>Tonight's card:
>NXT Championship: Bobby Roode (c)vs. Drew McIntyre
>NXT Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs. Ember Moon
>NXT Tag Team Championship: The Authors of Pain (c) vs. SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young)
>Johnny Gargano vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas
>Aleister Black vs. Hideo Itami

>NXT Champion Bobby Roode vs. Drew McIntyre
>The undefeated Drew McIntyre has decimated every opponent thrown his way, and tonight at TakeOver: Brooklyn III, the Scottish Superstar will finally get what he’s been in search of: The opportunity to challenge NXT Champion Bobby Roode. McIntyre has maintained a laser focus on NXT’s top prize since he signed with the brand in April. He earned the title match the old-fashion way, piling up one win after another. With a smash-mouth style, he conquered the likes of Oney Lorcan, Andrade Almas and Killian Dain. McIntyre’s win over the previously undefeated Beast of Belfast secured an opportunity to face Roode.

>With such an impressive resume, McIntyre might rightly be considered Roode’s most dangerous challenger to date. However, don’t expect The Glorious One to be intimidated. The resourceful and calculating veteran champion has consistently found ways to keep hold of the NXT Title against the stiffest competition. McIntyre says it’s no longer “Bobby Roode’s NXT,” but Roode will stop at nothing to prove otherwise.

lol adam cole. Drew needs to crush him like the pissant he is and then quickly move on to putting the belt on Black.

We all know this is just heading towards another boring "personal" feud between Cole and KOR, anyway.

I think they're going to let Drew reign until Ciampa is healthy, give him the title, and then build to Johnny beating him for it. If there's one thing evident from last night's show, it's that Gargano is the top babyface in NXT right now. I'm not his biggest fan, but that blowoff between DIY is worth building to, and is worth putting the title on the line.

Dave Meltzer's star ratings will also be posted in this thread should there be any.
Wrestling Observer Live airs Monday to Friday at 3pm EDT / 8pm BST and Sunday at 6pm EDT / 11pm BST in http://taima.tv/r/wooo2
Use this thread to post news as it comes through.

> One of the ideas for the Takeover was to do an NXT reunion, which was later confirmed by WWE pushing that on television, bringing several NXT alumni back for appearances at the show including Owens, Sami Zayn, Balor and others. Charlotte was scheduled as part of this, but anything with her is obviously up in the air right now.

> Another thing we’ve heard is that they were at least looking into, if not doing, a live music-accompanied entrance for Aleister Black for his match with Hideo Itami, like they’ve done in the past for Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura. Code Orange, the band that does the events theme song and Brendan Garrone, of the group Incendiary, playing him to the ring. Incendiary is big on the New York scene so this should be great if it does happen.

> Unlike the previous two years, when NXT, SummerSlam and Raw all sold out in advance, none of the three events were sold out this year as of press time. Depending on how it is set up, the capacity for the shows was about 13,500 two years ago and a little bit more last year. In the case of SummerSlam itself, it was because of far more expensive tickets being put on sale as the cheapest primary market ticket available is for $500. The secondary market bottom price has risen from $139 to $155, so there is no lack of interest in tickets and whatever ends up unsold would be more due to price. The same can’t be said for the other three shows. NXT still has $25 tickets left, and the secondary market price for entry dropped from $40 to $36. Raw has sold out the cheapest tickets over the past week, but you can still get secondary market tickets for as low as $45, and primary tickets left are all $125 and up. Smackdown remains the same as last week, with tickets as low as $25 available from primary market outlets and as low as $38 for the secondary market. The first NXT sellout two years ago was legit in the sense the ticket demand was there. Last year’s sellout was legit, but it was based on ticket brokers and scalpers buying up the building all three nights expecting a big return due to demand. However, NXT tickets in particular didn’t have as big a demand and the prices crashed, so this year the ticket brokers weren’t as strong in buying up anything but SummerSlam

> A story broke in the Mexican media earlier this week regarding a July 22, 2015, incident. The family of Adrian Enrique Lopez said that he was beaten badly by wrestlers Rush, Pierroth and Vangellys and is now confined to a wheelchair. The story told is that Lopez tried to intervene when the wrestlers were harassing women and attacked a security guard. The wrestlers side of the story is that the security guard and Lopez attacked them first by throwing rocks at them and they were just defending themselves. La Sombra (Andrade Cien Almas in WWE) was said to be traveling with the other three but he was, for some reason, not charged with anything by police nor does it appear he was involved in the incident, but his name has been in the media stories

> Televisa made the major announcement that TripleMania will air on 8/26 on Ch. 5, which would be equivalent to a major network station in the U.S., so this is their version of WrestleMania being on NBC in prime time. Ch. 5 is airing Mayweather vs. McGregor live. The plan is that after the fight ends, that they would then go to Arena Ciudad and air whatever is left of the TripleMania show, meaning the main event of Psycho Clown vs. Dr. Wagner Jr., the biggest match of the year in Mexico, will have to start late. TripleMania will air on Japanese TV on Samurai on 9/15

I understand what he's getting at but shut the fuck up. Dave was right to bury your stupid question. On one hand, having an archive of matches going back decades would be cool. But be happy as a fan that watching CMLL ranges from cheap to free.

IMPACT will air LIVE from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida for a night of unforgettable action on Thursday, August 17th for Destination X. The matches are set and the card is stacked, but always be ready for surprises!

Matt Sydal vs. Lashley: Shot vs. Shot

This Thursday on a LIVE episode of IMPACT Presented by GFW, Matt Sydal and Lashley go one on one in Shot vs. Shot. What exactly does that mean? Well, Matt Sydal and Lashley have both been clamoring for Title matches against different champions. Sydal asked for a future X-Division Championship, while Lashley has demanded a World Title Match. Bruce Prichard decided that only one man will get what he wants, but they have to earn it. Win and move on to face a champion. It is that simple. While the premise may be easy, the execution is anything but simple. For Matt Sydal he simply has to beat the best athlete on the planet today, Lashley. As long as Lashley isn’t looking past Sydal, he should secure a victory. However, Matt Sydal is cagey and a veteran inside the ring and if he can stick and move, he has a chance. What will happen when these two go one on one in Shot vs. Shot at Destination X? Who will earn their way to a title match?

Trevor Lee vs. Sonjay Dutt In A Ladder Match

The saga between Trevor Lee and Sonjay Dutt goes back several weeks at this point, and on Thursday night, things come to a head. The two will vie to finish #DestX as the X-Division Champion. Sonjay Dutt became the X-Division Champion in his hometown of Mumbai, India, when IMPACT travelled around the world to become the first major professional wrestling company to film television to air internationally in India. It was a milestone for the company and for Dutt. He came back to the United States as the rightful X-Division Champion. However, Trevor Lee devised a plan to steal the physical title from his grasp. This happened over a month ago on July 6th, and Sonjay still is not in possession of the Championship. All the while, Trevor Lee is still maintaining that he is the rightful owner. He takes what he wants, therefore the title is his. However, Sonjay Dutt is the technical Champion, regardless if he physically has the title in his grasp. This dispute will be settled officially at Destination X on Thursday night in a Ladder Match. And, guess what? It will be LIVE!

Gail Kim vs. Sienna for the GFW Knockouts Championship

As if #DestX wasn’t already going to be the hottest night of the Summer, a blockbuster match was made on #IMPACTonPop when it was revealed that Gail Kim will face reigning GFW Knockouts Champion, Sienna, in a title match on Thursday night. And, if last week’s encounter is any indication of how the match at Destination X will go, we are in for a fiery Knockouts Championship match. Many fans claim that Gail Kim is, and always will be, the greatest Knockout of all time. Kim has already stated that she plans on retiring very soon, therefore it would be very fitting for her to go out on top, as the Champion once again. She will always be remembered as one of the greatest women in professional wrestling, but that feather in her cap as the Knockouts Champion one more time, will only solidify that statement. But, will she be able to do it? Sienna sounds very confident in her abilities to defeat Gail Kim. Which Knockout will leave the LIVE #DestX show as the GFW Knockouts Champion?

His spots would be fine if he didn't do them for every match. The finger break I can allow as I have seen him use it as a sort of finisher recently where it leads into a roll-up pin, and there are multiple times where opponents scout it and get free.

But there are others where it goes into "You've never done a back body drop before so why are you trying to do it to HHH?" territory and it would benefit from Marty being more unpredictable from hitting them (So he does go for the Superkick instead of the fake-out, or he does throw the opponent into the crowd after he's got everyone to move out of the way).

Now that the 20 year celebrations are mostly done with it’s time to return to Neverland for DDT “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2017”! A lot has happened since Saitama Super Arena. Going viral for their portrayal of the POTUS, a Battle Royal on a moving train, even booking the Tokyo Dome for an Empty Arena Match. We’ve had the new generation establishing themselves in the main event and even got one to reveal his entire tragic life story because he believed it was all the champion’s fault. So what’s in store for Sumo Hall this time? Everything you'd expect. THE rivalry of modern DDT, 2 veteran aces going for Tag Team gold, Hair vs Hair, a match that can either decide the future fate of DDT or for Danshoku Dino's love life, and much much more.

The main even features former friends, both built up for the last 3 years to be the leaders of the new generation of DDT. Konosuke Takeshita, the man deemed as "The Future" since his debut 5 years ago. Most dream for his glory. A significant debut match at Budokan Hall, getting special one on one matches with talent such as Tatsumi Fujinami, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi & Hiroshi Tanahashi, all before he's even 21. Then when he does turn 21 he wins the KO-D Openweight Title on his birthday. And Tetsuya Endo, a man left seemingly in the shadow of Takeshita, looking to prove his supremacy and take his own place as the face of DDT's new generation.

Endo & Takeshita had great success as 3 time Tag team champions, but the rivalship has always been there. A loud range of number 1 contenders matches, special single matches, and even for the Openweight title itself, and at this point, the record is 6 wins for Takeshita(1 match was stopped when Endo dislocated his elbow), Endo with 2, and a 60-minute time limit draw from back in April. Endo has ended up looking like the bridesmaid to Takeshita. So in July 2016 when Endo lost to Takeshita again but with the title on the line, he could take no more. When Daisuke Sasaki, the leader of DDT's main villainous faction, DAMNATION, gave him the offer to turn on his friends and join Sasaki and his pets for a better chance at success, he took it. While a deal with the devil, it has paid off well. Unflattering haircut aside, success has come, winning both the KO-D Tag and Trios titles with his stablemates, as well as earning this title shot through his King of DDT Tournament victory back in June. History is on both men's sides. While the champ has a 6-2-1 record on him, the record of Openweight Champions, or DDT champs in general at major DDT shows is not good. The OW champion walking into a major DDT show in places like Ryogoku, EDION Arena Osaka & Saitama Super, hasn't walked out with his title since Peter Pan in 2014. Takeshita is already apart of that record, losing his 1st title last year at Peter Pan to Endo's DAMNATION stablemate, Shuji Ishikawa. With such history, the odds couldn't be more in Endo's favor on this night. But it's up to him to deliver and keep that streak alive.

Meanwhile, Shigehiro Irie & Kazusada Higuchi will be the first to tell you they are not pretty boy ikemen wrestlers. They are bastards, guys, lads, YaroZ. The two have found success in the tag division since teaming together to represent the unconventional YaroZ sub-brand. Now as the KO-D Tag Team Champions they are challenged by the most powerful ikemen alliance of all. When HARASHIMA lost all of his remaining chances to headline Sumo Hall this year he told the wrestling media it was time for him to do something selfish. In previous years he did what was best for DDT but this year he wanted to do something for himself. Turns out it was to join forces with Marufuji and go after the Tag Titles. While Marufuji’s appearance in the match would be interesting on its own, the other factor in the match is the rivalry between Irie and HARASHIMA. Poor Irie no matter how hard he tries just cannot beat HARASHIMA. In their last meeting in June, HARASHIMA pinned Irie in under 3 minutes and Irie’s only reaction was to storm out straight back to the locker room. That has to be stuck in the back of Irie’s mind. More history in the challenger's favor. While champs going in have a better record on major DDT shows recently than the other titles, when a high level DDT wrestler teams with a famous outsider, they usually win the titles, one such example is HARASHIMA & Yuko Miyamoto just last year, so the odds are against the champs but they wouldn’t be YaroZ if it were easy.

The other 2 big matches have very heavy implications Daisuke Sasaki has made himself out as a strong Extreme Champion, defeating Jun Kasai to win it at Saitama Super and never looking back. He has since defeated the likes of Dick Togo, Antonio Honda, and Joey Ryan during his reign. But recently he's run into a roadblock by the name of Akito. Akito has racked up several wins over Sasaki, to the point where after Akito would beat him, he would elave his title behind, in what seems like Sasaki handing Akito the title, but he always gets it back. So when time came for a Sumo Hall challenger, there was no better option for an opponent(besides his usual and declined request for Candice LeRae). But the stakes are pushed further, as the match has been made Hair vs Hair with the title on the line, and the match can only end by Submission, KO, or TKO. Who will be leaving Sumo Hall cut and shaved and w/o the title. And As founder of DDT, Sanshiro Takagi has taken DDT to amazing heights and great success. Even Danshoku Dino believes this is as far as it can go with Takagi and that it’s time for a new leader. So the stip: If Dino beats Takagi, Dino takes over DDT! But after a private meeting with Dino's mom, Takagi has something to add. The match will be a Weapons Rumble, and if Takagi wins, Dino must get married!

Ok, I dont fuck with super Takeshita, at fucking all. Just created a sour end to that show and it desperately needed something to happen afterwards, and that wasn't teasing Takeshita having 3 belts at once. This era of force fed "aces" is fucking horrible

All that said, everything beforehand was still really fun and some really good matches and moments went down. Aaaaaaaaaand that ending video was fucking great, I must say.

Some of you may be aware that there are communities dedicated to the translation of anime and manga, as well as Japanese and Korean live action television, and European comic books.

While subtitles for everything said would be cool, what do you all think of the idea of fan-created English commentary designed to be played by those watching lucha libre, puro, or wrestling in any non-Engish speaking country, really? You wouldn't have to have any copyrighted material whatsoever in the thing released, instead having just the commentary, and instructions to hit play on the audio file at a certain exact moment to sync it up, much like how RiffTrax works.

The quality may not be incredible, sure, but it could make it more enjoyable and easier to follow for those who may not speak the original language of a given promotion, and could lead to growth in popularity for certain promotions.

Downside is, of course, that it would be a lot of work.

Just thinking out loud anyway. Even just fansubs for puro and lucha would be a cool project.

There was a stretch where I tried recording the on the fly translations for AAA in luchatube but around that time AAA changed the way their yt vids uploaded so they were tougher to download, then my free time went to shit.

But yeah lucha fansubs would be mostly great.

Does CMLL Informa work with yt autotranslate?

Mostly unrelated I once downloaded a New Blood retrospective with Japanese subs

If given the option I prefer to watch wrestling in a language I understand, in most cases it doesn't matter to me how awful it is. For example commentary on the FMW Tokyopop DVD's and the Big Vision IWA King of Deathmatch tournament DVD aren't great, but the commentary offers background info on the wrestlers, event and matches which pulls me into it more.

I wouldn't be against something like fansubs. The only case I've ever seen of commentary subs during a match is on pic related which has a 1991 Hart Foundation vs Rockers match from the Tokyo Dome and the Japanese commentary can be read with subtitles.

Was away for most of the day. Glad to see reception to the idea is positive.

Some fansub teams will drop translations the day after a show airs in Japan. Spanish is probably way quicker/easier to translate accurately than Japanese, too, though I don't really know any Japanese so I can't say for sure. If so, lucha libre may be the best place to start. Maybe weekly AAA or CMLL shows. Maybe some indie promotion if you feel there's something better around.

My Spanish is mediocre to bad or I'd just do it myself, but I'm happy to help in any way I can.

I've helped out with fansubbing a few shows, and whilst it is possible to turnover a 20 minute anime episode in a day, it's kind of a ballache, and would be even more so for a longer show.

I'd say (in my experience) it takes 45-60 minutes to nicely time the subs, for the 20 minute show, so on the lower end you might be looking at 4 hours of constant timing work, which is fucking mind numbing. What you'd probably want is 2-3 guys timing each working on a portion, maybe more if you can get 'em. Match graphics would be pretty easy to overlay text on/above.

If you can find a translator, I'd be up to help out with the subbing portion.

THE STUFF IN THE TUBES:
>Puro Tube is on Tuesdays in /wooo/tube - http://taima.tv/r/wooo at 3pm EDT / 8pm BST and shows promotions outside of NOAH, current NJPW, and Dragon Gate. Join in as everyone argues why their favorite fed is superior and Yanopost, Anopost, CIMApost and dance like Keita until your tummy is full from all that snackpine.
>DG Tube is on Thursdays in Mondai Night Ryu - http://taima.tv/r/mondainightryu at 8pm EDT / 1am BST and features the latest and classic Dragon Gate shows. Other stuff is featured here from time to time as well. (like cheesy 80s films or the mega marathon before Kobe World)
>NJPW on AXS TV is also on Thursdays in /wooo/tube and /wooo/alt - http://taima.tv/r/woooalt at 10pm EDT / 3am BST (9:30pm EDT / 2:30am BST if GFW Impact Wrestling is uploaded) showing matches on tape delay with English commentary provided by Jim Ross and Josh Barnett. Replays air on Fridays at 12:30pm EDT / 5:30pm BST (or earlier at a time TBA if there's more than one episode being replayed).
>Besides /wooo/tube and /dg/tube, MokoTV provides IPTV feeds that are now blown wide open and you can watch whatever is airing on Samurai TV, Gaora, or G+ in there, at least until it's fixed by the Chinese pirates. http://taima.tv/r/mokotv

Outside of Puro Tube, there's usually a few puro marks in the chat that can help fill you in on storylines and find you matches. Just show up outside of big shows like Raw, and you'll find someone in there to help you out. Puro matches also show up in the playlist, so scroll around to find them. Shows and PPVs are regularly streamed in the tubes, check the schedule for details.

>THE MAJOR FEDS:

NJPW: Oldest and largest promotion in Japan. Owned by Bushiroad and is booked by Gedo. His booking gets the tubes riled up sometimes (all the time), but the match quality generally makes up for it. In the midst of something of a revival, and although you may argue that it is already drawing to a close, they are still doing good business at the moment. They run one of the largest shows in wrestling, called Wrestle Kingdom, every year on January 4th at the fabled Tokyo Dome. Most every show they run, large and small, air in the tubes. They have a slew of foreign wrestlers on their roster right now. They also have a wonderful streaming website over at http://njpwworld.com/

Dragon Gate: Almost certainly the second largest promotion in Japan. Born out of the Toryumon promotion, which was the brainchild of Ultimo Dragon, their style is a mixture of classic puro, cruiserweight/junior heavyweight sprints, and lucha libre. Stable warfare is a huge part of the promotion, with most every wrestler in the company being aligned with a unit in some way. Though it is a big promotion, they retain a grassroots feel, with wrestlers selling merch before and after shows, and running many shows out of community centers and gyms. Most of their large shows air in the tubes, and footage is also posted here. They also have a show that is filmed monthly in their little studio in Kobe called Prime Zone which is wacky, fun, and full of Mondai Ryu schemes.

DDT: Indie promotion gunning for the second-largest-in-Japan spot alongside Dragon Gate. Founded in 1997 by Sanshiro Takagi (a big Stone Cold Steve Austin fan), they have taken the western sports entertainment style to the next level with ridiculous matches and outrageous gimmicks, like violently gay wrestlers, promos done in PowerPoint before matches, championships specifically for dark matches, and blow-up dolls and ladders winning titles. Despite the goofiness, there is tons of talent there, with names like Kota Ibushi, HARASHIMA, and Kenny Omega having been regulars at one point or another. They have released ddtuniverse, which is like NJPW World. A streaming site for all your DDT needs. The other companies that work alongside DDT also have their stuff on there. They, like NJPW have a great streaming service over at http://ddtuniverse.com/

What are Vince Russo's reportedly worst ideas?

Don't mention stuff like random things on WCW 2000 TV because that's a grey area and no one really knows who came up with what and who had the original idea. Also, try not to mention things Cornette said as he obviously has a bias and I honestly don't trust him to not just make things up.

Talk about and mention Russo ideas that wrestlers and other people like Bruce Prichard that worked directly with Russo have specifically talked about.

Here's one. Lance Storm claimed that Russo wanted to make him Bischoff's illegitimate son.
