>Oscars
No one actually thinks the academy awards mean anything other than mentioning a nomination in a movie trailer to make casuals buy a ticket to your shit film.
There's an actual organisation that lists the best films based on lists made by experts and professionals that people actually take seriously. Wrestling doesn't have that because no one credible writes about it other than Dave "arbitrary biasm" Meltzer because the wrestling audience has fuck all fans who actually understand criticism so there's not enough interest to justify putting in the work.

I feel like the WWE loyalists are Taker fans, so I'm hoping that they really go crazy in putting Roman over so that said loyal fans might actually break

If anything, the true horror story would be

>Undertaker loses, raises Roman's arm. Then does the knee pose to Reigns.
>The crowd cheers

The problem with Okada is that he's aesthetically appealing, but his facial expressions kill it half the time. There's pictures in this thread where he's obviously sexy, but then there are others where he's wearing his stupid droopy dog face. oh, boo boo bee boo, someone just farted. i still don't understand why they've trained him to use this face as a default.

I also don't like it when Okada is half-smiling, like in >>5675299 because he has the same exact expression as an ex of mine, and it's weird.

>buy into my shit false dichotomy

Wrestling at it's best is a mix of fantastic story telling with wrestlers you're invested in having great matches. WWE doesn't have almost any of this, most of their "great" matches are by the numbers WWE main events, there's like one story line at any given time on either show people care about while the rest of the storylines suck ass despite the effort put in in the ring. This myth that indys and foreign promotions don't have any story is bullshit and anyone would know that if they actually watched the indys or foreign shows.

  1. Drawing doesn't have any baring on quality of product, there's multiple smackdowns from recent months that are better than a lot of what was on tv in 1999 and 2000, especially in the midcard.
  2. Just because you really like great matches, doesn't mean you don't like great storylines or build up to go with it.
  3. Great build up means nothing to the viewer if the end product is shit.

Al Snow's outlook can benefit those in the business, it's some helpful advice so you can be all "money and miles" and stuff, but this outlook doesn't benefit you as a consumer whatsoever and holding these beliefs that drawing and such matter makes you a mark.

As long as the product you enjoy isn't going to shit or out of business, why the fuck would you care? You don't see any of their "dimes drawn" anyway.

ITT: Bring back time limits to WWE by Jaki Numazawa - Sat, 25 Mar 2017 08:38:47 EST ID:0qPMlM4B No.5675325 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply
File: 1490445527604.png -(941563B / 919.50KB, 1280x720) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. 941563
Benefits:

>If WWE doesn't feel like anybody needs to look weak they can book a draw rather than have the heel get DQ'd or have some interference
>If WWE wants to tease a title change they can book a draw and have the faces miss out on winning the titles by seconds
>Time limits would make the final few minutes of a match before a potential draw more exciting as wrestlers would work twice as hard to win the match knowing they only have moments left
>Heels could heel it up by fighting for a draw in the final seconds instead of possibly losing
>WWE could remove the lime limits for special matches making those matches special
>Time limits ensure we might only get [insert number of minutes] of a terrible match/wrestlers

Negatives:

>Loss of opportunity for a random 30 minute banger of a match
>WWE might overdo draws as they are prone to abusing shit that works
>WWE is dependent on their strict TV schedule and time limits might interfere with commercials and other segments

What do you think /wooo/? Picture unrelated

It's one of those things that never seems to get used "properly" (ie - the submission move actually does knock the opponent out and they don't make a comeback at the last one) so it becomes pointless because everyone knows it's going to happen.

It's like during The International when one guy drops to the floor to try and trip his opponent up, except the opponent actually jumps over him - for YEARS I didn't get the point of it until one indie show I actually saw a guy trip up from it, and then it clicked.

I say:

Men:
Finn Balor
Harper
Rowan
Hogan (wishful thinking)

Smackdown Women's Match:
>Kelly Kelly (all but confirmed)
>Victoria (blowjob pics might slow this down)
>Summer Rae

What Made A Match "Great" For Undercard Wrestlers In The Old Days? by Shuri - Fri, 24 Mar 2017 23:37:20 EST ID:qfX5xSjT No.5675026 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

This is something I've wondered about. What constituted a great undercard match in the territory days or even the WWF and WCW during early-mid 90s when match quality wasn't as important and wrestling was heavily character-based?

You hear undercard guys talking about putting on a great match to get over and hopefully move up the card. We all have a perception of what constitutes a great match in 2017 and most of those perceptions are usually pretty similar and relative.

But what about in the territory days and the early 90s when wrestling was extremely character and story-based and match quality was an afterthought? If you look at main event guys like Hogan in WWF or the Von Erichs in WCCW, the crowd was popping for the story of the match. All the crowd cared about was that the good guy beat the bad guy, which is why you'd hear the crowd go nuts when the babyface would make a comeback more-so than for a particular move.

What about the undercard guys who were completely unknown with little to no character? Within the confines of the match, what did it take for them to get the crowd invested and get over? What was the point of them even being there? If all the crowd cared about was the characters and the undercard guys had no character, then how did the undercard guys have a chance? It's like they were basically just filler and a waste of time until you got to the upper card and main event with storyline and character progression.

I didn't say just the main event, I mentioned the upper card. This could've been 1-4 or so different matches, depending on which matches had a feud tied and weren't just a random match thrown on the card.

From what I've seen, most undercard matches back then had people sitting on their hands because they weren't invested.

Undercard in territory days was basically jobber vs. jobber at their popularity level. F'rinstance, in the old Mid-Atlantic days, pre-Turner (but definitely WRAL tapings), a main event would mean Johnny Valentine/#1 Paul Jones/Wahoo McDaniel/Blackjack Mulligan, and that's early 70's.
At a live show, you'd get matches like Nelson Royal vs. Two-Ton Harris, Brute Bernard (well after his Skull Murphy days) vs. Johnny Weaver, then the mid-card would be something like Bob Bruggers vs. Ole Anderson, and then get a Rufus R. Jones vs. Angelo Mosca match.

It would be a 5, maybe 6 card match, and it would be weekly. Floor seats were $6.00, but I got it for $4.00, being a stupid wrestling fan kid.

t. oldfart. get off my lawn.

Thanks for the information. It's cool to see someone who's been a fan that long and can tell about it from experience and memory.

I guess my main question is, what was the point of the undercard back then?
What was it trying to accomplish?
Was it just to get young guys experience?
Was it just to fill time?
Did live audience fans even give a shit if there was no story or strong characters involved in the match?

I really want your opinion on this since you were actually there to see it and aren't looking back at that time period with 2017 eyes trying to assume how things were.

All the scenes were taped by Brand, so it's likely another Smackdown guy. I think some folks were saying it could have been Harper.

Harper was the luchadore, though, right? The traps definitely look like Cesaro, but I guess I could see Orton. Hell, I could see it being Mojo.

I love Marty's look, kinda meh on his wrestling, but fuck does he need to cinch in that Chickenwing properly. It's supposed to be his finisher and it looks like garbage.

Didn't find a TEW Thread to post this in so here we go.

I've had an audible Finish before, but never at a PPV and now it happens in a PPV Main Event. Damn it,Daniels had just lost the Belt to Eddie.

That's not drawing, that's being in a good match. (And not even the best match on that card!) How is he rated in your National Battles?
