  1. Multiplayer Competitive RTS that require a deep understanding of optimal resource allocation and fluid decision making according to the situation. e.g. sc2

2. city or empire management and building simulations like Dorf Fortress or Europa Universalis

3. Puzzle games

4. Fighting games

The easiest games are grindy RPGs.

I went to the game store once and this clerk tried to get me to buy Overwatch. He was really enthusiastic about it and thought the 60 bucks was totally worth it. I thought about it for a second and said I wasn't interested. He looked so forlorn and disappointed. Like I want to play some repetitive crap with no story against a bunch of whiny 12 year olds. I ended up getting Terraria which also sucks but it was only like 5$.

Whether you're trudging your way through the swamps of The Valley of Defilement, or slaying the shit out of beasts in the streets of Yharnam, let's talk Soulsborne shit. Gameplay experiences, lore - anything, really.

Personally, I think Demon's Souls is currently my favorite. But that likely could be because it's the last one I've played. I loved the shit out of Bloodborne and think it's mechanically a lot more refined, and that it simply feels better to play, but there's something to be said for Demon's depressive as fuck atmosphere and sheer impenetrableness. Not to mention it being the first of its kind. I honestly can't imagine how fresh this game must have felt back when it was new, if you were one of the people to "break through" to it and got over the fact that the game didn't want you to play it like you were an idiot.

I'm willing to admit that mechanically it's objectively been improved upon, but solely in terms of presentation, soundtrack, and even set pieces, I have a hard time imagining that this game will ever be topped for me, personally.

That said I still have the entirety of the Dark Souls series ahead of me, and while I certainly expect Dark Souls 1 to be a better game than Demon's, in the same way that I think Bloodborne is technically a better game than Demon's, I think I'm going to miss just how dark and wholly unforgiving that world actually was.

Lmao no.

Carrying a 90% or 80% shield makes absolutely no difference when you've got a stockpile of gems.

DS2 has a slight delay for the shield to actually start blocking compared to DS1. You can probably get used to it but it is way less effective in a tight situation. Especially if you go straight from 1 to 2.
Helped me become a better player as blocking simply wasn't an effective crutch anymore

Lmao yes. In order to use gems, you've still got to stop blocking, press the action key, and wait for the animation to play out hoping you timed it just perfectly so that you don't get hit. It's also a gradual restoration of health, so you've still got to be careful.

I didn't like lifegems, but the people who point to them as some example of where Dark Souls 2 went wrong are retarded.

Idk if you know this, but maximum estus flasks in DS1 = 20. You understand? TWENTY. 20. In DS2? Twelve. So yeah, they seemingly added an optional health restorative item to compensate for the decreased amount of overpowered estus flasks you could acquire in the previous game. It's a fair trade off IMO.

I like this game in concept, but it just isn't fun in real world conditions.

The first time I ever played rust I got REALLY lucky and was in a fairly friendly area, people didn't shoot me on sight and one guy actually gave me a bow and showed me how to build a house. Some shit went down and I died and lost it all, but it appeared at the time that was unusual. Then the next time I played I got pretty lucky again, managed to build a noob 3X3 and even came up with the idea of an airlock on my own. I had a pretty good time gathering supplies and trying to make the immediate are a better place for other players. Build a bridge over a river and such.

Everything after that has been a shit-show, everyone is just KILL ON SIGHT. You can't accomplish anything meaningful without being part of a group. I mean you build up a small stone house and get offline raided overnight so whats even the point?

I guess my question is who is this game intended for? People with literally no life that can play 16+ hours a day with a clan?

It's just so strange, it sounds like a fun game where you would forge alliances with other loaners to attack larger groups or form a large group to be safe from other loaners. In practice its just KILL ON SITE EVEN WHEN THEY HAVE NOTHING! I dunno, not my kind of game I guess but I just don't get it? Who is this game for? Just psychopaths?

Are there similar games where I can have some fun like the first few times I played and got lucky? Where I was able to build a bridge to help others and make the world better instead of just trying to kill everyone for no reason? A game where I can put in an hour or two a day, have a chat with a stranger who I pass by. Maybe he attacks me, maybe he doesn't have an AK47 and wants my rock?

I guess I like to building stuff part more then the killing.

I have a ton of hours in rust, I don't play it much nowadays because I liked the old blueprint system a lot better. If you are solo play on solo/duo/trio community servers. If you want you can play on modded servers that have higher gather rates and other things that make playing a lot easier.

Rust has never been popular to stream and didn't use to have much presence on youtube. The game is 4 years old.

Episode 3 is never going to be made, HL3 is inevitable.

But yeah, you're not wrong. He put the overview of Ep. 3 on his blog because it was dead as fuck and the fact that Valve let him do it really speaks volumes.

>At a presentation for upcoming Dota 2-themed card game Artifact at Valve's offices in Bellevue, Washington today, Gabe Newell reiterated that Valve is getting back into developing new games beyond its current roster of multiplayer titles. After talking about Valve's focus on Steam and hardware during the past several years, which he described as "an investment in the future", Newell said "Artifact is the first of several games that are going to be coming from us. So that's sort of good news. Hooray! Valve's going to start shipping games again."

Also memes aside, they really were prototyping HL3. The shit in the Ep. 3 blogpost exists, a bunch of "leaked" (I mean you've gotta give it to their marketing team at least) folders came out and I'll spare you guys the boring details about how we know they were worked on recently and not just something from a decade ago, but it was all in there.

His synopsis talks about a ship that phases in and out of reality and we found a function that was designed to do pretty much that. It ended up being used in L4D but was created well before L4D, ergo Ep. 3 was in very, very early development at one point, was canned for some reason, they salvaged what they could and slapped it into other projects.

You can actually play - and I'm using play loosely here - the abandoned prototypes they put together, some guys compiled it into a mod pack. If anybody actually cares I'll go dig up the relevant shit, it's been like 2 years so I'm just going off of memory.

HL games are only released at some extremely important moment in videogame tech.

HL1 came out when the tech to make fully 3D immersive experiences was out there.
HL2 came out when the tech to make believable character interactions combined with voice acting was doable, in conjunction with home computers strong enough to do pretty advanced physics simulation.

HL3 will probably come out when VR really reaches some critical point of success. Or perhaps some next level game space simulation - like some Dwarf Fortress level of detail with dynamic object and terrain destruction. Something big. Valve has always been the storyteller variant of ID. ID figures out how to show you X. Valve figures out how to tell you a story about X.

Love the Splatoon 2 is getting a big ass single player update. I barely touched the multiplayer. Also cool that Captain Toad is getting a port, that was a great puzzle game that sailed under a lot of radars. Was not expecting a Crash Trilogy port, but that is awesome. Not the first time Crash has been on a Nintendo system, but still. Definitely triple dipping on Hyrule Warriors, and gonna pick up Octopath Traveler, Kirby, and Smash, and maybe Mario Tennis.

DUSK is fucking fantastic. The levels are so deliberately crafted that I never feel like I'm wasting my time exploring and looking at shit. My roommate and I spent a good few minutes just seeing what all we could pick up and jam down the toilet in one of the farm houses. Motherfucker swallowed up two rolls of toilet paper, a book, a bar of soap, and a human skull. Sick.

Only complaint is that levels can feel a bit empty sometimes but that won't be an issue when the mod tools drop so I aint fretting

DUSK is great. buy DUSK.

They are. It's a shame they started off with two different Mortal Kombat characters though. Hopefully they finally get it now.

They're adding new gear with the update but I got a feeling premiere skins are done and are likely moving onto the next Mortal Kombat game. I was hoping they'd change things around but I feel they're sticking to the MK>DC>MK>DC cycle until the end of time.

I flipped my monitor for shmups, and then decided to see how playing other games would work out, what would you guys recommend trying at this meme aspect ratio?

Something splitscreen.

Look what sort of bullshit happens when you try splitscreen one a "normal" monitor! You get two comically stretched, widened viewing areas. With a rotated screen, you'd get two practically perfect normal, classic squarry spaces.

It would hardly be neccessary to do that with an adequate space, such as, in particular, OP's table. Yeah ... nice table for this kinda stuff indeed. Also, some sort of split keyboard would facilitate it even more.

I just got out of the hospital with a spontaneous collapsed lung. I need some games to sink some time into while I recover for a week or two. A family member bought me a copy of Resident Evil VII, and it's alright. Not blowing me away or anything though.

I'd like a good RPG. Already played all the Souls games, Skyrim, and Dragon's Dogma. Anything else you'd recommend? Doesn't have to be RPG. Just anything that can act as a good time sink.

No PC, just PS4, PS3 and a Wii.
