Anyone else into Borderlands 2 ?

Clocked 600 hours, took a long break and revisiting this masterpiece again.

Its really a high-polished coop-experience
with unbelievable amounts of details that went into the level-design!

(oh and that epic Dragon-keep-DLC! Delicious soundtrack!)

/Fanboy-mode off

But endgame, slag and pearlescent-weapons suck arse-hair!

id always go total ham and love it, then my interest would gradually peter off as i got into NG+ (hard mode, whatever)

stuff just hurts more, damage sponges a whole bunch, and youre more acutely reliant on items being both close to your current level and rare/amazing etc

this. the main portion of the game is a fucking blast. best drunk play co-op i ever barely remembered. the endgame portion with tank enemies and slag reliance sucks. also the endgame bosses. I managed to solo the original, got to the so called "raid bosses" in 2, looked at my total play time and decided i was fine without the extra horseshit.

the endgame bosses in 2 are horseshit.

I remember meeting up with a random dude online who hacked a bunch of cool weapons for me, my favorite was the fastball grenade that did like 100k damage at level 50

Good times...

That wasn't anything special really. I had the weapon generator installed as well and it made the game a lot less grindy. Still a shit game though. The AI was garbage and everything turns into a chaotic mess really quickly.

The game is a ton of fun but the endgame most weapons are completely unviable. If it inst the Pimpernel, the Thunderball fist, sandhawk or Unkempt Harold it sucks dick.

It was the game Borderlands 1 promised to be. Good presentation, fun weapons. But I felt the game was a little to limited for its own concept. It was still very corridor-shootery, and I never felt like I was playing a role, for which I might need a certain weapon. There's sniper rifles, but you never do sniper shit, for instance. The experience is always the same.

I was so into the first Borderlands... For a little.

The story was awful, but the gunplay and scavenging was fun. I liked finding a new weapon that had some power I hadn't seen. By the time I beat the game and got the first NG+ I just lost most of my zeal for it. Then I realized it was just going to max enemies out a little more and give slightly better gear. Then I quit playing and never played a sequel for more than ten minutes.

7/10, would be 8/10 if the story wasn't so full of bad jokes

I was bored as fuck of playing it while making my way through the final levels to get to Jack. I never managed to make it to the end because I was tired of the guns being so weak due to slag being introduced forcing a specific "switch to slag weapon, enemy is slagged, no switch to the weapon you really wanted to use" style. Here are more disjointed thoughts coupled with faded memories.
I also remember feeling like like I was just wandering to enemy zones with very little in between each zone to fight which made the world feel a little lifeless. Something I used to enjoy in Borderlands 1 was leading a pack of creature enemies into bandit territories and causing havok but the zones were so far apart in the sequel that they would lose interest in chasing me and wander back to their zones. I also never felt mobbed by enemies the way I felt in the original. I used to walk into the spiderant colony and be completely surrounded by enemies in a moment and try to survive or the bandit sites would spawn all bandits as soon as an alarm was raised forcing me to run and use tents/buildings as cover to survive. In Borderlands 2 I remember walking into a bandit encampment and the tents I was nearest to would spawn their 5 to 6 enemies. I would dispatch them and everything was peaceful until I walked to a new area of the camp which triggered a few new guys(5 to 6) for me to kill and everything would be peaceful again, repeating the process until the area was cleared. Even when I cleared the area the chests, if there were any to be found, were very low level and consistently spawned terrible guns. The whole point of the first game was GUNS EVERYWHERE but 2 seemed to be about useless greens and whites EVERYWHERE. The enemies never dropped a single useful weapon either.
I liked finding weapons in the first game so I would spend hours trying to find the perfect combination for me. I would look up gun parts that were generated to see what made each gun special and calculate their damage multipliers and sell anything that didn't fit my play style which basically boils down to tanking straight into the middle of the chaos and trying to survive. I would search chests for the best elemental weapons with the best parts for increased proc rates. In Borderlands to I felt locked to finding weapons only specifically allowed for my current level. I would go to the slot machines (good new idea) and gamble for new guns but the same guns would pop up repeatedly except for very minor changes and when I say I played it I played it for hours to see if ANYTHING new would pop out and it never did. The chests were just as useless and honestly were very sparse throughout the game. I liked the new idea of kiting large enemies with stages of increasing power (another good new idea) to raise chances of new weapons dropping when finally dispatched. Some of them only really do so if you play with other people which I don't do since all anyone ever does is try to scoop up all weapons before anyone else can unless you really know the people you're playing with but nobody else but me was dumb enough to buy this game.

I feel like the world looked amazing and varied compared to the first but the story was somehow even less interesting and the humor was just not my thing. Like it was trying too hard in some way. Maybe it was just that the humor felt too frequent. Also, I remember they toned down the humorous gore. No more burning enemies with fire elementals, dissolving enemies with acid down to their skeletons, popping heads with crits and electric elementals or gibbing an enemy so thoroughly that all that's left was a boot filled with a dismembered foot. I dunno the game lost what little charm it had in the first place for me.

I should also mention that I only played the base game when it first came out. I heard they increased drop rates but when I picked it up for free to give another chance but nothing had seemed at all different by the time I started entering the mech controlled portions of the world. I then deleted the game again.

UVHM sucks.

Remember getting the Serpens in BL1 and ripping through eneies like paper!

Supposed "Pearls" in BL2 are total garbage.

The "Conference Call" for example is totally useless without the Bee-Shield!

They turned great weapon-mechanics into a useless garbage-pool!

Recently got the bundle for PS4. Played the shit out of the first one back when it came out.

I honestly can't really get into it, I just want a somewhat mindless shooter and looting crazy guns. But in this game it feels like I spend most of my time running/driving from one place to the next, just looking for things to shoot.
idk, maybe I'm just getting old.

I played the first two games and liked them at the time, but when I think about, Borderlands is like a drug in the sense that you're always chasing the next high. The high being guns.

Why do you raid a dungeon? To get better guns. But there is always a better gun. And the gun you spent an hour getting? It's going to be replaced in an hour with an even better gun that does 5 extra points of damage.

I don't like that. Half the game is managing your inventory and comparing stats. And yeah, you can probably just ignore it all, but then what are you left with? A crappy story and crude humor?

Hopefully they pick up the story in the next game.

>crappy story and crude humor
It's just a dungeon farming game with a lot of guns. I like to feel like I have reason to use my guns, some call to action, like a compelling story, or an interesting world.

Honestly I don't mind the "Diablo-style endless loot hunt with only a veneer of narrative" of the series, I just wish the loot had a slower turnover rate. Nothing sucks more than getting some orange-rarity, neat-looking, awesome gun, and then getting some green piece of shit a few levels later that is somehow inexplicably better. They could fix this easily by making the level damage/health scaling increase in much smaller increments, so that a good high rarity gun can actually be useful for more than an hour.

It would also help how fucking awful the coop balance felt. Me and a friend basically had to schedule all our playtimes together on the first BL, because we noticed that if one of us played for even an hour without the other, that couple levels of difference between us would mean the game felt like either cheat mode for one of us, or ultra-hardcore impossible mode for the other. The games just overall need to be way less stat/level focused before they get a thumbs up from me.

Gearbox nerfed the droprates drastically, made the loot-pool basically worthless.

Loot in BL1 felt much better than loot in BL2, mostly because you could actually use random weapon drops and they would be an improvement, even over legendaries and purples. I also liked that you really could find legendaries anywhere (much more often than BL2, at least).

One of my favorite times in BL1 was picking up a legendary Fatal Crux shotgun from a random enemy, and proceeding to tear through the next few areas because that thing was a fucking monster.

I didn't hate Battleborn and Overwatch for the cluttered shitty HUD
but more for advertising themself for something they really aren't.

There is nothing special about these TF2-clones,
they are boring af
(and have maybe the worst UI in videogame-history!).

What is it with games made especially for people who normally don't play games?

it's tf2 except with anime characters that each fit some kind of general archetype people can idolize or relate to. they cast a very wide and generalized net so that most people will at least like one of them. that's really the main difference beyond the characters not having the exact same weapons as the tf2 gang, and why it's so popular even when the gameplay isn't really different. the UI sucks because when you try to reinvent something really simple you often end up making things more inconvenient and clunky than before instead of making it more accessible.

i recently started replaying BL2, it's fun but my GOD the fucking grind
the co-op is great, althought beyond the upgrade in sheer scope between 1 and 2, 1 kind of did everything better. But maybe htat's just because it was the first game. i had some amazing 2 player co-op with BL1, most notably the playthrough with 2 phasewalk specced sirens. just phasing, exploding, running around, phasing again because almost 0 cooldown, shit was great. And I had a lot of fun with a mordecai melee playthrough, just running around the battlefield slicing up everything, crits left and right, fucking ninja. BL2 has never quite recaptured that feeling for me, but it's still some good mindless fun
