro. As each orc walks down the steps we stay hidden behind them and cut their ankles out one at a time. By the end there was like 10 dead orcs all stacked up like cord-wood. We reach the deck and two orc shaman start casting spells. They cause dazzling rays of light to shine upon their leader, an orc bard dressed as Elvis with an electric guitar with a giant axe blade on one end and a microphone on the other. Our first round we focus most of our attacks on the orcs we can see. We realized we fucked up when an orc berserker drops from the crows nest down onto our healer. The battle is really going badly, a few of us are knocked out, our sneaky rats hand cross bow broke on a bad crit, our healer has like 2 hp left. Our rat then decides to ruin everything. This goofy fuck decides to throw a javelin into melee at the orc berseker to maybe draw his agro away from Suds. He refuses to take the aiming penalty so as not to kill our healer and of course he throws the fucker right into the healers back, killing him. Plot Dog manages to save us through a bit of DM fudging and we defeat Orc Elvis. I got to take the +1 great axe and still use it. My perform is pretty low though so I can't exactly play it. As we are wondering how we can get our party back to dry land and maybe back to the plot a fucking Kraken appears from a whirlpool, sucking suds's viking pyre up and trying to kill us too. We jump into a dinghy and we doggy paddle that shit to a nearby beach.

RIP in Pepperoni Suds...

I enjoy the distinction between generic and colorless finally.

Imo, it potentially restricts access to certain powerful colorless cards without simply requiring an exorbitant mana cost. For example, not any and every deck can potentially play powerful hypothetical colorless cards now, at least not without adding colorless mana producers as well.

Of course generic will still have it's place, but personally I think the "new" colorless concept has a lot of potential and I hope they keep including it in sets and becomes "normal" within the game.

yeah, i drafted oath for the first time today. the set is really designed well when it comes to rewarding you for "splashing" colorless. I had a WR deck. I could have gone WUR, but I went WR/colorless instead.

the colorless lands, even at common, are great at helping you deal with this.

Hey /tg/, so I was talking with some friends about what defines a set or a block based on themes within cards. We talked about the obvious things such as the storyline, characters, land, and creature types. One of my friends mentioned that the most defining themes come from the mechanics they create within each set, like how the set will have an overall theme and then they try to define that theme by building mechanics for cards that would seem sensible within that theme. For example in the time spiral block, almost all of the mechanics have to deal with manipulating time and such. Soon we were thinking about every set we played in and how the mechanics helped to define what was going on in each set's storyline.
After a while we just started coming up with really weird and interesting card mechanics that we would like to see on cards and then we would argue about whether they were balanced or how we could balance them.

I thought it might be interesting to see what /tg/ would prefer to see in card mechanics. So post your neat card mechanics.

I had an idea for one that was sort of based on "Split Second". I call it, "Resolution" and it basically is, "This spell always resolves first on the stack."
I thought it would be neat to have some spells an creatures that can have their abilities always resolve before anything would attempt to interrupt and/or stop them. Think that would be too broken?

yeah, it's pretty uncommon though. it's a lot more common for the game not to care that an opponent is targeting the creature. these cards combo well with the en-kor ability of "0: redirect 1 damage from ~ to target creature you control".

not all of them have good effects though. a good number of them bounce or have to be sacrificed if they are targeted. only a few of them do something interesting like gain toughness (like daru spiritualist).

I promise i will not leave it permanently sealed but you will think of the game differently if you commit it to heart.
Every mechanic has a clear renumeration or distribution of it's affects
And yet they always print some shit that doesn't even have an effect or some shit that needs other cards to have any effect.
And some bozos always nick that shit from wheeling pools.
So why not drink with the young when you can feel well hung
Because those cards are starting to become their vocabulary.
You can turn any noun into a verb, they've begun to realize a process in the proverb. Their theme is a distribution of well fit words, such as trick and bind. but never is there anything i would describe more as a bind than a trick, though the trick is that you view the bind as a trick, where the real trick is moves you make when you're tapped out, and that's why control mirrors do come down to skill over a generic "style", and that has to do with counting cards and playing 1 ofs and shuffling hamster style and using nonidentical lands and only shuffling once and KNOWING THE BEST CARDS IN THE FORMAT and streamlining the quicksliver and feinting them out and pulling on lands like you're thinking about it and NOT flicking your cards and distracting them aimlessly and all that good shit that good magic players told you they'd never do.
If you've played spellweaver, almost all the "instants" have split second unless they have an instant. But this also totally gives their hand away and is why autotimer games are ALWAYS seeded with bot matches and even if they weren't it's why you can tell when they don't have a card and thus get hidden information from the automatic lack of free will that they programmed into their fucking game. No man, the only true way to play magic online is cockatrice through woogerworks servers and that is because magic is a pointless game if you guys cannot agree on the rules and that right there is where most cheating occurs.
And the first rule, with online games, is that your opponent should be moving as fast as fucking possible so you know how sure of his move he is and therein, (the speed of play) is how you make cards into mechanics instead of QED'ing optimal moves from your pseudo-randomized batch of options. And why would you make mechanical motions if you weren't smooth like an operator.

slipstream- if your opponent can't read your cards from the table, flip them over for him
dripstream- if your opponent reads upside down, drop his deck next time you cut it, and scribble the shape it falls
tripstream- if your opponent is high, make a repeating noise that he can barely notice louder until he thinks he's hearing things
cripstream- bush the happy go lucky chump on his way out

It's a recent change to the rules to promote fun, interactive gameplay.
Cards like Condemn and Hinder were considered very good because you could tuck their commander into their 99 card deck, making it likely they will never see it again. Some commanders are very powerful and not being able to get rid of them permanently was a problem. However, making it easy to eliminate the commander made it less likely for people to build around their commander because their deck will be "dead in the water" without them. They decided to err on the side of fun and make this change so that if your deck needs your commander to function, you aren't immediately blown out by hinder and condemn.

Huh... Well although I understand them choosing the casual stance to make it more fun... However knowing those rules have changed in that way makes me want to redesign multiple of my EDH decks (I have twelve of them, I really enjoy EDH).
I kind of upset that they took away the commander being lost in the library rule. It was kind of fun and scary knowing cards like Condemn could swing the entire fight in one direction or another.

What I might end up doing is just setting this whole thing up with "House Rules". Like saying that the effect of the spells (whether beneficial or negative to the commander) are controlled by the caster. So Flicker form will work as it is supposed to as intended by the caster/controller, and the same would go for using Condemn, with the intention of the caster trying to get rid of the commander.
I'll just make that the ruling when I play with friends ( I play very casually so bending those rules will probably be okay with my friends).

I have a commander question.
So I have a commander deck that uses Mimeoplasm as the main commander, but I just recently got my hands on a copy of "Tasigur, the Golden Fang". So is this Legendary creature at all playable as a commander of my "Mimeoplasm" deck, or is it not possible because his color identity is solid black?
A friend of mine told me he thought that the ability being blue and green would make him applicable as a commander for all three colors, otherwise he would be completely unplayable as a commander in any commander deck.
I can see him still being a playable card in my Mimeoplasm deck, just obviously not as a commander.
Some clarification on this would be awesome. Thanks ahead of time.

Tasigur's color identity is black/blue/green, so you can have the mimeoplasm in a deck where tasigur is the commander.

A card's color identity is is defined by all mana symbols that appear in its casting cost AND rules text. Take a look at the new card General Tazri. She raised a lot of eyebrows for being a 5 color ally general, which is something people had wanted.

Yes, I went overboard but after the last few months it was completely necessary. This guy was a massive creeper, constantly started shit with other players, kept trying to insert his fetishes, stalking one of my players until she told him she was going to call the police....I never saw them again after that little outburst and even a couple people in the group told me I went a bit nuts but I don't care.

In all my years I have NEVER run into a person who hit almost all the marks for a stereotypical "That Guy". The only thing that was missing was being a fat neckbeard.

It actually wasn't bad in the beginning but it's not really the same game anymore. There were two other players who dropped out and the game went on hiatus for a while. We started it back up because it was a lot of fun in the beginning and the power gamer expressed interest in playing so we let him join and since then, it just hasn't been as fun.

DM a game yourself bro, give this new DM an idea of how an actual game is ran. EVEN with the LOLNOLOGIC they have to have some balance and rules so people like that shitty as gnome can't metagame and ruin the experience for everyone.

To be fair, that was me my first time DMing(3.5/completes). Less with combat and more with spells because I never really played a spell caster but I can tell some amazing stories and wanted to create an adventure. Luckily my group helped me.
