I was thinking about picking one up, but I hear it has a super loud fan. Are people exaggerating or is it true?

Has it been fixed on newer pro's?

Is it really that much better then a standard PS4?

When I first got my PS4 it was the quietest console I'd ever owned. As the years went on, however.....not so much.

The more dust your PS4 starts getting up in it, the louder it's gonna get. To a point, obviously. Problem is, Playststions have always been god damn fucking dust MAGNETS.

It also depends on if you're playing a game on disc or not, and what games exactly your playing and which parts. For instance, Fallout 4 and GTA V don't really get my ps4 going too loud. But pretty much the entire time I played Far Cry 4 and a good chunk of Wolfenstein II, the damn thing sounds like a 747 taking off, like fucking jet engines. "WWWWWHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

If I wasn't scared of breaking it, I'd open her up and clean all that dust out.

Bear in mind, I have the original PS4 model. The only reason I'd ever get a Pro would be to play games in 4K and 60fps since I have a dank 4K tv, but my cable can only produce image quality as high as 720p or 1080i. And my PS3 and 4 can only do 1080p. So right now the I'm only able to get that full 4K 60fps quality via the Tv's Netflix and YouTube apps.

My buddy's PS4 pro is as loud if not louder than my regular old PS4. I can-aired my PS4 a couple times and I don't think I'm getting all of the dust because I definitely think it got louder over the years.

But it depends where you're keeping it. You probably won't notice the noise if it's in a larger room with the audio up, but it will be loud if you just have it on your desk next to your monitor.

Still quieter than my fucking Dreamcast.

>>710122
I don't think PS2 fat or slim or even PS3s got that loud but some models of PlayStations definitely made a BUNCH of noise. They're definitely dust magnets on the surface, because they're black but I haven't seen or heard many noise complaints personally.

I've heard about this but haven't had any issue with mine. I clean out the dust from the side vents every few months.

>Is it really that much better then a standard PS4
Can't say, decided to get a Pro instead of a regular one right away. It kinda depends on the game too. Newer games generally support better graphics and fps, some of the older games have been patched which sometimes helps.

tbh I got the Pro because I had the extra money to blow, if I was on a tighter budget I wouldn't have bothered because in the end it's more about the actual games you want to play IMO.

Worked at a game store where we refurbished consoles and if your PS4 is making loud noises, you might have a civilization of insects in there. It’s something that kept me from even getting a PS4 for a while.

Those legs. So many legs!

The pro is naturally a little loud but not more than a big desktop pc.

Clean your PS4 every now and then. You won’t break it taking off the plastic cover and you can blow out everything without removing any parts.

Yeah, nah. Maybe on a couple games, like diablo 3 or Rocket league
4K for anything moderately graphically intensive you're lucky to not get drops below 30. The last of us in 4K gave me a headache.

You have to take it apart if you really want to clean it out. Just air dusting the intake and outtake slots isn't going to do much.

Shame. I'm just going by what it was advertised as being capable of. I'd assumed that, at the very least, the modern games being touted by their developers as capable of running at 4K/60fps would, you know, actually be able to do such a thing. Hell, that's literally the only selling point the Pro has, besides "more storage space" (a surprisingly crucial thing. PS4 games take up more space than one might expect) but there are normal PS4s that have the same level of storage, so....the Pro is basically a sham? The damn thing can't even play 4K Blu-Ray movies because Sony couldn't be fucked to give their great big 4K console the ability to play fucking 4K movies? Games only. Even though the games and movies use the same fucking kind of disc! And now it turns out the only shit that you can actually play in 4K is...fucking MINECRAFT?! And Rocket League? Diablo 3? That all the games a person would WANT to actually play in 4K/60fps, all the games where such a capability actually MATTERS, arent able to even maintain a framerate of 30fps or 4K resolution?

That's depressing. Oh well, fingers crossed for the PS5 being able to actually display video in 4K resolution, run games/video at 60fps, and actually MAINTAIN that level of quality.

Yeah it is a shame. You can turn off the 4k setting and it does make games in 1080p look better depending if it has support. Some stuff is upscaled to 1440p for less jaggies. Other games it might help prevent dips below 30fps that would occur on normal ps4s. Not really a big difference but only 100 bucks more so it might be worth it.

As far as I know, the PS4 Pro basically boils down to
>4k around 30fps
>1080p maaaaybe 60fps
You can get a budget PC for the same price that is guaranteed 60fps on 1080p and at least close to 40-60fps on 4k, but you miss out on all those awesome Playstation exclusives. Up to you

Some people are saying ''but ps4 is cheap'', yet they're forgetting to add thag the games on ps4 are 2x times more expensive then on PC, and by wanting to play old games, they need to rebuy the HD remaster of the same product that they own, not the mention the monthly payment of psplus.

While on PC you're buying a 1 product and playing it for the rest of your life.

P.S. not trying to bring a console war

> 40-60fps on 4k

Nigga plz. You can get 60fps in 4k because you can play League of Legends in 4k.

A GeForce 1080 still sucks at 4k, and anyone with half a brain will go for 60 fps over 4k. After the half-brains, many people will still forego 4k for 120/144fps

Ultrawide is trash.

Supporting it in Starcraft and Heroes of the Storm means I play both of those games in a shrunken 2560x1080 window to maximize my field of view to that standard.

And as a side effect I have to play in an awkward as fuck form factor and edge-scroll is unusable.

Fuck Ultrawide in the dick. 16:9 was already too wide. The upside of ultrawide is that you can split it down the middle and get two displays that are no longer much too wide.
Seriously, go back to 16:10. Go back to 5:4. I can't even buy the kind of monitor I actually want.

RTS have had this problem some time, how to arrange screen space across 4:3 and 16:9 evenly. Some of them used to show the same proportional area. This would disincentivize use of 21:9 on games it's not suited for.
What does blizzard do? Set the vertical field of view statically, the wider the better, and then goes ahead and supports ultrawide. Cunts.

do you have a 1080? I can play tons of new games on ultra 4k/60fps. Very rarely I'll have to drop one or two settings down. 1080s do not suck at 4k. 4K Also gives plenty of older games a nice facelift(might be my favorite part). Dunno what you're talking about.

4K is certainly not required and 60fps is a must, but if you make a good living and enjoy nice things it's pretty damn cool. Not overrated imo. The monitors are also very affordable at this point.

Nah, you gotta either settle for wobbly framerate in the heavier stuff (If you have Gsync this might be fine) or shell out for a TI.

Not every game is Gears of War 4 but that's the example I got with the card. Pretty typical Unreal Engine game, pushing 4k on the box.

What the 1080 does great is 1440 at 144hz, which is slightly too much for a 1070.
Personally I just do what the consoles do: drop render scale to like, 80% It looks worse in a way that doesn't bother me even slightly.
I also have no fucking idea what the point of having a 23" 4k monitor is but it wasn't expensive enough to stop me.

Battlefield 1 ran fine in 4k ultra, so did MGSV and Overwatch. As did Doom 2016 after turning down a couple options that didn't seem to change visuals at all.

My point is it hardly "sucks at 4k"
