Started with a diamondback hybrid frame($75) and added a bafang 750w mid-drive motor with 52v 6ah lithium ion battery. I have my headlight integrated, but not taillight yet. I will give a final build report when I have all of the running lights working and probably upload a video as well.

I use this to commute to work 5 days a week, 13 miles each way. I currently average about 21-22 mph following red lights and stop signs with cars present (why stop at 3am?).

I considered getting some sort of 49cc vehicle/ and electric bike, but just dropped 250 on a new bicycle. I'll probably get one down the line though. How do you like the electric bike?

>>35572 I love it. Changed jobs recently and now I work Downton in my city, only 4 mile commute each way, but I do bicycle delivery now with it. Only 750 miles so far.

My advice is get one. If you want practicality, go for a direct drive hub motor. If you can get by with a single speed bike in your city, I recommend going that route. The less moving parts the better (direct drive has little to no moving parts afaik). Also, definitely get front and rear disc brakes and I recommend 32c wide tires as they are more comfortable than 25c etc. Do not put a hub motor electric kit on a mountain bike. Go mid-drive for mountain bikes.
700c x 32c tires, larger frame, stiff bike no suspension (lose efficiency)My bicycle has a mid-drive which uses the chain to transfer the power. Means I have a lot wider gear range and tons of moving parts. My bike is more or less fragile with constant maintenance (bike is shit, nothing electric wise). Anyways with a mid-drive and granny gear you can climb up the steepest Hills with moderate pedaling (I'm 225# and bike is 50-55# total).
Can't stress this enough though. #1 important accessory is brakes. If you can't stop at 30 mph your ass is toast potentially.

Hey I have the same kit. I'm very happy with it. You should order the programing cable and tune it. You can get a lot more range. I have an 11 mile commute and I haven't touched my car since I installed the motor.
