> There were mixed feelings in GFW and Anthem regarding how to handle the Alberto El Patron situation, but a suspension right now was the way to do it because an outright firing would look bad if charges were dropped. The company has a history of not doing much to stars under the Dixie Carter regime, such as no punishment for drug test failures (and they did drug test and there were many who fit into that category), and never punishing Kurt Angle for one DUI after another until finally after so many, they agreed to have him go to rehab. Some wanted him gone, since that would be the reaction from the corporate side, but realized until the case is settled that probably wouldn’t be the best option.

> Others on the wrestling side, where the old school history is to back stars and cover up or overlook indiscretions in the past (the modern world makes that tougher) wanted to keep him, believing him to be a big deal, with the idea he may help them sell tickets to events or improve their television deal status both domestically and internationally with the idea of selling his star power based on Twitter followers and Hispanic media reach. There was also the thought that when Paige’s contract with WWE expires, that she may come here and they see her as a potential major star. But even from that side, it was clear right now he had to be suspended.

> The Atlantis knee injury is worse than anticipated. He underwent surgery this past week and will be out at least four months, meaning he’s missing the Anniversary show, which he’s usually a major part of. This will be something like the third anniversary show in the last 34 years that he’s not going to be on. The injury took place when doing a tope on Mephisto on the 6/30 show at Arena Mexico when he ruptured his right patella tendon. As noted last week, it is amazing that he’s worked so long and done a high flying style, particularly in his 20s, and never had a serious injury until now. No time frame has been announced for his return past he’s been pulled from stuff throughout the summer

> According to those with New Japan, it’s actually unlikely they will be doing anything in New Orleans in conjunction with Mania week, at least at this point. From one aspect it would make sense since they’d be able to draw a big crowd, but they are usually in the middle of a Japanese tour at that time, plus I don’t think they want to be seen as piggy backing off a WWE event. There have been people who have talked about it and talked to New Japan about working with them on it, but at this point it’s not going to happen. The key is that New Japan doesn’t want to be positioned as an indie piggy backing off WWE’s biggest event, even though tons of U.S. companies and U.K. companies do that and it’s their biggest money week of the year

> When the second night on AXS was replayed, the segment where Ricochet came out and said that he and Ryusuke Taguchi were challenging the Young Bucks for the jr. tag titles, was edited off the broadcast. This was a decision made by TV-Asahi, not New Japan nor AXS. I’m not sure if it related to his burying Lucha Underground in the promo or not, but since this was a U.S. television show, Lucha Underground would have had to have given permission for him to appear, even if they didn’t allow him to wrestle

I wonder what it's like being in the shadow of a friend who is clearly the bigger draw/talent, and just kind of... being there? Like, him and CIMA have such a history; I wonder what Fujii is like to know he'll never surpass him, but is comfortable with it.

The best match so far from this tournament: Killshot vs Krane
Mostly because it was hard hitting and great way to end the night, one of my casual buddies doesn't like killshot and he didn't come to these tapings so it was pretty funny he missed out on that.

The biggest disappointment? Cage vs Pindar, mostly because I don't like potential good matches not happening mostly because both had to be protected and/or one of the matches has to be cut short to fit show's run time.

Best Heel? Muertes mostly because we've seen his rise in power, I like Matanza too but he started strong off the bat. Both are great though.

Best Babyface? Pentagon, he was decently pushed to be fed to sexy star but he got himself over and propelled himself to be a top star, couldn't even give him the title at season 2 for some bullshit reason. He's been the most over at the tapings, even over old ass Mysterio.

Best overall wrestler in Lucha Underground? Fenix, Matanza, and Muertes I always enjoy watching in the ring but Pentagon is the one who's best overall cuz his gimmick and mic work put them over the ones previously listed.
Puma a shit, flips don't give you personality, but I like seeing him as Puma over Ricochet, go figure.

Another great episode.

Seriously, this show is on an absolute streak of good episodes/matches right now. The main event was way better than I thought it would be. Everything Dante Fox does is fire.

>The final two legs of the Mayweather/McGregor press tour were 7/13 in New York at the Barclays Center and 7/14 in London at SSE Wembley. Both events were sold out. Toronto ended up being the highlight. New York was the worst for various reasons. After Mayweather arrived way late in Toronto, holding up the shows, I knew things were going to be screwed. McGregor always shows up late because he’s got that mentality that the star shows up when he wants to, so in this game of chicken, the press conference started two hours late. The fans were tired and McGregor came out with a mink coat and tried to be something he wasn’t doing a more rapper style of interview that sucked. Mayweather can draw money but this tour with the long promos (which were not a good idea) really exposed Mayweather as not being a good promo at all. People hated him and all, and it won’t hurt the drawing power, but it’s really clear that the Showtime editing in the 24/7 pieces that make Mayweather come off as this incredible personality is great work because he’s very one-dimensional as a talker. Both were criticized for promos, with the idea McGregor was being racist because he said he was half-black, and that he was black from the waist down, and Mayweather used a gay slur. McGregor came out at the start of his London promo to say he wasn’t racist. Mayweather’s promo was the same very night and not a good one. His focus was to act like he and Dana White were the smart ones because they’ve used the sport to make a ton of money while McGregor wasn’t in his league financially. It was actually a jab at White because he said he made his money underpaying fighters and that in this case, White is the pimp and McGregor is the ho. To a degree, you could say that from a shallow standpoint because UFC is making its cut wh…

>The viewership from UFC and Showtime boxing shows that the UFC fans have stayed interested and the boxing fans lost interest. UFC did 3.39 million views on Tuesday,. 2.2 million on Wednesday, 2.85 million on Thursday and 2.42 million on Friday. Showtime did 3.00 million on Tuesday, 2.72 million on Wednesday, 870,000 on Thursday and 190,000 on Friday

>According to sources in the sports betting world, the original thought was the fight would be big, potentially near Super Bowl levels, but after all the bets taken last week stemming from the press conferences, the belief is from a sports betting standpoint, they believe it will be bigger than the Super Bowl. The vast, vast majority of betting is on McGregor with the odds to the point that it would be very bad for the gambling industry if McGregor wins, and disastrous if he wins by knockout. The over/under on PPV remains 4.99 million buys and the odds are down to Mayweather at -500 and McGregor at +350

>Paulie Malignaggi, who was part of the coverage team at the press conferences, said he will be a sparring partner for McGregor in his preparation for the fight

>Early estimates of the 7/9 UFC 213 PPV were hugely disappointing, coming in right now at about 130,000 buys. That would be the lowest of the year, and the lowest since 2006 for a show that wasn’t headlined by Demetrious Johnson. Worse, it was for the International Fight Week show that is usually one of the best of the year. The advertising was built around Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko. We don’t know how much of the low number is people deciding not to buy when the main event fell through that afternoon, or if it would have done a similar number anyway. That number would indicate to me losing the main event hurt more than I expected

>The Demetrious Johnson win of the ESPY award for Best Fighter over Conor McGregor in a fan voted contest is a shock. Not that Johnson doesn’t deserve it more, but from a general public standpoint in a popularity contest one wouldn’t think he’d win. Over the year period in question, McGregor beat Nate Diaz via close decision and Eddie Alvarez solidly, while Johnson beat Tim Elliott and Wilson Reis, and his fight with Reis did terrible television ratings on FOX, while McGregor’s bout with Diaz set a PPV record and the Alvarez fight topped 1 million buys. Perhaps all the pushing of Johnson as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and most skilled fighter connected with more of the public, but not enough to where they actually cared enough to watch him try and tie that record. McGregor was up for a second ESPY, for Best International Athlete, which went to Usain Bolt

>The promotional videos for Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier that have been airing on the various shows are some of the best work the company has done building a match in a long time. The negative is that this fight is being so overwhelemed by the pub for McGregor vs. Mayweather

>The Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko bantamweight title match is now official for 9/9 in Edmonton

>An interesting UFC note about different fan bases. At the Hall of Fame ceremony on 7/6, which drew 1,600 fans, the place went nuts for Kazushi Sakuraba with people having tears in their eyes and those fans saw him as a huge legend. Three nights later, before about 12,000 fans at the T Mobile Arena, when he was shown at the PPV, there was zero reaction

>Regarding the 6/24 PPV show, the estimates have ranged from 90,000 to 135,000, although the best source pegged it at 95,000 in the U.S., which would be well under the 200,000 prediction of Scott Coker. Viacom company policy does not allow a release of the PPV numbers by Bellator although David Schwarz of Spike wrote, “I can say we are all very pleased with everything from the Bellator PPV–that of course includes the record gate, record domestic attendance, strong numbers for Bellator 180 and great exposure for the brand, and great momentum as we plan our next PPV. Details coming.

>The 7/14 main event from Thackerville, OK, with Derek Campos (19-6) winning via cut stoppage at the end of the second round over Brandon Girtz (14-7) in the third bout of their trilogy, was one of the best fights of the year. I’d go so far as to say that fight and the Michael Johnson vs. Justin Gaethje fight the week before in UFC were the two best. It was just an all-our brutal war with no defense, and an old school bloodbath. Jimmy Smith compared it to the old days of pro wrestling with all of the blood and Mauro Ranallo even pulled out the old Gordon Solie deal where Girtz’s face has turned into a crimson mask. I really didn’t expect the fight to proceed past the first round, because Girtz had a cut on the middle of his forehead that was as deep and sick as any cut you’ll ever see. It wasn’t a cut, it was a divot in the head. But John McCarthy let it go, with the idea that since the cut was right in the middle of the forehead, the blood wasn’t going directly into Girtz’s eyes and not compromising his vision. But at the end of the second round, the fear was the cut was so deep it could cause nerve damage and it was stopped. Fans were chanting “We want four” when it was over, in reference to a fourth match between the two of them. It was only the second trilogy in Bellator history. The first was Patricio Pitbull Freire vs. Daniel Straus, who have had four meetings. Campos was winning the fight, but Girtz was the epitome of a fighter who wouldn’t quit and kept firing back looking for the knockout and willing to take shots in order to have a chance too get it, since he had proved in the second fight that he had the power to knock Campos out. In the other TV fights, John Salter (14-3) beat former UFC star Kendall Grove (23-17) via choke at 4:37; Emily Ducote (6-2) beat Jessica Middleton (2-2) via decision and Joe Warren (15-6) beat Steve Garcia (7-2) vis 30-27 decision by outwrestling Garcia in a fight the fans booed

>The PPV version of the 6/24 show in Madison Square Garden, with Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione and Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva, will air on Spike in the normal Friday night time slot on 7/28. This is interesting because taped shows seem to get no interest if you follow social media, but the last time UFC ran a PPV replay on FOX, it did incredible ratings numbers (4.7 million viewers, the second largest FOX numbers ever were for the taped show on Christmas Eve) and yet based on social media reaction, you’d have thought nobody watched it

>Gegard Mousasi’s challenge for the middleweight title won’t be happening this year, as champion Rafael Carvalho signed to defend the title against Alessio Sakara on 12/9 in Florence, Italy. Sakara has been used as Bellator’s big star on shows in Italy. He’s 2-0 in Bellator but when he was cut by UFC in 2013 he had a four fight losing streak. Mousasi will debut on 10/20 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, facing Alexander Shlemenko. Obviously the idea coming out of these two fights would be Mousasi challenging for the title in 2018, or if Shlemenko would win, he may get the shot. Also on the Mohegan Sun card will be Liam McGeary vs. King Mo Lawal, with the winner likely getting the next shot at Ryan Bader’s light heavyweight title

>Eduardo Dantas was announced as defending his bantamweight title against former NCAA champion Darrion Caldwell on 10/6 in Thackerville, OK.

>The Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev fight on 7/1 did only 130,000 PPV buys, which was a big disappointment. They had fought in November and the first fight did about 160,000 buys. Ward, no matter how many fights he’s won, even with him coming from the Olympics and being one of the best boxers of this generation, he’s never broken through as the superstar expected from him

>The Edmonton Combative Sports Commission and the city of Edmonton have hired a third party to investigate the death of former UFC fighter Tim Hague, who died on 6/18 after being knocked out in a boxing match in the city two days earlier. The results of the investigation are expected in mid-September

>The Professional Fight League, the former World Series of Fighting, has its first full show on NBC Sports Network under its new name on 7/29 in Everett, WA, headlined by Andre Harrison vs. Steven Rodriguez, and features two of the company’s best-known fighters, Jake Shields who faces Danny Davis Jr., and Yushin Okami, who faces Andre Labato

I knew Seth Rollins. He lived around my area in Iowa at one point. I bumped into him in a sandwich shop. He was shooting the shit with the sandwich maker when I came up to give my order. I got a standard turkey on wheat with mayo and pepper jack. It was something very simple. All the while Seth was laughing to himself and pointing at me occasionally mumbling. "Is this guy serious?"

I wasn't sure why, I guess he was displeased about me ordering or what I ordered. After I got my sandwich I sat down and ate while he just leaned back into the windowed meat display and watched me. When I got up to throw the trash away he stopped me and offered his hand. I was shy because I knew who he was but he introduced himself anyways. When I shook his hand the other hand came out of his pocket holding a tazer which he used on my neck. When I fell to the ground tense I soiled myself. He laughed "This guy" and started kicking me in the face quoting Michael Cole over and over "THE ARCHITECT, OH MY GOD, VINTAGE STRIKES

I woke up in the hospital next to a vase of broccoli labled "From Sef"

Now every year he shows up to my families Thanksgiving dinner, uninvited, unannounced and just eats, laughs to himself and then leaves. Last year he murdered my mother. I fear what Hurricane Seth will bring this year.

I only watched one BJW match in my life and it was this one. And I watched this match 4 times already. It's so damn good and they only used like 5 fucking moves on each other. The whole thing was a slug fest of chops, lariats, headlocks and slams. What other match out there is just a hoss fest of two gorilla looking motherfuckers beating the shit out of each other?

That match is really fun, but mostly because the whole story is "CHOPS FOR THE CHOP GOD" since Kobashi is right there.

If you want a really good beefy trios match featuring one smaller guy, there's Sekimoto, Tanaka, and Sugiura vs Okabayashi, Hino, and HARASHIMA from June 2015 in BJW.

> Watch SmackDown Live at 8pm EDT / 1am BST in /wooo/tube and /wooo/alt - http://taima.tv/r/wooo / http://taima.tv/r/woooalt

Just days before WWE Battleground, WWE Champion Jinder Mahal will make good on his promise to bring the dangerous Punjabi Prison to SmackDown LIVE. What will the return of this punishing structure mean for Mahal and Randy Orton before they step into its menacing confines on Sunday? Find out tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network!

> Jinder Mahal brings the Punjabi Prison to SmackDown LIVE
WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has taken great exception with Randy Orton’s vow to make his life a living hell. After his victory over Tye Dillinger last Tuesday, The Modern-Day Maharaja promised to show Orton what hell awaits them both at WWE Battleground, as he promised to bring the Punjabi Prison to SmackDown LIVE. While the frightening structure is on its way to Team Blue, the WWE Universe is wondering exactly why Mahal is bringing it and what it means for The Viper days before he steps inside at WWE Battleground. What does the WWE Champion have in store? Find out on SmackDown LIVE, tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network!

> WWE Battleground opponents square off in tag team showdown
As WWE Battleground approaches, participants in two of this Sunday’s most anticipated matches will join forces for a huge tag team battle on SmackDown LIVE, as United States Champion AJ Styles & Shinsuke Nakamura face Kevin Owens & Baron Corbin. For Owens, the image of Styles taking his title at Madison Square Garden two weeks ago is probably still clear in his mind, and The Prizefighter isn’t likely to forget the defeat he suffered in tag team action last week against The Phenomenal One and John Cena. Corbin, on the other hand, will be looking to take control of his rivalry with Nakamura after last week’s ringside brawl between the two. With two huge singles matches on the horizon at WWE Battleground, will these competitors be able to function in tandem action on SmackDown LIVE?

> John Cena to address Flag Match in exclusive interview
Five days before he defends the honor of America in a Flag Match against Rusev at WWE Battleground, John Cena will address the impending battle in an exclusive interview on SmackDown LIVE. Though Cena and AJ Styles were victorious over The Bulgarian Brute in tag team action last Tuesday, Rusev sent a message to the 16-time World Champion earlier in the night, locking Cena in the Accolade. What will Cena have to say before he stands up for his country in Philadelphia this Sunday?

> Mike Kanellis to make in-ring debut against Sami Zayn
After weeks of preaching about the “power of love” to the WWE Universe, Mike Kanellis will finally get to show exactly how far that power can propel him in singles competition, as he makes his in-ring debut against Sami Zayn on SmackDown LIVE. Over the past few weeks, Zayn has run into Maria & Mike Kanellis on multiple occasions, interrupting their declarations of love. Last Tuesday, Maria demanded an apology from Zayn, who responded by saying he’s tired of apologizing. That led Maria to slap Zayn across the face and Mike to smash a glass vase of flowers across Zayn’s back, warning him that sometimes, love hurts. Will Mike’s in-ring debut be a success, or will Zayn get a measure of payback? Find out tonight on SmackDown LIVE at 8/7 C on USA Network!

It was worded poorly, let me try to expand on my thought.

What I mean is that the storylines need to have a pattern. The wrestling, the in ring product, should always be top notch. The angles can not and should not be 100% pedal to the metal. If everything is always an epic battle for the highest stakes it's hard to tell what matters and what doesn't. Battleground shouldn't be a best of the year candidate show but what it can do is cement Jinder Mahal as a legit champion and not some schmuck who continues to get lucky. It should cement John Cena as still the top guy on SD. When Cena challenges Jinder for the title at SS both guys will have momentum. I can't see how you add storyline elements, swerves, turns, smoke and mirrors... to this card without trying too hard and coming out with a worst product.

From a purely wrestling standpoint there are better matches to be had but SS is supposed to be the WM of the summer for WWE. Setting up their pins so they can knock them down at SS should be the priority over trying to prop up a random PPV to be something it's not. The only thing I can fathom is that WWE should space out different storylines so that SS has the top 3 or so feuds/storylines have their climaxes but a PPV like Battleground could have the culmination of lesser feuds with a few sparks from nowhere instead of the opposite where everything climaxes at SS.

>The Twitter account @TalkMMA, which has broken MMA stories in the past, is claiming that Brock Lesnar will possibly be returning to the UFC for another fight later this year and it’s rumored that he will be dropping the WWE Universal Title to Roman Reigns at Summerslam. Lesnar remains under WWE contract through 2018 but his deal allows him to do UFC fights.

>There seems to be confusion about Lesnar's suspension by the USADA. While it was a one-year suspension that started last July, Lesnar's retirement in February would mean that his suspension is frozen until he re-enters the drug testing pool. The @TalkMMA account notes that Lesnar could possibly get another exemption.

Like anything dirtsheet related, take this with a grain of salt.

Brock as World Champ could've worked if
>they had another credible, compelling champion on the same show
>they hadn't brought back the brand split
>they had stars who could cut their own promos
>they had interesting storylines written for everyone, with storylines intersecting with each other
But this is WWE, so none of that shit happened.

Street Fight
Zandig vs. Vince McMahon

I just realized today how awesome this would've been if it was 2002-era Zandig and 1999-era Vince. I can see it now, Vince and Zandig brawling around the arena and going backstage. Zandig throwing Vince through glass windows while saying "fuck" every 30 seconds. Zandig pulls out a weedwhacker and Vince gives that notorious wtf look. Vince and him getting on top of some crazy scaffold and then Vince punching Zandig off who goes flying 30 feet down into a bunch of tables.

That era of wrestling was crazy, and CZW in particular really went balls to the wall with pretty much every opportunity they had. The Mexico excursion is fun too for what it is, but doesn't compare to the overall quality of their time in Japan.

I highly recommend finding that stuff, and if you want more search out all of Honma's early BJW stuff where he was innovating light tube matches and fighting young lions like Jun Kasai.

For CZW fans, how would you describe the company from 2012? I guess basically ever since they started running the Flyer Skate Zone in Voorhees.

I haven't seen any full shows but I've seen clips of YouTube and anything involving Gulak and Tremont looks great. Everything else I'm not sure about. DJ Hyde looks like a great character too even though I was never a fan of his in the ring outside of his Mano Metalico stuff in CHIKARA.

How are the storylines?
How are the matches?

If storylines are intriguing, I can forgive average matches.
If matches are consistently great, I can forgive mediocre storylines.

> Watch in http://taima.tv/r/wooo and http://taima.tv/r/woooalt from 10pm EDT / 3am BST after WWE SmackDown

Talking Smack may be off the table aside from PPVs but the third hour of SmackDown with the cruiserweights followed by a few matches from Main Event are still here to watch, it's wrestling worth watching!

> 10pm EDT / 3am BST - WWE 205 LIVE
  • Despite his loss to WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville at the first-ever WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view – albeit by some questionable tactics from the champion – Akira Tozawa remains laser-focused on dethroning The King of the Cruiserweights. However, last week on WWE 205 Live, Tozawa’s match against Ariya Daivari ended prematurely when Neville attacked and locked his nemesis in the Rings of Saturn. The extent of the damage done during the attack was unknown for nearly a week until Daivari and the Japanese Superstar squared off once more on Raw. During the contest, it was clear Tozawa was favoring his shoulder and The Persian Lion pounced. Neville’s attack, combined with Daivari’s merciless targeting of Tozawa’s shoulder led to Titus O’Neil quitting on behalf of his client. After the match, Tozawa – upset that O’Neil made him quit – demanded that the Founder and CEO of Titus Worldwide secure not only a rematch with Neville for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, but also a rematch with Daivari. Tozawa may be over-exerting himself, especially if he’s nursing an injury, and that makes him especially vulnerable to The King of the Cruiserweights. Can The Stamina Monster fight through the pain, or will O’Neil’s decision on Raw turn out to be the right one?

  • Last week on WWE 205 Live, Drew Gulak issued a challenge to his nemesis, Mustafa Ali, who immediately accepted. The two Superstars will compete in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match to truly determine whether Gulak’s ground game or Ali’s aerial assault is better-suited for the Cruiserweight division. In recent weeks, Ali has proven that he can execute both high-flying and technical maneuvers to defeat his nemesis, but Gulak has tried and failed to go airborne. That failure – which Gulak apologized for – is what led to the challenge. Now, Gulak has the chance to defeat Ali twice an…

He and Rush went to a tryout the year previous, around the time Los Ingobernables was really taking off and they were gettng good buzz. WWE earmarked Sombra because he was good looking and they considered him the better worker.

He dropped the mask because he was on his way out and lolatlantis, then he and Rush did the Curtain Call thing after blowing off a mini feud between them.
