Replaying Splinter Cell Chaos Theory today. First played it on ps2 years ago, slightly different but still amazing. Amazing music, amazing levels, the graphics and lighting and shadows are still beautiful. At the time I'd never seen anything like that. The story is great too and reminds me a little bit of Deus Ex. Both open with levels in which you have to infiltrate a terrorist base. There are some parallels between the lighthouse level and the statue of liberty level. I like the ideas in the game too, it's quite brilliant and there are things I never picked up on before. A "revolutionary" tries to steal computer information stuff from someone who worked for the US government through torture, the government always one step ahead (or rather behind) them in the form of Sam Fisher who infiltrates and fucks up their doomed efforts. The guard's story about hiding in the mountains at the start of the game and admitting defeat before being raided by the US who time their shots with the thunder as they gaze into the thunderstorm is great.

The bank level is one of my favourite levels in any game. The stealth mechanics are still great today, although somehow I preferred playing it on PS2 as I preferred using the analogue stick for adjusting movement speed.

There is a point where you come across a guy that was in the first game. He's one of the many nobodies you drop or choke. Before he is telling his friend about ninjas and they are real, he was beat by a ninja before. That ninja was Fisher on the oil rig in the first game.

There's an active server of people playing it before it got patched into something the community (mostly) hated.

You'll need to find a copy and make sure that its not patched all the way to the last thing that came out. There's a guide on that page mane.

I recently visited a family member I hadn't seen in a while, and most of our time together was spent drinking and playing games like Bad News Baseball, Arch Rivals, NBA Jam, Caveman Games, and Mutant League Football. It was good to reconnect over games like these, and it was just a really fun time.

Do you guys have any other games like these you'd recommend? Just sorta goofy, pick up and play, competitive sports games? They don't have to be retro games like I listed here. Really I would love to play anything else in the same sort of vein.

Only like two hours into it so I've yet to form much of an opinion, but so far it feels pretty good to be playing. Been looking forward to it a lot - but I was also kinda worried about the crazy levels of hype for it. But that's not always a bad thing.

This game is like if Hotline Miami and Streets of Rage had a child, and it grew up playing Brutal Doom.

Other than having possibly the most satisfying combat of any side scroller I've played, the soundtrack and level design is extremely well done.

man its just sad to see (you get mad about misrepresentation of gypsy fighting gangs in Russia)

I assume you've read the plot right? It's set in Russia about a gypsy fighting gang who fight to get money to buy drugs. So I guess you could say it's an offensive portrayal of gypsies (or travelers as the prefer to be known). But it's not like the game fully explores the gypsy background and reveals them all to be drug fiends. Games are only really offensive when they inaccurately portray a particular group or set of people. Seeing as they only follow four people I don't see how they represent the gypsy majority. All you could say is that the characters were two dimensional and unbelievable if they don't elaborate on their reason for fighting/doing drugs/generally being fun and badass. You're just taking offense, it's not offensive. There's a difference.

I guess it depends on your perspective, after using Linux for like 15 years, I'm feeling less like /qq/ and more like #itgetsbetter. It's still shabby, but better than it's ever been, and at least there's hope if Vulkan is adopted.

Hopefully steam will keep trying to push the steamos platform, and they weren't *just* using it as leverage against Microsoft, and their app store shenanigans.

I would love to go over to linux full time. But here's the problem. Things like emulation sure haven't caught up on linux yet. Granted I run a low end machine as my daily driver. But I can emulate a lot of systems at a full 60fps with no slowdown. On linux it's a mess.

I only play a small handful of new pc games every single year. So some of that's gonna be indie sutff that can run on everything for sure. But linux still just dosen't have the support for gaming. I wish it did.

There's like a handful of small things that keep me from moving over to linux full time. Gaming is probably one of the biggest. I want to love linux but its just not where it should be in my mind. Oh well, gonna keep my eye on it.

I wonder if these scratches could have been avoided if they designed the Switch to require force to be inserted into the dock, like it was a SNES cartridge.

But on the other hand, if you choose not to use a screen protector on an expensive touch screen device in 2017, even if it's one of those thin ones, you deserve whatever scratches you get. It would be nice if just one of these things could come with a screen protector though.

Hori's premium protectors worked fine on earlier consoles, but the adhesive apparently wasn't meant for the extreme heat the Switch puts out. Their regular thin one works fine, but you should just get the amFilm one - half the price, twice the quantity and 3 times the quality. For god's sake don't get the PDP one.

Hori's stuff is always ludicrously overpriced. They give you half as many screen protectors for twice the price as a generic Chinese made one made of the exact same material.

I played it when it was free and it was okay. No, I know what the pommel is. Obviously you need a sword with a threaded pommel, not one where it's part of the hilt.

It came out of some dumb 15th century HEMA manual and turned into a bit of a meme. The English translation is something like "If you wish to end him rightly, hold your sword up on your arm. You must unscrew the pommel and throw it at him vigorously. Close in with the throw and use your sword at him."

Basically run around like an asshole trying not to get stabbed for eight seconds, throw it at his head, and then skewer him while he's still confused and trying to figure out what the fuck is happening.

He's right, you know. And what kills me is nobody's talking about a sequel.

Personally, I'd like to see a multiplayer cooperative set on Hadley's Hope from the second film, with an option to play as Newt or her mother.

You could have different character types with different abilities, colonial marshals would have guns, engineers would have tools and be able to weld and make flamethrowers and pipebombs, WY executives would have overrides for computers and doors, and prospectors and miners would be able to use vehicles and heavy machinery like power loaders.
It still wouldn't be a straight combat game like Aliens because civilian and law enforcement weapons would be underpowered compared to the Colonial Marines, so make it a voxel-based game and bring in acid blood and construction as a game mechanic, basically building barricades and setting traps and distractions on a day/night cycle, like 7 Days To Die.
And player griefing, stealing and killing would be completely in character for the franchise, the humans' basic handicap against the bugs is they can't work together and keep screwing each other over.
You could play as the bugs, and be dependant on snatching the humans alive, and hiding eggs and gluing humans up in front of them in hard-to-get places.

Its a cool idea. But I'd prefer the survival aspect of this that you're talking about would get toned down. There's an awful lot of those games right now. And it's just gotten a bit repetitive to me. Now I'm always down for more alien games, always.

Hell which ones have you played bro? Fucking alien and alien vs predator have gotten some damned good fps games. And they can play on anything. If you haven't? Check em out.

Alien is such good fodder for a fps game honestly.

Like MGS:V, A was a commercial failure.
They both turned a small profit, but as they were extremely expensive to develop compared to the potential profit they could make, they were both bad decisions from a risk-reward perspective.

IMO Aliensolation had the potential to be to VR what Halo was to the xbox if that ever materialized beyond a broken beta that only worked with the Rift Dev Kit, but any marketing person who tried to justify dev costs greater than if every person who plays games of that genera and own a compatible system were to buy the game would be fired on the spot.

I played and replayed the beta for 8 hours now.

Lets get one thing out of the way:
Its not a tactical masterpiece and the firefights don't even come close to GRAW!

Singleplayer is a big pile of steaming shit, because of dumb AI!

But Coop is a blast!
having this huge (and I mean HUGE!) map and multiple approaches into camps while trying to stealth with buddies is a blast!

Difficulty spikes in the second area of the beta, where you get to fight more of the military forces and bases are way bigger with alarms and generators etc!

>trying to clear a huge-ass camp, still with some civilians inbetween because of slums running through
>waitng for nightfall
>shooting snipers off the towers from the distance while 2 of our guys infiltrate base

> the team that uses some sort of tactic rather than just running around aimlessly is the one that wins

That could be said about any fucking game. When we think tactics in shooting we think shit like socom or rainbow 6 pre vegas and when tom clancy gave a fuck and wasnt dead.

maybe again a case of not updating their drivers?
idk, runs smoother here.

Uplay and AI still sucks, though!

And Wallhack and X-Ray-vision need to be optional, goddammit!

A lot of things weren't as beautiful as they showed in E3 back in 2015.

Wow, this looks so much like the lake in gta5 from the peninsula with its streets that lead you out to where you entered to the river going from the lake opposite to a mountain chain.

Is there a website that lets you add the Doom-font
on top of a pic etc?

Almost certainly no. I've never seen that font used outside of the logo. Also, look at the way the first and last letters are shaped differently than the middle letters. You're probably gonna have to make the font yourself, plus two more fonts if you want the first and last letters shaped differently. If you're not good at that stuff, try hiring someone on fiver

DOOM font would look cool but be unreadable. Just like a REAL MAN (TM).

Sorry but there is only one person on the entire internet that actually liked No Man's Sky, and we all know he's the same guy that has a crucifixion fetish.

That'd probably explain why you were trying to find a Fallout mod for it instead.
