Because this game can give you endless emergent gameplay, I guess we can talk about what kind of crazy things our characters gets into in a thread of its own.

Just starting out a demon inspired character, with horns and pyrokinesis. I chose the nomad calling, which turns out is a Dune easter egg. I got a recycling suit and crysknife and all.

Other roguelikes, like DF's adventure mode and even good old Nethack, are welcome too.

It's not something I've played a ton of, but I'd say as something to introduce you to the basics of the genre without having to learn a ton of weird hotkeys etc it's a good place to start. That said I'm not really a roguelike connoisseur so I'm sure there are better options out there for free.

But yeah, in general I agree. Not a huge fan of constantly needing to go through my inventory to decide what to throw out, or like, getting a cool item and having to crunch the numbers to see if I should replace it a couple minutes later. There's a fine line.

I came across a snapjaw junkie. He was armed with like 8 different injectors and when I approached, instead of attacking he immediately shot up and tried to pretend he was invisible. Upon examining the corpse, it turned out he had even tied off using a force bracelet.

Made me think of this thread.

Hello, comrades. Developer here looking for a feedback regarding his game in development.
First things first: a trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr2_Ni42m-0
Now let me tell you about the game.
While the game is MMORTS at it's core sort of Civilization meets Age of Empires, we've tried to mix up all the genres together we were able to grab with our twisted hands.
On top of traditional 4X flavor we have added solid RPG elements. No, it's not just leveling up your hero and pretending he is some kind of King of whatever. I am talking about old-school RPG stuff like in Baldur's Gate, where there are non-linear quests and characters you can have non-linear conversations with. The conversations and available actions are based on stats and things you did before, i.e. characters may flirt with you if you show up naked and all that kinky stuff.
Aside strategy and RPG there are also numerous smaller bits like puzzles, a bit of crafting, adventuring, even hidden-object seeking your grandma loves to mess with.
I could go on and on about how awesome our game is (and honestly who would spend 5 years of precious life developing steaming pile of shit), but I would rather post some screenshots and wait for questions.
The game is currently in alpha, but we have just opened access, so outside players can try it out. Here is the link where you can grab it:
http://www.totemtribe.com/land/420/?rr=gginv4#content
beware - a lot of marketing (albeit truthful) bullshit there.
INB4 pay2win. There are no paywall in TT2 and we're doing our best to let players that don't pay to enjoy our game as well as donators.

so there's a lot of open exploration? Or it just has that cool aesthetic and spacestation overrun by an evil AI theme? this thread has me confused on whether it's a linear shooter or a System Shock/Metroid Prime deal.

It's somewhat linear?
There's a big open space station you're free to explore inside and out, but each section of the station is locked until the main quest takes you there.

The game is very open. >>700680 is partially correct but mostly he's a noob. You get into different sections that are big and open and have lots of little nooks and crannies to explore that the game will never otherwise take you to with objectives. You are limited to sections for the first bit of the game but it doesn't take long for you to get access pretty much everywhere. And once you are further in the game you can travel around really quickly using the main lift or by using the airlocks and flying to different sections directly through space. You can do some sequence breaking too that's pretty fun. For example:

You can get to the cargo bay early through the GUTS
Once you get main access you can go to the shuttle bay whenever you want it's one of the last areas the main quest sends you to
I believe you can even get into psychotronics way earlier than you're supposed to with some creative use of the foam crossbow gun.
I'm sure there's more sequence breaking you can do though, getting into the GUTS early lets you travel basically anywhere in the station if you can manage that.

Also the first gun you get is the glue gun, which shoots clumps of glue you can stand on. You can use this to make stairs and platforms and get into places you're not supposed to until way later or with really high skills (hacking or whatever). The game has a lot of room for creative use of weapons and skills.

The game mostly reminds me of System Shock in that it has similar system of advancement/skills (neuromods = cybermods) and a similar feel of ammo management and enemy strategy. You really try and figure out the best way to kill each kind of enemy so as to conserve as much resources as possible. They all have unique strengths and weaknesses too that are really fun to figure out and exploit.

I've decided the Nightmare enemy in this game is fucking retarded. On normal difficulty you can just walk up and unload a shotgun clip into it's face if you have the security weapon mods and have an upgraded shotgun. It dies in one clip.

On nightmare difficulty the Nightmare one shots you and would be such a massive waste of resources to kill its pointless. So instead you just have to run to a different zone, which it won't follow you to, and stand there for three minutes. A trick I've found that's kinda spoilery is the nightmare spawns based on how many typhon neuromods you use. So now I just save all my neuromods until I'm about to transition to a new zone, install all the mods I want, wait ten seconds for the nightmare to appear, then transition to the new zone. zzzz

I think if you're looking for testing data, having a deathmatch where you respawn might be the most useful too. Also easier to keep testers

So this thread triggered me, and I'm looking for some advice on a Skyrim experience I never quite got. I'm going for a darker fantasy where guile and preparation play a larger role than heroic machismo, with immersive realistic elements in gameplay mechanics. I'm thinking I might cut dragons and dragonborn shit right out because it's fucking gay.

Here's my list so far, anything missing, or any incompatibilities that I've missed?

>Undeath
>Gray Cowl of Nocturnal (+ retexture)
>Moonpath to Elsweyr
>Immersive College of Winterhold
>Agent of Righteous Might
>Vigilant of Stendarr Quests
>Helgen Reborn

Skooming Skyrim is fantastic. Fight against the Thalmor is pretty blandly implemented and I can't remember if it ever worked right for me.

>Gameplay section

Looks like you might have a few overlapping mods in the gameplay section. That might cause problems down the line. Multiple combat mods or multiple detection mods can not only have conflicts in terms of compatibility but also their features sometimes clash philosophically and you'll end up with weird balancing issues.

You're also going to want to get an alternate start mod to avoid the Dragonborn business.
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9557/?

>Immersion and Suvivalism

Looking good. Might want to look into some cloak mod and a few immersive armor packs. Backpack and modular bandolier mods are also really good.

I wonder about the 'master of disguise' mod and 'immersive detection' and if it's a problem then I'll get rid of disguises, since I'll probably play khajit and it will be preferable to go undetected/assassinate.

Cloaks are a good idea. I think I got the wearable armors in there :)

Those others are great ideas too; pausing is too convenient and breaks immersion more than I considered. I might go with 'cobbs encumbrance' since other carry weight mods can be buggy.

I recently visited a family member I hadn't seen in a while, and most of our time together was spent drinking and playing games like Bad News Baseball, Arch Rivals, NBA Jam, Caveman Games, and Mutant League Football. It was good to reconnect over games like these, and it was just a really fun time.

Do you guys have any other games like these you'd recommend? Just sorta goofy, pick up and play, competitive sports games? They don't have to be retro games like I listed here. Really I would love to play anything else in the same sort of vein.

I feel like mentioning GTA and saints row is kind of cheating tho, not really a soundtrack per se more just shit you hear on the radio and they can load up way more tunes than any regular game would have

Tripwire are fags and RO2 was always a crying fest by people who take the game far too seriously. In addition to shitty controls, graphics, mechanics and menu's. The game was always lame as fuck. They also released a complete mess that was broken for almost a year. Didn't give the Rising Storm DLC for free to preorder people like they promised and basically, fuck Tripwire.

I get that it is meant to be a realistic simulation and all but it is still a game. The maps were terrible, the gameplay was highly unbalanced and nobody utilized the squad commander/leader thing properly. It was literally just tedious.

I'm honestly surprised that it is still a thing. I guess people really took to it for some reason. Arma is was more fun and Battlefield Vietnam and BF BC2: Vietnam are still probably better than this expansion or DLC or whatever it is.

>GTAV is still the best game to grief in. Followed closely by Arma, L4D2 and Payday 2 in a slightly distant 3rd.

Just bailing out of a helicopter during a major heist in GTA V makes my day. Or racing a ton of people on a circuit and then stopping in the track and wrecking the leader when they lap you. Even pitting people in a serious race causing a 4-7 car pileup is awesome. What is even better when you have like 2-3 friends in a race lobby and you all work to crash everyone while betting a huge sum on one of your team mates who can easily win because you've killed all the competition. I've cried laughing so hard at some GTA trolling I've done and the ensuing rage following.

i think its a case of inconsistency between the art department and the programming department.

Kinda sounds like you just suck at the game and didn't play enough to come up with the actual flaws the game has.

This game is worse than BF:V and BC2:Vietnam? Haha okay. I guess they might just be for different crowds or something.

I get that RO controls aren't super responsive but I never have trouble like I see people bitching about. It's not supposed to feel like Battlefield, the UT mod of RO was literally designed to make the movement feel much slowier and clunkier, the way people move in most games is unrealisic and makes them these jittery targets changing their direction of movement constantly like a little dragonfly. Maybe I'm just used to the way RO handles since I've been playing forever but I have literally no trouble navigating the map with my character. If you press a button like reload and then immediately press another button it will cancel the reload. You can't do two things at once, that's just how the game plays. And half the time I see people bitching they did something avoidable.

>I get that it is meant to be a realistic simulation and all but it is still a game.

Yeah I think this game isn't for you. Arma is more fun? I mean I love arma but you really think Arma serves the same niche but better as Red Orchestra? Arma is one of the most desyncing janky games of all time but we put up with it for it's customization and scale. And purty graphics. It plays nothing like Red orchestra does.

I guess I sucked. I dunno. More like everyone playing sucked something fierce and none of the command system functioned because nobody in PC games uses voice chat or takes roles seriously. Having different ranks and all sounds great but usually, it just ends up being whoever loads in first gets to be the squad commander or whatever and they just goof off. They only take the role because they get a SMG rather than a shitty bolt action.

The controls suck because the collision meshes were terribly done. The character literally feels like a man in a velcro suit running through a carpet factory. I remember there being some weird delay mechanic where you can't turn around. You get that stupid morale thing where if a mortal hits on the map, you basically can't shoot for 2-3 minutes and I thought I remember you lost hearing. Sounds great until someone just charges in with an SMG all rambo and kills you because you can't hit anything. The animations are all pretty terrible, the gunplay is atrocious and many of the functions are slow and poorly thought out. I specifically remember grenades being literally useless except for on one of the maps where you just spam them into trenches. You couldn't throw them through windows, half the time it just wouldn't throw at all, other times it would just flop out like a limp cock and kill you etc.

I just remember it being like playing a retarded drooling elementary school dropout for a character. I can understand going for realism, but Tripwire seemed to have played the, "The customer say they want this! Let's drown them to death with it!" When really, the customer is wrong about 90% of the time. You have to be smart enough as a developer to understand that this tiny niche crowd yelling about everything won't sell your game or make it fun. They will just ruin it because they've never ran a game studio. RO1 was cool because it was a new and interesting concept that was made far better by the userbase. RO2 was just a shitpile for at least 2 years.

I could also never find the patience to manipulate the mouse sensitivity or figure out why looking up is lightening fast while turning side to side required 27" of mous…

I do agree RO2 was fucking shit on release. I am more partial to RO1 even after RO2 got fixed, but for quite a few years RO2 has been a solid game. The gunplay one of the best parts of red orchestra though and I don't remember that specific thing being shit.

I'm think Anti-matter games are the main people behind Rising Storm 2, I think tripwire is mainly just producing it.

The suppression mechanic is much better in RS2, it was definitely too strong in RO2.

>better writing and story
lol no. the writing is fucking atrocious. just a bunch of spoiled lazy kids complaining about life with occasional played out lovecraftian stuff as seen through the lense of tumblr. there's one or two tolerable characters though. the gameplay is mostly just walking around, but if you have to do anything else it's usually shit or at least poorly implemented.

but the visual style is really good and well done. it looks good in screenshots but even better in motion. if you're willing to play a game ONLY for visuals or art style, it might be worth it. especially if it goes on sale. I suppose this is why artists hire writers and programmers for comics and games.
