Anyone for Grim Dawn multiplayer? Started a new char a bit ago but could reroll or wait (hopefully im not building something useless; i like the occultist life steal spell a lot). I'd be down for efficient or laid-back gameplay not picky.

Never liked it as much as PoE but im trying it out again. Quit before cuz too ez but apparently you have to get to like new game+ or whatever? Also a lot seems to revolve around having pets later, which im not fond of... It's hard to say if those reviews reflect the quality of the game in general, the quality of the PC version in particular (supposedly there have been performance issues on PC), or anger at a game based around killing Nazis (really).

Places like circlejerk and the future have gotten really effective at organizing Steam review bombs lately, so Steam reviews of big new AAA games should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

Not a requirement, but I happened to play Dying Light in its entirety including the expansion on nightmare mode while drunk. I mean I would've done most things drunk anyway. When I got my system online and people started challenging me to uberzombie duels it threw of my groove a bit. Had to turn that shit off. Fuck that's a good game. Probably gonna reinstall it now.

I did a playthrough of Crysis: Warhead when I had just gotten into weed. That shit was pure magic. It's still one of my favorite games to this day, and one of the very few games where you can pull shit you normally only see in cutscenes. At one point you're fighting this big alien thing, large as a building, and when you get too close, it grabs you with some tentacles. It did that with me, after I had unloaded a grenade launcher into it. So I whipped out dual SMG's and unloaded in its ugly face. That killed it, so it drops me, and I run away from it because these things explode when they're killed. Then I realized I basically did a scene from an action movie. Good stuff.

Bad Company 2 was also the tits while high. The sound in that game was really good, and that came out very well. The first time I played that while smoking was like being pulled into a Vietnam movie.

LOTR games thread by Bolozof Velasgo - Wed, 22 Nov 2017 07:21:22 EST ID:O4ekUHnD No.710734 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

LOTR. The EA movie tie-in hack n' slash games were great, especially for movie tie-ins, but this was my favourite for being based on the book and it had a great atmosphere and style, and great music, although was sadly a mediocre game, a wasted opportunity, no doubt rushed out to meet a deadline (probably to ride the hype for The Two Towers film and compete with the game). It's selling-point was that it was based on the book, rather than the film, and it nails certain parts, like evading the Black Riders as Frodo using stealth, which is great, but lasts all of ten minutes. The Old Forest and Tom Bombadil are the main draw, a beloved chapter of the book, and the barrow downs, but bafflingly, although the game includes this, the rest of the game, and indeed the gameplay in these parts, is completely spare and linear, with no-brainer puzzles and fetch quests. Aside from Tom Bombadil, the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs, there's nothing else exclusively from the book in the film, aside from a few minor details.

The Lothlorien and Rivendell portions of the game are the most lacking, giving you the option to talk to characters and then move on, with no exploration or questing of any kind.

The combat however, is quite fun, especially using spells as Gandalf, but a couple of levels that require you to fight through hordes of Orcs and Trolls, are quickly diminished when you realise there's nothing stopping you from just running from one end of the level to the other without bothering with any of the enemies (there is no incentive to defeat all the enemies). The bosses are quite cool, especially the Balrog.

I like this game, but sadly the good things don't make up for what it lacks. I could play a whole stealth game about evading black riders in the Shire, but this seems unlikely. Weirdly, looking at the Xbox version of the game, it looks like a very different game, with slightly more content and improved mechanics, although even more bafflingly it removes portions of the PS2 and PC versions that were the best.

Only other LOTR game I played was The Third Age, which was fun.

It seemed a little strange fighting bears in the shire, but also hilarious. That quest where you have to rescue the two hobbits from the huge black bear by the tree as they're trying to get a wasp's nest down. Hilarious shit. That and for some reason The Old Forest is filled with bears and spiders (FOTR also filled it with spiders to make it more of a game). That's fine.

I must have missed that part of the book, when they enter the Old Forest and are immediately confronted with huge man-eating bears. I didn't get far at all, I was too busy having fun delivering post.

Call me a weeb and I'll fight you in the goddamn street.

Past that, what are some good games based on classic anime? I don't keep up with anime or anything (honestly don't care much to either, I'm not sure what the hell kind of googly eyed pedo shit you guys are watching these days) but I'm a big fan of Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Ghost in the Shell, etc. Stuff like that. Which all of those franchises have video games, but only one of them is actually any good.

I'm gonna start a play through of Fist of the North Star Musou but I'd like to have some good shit to play after that. Looking for games based on anime from around the 90s or earlier. Or even games inspired by old anime stuff. Anything else like SHOGO would be fucking awesome. Not particularly interested in JRPGs but hey, if they're good games I'll give anything a shot.

Any good Gundam, Macross, or hell, even Super Sentai gamesfuck you it may as well be anime would be especially appreciated.

When giving a choice do you prefer keeping npc enemies alive or slaughtering everything? by Nodunaga Oda - Sun, 19 Nov 2017 19:41:41 EST ID:dK78asoO No.710592 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

For the sake of role play I do try to stick to certain way if I'm going about things in a play through. Fallout 4 didn't give you very much choice but in the game even though no matter what your character will always be what they wrote the sole survivor as I was a total ass and sometimes just killed everyone in that one small town with the gate just because.

In stealth games like deus ex mankind divided and metal gear the game seems to lean towards more stealth pacifistic playstyles by rewarding you for not killing, I still just think driving Jensen spikes through enemies feels so satisfying. As is surviving a gun battle with a fortress of enemies in metal gear instead of sneaking around with the Tran q.

I am suprised that more games don't adopt this dual approach to games where it's up the to the player how they complete the game but I do feel it creates a trap where there is an obvious leaning towards one playstyle than the other. If you give us a choice then why do I feel punished for taking the more violent approach?

I have to admit you're right but OP has a point too. More generally though.

Why does one have to be outright better than the other? Some games manage to get it right. Go be a good all around guy and most people will appreciate it but you'll struggle to win the approval of some factions and end up in fights a shithead would have threatened his way out of or just been spared because he's useful. Or take one path get one set of rewards, take another and maybe it's not as good but it's a different experience and not just strictly worse. In several games you can often do a "Law abiding citizen" way or make friends with the bandits and do it their way and it changes which areas are safe and which are out of reach. I think that occurs a lot on space games though.

I don't think it matters in a lot of games, but if you want a role playing game with choice having trap choices sucks.

Mgs v was hardly a role playing game and true it's mostly a stealth based game so I get it. Sneaking around in that game was definitely more rewarded as well as just shooting guys with the Tranq. In a game like that it just gets old after awhile and I just want to snipe the guys off one by one before I rush in and brutally slice their throats as they search for me. It's just more fun.

Why? Probably because it does tame those testorone fueled urges to just see everything blow up. Just like a simple game like COD is fun for ten mins do jump in jump out murderfests. I want to see more games expiriment for sure.

Well, the thing with Dishonored is that the clue is in the title. The difference between the good and bad endings isn't the traditional "you failed". The bad ending is darker, but the outcome is essentially the same. You save the princess, put her back on the throne, and become her close personal advisor. Corvo isn't trying to win his innocence back, he's trying to win his *honor* back. Which was taken from him, because in the society he lives in it's an external thing that can be taken away. He failed in his duty of protecting the empress, which is the crux of his predicament.

This is why the results, in terms of honor, are similar in both paths. Both are justified by the social rules of the setting, and the choice is a personal one. I like the fact that it's not an easy choice, either. A Low Chaos playthrough is much harder, the resources required for it much scarcer, and the threshold to crossing into High Chaos is low.

However, High Chaos does offer more enemies, rats, etc. It adapts to the player taking the easy way by making the game slightly more difficult. But that's essentially the dichotomy between the two playstyles. One is harder than the other, and the rewards are purely moral. Which plays well into the theme of the game, because choosing to go for a pacifist run only affects the player's internal sense of honor in the end. Anyone who feels punished for playing High Chaos, does so because they consider what they did wrong. In terms of game mechanics, the only thing the game does is give you more enemies to slaughter. It's in the pacifist run that things are kept from you.

Normally I feel bad about being a dick in games, but this insight into Dishonored's culture makes it easy for me to accept a High Chaos run as acceptable in its world. I'm currently doing a High Chaos New Game+ run of Dishonored 2, and thusfar it's all been in tune with this reasoning. The enemies I kill are people who robbed me of my honour, and the guards I kill are traitors who have strayed from the path, and by doing so have lost their honor respective of me. I'm free to kill them. If they did not want to be killed, they ought to…
