Im really biased towards the BMW's.

I was told by my mechanic (thats worked on porche/bimmer/merc) for over 30 years that the ///M only stands for "///More ///Money" and I would be better off getting a 5 series or a 7 series.

Thoughts?

Right now I have a 335i that kicks ass.

Also, if you drive automatic I will disregard your opinion, that is all.

Why would it just mean more money?
Different suspension tune, different engine in many cases, even completely different body panels on most models.
A 3 series M is nowhere comparable to the standard 3 series. I only had an E36 M3 for a couple of months, it was fun, but it was definitely more than a standard 3. It's not worth the cost, but it's not just a name.
With the 335i, I believe you are talking about the E90, which is past the point of real M3s, so there's no point getting the M3 in your case. After the E46, basically every BMW is the same boring car. I can't afford it anyway, but yeah, the ones on your OP picture make me go all "i want that shit" while any post 2003 BMW is just meh.

He said because
>repair
>maintenence
>listed the prices of a 3 series to an M3 side by side and they were literlaly 2x as much

they are more expensive in general, is what he was saying

Yes, that's true.
Still, they are what BMW says they are: slightly tuned, slightly more sporty, slightly more track ready standard models.
No one says they're worth the money, but there's definitely a difference between an M and non-M BMW. Just gotta sit in both, and you can tell.
I mean, people don't buy high-end BMWs because they're concerned about repair costs, do they?

It's not very smart to buy any high end car, because it loses 60% of it's value as soon as you leave the dealership. So it's kind of pointless to talk about smart buying M3s.

the 2002... it's not really the best by any means.
It's beautiful and has more character than any other BMW though. My friend has one, it's light blue, 2 litre and fully restaurated. Smooth ride. It feels like it's fast while it's slower than a Corolla.

BMW will have a very high long term cost of repairs/maintenance. Like all German cars, they are wonders of "engineering" and are cool to enjoy for a short while. Then they fall to complete shit and are worth nothing to anyone other than weed smoking white boys that want to be a rich frat boy but are just massive tools with self image issues.

A BMW won't go 200k miles without a MAJOR overhaul of something. Fuck, they won't get 100k usually. They are far more refined than American vehicles but you can expect them to hold together about like one. Toyota and Honda won't need shit until 225k or more. If you avoid some automatic noobmobile, A Toyota or Honda will last out to 275k-300k without a major failure usually.

this is bullshit. bmw makes great engines that will easily last 200k with proper maintenance. maintenance is the key with bmw's and that is why they have a bad rep. because you need to replace certain parts to keep the car reliable, it was designed that way. if you can do your own work and aren't afraid to get your hands dirty, a bimmer is a great deal. they depreciate a huge amount and you can buy own a luxurious sports car for the price of a used camry or accord. sure, it will cost more to own, but it will handle better and be more fun to drive.

>Will last 200k with maintenance.
>Replace all these parts in the vehicle.

>It will depreciate a ton.
>It will cost far more than a civic or accord to keep running.

(BUT IT IS BETTER! POWER OF GERMAN ENGINEERING! FAHRFICKNUGEN STRONK!)

Nigga, I've owned 3 Jap cars that all had NOTHING other than tires/clutch/brakes/oil maintained and they all went to 200k. Most went up to around 250k. And that is miles too, not 200k kilometers. Miles are even more distance than your shitty puny Europe measurements if you didn't know.

Bruh, you sound like you got a German cock broke off in your ass that you can't take out. I can see you and the local redneck kids with their 30 year old Ford trucks both yelling at me about how being able to work on it all weekend every fucking weekend is superior to just hopping in and driving without a care in the world. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, the problem is, I'll get fired if I don't make it to work because my fancy "bimmer" took me through a curve 2 mph faster but the driveshaft just plops out into the fucking highway at 4am.

>I guess you spoiled rich kids don't have to give a fuck about getting fired. Mommy and daddy will just call in some connections and get you a new job.

What the fuck even is the point of funner to drive or handles better? Nigga, You can't fucking drive any road to the point of your car sliding off or rolling over without doing well over 20+ on the speed limit or crossing into another lane by using the entire road. You're a fucking idiot if you take any vehicle into a blind or sharp curve at twice the speed limit on a public road. No wonder I see so many BMW owners wrecked or hitting innocent people head on. You shitheads all think you are pro racers just because you bought an expensive toy. Get the fuck off the road, cunt.

You're bullshit. The whole German race is bullshit. I'm calling netjester from the dead so he can tell you what bullshit your mere existence is. frowning emoji

protip: pretty stupid to act like you aren't the only civilized country left in the world using imperial. Wonder when will you get with the times?
You're right tho, BMWs are a fortune to mantain and they will fail if you don't spend a fortune on them every 5 months , but a VTEC 1.6 obviously isn't gonna have the same repair costs as a powerful German sedan.
BMWs are expensive, is this news for anyone? They aren't any worse than Audis or Mercs. Suspension-wise a 5series will last longer than a quattro.
If you're fine with 200 hp 5 liter engines, 1960s suspension in 2010 and the interior falling apart, your choice is the american vehicle. If you want some refinement you gotta pay the price. I think Jap cars are the best bet, better built than US stuff, pretty advanced tech, pretty cheap overall.
I live in Europe and everyone drives run down E36s here. You can get a 318i for less than $1000 and OEM parts for it cost almost as much as 5 series parts so no one's ever maintaining them, they drive them till they fall apart. The biggest problem with used BMWs is the people who buy them.

can you change your own oil?

I had a 1992 525i. I drove it for 25k hard miles. I got it at 195k. I could of been nice to it but I wanted an entry level car to try to drift. There's a farm parking lot that is a good spot to break your car but not wreck it.
>>34758
You can't drive the car the same. Civics are forever known to be the daily. The Bimmer is a great daily if you treat it like a 1 litter fwd. It's not though.
