There's probably a driver's manual available wherever you are at. There tends to be a lot of procedural stuff in there, exactly what's supposed to happen at a 4-way-stop, what to do at a one lane bridge, the like.

Driving school might be a good idea for you. Check what's available, price, reputation, possible reductions on your insurance.

>Where does one even learn to drive?
Driving schools are mandatory in my country (for now), but even if they're not mandatory in yours, i'd take it.
Not only will you be sure you're up to accepted standards, but you're pretty sure that you don't pick up bad habits from your dad/mom/spouse/whoever

As >>35532 mentions, they may also give some insurance benefits and additional options.
If you live far from nearest town/city, i'd grab trailer driving lessons as well.
If you live in a cold area with risk of lots of ice and snow, i'd strongly suggest you take a winter or ice driving safety course as well.

>How do I read the signs?
You'll learn that in the theoretical part of the driving lessons or from the book. The primary ones you need to concentrate on are speed limits and the signs that indicate the state of the road up ahead (like eg. a roadworks, yield or narrowing road sign) or localized rules (eg. a "one way" sign).
A few signs also help with gauging sharp corners etc.

Training with simulation-oriented racing games (eg. Gran Tourismo) helped me to learn to pick up signs and cues. On a race track there is also signage that helps you gaugewhen to brake and turn.

Im not getting a damn car payment. I'd rather wait until I'm in a new place and get my tax return. Problem is I want this specific car. There's only 2 that are under 100kmiles in my area one being 88k the other 56.
Obviously can't garuntee those will be there by then.
I'm in the Northeast. Willing to travel.
The 100+ miles will probably end up shittin out on Me sooner requiring maintence.

So just how rare are they?

I'm mexican Cambodian in an all black and Asian area with a ton of gang activity. Tints in any car might get you pulled over. I don't necessarily want a v8. I'm honestly leaning toward a v6 accord or just get a loan on an impreza. By luxury all i mean is comfort I don't really care about what the term means marketing wise. Just not like a fuckin two door camaro. I honestly just miss the feel and space of my dad's old impala SS 96. Say what you will about American cars but fuck I loved that thing.

>plus I'm working on my credit
I don't know what your exact situation is like, but my car loan did wonders for my credit it. I had about 4k cash plus a thousand on my trade in for a 10k car. The loan I got through a local credit union was for three years at 4.7% APR with very little credit, no penalty for paying the principal off early. This was buying through a used car dealership, mind you (evidently the only honest one in the area).

Anyway, good luck finding your white whale, OP. I'm just giving you some food for thought.

Maybe I'll just forever have to be on foot. While that would help my credit even with working full time I never have any money left over after rent and bills as it is. I maybe have 100-200 tops which in this state would just barely cover insurance let alone a car payment.

Oh yeah don't worry about that. I had planned to have an anonymous travel blog just to act as a sort of diary, but unfortunately the website I was planning to post on is banned here. 420chan isn't though lol.

Also wechat is the total ONE over here. So bizarre to hear your boss asking you to "Add them on wechat".

For anyone wondering it's like whatsapp but with legitimacy. So far I've seen it essentially do the job of uber, just eat, pay pal, apple pay, messenger. Because you can use it to send money, there's little games you can play. Like, the boss sends out a "red letter" or some shit and if you click the message quick enough you can earn money. Just like 30 pence worth of stuff or whatever but it's still really bizarre.

if you get a break from work you could go to Yangshuo, it's a few hours by train. Its really touristy but also beautiful. There's a bar there called Monkey Jane's rooftop and its the definition of a dive bar. You can smoke weed all you want there and play beerpong with the bar owner. I forgot her name but she has alot of coffee-cup tattoos and some of Dutch football teams. I hung out there one night and at sunrise we all climbed a mountain to watch it.

Yup still enjoying myself, every day at some point I smile to myself and think "fucking china..." and it's just great.
>Fucking hot
Cooling down now but things are gonna get ridiculously hot next summer. It is insane how hot it can get, I don't know how anyone got anything done back in the day.

Everything I said about the classes still stands. Although it is kinda chaotic sometimes, lots of last minute changes. I'm also struggling with discipline. The Chinese teachers come and take control if things get out of hand but it's not a good feeling to just hand your authority off to them.

I've been out every weekend and am yet to buy a drink. Other than when I went to Hong Kong. The culture here is table beers and if you're white you can take them, that's the vibe I've got.
>I really feel like I've lucked out with this move and the placement I've got. In a super wealthy well off area with low crime rate and loads of great places to eat. I'm sure there's some brutal places to teach english but Zhongshan really isn't one of them.
Yeah this is exactly how I feel about it now. It's not a walk in the park but I've got Chinese friends who can help me out and the mandarin classes are helping.

I've been driving beaters my whole life, up until recently, but I keep the beater cause she likes to get beat on.

First beater started well but went to shit with brake problems, power steering got fucked, exhaust system cracked in half, had some shitty accidents once involving black ice and a curb, another involving a concrete column. Rusted to shit, rear end was fucked, alignment was fucked, finally bought another beater and trashed this one for $200 bucks.

Next car started well but went to shit with brake problems, power steering got fucked, exhaust system cracked in half, etc. On this car, I replaced:

2 control arms, radiator, full front/rear brakes, rear brake lines, battery, alternator, belts, wheel bearings (not myself), exhaust flex line, spark plugs/wires, distributor cap, vapor vent valve, and probably other things too. It was a real learning experience. I have more tools than I ever thought I would own. But she still runs!

Before you even get to security, make sure there are no coins hiding in your pockets. They gave me a pat-down once and I wasn't sure if I'd been randomly selected or what. But after they let me through, I realized I'd entered the metal detector with a nickel in the bottom of my pocket. Whoops!

Get a window seat if you can. That way, you won't have to deal with your neighbor getting up to use the bathroom (you wouldn't think many people would use the bathroom on a two-hour flight, but it happens).

Bring the smallest carry-on bag you can get away with.

Eat lots beforehand so you won't get the urge to buy overpriced food at the airport.

I usually have anxiety going into new situations but I enjoyed flying from the first time. Waiting in the terminal sucks, but the takeoff, landing, and aerial views can be fun.

And this. Don't bring obviously sketchy items and don't act like a lunatic and things will go smoothly. TSA agents aren't always friendly (Who can blame 'em? They have to deal with government bullshit and the irritable public.) but they generally get you through security in a timely manner.

"why in the fuck cant californians use their goddamn blinkers before making turns or lane changes?!"

My conclusion is that everybody in California is literally retarded and shouldnt be driving.

Hey I was considering purchasing a 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited but have been informed that Legacy's up to the 2014 model year have the Takata airbags that have caused deaths and injuries due to shrapnel shooting from the airbag inflator from the front passenger airbag into the driver. Some people told me the 2015 model Legacy gets it even though the Subaru Legacy says only up to year 2014.

I'm a cross because the Legacy has the safety gadgets I'm looking for but this Takata airbag recall and other recalls commonly associated with Subarus listed on their website make me question buying this Legacy.

I'm thinking of getting a Volvo or Hyundai which are two cars that don't have Takata airbags and have any safety recalls that harm the vehicle's occupants. I know it's like a 0.8% the Takata airbags hurt you but it's not worth it to me to drive knowing it would injure or kill me. Meh. Should I get the 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited or which other vehicle would be worth looking at?

if it was sent in for recall wouldn't the airbags been replaced? If it bugs you that much then I'd say look at other cars. I know a couple people who've bought hyundais who are very happy with them.

That being said my mom bought a subaru outback a few years ago and she likes it.

v8 pushrods are great because they're small

I would rather have a wrx over a charger I think, no stick in the charger? these questions are always dumb though because you have to drive them to know

chargers dont come with a manual transmission. To both of you I am most definitely getting rid of the Subaru as after the accident it bugs the shit out of me and I want something that rides quieter and either gets better fuel economy or offers me something (Like the sound of a v8 in the Charger)

Other cars I was considering were actually a manual transmission chevrolet cruze and a toyota IA. I may look at a Honda fit or a hyundai accent but I would prefer getting an American car. (I know dodges are assembled in Canada) These are all waaaaaaaaaaay different from a V8 boat but if I were to get a cheaper car I would have quite the chunk of change after selling my subaru.

The subaru has 16k miles on it ...

After everything you just said, I want to hug you. Back when I sold cars on the side, I'd get some kid like yourself to come along once or twice a year. And holy shit could I make a killing off you types.

It is your money so spend it how you want but holy fuck guys, that shit is just dumb all around in so many different ways.

>I am most definitely getting rid of the Subaru as after the accident it bugs the shit out of me and I want something that rides quieter
What kind of accident? I don't know how old your Subaru is but if it has 16k it is likely near new so you've probably got a lot of debt on it and possibly negative equity. Which translates to HOLD THE FUCK ONTO YOUR FUCKING CAR HELLO? NEGATIVE EQUITY!?!?!!

>I want something that rides quieter
Then a used Charger is not for you.

>and either gets better fuel economy
Then a Charger is not for you.

>or offers me something (Like the sound of a v8 in the Charger)

I like you, angry salty car guy who shows up sometimes. you have that jaded appeal like a burnt out salesman or something.

I'll take pretty much any boxer over a weak v8, sound wise. weak v8 is really disappointing sounding.

old shit cars are still best tho, mainly cause weight, and
>borrow money for car?! when you aren't retired on a yacht already?!

the charger weighs 1000lbs more than the wrx. you're gonna feel it bro

The subaru was paid for in cash, new

It was a rear end accident where a hyundai hit me at 40mph while I was at a red light. Not good and should have been totaled. paid 27k after tax for it and bluebook for it is close to 24k. I have yet to get the diminished value from insurance. I want to get rid of it because it bugs the shit out of me and doesn't feel right anymore because the seats were fucked because of how hard we got hit and it never has felt 100 percent since getting fixed.

I've also driven a new charger R/T and I liked the way it rode. I'm not after cornering performance because I have a motorcycle that is plenty fun in that setting.

So I'm torn between selling the car, buying an econobox and pocketing the leftover cash or getting something that's "fun"

although now that I'm typing this and thinking about it, that subaru was a "fun" car and now I just want to get rid of it - albeit due to an accident.

call me whatever you want, but I'm looking at new for whatever I get. I wont ever pay over invoice for a car, that's how my dad used to buy cars and how I intend to do so
