How many single-player games have you finished? by Toad - Thu, 16 Feb 2017 21:44:58 EST ID:pqsiipLg No.694578 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Could you write a list of all of the single-player games you have finished? Doesn't need 100% completion, just the "main story". What was the game that you had the toughest time to finish?

A really large amount not even sure how many. But I'm also old. I give up on games for a variety of reasons, if its buggy and broken or just impossibly difficult then I turn around and drop it. Sometimes if the lack of polish is strong that its hard to play.

Its not that I don't try and complete everything I play, but I also play a lot of games. I have full system catalogs for a lot of systems and emulation is one of the main ways I game. Then there's of course all those pc games pre 2007 that my toaster laptop will still run.

Probably my most hated ways of giving up on a game are because of a glitch or an area that's absurdly difficult. Like I can beat some really hard games but that dosen't mean I haven't met my match more than once. Its rare for me to give up on a game cause its janky or busted but this can happen for sure.

The idea of being able to beat every game you touch just doesn't always work out sometimes and I can accept that.

Anybody play/collect import games?

Any favs. you have/had/remember playing growing up or now?

I think one of the pluses of collecting imports is that you can buy a game for a lot less money then you would normally if it was NA.

Also you get a TON of exclusives.

You can get imports cheaper than the western releases.

The Mega Man X games ( even though the price is slowly creeping )

Snatch, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Saturn Bomberman etc.

It's one of the main reasons I sold off my SNES collection and went towards Japanese Saturn/N64/Dreamcast versions instead.

Got some wrestling games for n64, and sin and punishment. Also got the Japanese version of Mario Kart 64 cause it was cheaper.

Then I got some ds game from europe. That anime soccer one and a wario game.

I remember getting some dragon ball games for the SNES.

Old thread stopped bumping. My copy of Pokemon Moon is delayed till Friday so I picked up Metal Gear Rising again to practice for my Revengeance difficulty playthrough to kill the time. I wouldn't mind if they used a modified version of the combat system for Nier: Automata because it's so good. Platinum makes awesome games.

Ballistic weave is awesome
Being a clothing mod I always thought it would only give 20-30 extra shielding so I never bothered with it, but I'm on survival so I thought hey why not I could probably use that bit of extra damage reduction. Blew my mind when I saw that it does 110 in both ballistic and energy damage on the highest rank, gonna be a huge help, it doubled my regular armor rating and almost tripled my energy armor. I should have got it a long time ago, the jackpot mission to unlock it is easy as pie.
Not to mention I can throw away my vault suit and stop looking like a goddamn blueberry

Survival is going pretty well so far, had some trouble in the beginning but i've gained my footing, around level 20 it starts to become manageable as long as you've got the right perks.
Set up a water farm at nordhagen thats 999 water so I pretty much have infinite caps and have my main base at hangmans alley which is convenient. Picked the brotherhood to side with for the vertibirbs, makes getting around so much easier without feeling cheaty
I'm kind of worried right now though because i'm at the mission where you have to help put together Liberty Prime and I think the synths in that final act are going to be hell, Ill have to make some armor with really high energy absorption.

Hi friends what would you want in a 2d game, that was initially designed as a soft-core MOBA?

To be transparent: the most recent beta of Steam game Awesomenauts provides rudimentary map creation. IMO it will doomed to hacky implementation forever, but regardless can provide some decent retreat from 'normal towers > base' dynamic. Many central idea/creation limited until future additions but i should be able to make ctf (caution: waiting til stim re-up :) )

This is half-'self-promotion' -- half 'self-promotion" -- half 'plz halp' = 1.5x

if anyone plays this game any brainstorming :)

Recently started playing HL2 again
(goddamn awesome game!)
but I think I am missing blood-decals!

Especially when cutting a Zombie in half, there should be blood everywhere, or not?

Did I overlook a gore-filter in the options somewhere?

Is there any .ini-edit or mod that enhances the amount of blood-splatter and decals?

huh, I didn't catch this article when it came out last month.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2017/01/11/searching-for-half-life-3.aspx

this seems legit, GI wouldn't fabricate a story like this, but it isn't a very surprising read either. It just confirms a situation other people have suspected for years. the short version is that it's incredibly unlikely there will ever be a half life 3 and no concept of it ever got very far to begin with. or even for half life 2 episode 3.

Working at valve must be the most boring thing ever. You have to be incredibly talented just to get your foot in the door, but your creativity is wasted on doing basic IT work and occasionally getting to code the umpteenth new variant of a weapon in tf2. I'm sure the money is worth it but it must be a very cynical environment.

Friend of mine who read a book about Valve was telling me about the flat structure there, i.e. no managers just free floating teams of people who work on what they want. When they hired a load of hardware engineers for the Vive work a lot of them quit because they couldn't deal with the lack of boundaries/leadership.

If you have no one to tell you what to do why would you do anything boring or time consuming, but making a full title needs a lot of planning, coordination and budgeting, so it's not surprising to me that it doesn't get done.

I'll start with Black Knight Sword. Design wise, this is pretty much 16-bit action platformer. It doesn't really cater to modern gamers, in the sense that while it does add modern conveniences, it manages to stay true to the spirit of typical 16-bit games.

You have a lives system and if you use a continue option to restart a level you're on, you lose all of your upgrades. You can save at checkpoints, but all of your status is saved at that checkpoint too, including how many lives you have left. So if you have zero lives left at a checkpoint you've saved, I hope you get familiar enough with the game to complete a no death run of it, if you don't want to risk losing your precious upgrades.

It's difficult as shit, the levels and design are incredibly varied the deeper you get into it, the combat is satisfying as hell, and oh god those boss fights are just amazing, both visually and mechanically. Add on top of it all an art style that emulates a stage play, enemy designs that are a cross between fairy-tale book art and Dark Souls, and a soundtrack that's just as dark and fucked as you'd imagine, and this game is an instant classic, in my eyes.

Plus, coming from Grasshopper Manufacture, it's not afraid to get weird. When you're playing a legitimately amazing bullet hell shooter level riding atop the back of a giant chicken, or literally being raped by a particular enemy, you'll likely know that you'll never really see anything like this elsewhere.

tl;dr, it's an amazing, weird, difficult action platformer that you should try if you haven't. Plus it's cheap, going for 10 bucks on PSN and XBLA.

What other games do you guys have that you thought were amazing, but no one really played? The more obscure, the better. inb4 someone posts something from the Obscure series.

The Godfather of GTA "Leslie Benzies" is back! by Nathan Spencer - Fri, 27 Jan 2017 05:45:03 EST ID:PLSNN5vr No.693262 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply
File: 1485513903688.jpg -(120572B / 117.75KB, 1145x764) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. 120572
>‘Everywhere’ is the new project from GTA boss Leslie Benzies
Leslie Benzies — the former Rockstar North and Grand Theft Auto boss whose unceremonious departure from that company resulted in an ongoing lawsuit last year — is back in the news, but this time for his new project instead of his past projects. “Everywhere” is the working title for Benzies’ new game, a new video game built on Amazon’s Lumberyard
“The working title of this new game is ‘Everywhere’ and the vision is long term, with the capacity to develop and grow forever,” Benzies said in a press release. “Our goal is to create a platform where players can be entertained, and also entertain others while blurring the lines between reality, and a simulated world.”
Benzies was credited as director of Grand Theft Auto Online, the ambitious (and hugely lucrative!) online component of Grand Theft Auto 5. “The Houser brothers had little interest in GTA Online, and did not focus on its development,” Benzies claimed in the lawsuit. That focus on game as service appears to be in play with Everywhere.

This kind of platform-scale ambition is seemingly enabled through the studios use of Lumberyard, Amazon’s “AAA game engine deeply integrated with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including Amazon GameLift and Twitch.” That quote is from the very first paragraph of the press release, highlighting the importance the new studio is placing on its technology choice.

“Amazon’s technologies and cloud services provide us the power and flexibility to create a new type of game that was never before possible for today’s massive gaming communities,” Benzies says. “Lumberyard’s client and cloud features free us up to focus on the innovative, creative elements of our game.”

Joining Benzies on this project are Matthew Smith and Colin Entwistle. All three are former employees of Edinburgh-based Rockstar North, having worked on projects together from Red Dead Redemption to L.A. Noire and ultimately Grand Theft Auto 5 and the separately billed Grand Theft Auto Online.

I'm taking that as a "yes."

Jesus, do you need some cream for that butthurt?
Seriously though, I don't think you've ever driven a car, especially if you think video game driving is ever realistic. And no one uses video games to practice driving, that's completely retarded, brush.

Wouldn't have to have 420 in the title for the more subtle-minded folks.

The Steam group has always been kindof dead. There used to be a lot of specific game 420chan groups. Anyone remember the Alien Swarm one? lol

Halo 3, let's play with eachother by Wangmann - Wed, 22 Feb 2017 03:58:12 EST ID:6GDlaLs5 No.694926 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Come play Halo 3.

The game has about 300 people online right now and most of them are in social slayer making the rest of the playlists near unplayable. It sucks because there is no ranking system in the social playlists and that system is what made this game so great, being placed in games with people of similar skill level to you. A few years back this dude on YouTube got a bunch of people to get on Halo 3 on a certain day and it was pretty successful but ever since then nothing has been done that I know of. I thought I'd make a thread to get some people back into the game and to get some gamertag sharing going, it's a lot easier to play if you have people to invite. Maybe we can even organize some custom games in this thread it really depends upon how many people are willing to come play, we can do Reach sometime too.

Xbox 360 Halo networking thread and general Halo thread. My gtag is Wangmann and I'll be on this weekend hopefully.

There is no competitive league bitch nigga, the game doesn't even have a ranked mode. You can find your approx. MMR on third party sites that track your wins and losses, but that's it.

The game is still in development. It blatantly says it's in Beta and that ranked matches will be available in the future.

I can't wait for ranked matches. My intangible rank is definitely above the vast majority of players I get stuck with.

The game has a solid community, though. Yeah, there's a few faggots, but the game is extremely strict, and faggots don't get much quarter. And I'll tell you why that is.
  1. The game forces you to complete matches. You cannot leave matches without massive penalty. You cannot even leave the character select screen without penalties; I was banned for 5 minutes the first time I left a character select and I was told the ban would only get longer the more drafts I leave.
  2. The game is constantly asking you for feedback. For instance, when you opt to surrender, which you can only do 20 minutes into a match, you're given a survey to fill out as to why you want to surrender. And you're able to give feedback about your team. If one of your teammates is shitty, you can give him a poor rating, which I have no doubt effects them significantly because this game doesn't fuck around. If someone throws a match, the whole team will give them a toxic review which would definitely put them on thin-ice. You can't fuck around in this game.
  3. There's also positive reviews you can give players. There's just so much incentive in this game to be a team-player and to be a good person, because otherwise you face hefty penalties. You'd think it would be a bad thing that you can't leave character select or the match and that you can't surrender until 20 minutes in, but actually 99% of the time that's not a problem and it forces people to play properly and with good sportsmanship.

When I play good, which I do as long as I'm not zonked, your team treats you pretty well for it, and you, them. Like when you're winning and killing enemy heroes, you see a lot of 'Good job!'s thrown around, and a lot of over-all comradery.

I remember my biggest problem with original DOTA was when I would play, my teammates would just cuss at me constantly.
"DON'T PICK THAT HERO. DON'T! WHAT THE FUCK!? GG GG GG GG GG LOL!"
"DON'T GET NEAR ME! YOU'RE JUST LEECHING MY EXP!"
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Plus it's a third-person action game. My biggest beef with DOTA and LOL is that it's a point-and-click game. I fucking hate having to ADHD my mouse all over the place and I hate having to click where my heroes travel to.

Paragon locks you into your hero and makes you see from their POV. It's so much easier to move gracefully in Paragon than DOTA or LoL, and you do see a lot of graceful movements, like enemy heroes both in a brawl but they're literally just inches out of each others' range, dipping in and out of it to land a blow here and there. And ranged heroes have to aim, so they're not just OP wailing on melee heroes flawlessly and constantly.

No one ever believes me when I tell them this, but I was legitimately an early contributor to the development of MOBAs. I made the first ever "tower defense" map on AoE II before The Conquerors expansion even came out. The idea was completely original and mine. This was before WC3. I was also the first to make a tower defense map in AoM, and also made multiple "RPG" maps where the characters can level up and unlock gear. I was quite an innovative young RTS mapper in my time. I have zero proof but that's my claim.
