It's either ps1 and all those greats like Crash, Rayman, Oddworld, and so many other great games of that generation
Or Xbox original when I really got into multiplayer and RPG gaming with awesome games like Halo 2 multiplayer and Fable and Morrowind. I think the ps1 really was a good introduction to gaming, but the games I played on the original xbox really shaped what I still play now even more.

It's from the Czech social security administration. It's still in use.

Before computers this was basically future-tech.
This volume of files would have required several huge rooms filled with rows of filing cabinets, and dozens of workers scurrying around with ladders, specialized in either retrieving, processing, or filing files.
Now a single processing worker just has to enter a file's number at their desk and the file is right there.

I played and replayed the beta for 8 hours now.

Lets get one thing out of the way:
Its not a tactical masterpiece and the firefights don't even come close to GRAW!

Singleplayer is a big pile of steaming shit, because of dumb AI!

But Coop is a blast!
having this huge (and I mean HUGE!) map and multiple approaches into camps while trying to stealth with buddies is a blast!

Difficulty spikes in the second area of the beta, where you get to fight more of the military forces and bases are way bigger with alarms and generators etc!

>trying to clear a huge-ass camp, still with some civilians inbetween because of slums running through
>waitng for nightfall
>shooting snipers off the towers from the distance while 2 of our guys infiltrate base

So I'm thinking of making a first and third person life sim and it's going to be pretty unique, or so I believe. I'm sure other developers or someone else has had this idea but I write today to see how you might feel about it.

The game takes place at a variety of schools and there will be a class system and a popularity system. Some things in the game will be off-limits at first to you depending on your avatar appearance and personality but if you befriend those in the areas off-limits to you who sympathize or don't treat you poorly, then you unlock that social tree, and if an event occurs where someone you couldn't talk to interacts with you because of being in an off-limits social tree turns out positively, the room to move faster in that social tree will increase depending on how many people you've made a memory with in positive connotation in that social bracket.

The uglier you are, the less chance at having popular friends you'll have, and chances are high that if you do unlock those who were originally out of reach - you won't be liked if you're a male and people might have it out for you depending on if you try to date or fuck the popular girls - but if you're a chick and you make it that far but aren't that ugly, you'll eventually get a bad reputation as a slut if you make the wrong choices or piss off the wrong guys or girls (even if your character is to remain a virgin.)

The more attractive you are as a male, the more women will keep their eyes on you, and males as well will watch out for you as well. If you're a mean but hot guy, rarely will any of the uppity cool people talk to you, and you might get jumped depending on how you treat people. You'll become a social outcast. Drugs and shitty parties with other outcasts and freaks of irregular kind. Miniature events will spawn from this that'll open up different routes. One route that has a bunch of opportunities to redeem yourself will open up and the more you fail those, the more cruel or lonely your avatar will become.

Virtually everything has a reaction to it and the world doesn't stop moving. Every day is a new day and while some opportunities are open forever till the creators of that opportunity move on or die, other opportunities are on short spans of life.

Outside of these seemingly trivial side events, the main event is a kid or group of kids that will change the face of that town and it's up to you to do something about it. While in a play through, only one 'happening' is allowed to exist at a time. Other happenings around the world will air on tv and how you interact with the character who if left alone is destined to do something malicious by his or herself or with others will determine the type of news seen on the TV which will serve as an indicator as to the status of the happening.

You can as a player do virtually anything. Joining the person destined to do malicious things with the intent of partaking in his or her activities can either end up in a jail sentence, a death sentence, or freedom with a new found friend. Stopping the 'happening' through force doesn't change much unless you befriend them or show them a better way. Chances are high they'll kill themselves or attempt to kill something or someone else if you don't do something about it.

You can even kill the one destined to commit the happening. But all that happens once the one is stopped or eliminated, is another one is created.

Because this game can give you endless emergent gameplay, I guess we can talk about what kind of crazy things our characters gets into in a thread of its own.

Just starting out a demon inspired character, with horns and pyrokinesis. I chose the nomad calling, which turns out is a Dune easter egg. I got a recycling suit and crysknife and all.

Other roguelikes, like DF's adventure mode and even good old Nethack, are welcome too.

UnReal World is pretty damn dope as well.

Nice to hear man. Glad you're liking it. I got really comfortable with the pure Esper character type. It is pretty OP once you make it to higher levels. Basically you dump points into Ego, which boosts your mutations as you level up, requiring no points to be put in to upgrading mutations. Therefor you can save up 4 points and buy a new mutation. I usually go with the Narcolepsy trait for the 4 extra points for buying mutations. And it's not much of a hinderance since you wake up if you're being attacked.

Right now I've been trying out the daily and weekly challenges to try and mix up how I play. My current character is strength focused with nightvision, double muscle, teleportation and psychosomething. Can't remember the name. The one that lets you identify artifacts and open security doors without keys.

I don't think you're referencing the new 1v1, but the limited duel mode they added this event is the tits. Most of my games I have played have been close, nerve-wracking and satisfying. It adds a fun mind game between you and yourself, and you and the opponent each match.

I know many of you here aren't RTS fans but I think this a real gem that is out in a late beta now and will be released in full in two weeks. It is made by Eugen Systems famous for the Wargame series, paired with Paradox, famous for their map painting autism simulators. The idea is to make a balanced RTS that sticks to historical accuracy, the battle happens on a larger scale than Company of Heroes, but features many similar mechanics such as cover, off map artillery, but it has no base building.

I have been playing this for a week now and it seems really solid. Solid as in the best real time strategy game I have played in a long fucking time. Any of you that are interested in this genre I highly recommend you check it out, if some are interested we could make a discord to play together.

The game itself is beautiful, and when released in full two weeks from now will feature 10 divisions from both sides, and is set from D Day to the liberation of Paris. The different divisions can meet whatever your play style is, for instance if you are a rusher there is the French 2nd Blindee Armored division, but if you are a late game pusher there is the 21st Panzer which brings in the King Tigers at the end.

In this pic you can see my P38 Lightnings shooting down a German anti tank plane, while I hit them with rockets and artillery on the front line. What you can't see in the screenshots are the various infantry units, labelled tanks, etc. that are all there but are too small to see from this perspective.

Am I the only one who just can't focus on what's happening in these games well enough to effectively fight? Maybe I just need practice, but I always find myself not know what to deploy or where or when. Typically this results in me only having like... 4 or 5 units on the field at a time.

There's a lot of new features since wargame. Fighting in towns is about house to house rather than abstracted sectors. The way vegetation works is way different. There's a suppression bar to reflect morale, units become ineffective if stressed like in Company of Heroes.

I think it's a good middle ground. If you are just in to dub dub 2 it's worth it on that aspect alone compared to all the terrible ww2 games out there, but it has great merit as a real time strategy game and feels really good compared to other releases that I am aware of. It's more about tactics and choosing the right forest or time to attack, rather than microing resource collection and min/maxing a strategy. Much more fluid compared to competitive RTS.

Try thinking of a collection of units as a small group. Try to make three smaller groups all of which have different aspects of the rock paper scissors game that is present in most RTS. For instance in this game break your army in to two or three smaller groups, each of which has some armor, infantry, AT, and recon.

That way rather than focusing on every single unit you can have everything you need nearby. Say you are fighting in an area and an enemy tank shows up- rather than saying "OK, I should buy AT now" try to already have some nearby, so instead of waiting for it to spawn and get to where you need, you can just have a unit move a few hundred metres rather than kilometers.

I try to think of it that way and it makes me feel more confident especially in multiplayer. I still get fucked up a fair amount, but especially in this game having a diverse force that is spread along the line is extremely important. You can't just spam helicopters like in wargame and expect to win, it is more finessed than that.

I'm not an RTS fan because I'm incredibly shit at making strategic decisions without a pause button.

Will this game in any way cater for my personal retardation?

you can slow down time in single player and theres an easy mode so the enemy deploys less efficiently.

its for military tactical nerds (self denigration) for sure. the battle plays out in phases and you have to be patient and also know when to go all in, ideally when you have armor or sky superiority.

i got bored of it in about 4 hours though.

still waiting for that sweet spot ww2 rts that is a mix of the realism of men of war 2 but also the grand scale and campaign narratives of the total war games.
