What was the saltiest you ever got by a videogame? Did you ever break shit?

I once yelled and slapped the pc table at a lan house a few times during a counter strike match because my younger brother was wiping the floor with me on the game in front of my friends.

I believe it just changes the final boss dialogue before and after the battle. That video reveals a lot about the plot that isn't given to you without looking for it, so if you haven't beaten it yet maybe do that first. (that video implies the sidequest for the true history and the limiter removal are separate, but I thought they were directly related, so I'm not sure)

In madden, you can tell when the cpu starts cheesing which is the funny thing. Passes that should not be completed gets completed (I know some QBs get a ratings boost in the 2 min warning time but fuck outta here when you thread the fucking needle between 3 defenders and get a 30 yard gain because the break tackle stat is now 99) the short yard back is now bursting out 10-15 yard gains, shedding tackles like the defense was made of cheese and your defense turns into a sack of wet noodles who go down from a short burst of wind and your offense turns into a virtual version of the Cleveland Browns which throws that shouldnt even be defended gets picked off and your running back with the 98 hands suddenly fumbling the ball like it has leprosy.

Its fun to come back and beat the cheese. Yes I am angry.

Post hidden gems and shit in this thread.

I just got this game Megaton Rainfall on steam where you're a god that protects earth from ayy lmaos and you can destroy entire cities, walk on the surface of the sun, travel through the universe and all that dank power fantasy shit. The game feels a little lacky and tech demo-i, and because of that it got less than stellar reviews and seems to have been forgotten, but I think it's really fun and a great game to play while on drugs.

I think sometimes special and entertaining games don't get the love they deserve because they get 7/10 or 6/10 on review websites, which scares people from buying them. God, I hate when review websites give numerical scores to works of art, it's so fucking retarded. You can't represent the quality of art with a fucking number, but anyway, I guess I got off topic. Post hidden gems or whatever.

I feel like I’ll more than likely come off like I’m some jaded old fart for this post, but I keep thinking about it every day, so I came here to drop this steaming turd on y’all. I can’t help but laugh at the current state of gaming. It’s like shit has come to a complete standstill, and while there are for sure still good games out/games on the horizon that set new standards, I feel like the only thing anyone gives a fuck about is the next MOBA/MOBA FPS or PUBG/Fortnite clone. Don’t get me wrong, I like playing some of the aforementioned games every now and again, but I can’t help but long for the next breakthrough tech that’ll bring newer interesting things to the table for better single player experiences, too. It’s good to see things like GTAV continue to grow after so many years because Rockstar actually seem to give a fuck about their IP, but I can’t help but feel like every one of these PUBG/MOBA/MOBA FPS type games are just gonna run their course and then fail until they’re replaced by whatever new thing comes along. And I feel like that process is just going to continue over and over for years. I was looking back at the 90’s and how crazy 98 was in particular, with so many classics being released at the time. I guess I just want to know what happened to the fire, the originality. It seems largely lost, and the current culture of gaming totally seems to reward endless clones of whatever’s biggest. Idk just shitting in the air with this post I guess~

You're just complaining about game cycles. This is a phenomenon that repeats itself until a genre is perfected. The same thing happened when everquest became successful. MMO became the genre of the day. Eventually blizzard cornered the market and competition for MMO games petered out. We got archeage, ESO, and runescape out of it. The same thing happened with medal of honor and call of duty. We got counterstrike and Halo, Battlefield, Rainbow Six, and some people still like COD, I guess.

The success of one title leads to a battle for who can do the genre best, and ultimately refines the game mechanics so that we can enjoy the best titles of the genre. If you skip the dross, you can get at the nuggets without feeling burnt out. I've never played fortnite or PUBG. But some day they'll refine the genre, and maybe I'll play the best version of those games.

You know what the best selling game of that mystical golden year 1998 where every "best game of all time" was released all at once? Was it Ocarina of Time? Metal Gear Solid? Resident Evil 2? No, it was Tekken 3, the next street/virtua fighter clone, a multiplayer game with barebones single player content riding the latest trend in a tired but trendy genre until it ran its course and was replaced by the next one.

This is literally always how the most successful video games have come about, and even in the year of Tekken 3 we still got about a dozen 10/10 AAA story focused single player experiences.

I'm legitimately confused. Are you guys confusing SMB2 with SMB2USA?
I'm saying Lost Levels' difficulty progression starts off from the end of SMB1, so by the time you're at world D you're essentially playing SMB world 21, so it should be pretty balls hard.

>I'm legitimately confused. Are you guys confusing SMB2 with SMB2USA?
Must... try... not to engage...

OK. Consider this. It's much better to think of the two as SMB2 and SMB2JP. SMB2 was the game released to literally every other country in the world. SMB2JP was not released outside of Japan until later, mostly because it's not very much fun.

SMB2 was such a success outside of Japan that it was released in Japan as Su-pa- Mario USA, where it was also successful, mostly because it's a lot of fun.

If you're confused about which game should be called SMB2, allow me to direct you to this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros._2

And if, after all this, you insist on referring to it as SMB2USA (and not even SMUSA), you're just a fucking weeaboo faggot, and not even God can help you.

This seems like you have some dumb axe to grind. I genuinely don't care and it genuinely doesn't matter outside of some retarded pre-existing "debate" that you want to import here. If this were any other game and not one where arguing about the title is a meme there would be no issue here.

What's strange is that this was a point of confusion considering this conversation happened in a thread under an OP/box art that establishes what we were fucking talking about.

Fucking nerds, man.

You guys are ass clowns sometimes, that's what I like about you! This place can be a disease but it's never really a giant circle jerk or anything. With that said, I just wanted to know if anybody is hyped for the new GoW. I just think the argument around the game is kind of interesting. A lot of people think the studio is taking a huge risk by changing GoW while others say it isn't a risk it's homogenization. "God of Us" and what not. Personally I don't buy redeemed Krato's but a lot of people are really into this.

So when I first realized they were juxtaposing Kratos to the Norse world I thought that was kinda lame. But then when I heard about how well executed this game seems to be and actually thought about all the badass places you can go and badass gods and demigods and different races and creatures to kill in Norse mythology, they totally made the right choice. I really wish I could play this game rn but even if I have to wait forever for a price drop it will still be an awesome experience.

It's retarded how so many things in the game are never explained. If you are playing campaign mode it might be part of the story and only possible to delay it, but I never play campaign so idk.

Try clicking on the construction buildings and setting the option that isn't sweat shop.

Make sure there is decent housing/markets near the construction buildings so they don't have to travel across town.

Make sure your construction offices have garages nearby so the employees can get home. Make sure the houses have garages nearby to get to work. I think the garage needs a visible line of sight from people exiting a building, but I'm not sure. I just spam them everywhere. Garages are by far the dumbest thing in the game.

You might also try making sure your teamsters are transporting things on time or that might make construction take forever and/or piss the workers off.

>even executed some at random
Not sure if joking, but I think that only works if you execute the faction leaders and it only delays revolutions and pisses them off in the long run. Bribing works better

It could also be that construction workers are just the hardest to please and that you need to improve your town happiness overall.

And I'd say it's possible to be a benevolent dictator but the game mechanics either aren't really designed for that or just don't work very well. Trying to be good and make everyone happy is way more inefficient than it should be and you'll end up with a weak nation because of it.

Close the borders. Don't build a college. Hire all the college specialists from out of the country. Make sure you have enough police, and prison camps where you can make the dissidents work for the good of the country. You'll end up with very few rebels if you deal with demands in order of severity. As a capitalist nation, I was able to appease everyone by doing this. The workers never went on strike because they were never well educated.

I don't know if Yume Nikki is that obscure anymore. I think it's one of the most popular games made with RPG Maker.

>>717827
Okay that is a pretty obscure game. It's also pretty interesting in a very similar way to Yume Nikki.

I've played many games that I made and never gave to anybody else. Here's a video of me (pic related) playing a 3D Bejeweled clone that I made back in 2009: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBUqIr2XBt8

Similarly in college I made lots of videogames. Here's a 3D "Final Fantasy Tactics-like" game that I did for my final project with a group of 4 others:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY9MzkN_KrQ

Also on my Youtube channel is a 3D rail shooter game ("Irruption"), a top-down 2D procedurally-generated dungeon crawler game for the Gameboy Advance that I made in a week, and a simple 2D platformer side-scroller game that I also made in one week for the Gameboy Color.

I don't really count games that I made (or "had to" make in college) any more than I would count film school projects as obscure movies that cinephiles haven't seen yet.

I bought a Pandoras Box arcade emulator a few weeks ago. Most of the ROMs are in Chinese and there's a few really fucking esoteric looking Chinese/Korean games that there's not much information on online.

Hard and soft counters by Michael Thorton - Thu, 19 Apr 2018 18:45:08 EST ID:0z+RVgZ0 No.717832 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

I'm going crazy over here. For years I was "taught" that soft counters were for casual games and hard counters were for hardcore games... But I watched a video in which neo-arena shooters, Lawbreakers (RIP), UT 2014, Reflex and Quake Champions were compared to Overwatch and now I realise - no - soft counters are for hardcore games and hard counters are for casual games.

Hard counters are simply a matter of learning paper beats rock, rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper.
Meanwhile, soft counters require the same paper-rock-scissors logic, but also situational awareness and environmental awareness.
Suddenly all the pieces fall together. The C&C games always felt so much trickier to me than Starcraft... doesn't matter if you have an army of anti-air rocket dudes, a swarm of helicopters can still fuck you up. Meanwhile in Starcraft, if you counter something - whammo. It ends there. No more thought required. The gameplay has reached a dead end.

Have I just gone full on crazy or am I right my dudes?

Are you asking if you can have hard counters in a strategically deep hardcore game? No, you're not but yes, you can.

That's probably why I still play counterstrike after all these years. Like, there are no hard counters. You could have a hallway fkn locked down with your awp, and still get shot in the head by somebody with a deagle because he was paying attention to the map and knows where you are. Everything is soft counter, you're not guaranteed anything because you came prepared. Some people don't like that but that's why they're casual.

At the end of the day, hard and soft counters should be an intentional piece of what game design you're trying to achieve. Starcraft has both a hard-counter and soft-counter philosophy in which certain units will defeat certain other units in one-on-one combat - especially with the heavily rock-paper-scissors unit rules (such as certain units not being able to attack air units). While you can win with high-level strategy alone, careful grouping of units and diligent micro will allow you to out-farm and out-micro your opponents in battle, allowing the countering aspect to be much more soft.

Games like the Pokemon turn-based games have similar hard-and-soft mechanics with the Pokemon's type systems granting inherent strengths and weaknesses to other types, but also allowing Pokemon to have multiple different types for themselves and letting them learn TM's and HM's allows for flexibility outside of their predefined type pools.

Also there isn't really a good, agreed-upon definition of what makes a "hardcore game" and what makes a "casual game". You could split the distinctions on a number of factors including:
  • Game length (longer games vs. shorter games)
  • Game difficulty for a beginner (less newbie-friendly and more newbie-friendly)
  • Competitiveness of the community (more competitive vs. less competitive)
  • Intellectual challenge of the game (more puzzling/thoughtful vs. more straightforward)
  • "Physical" challenge of the game (games requiring more dexterity/speed vs slower, less accuracy-demanding turn-based games)
  • Broadness/specificness of audience appeal (games targeting a wide audience vs. games targeting a niche audience)
  • Games requiring specific knowledge/skills from their players (trivia games requiring trivia knowledge in a specific area, math games requiring math skills, etc.)
  • Games requiring repetitive actions to advance (grindy games vs. "handed to you" games)
  • Games requiring/incentivizing special peripherals to play (dance pads, flight sticks, special controllers, etc.)
  • Replayable games vs. one-shot games
  • Games with differing reward experiences (arcadey/action games vs. cinematic/narrative games)

In the meantime I informed myself, lmao. Yeah I'd think that soft counters are more for hardcore games, because anyone can learn that X counters Y and that wouldn't be very competitive.

I feel the opposite way. Then again, 1 was the one I played as a kid. I played 2 for the first time maybe a year ago and thought it was horrible

Assassin creed games are fucking dumb. The whole idea is idiotic, gameplay is horrible. I honestly have no idea how this series became so popular.

Graphics and fun gameplay. I think they should have stopped after the first one though. Honestly I didn't enjoy any of them, well, of the first two, which are the ones that I played.

I hate games where they pump out the next game of a series every year or two. It's so fucking bad. Like, what's the deal with companies being purely for profit these days. They keep churning out the same games over and over again and it's just disgusting.

The trick with annualized series is discerning the meaningful updates from the cash grabs.

They made Assassin's Creed 1, then Assassin's Creed 2, then Assassin's Creed 2 another three times, then Black Flag, then Black Flag again, then Assassin's Creed 2 again some more. Now they seem to have decided that The Witcher 3 is the best gameplay model, so I gather they'll run that into the ground for the next five years.
