Resistance Jumps RDA by Charles Nickleridge - Wed, 11 Nov 2015 13:47:02 EST ID:z94RzBLD No.1056 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

So ive had my Velocity RDA clone for about a month now, and ive built over 10 coils for it already with over 5 types of wire. Now however, i find that after every 2-3 hits, the resistance would jump from say 0.11 ohms to like 0.18, and if i was vaping it at 55 watts then that jump would make it too harsh of a hit. Then after awhile it would drop back down to .10-.12 and then again around the .2 mark. WTF?

i have a dual parrellel with 24g G-plat and Nichrome 80, about 7 wraps around a 2.4mm installed atm.

Before this build i had a crazy build, one of my favorites, of a dual coil Staggered heating parrelell, made with 24g nichrome80 and a clapton made with 28g kanthal parrellel, and then 32gauge and .3 ribbon wrapped around that. That build was at a stable .09-.11 ohms for a week then started to jump around a fuckton so i built a simpler coil as above.

Tldr: Coil resistance jumping, Screws seem tight.

>one more note, my possitive post on the Velocity is abit loose, could that be it? and if so how to fix?

>my possitive post on the Velocity is abit loose, could that be it?

Yep, that's it. First thought was loose screw heads on the posts, the positive post being loose is it. Have you tried fixing it? Is it the screw that's loose or the actual post? I don't have a Velocity but from the pictures I see it looks like it's removable via the bottom? My Doge I can just unscrew the center pin and it comes out, and it has the insulators and then I can pop the positive post out. Check the insulators and make sure they're intact and not melted, that's not good to have center pin contact on the negative like that (hard short). Anyways... it looks like the positive post drops into a little slot and it doesn't spin, so... have you tried tightening the bottom center pin screw thing? Does that fix the looseness of it? Check to make sure you don't have stray bits of kanthal on the deck/in the posts that could be doing that.

by loose i meant it wiggled like 2mm in each direction. and i will try to do that screw thing onthe bottom, thanks for the tip. The velocity came with a spare insulator so i immagine its possible to tighten/take it off

update: it tightned about half a screw rotation and made my ohms go from .14 down to a .06 so i had to take a coil out lol

Make sure your screws are tightened
Check for hotspots on your coils
Tap your leads lightly before you fire a new coil, make sure they're stable
And definitely tighten the 510 pin at the base of your rda to ensure the center post isn't too loose.

It's normal to get a slight change in resistance when you fire because heat affects resistance but nothing more than maybe +/- 0.2 ohms.

So my friend gave me a iTaste MVP 2.0 battery for free plus so ejuice. I then bought a Kanger Aero Tank V2 tank to fit (11 watts, no subohm). I get it home and it read 3.6ohms of resistance from the coil in the tank. It still hit pretty ok. But then the Resistance jumpped to 4.0ohm.

I think it came with a faulty coil so I changed it out with another one that came with it and read 1.8, exactly what it should be for the stock coil. I tried it out and the amount of clouds it produced were amazing for the setup (5v on the 1.8ohm coil and the air flow turned up all the way).

So my questions are as followed.

Was it faulty coils that came in it?
Can my iTaste MVP handle going down to 1.2ohm coils at either 5v or 11w (max settings)?

Although when I was at the store I went to the vapor bar and tried some of their subohm RTAs, yea I am defiantly going to have to upgrade once I run out of this 12mg and 18mg juice.

Hey guys,

I ordered an evic-vt a few weeks ago and it came in last week, been using it for 8 or so days now. The stock nickel coil started tasting burnt so I chucked it and put in the stock ti one.

Had a bit of a question though, what should I be doing as far as the temperature/wattage goes?

I tried playing around with it a bit but I'm not exactly sure where my "sweet spot" is. Occasionally I'll hit it at one temp and it feels good and I get flavor, but then a few minutes later it doesn't taste as good as that same temp and it tastes a bit better 20-30 degrees down or up, but then there's not enough vapor / can't really feel it or it's too harsh.

What do you guys usually set your TC mods to for titanium coils? The nickle one felt perfect at 500F/30W but I can't find the spot that feels the same that i like on titanium.

Ugh, the point about temp control is partly that you don't necessarily have to prime your coils. If you've got the right setting you simply won't get much vapor.
Eventually the wick will saturate itself.

You don't want to set your temperature setting high and your power setting at whatever you used to vape at. You want to set your temperature between 400-480F and use the maximum watt that you can use. The eVic VT even automatically works in this fashion.
500F is most definitely too high.
My rule of thumb is:
400F for RDAs
420F for RTAs with good airflow like a TFV4
450F for restrictive RTAs like a original kayfun
480F for scorching hot hits that are probably bad for you
Nigger Moffingkane - Mon, 09 Nov 2015 21:47:10 EST ID:hgtdu3rV No.1023 Ignore Report Quick Reply

Are you sure about that? I've heard from a lot of people that the evic-vt runs cooler than other vapes and should be set a 50 or so degrees higher. 500 degrees on the nickel tasted fucking amazing and lasted me around a week of almost back to back chain-vaping. Titanium feels really lackluster at the same temperature, I had to bump it up to around 550 before I started getting a decent amount of taste. If I go down to 480 and bump up the wattage then there's almost no taste and no vapor.

Priming the coil head (even this slightly burnt one) before hitting it seems to taste much better. I've been playing around today with temperature from 500-560 and 550 definitely seems to hit the best with a ti coil on an evic-vt. It's a shame if it really does burn at that temperature.
Henry Blanningkig - Wed, 11 Nov 2015 12:24:21 EST ID:KVA69uD8 No.1052 Ignore Report Quick Reply
You might have an issue with the electrical contact, either at the coil or at the 510 connection. You can usually tell this is the case if the mod shows you significantly higher base resistance than the coil should normally have.
Another issue might be the wrong setting, vaping titanium coils in nickel mode will get you that, as is an issue with the firmware (be sure to use the latest version) or the wrong coefficient of resistance setting.

NI200/TI should not vary in terms of temperature settings if it's done right. The reason to use TI over NI is mainly that the material is easier to work with and it's easier to build dual coil builds.

>if the mod shows you significantly higher resistance than the coil should normally have

No, it doesn't, I'm not sure that's the case.

I'm vaping in the correct setting too.

>NI200/TI should not vary in terms of temperature settings if it's done right.

Are you absolutely sure? Sorry for being skeptical about this, but almost everyone I've met or talked to has said otherwise about the Ni/Ti on the eVic-VT, from people online to people in vape stores. Maybe the
>if it's done right
is key here. Maybe the eVic-VT doesn't do it "right," so you end up getting variation in temperature.

I'm not sure if it's placebo or not but it also feels like different flavors respond to different temperatures, and it depends on the battery level as well. I was hitting 540F with a minty flavor perfectly, but when I switched to a mojito flavor I had to drop it to 500F to get that same feeling.
Albert Buzzwill - Mon, 16 Nov 2015 15:01:54 EST ID:KVA69uD8 No.1119 Ignore Report Quick Reply
You should really get a build platform with included ohmmeter or at least a multimeter so you can be sure the connection is good.
To be honest I haven't used my eVic VT in titanium mode, but I neither read about a quirk as serious as this.

With temp control there is much less tolerance for bad connection. Are you using a rebuildable? Also keep in mind that titanium is never "pure" like ni200 which has a reproducible temperature coefficient your wire might not be the same wire the TI setting on the eVic VT expects.

Well I am pretty new to vaping myself (just started 5 days ago and successfully switched from cigs) so I can only offer limited advice and help.

VG/PG is the ratio of Vegetable Glycerol to Propylene Glycol. 100% PG has more throat hit with much less clouda. 100% VG has little throat hit with tons of clouds.

100% PG: Very strong throat hit, with clean flavors and not much vapor production.
80/20 (PG/VG): Still very little vapor production, and a moderately strong throat hit.
70/30 (PG/VG): A little more vapor, a little less throat hit.
60/40 (PG/VG): Decent vapor with a noticeable, but not to overwhelming throat hit.
50/50 (PG/VG): An even mix, with quality vapor clouds and a soft throat hit.
40/60 (PG/VG): Noticeably larger vapor clouds and a reduce throat hit.
30/70 (PG/VG): Good vapor production and a minimal throat hit.
20/80 (PG/VG): Excellent vapor production and a very small throat hit.
100% VG: Very little throat hit, with noticeably sweet flavor undertones and massive vapor production.

The brown LG 18650HG2 3.6V 3000mAh are awesome. 20A rating 30A max.
I use them all the time.
If you are vaping below 30w or so you can get away with the LG 18650MJ1 3.6V 3500mAh rated at 10A

The classics the Samsung INR18650-25R and Panasonic NCR18650B are also great and much more accessible in shops.

Never ever buy any 18650 from a "manufacturer" with -fire in it.s name. They are random surplus cells from rewrapped and sold with outrageous specs that are never met, and in the worst case your mod turns into a hot brick dripping with acid.

In a non unlikely near future we will be buying these cartridges, fog machine fluid and baking flavouring.

But then I doubt they meet in a smoked filled room and come up with: If we forbid mods and at the same time pitch our alternative that is made to suck we get to keep joe smoker puffing along and even get some extra cash when they try it out.

I think that's more like the product of a brain storming session with some office monkeys titled "How can we get a chunk out of this exciting new vaping market."
The political lobbing is more likely done by people who have nothing to do with product design.
