I don't think Akebono being Triple Crown is forgettable. I consider it on the level of... let's say, Vince holding the ECW belt? Not as bad as Arquette as WCW champ, but seriously a historically dumb misstep.

He couldn't go. He couldn't climb up the turnbuckles when he won the US title, he could barely walk up the steps to get into the ring. He tripped and fell during the Vince match numerous times at Wrestlemania. Bret could barely stand still.

However, when he worked, he worked against Heath who still to this day is WWEs favorite's favorite, and is one of the cleanest and safest workers to get offense on.

82 years is certainly not sad for a wrestler. He outlived many wrestlers and went beyond the usual life expectancy of a wrestler.

My Grandpa went to high school with Verne Gagne, and was a friend of Larry. When I asked him about Larry's kids, he replied to me that Curt was spoiled. For his birthday a few years ago, I made a DVD of his favorite AWA wrestlers, featuring Larry and the like. The Crusher was one of the nicest people around he told me. The only guy he remembers from that time that's still alive is Baron Von Raschke now.

I'm a lifelong soda drinker, so I'm not trying to say you can't drink it, but diet soda is every bit as bad for you in both ways. The acidity, not the sugar, erodes enamel and artificial sweeteners share some of the negative metabolic effects of hfcs and even add in some of their own like potential cancer risk and headaches.

If you really want to drink soda, use a straw and brush after drinking. Also keep a very close eye on the calories, but only drink those with cane sugar or corn syrup. The zero calorie promise of diet sodas is not worth the health risks.

The 2019 D-Ou Grand Prix (don't ask) is the 2nd installment of DDT's new winter round robin tournament, the 2nd major tournament in the company behind the single-elimination King of DDT Tournament that takes place in the summer. It takes place over 9 shows on November 30th to the Final on December 30th and features 14 competitors will fight in 2 blocks(7 wrestlers in each). The winner of each block is determined by a points system; 2 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. The block winners will compete of December 30th, with the eventual winner receiving a shot at the KO-D Openweight Championship at DDT Judgement on February 17th. If Openweight Champion Daisuke Sasaki wins, he will be allowed to choose his opponent at Judgement. HOWEVER, he will also be picking a participant he deems impressive enough from the GP to get a shot at the title at Maji Manji Super on January 3rd whether or not he wins the tournament.

Jordan Devlin battles Flash Morgan Webster

In the wake his incredible showdown against WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne last week, Jordan Devlin will go head-to-head against the innovative Flash Morgan Webster. Plus, The Coffey Brothers & Wolfgang kick off the show following last week’s altercation with British Strong Style, the newly-crowned NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley hand-selects her first opponent, “Bomber” Dave Mastiff locks horns with “Wild Boar” Mike Hitchman in what is sure to be an animalistic encounter, NXT’s Fabian Aichner journeys to NXT UK for a cross-brand matchup against Mark Andrews and much more.

The Brian Kendrick and Drew Gulak to collide in bitter showdown

The Brian Kendrick, Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Drew Gulak were once one of WWE 205 Live’s most feared and brutal alliances. The three Superstars set out to inflict pain and punishment and work toward keeping the Cruiserweights on the ground with their unique technical abilities. However, believing Kendrick had grown weak, Gulak and Gallagher savagely attacked The Man With a Plan after he showed compassion by pulling Gulak away from a helpless local opponent during a post-match attack. Now The Man with a Plan has forged an alliance with his longtime rival Akira Tozawa in an effort to counter the menace of Gulak and Gallagher. Thus far, the alliance has proven fruitful, and tonight, Kendrick will face Gulak in what will undoubtedly be a bitter and brutal throwdown.

TJP and Mike Kanellis battle The Lucha House Party in a Tornado Tag Team Match

Despite TJP making a case for a WWE Cruiserweight Championship opportunity to WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick, Maria and Mike Kanellis reminded The Cruisergreat that their rivalry with The Lucha House Party is mutual. After the trio caused Mike Kanellis to lose to Noam Dar, both Maria and Mike were hellbent on putting an end to the party once and for all. However, Maria made it …

> In something that everyone knew was inevitable at some point, just not this soon, the WWE informed most of its U.K. contracted wrestlers that they would be getting raises in their contracts but would no longer be allowed to wrestle for any outside promotions except partner groups, which would be ICW, Progress and wXw that are known about along with a few others that have been reported. The wrestlers were under annual contracts in the neighborhood of $20,000 to $25,000 per year, but they were told they would be allowed to continue working their regular schedules for the most part, as some companies like ROH, Impact and others were always banned, and more recently Revolution Pro, with its ties to New Japan, was banned from using the talent. More recently WWE insisted that talent couldn’t work anywhere within a week of television tapings since in the past they had to rewrite television if there were injuries over the last week.

> The assumption was that Fight Club Pro would also be okay, since it is owned by Trent Seven. They were debuting on 1/7 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, promoting it around the Japan debuts of Seven, Tyler Bate, and Pete Dunne as British Strong Style. However it appears that is not the case because Seven, Bate, Dunne, Jordan Devlin and Travis Banks have been pulled from the show. Others listed as okay would be Attack Pro Wrestling, which Dunne is part of the founding group, as well as OTT in Dublin, notable because that would seem to indicate them accepting a WWE working agreement if that is the case, but Fight Club Pro was also supposed to be okay.

> However, even in those companies the matches would no longer be allowed to be taped for public consumption, so the matches couldn’t air on DVDs or the company’s streaming services, which would hurt OTT, plus you have matchmaking issues as a guy like Will Ospreay or Zack Sabre Jr., who are two of the biggest stars on the U.K. scene, would not be allowed to work in a match featuring any of the WWE contracted talent. Part of the WWE’s working agreements originally offered and agreed to were that WWE would have the right for the next several years, if they choose, to purchase the companies for an agreed upon price (high six figures in at least some cases) and then shut them down so they would no longer compete “with themselves” with the idea that would take place when they were running full-time schedules in those markets.

> While he hasn’t yet started with WWE U.K., this does apply to Walter, who has signed with WWE for a U.K. deal. As noted here previously, Walter had turned down WWE offers since the early part of the year because he didn’t want to move from Germany. However, they made a deal with him where he could stay in Germany, sign with the WWE U.K. brand (and no doubt eventually be the top star if they go with a Germany promotion) and that he’d do what he does now and continue to fly into the U.S. on occasion to work big NXT U.S. shows. It’s notable that unlike most others where the end goal is to make the main roster, his goal looks more to be the permanent focal point of European NXT variants.

> Walter, who was not on the U.K. tapings as he was booked in Australia for the first time in his career this past week for World Series Wrestling, has been believed to have been close to signing with WWE for the U.K. division for months, with contact between the sides dating back to our original reports of WWE having interest in him. That was believed to be why he lost to Satoshi Kojima on the last Revolution Pro show. His last show with Revolution Pro Wrestling will be on 12/4. PWG was looking at doing a farewell dream match for Walter, which is why there was talk of a 12/16 date, because it would be the last date he could work for the company, but at this point the show has not been announced and the belief is that the next show would be on 1/18.

I liked it, but we're past the age of music videos so they were lacking in good material to rip on (original B&B's highest points were in the video clips imo)

I dunno ragging on the current content of MTV was pretty entertaining. It was strange seeing two characters that were basically the dregs of human existence a decade prior suddenly being somewhat sane and rational though.

And told you must start a new promotion and have to make that money back in a year. It also needs a gimmick.

Mine would be a Kaju style wrestling show where every match takes place in a Mock up of Osaka Japan.

I feel like this needs its own thread even though it has been discussed in the Dirtsheet thread a bit.

https://wrestletalk.com/news/british-wrestling-in-turmoil-new-restrictions-on-nxt-uk-talent-imminent/

>it has come to light following this weekend’s NXT UK tapings in Liverpool that several members of the roster have been given new contracts. The new deals will see an increase to the wrestlers’ annual salary (we do not know figures at this stage) but will prevent them from working for any other promotions in the UK.

>This directly contradicts previous WWE statements at the launch of the brand that there would be “no restrictions” on talent and that WWE were not “the big bad wolf” coming into the scene and signing talent to stop them from working elsewhere.

>Previously NXT UK talent were banned from wrestling for promotions with a significant online presence or with distribution deals (such as Defiant and RevPro) but were still permitted to wrestle on local-level indy events, as well as for WWE’s partner promotions PROGRESS, ICW and wXw (in Germany).

>That gravy train has ended.

>The terms of the new contracts prevent NXT UK talent from working anywhere else except for the partner groups, giving WWE exclusivity on its roster. These changes are perhaps a response to the disappointing houses NXT UK has drawn for recent tapings, with only a reported 600-800 in attendance on each night of the Liverpool events this past weekend, far less than the venue capacity. The logic behind this is that if a fan can pay £10 to see the stars of the show at a local indy group then they are unlikely to pay significantly more to see them at NXT UK.

>We should stress that this new deal does not apply to everyone on the roster, so you may still see some NXT UK talent appearing on indy shows, which would signify that they do not have new deals. We are told that it does apply to the majority of talent though.

  • Matt Riddle vs. Punishment Martinez [DEBUT!]
  • The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler) vs. The Cartel (Raul Mendoza and Humberto Carillo.)
  • WWE NXT Women's Champion "Queen of Spades" Shayna "Bully" Baszler vs. "The Big under Dog" Dakota Kai (non-title).
  • WWE NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa appearing

>Tommy Sports-Entertainment cometh
>At NXT TakeOver: WarGames II, the self-proclaimed “Greatest Sports-Entertainer of All Time” said it, meant it and proved it. In addition to defeating Velveteen Dream in a heart-stopping bout, he backed up his previous boasts of seizing control of the coveted NXT Championship and the spotlight that comes with it. Now, The Blackheart readies his “I Told You” speech, as he prepares to make his first live appearance since his successful title defense. What does the champ have planned? The NXT Universe won’t have to ponder too long, as Ciampa shared a special message in a prelude last week, stating simply, “Follow my lead.”

>The Captain of Team Kick spars with #ShaynaTwoTime
>Dakota Kai looks to settle a deeply personal score with NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler this week. After months of heated tension that began when Baszler violated Kai’s arm in a spar earlier this year, their testy history was reignited at NXT TakeOver: WarGames II, when The Captain of Team Kick joined Io Shirai in evening odds for Kairi Sane against Baszler and her Four Horsewoman cohorts Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke. As this latest chapter finds them at their most instable, tempers will certainly flare between these bitter enemies once the opening bell blares inside Full Sail Live.

>The King of Bros meets Punishment Martinez
>Matt Riddle has been riding quite the wave since making his successful debut a few weeks back. This week, though, The King of Bros will have his work cut out for him as he goes up against a debuting Punishment Martinez. Making his in-ring debut as an NXT Superstar, Martinez is a towering force (standing at 6’6”), who comes backed by a stacked résumé that includes multiple championship reigns. Riddle shares a commonality with Martinez in that regard, accumulating his own set of accolades on the independent circuit. Moreover, these two strikers are well familiar with one another, having crossed paths before coming to NXT. Previous contests removed, however, this matchup has barnburner written all over it. Who will step out beyond the yellow ropes with the W?

Fucking 10/10 final segment

Every character in it did what made sense to their character and acting perfectly

Ciampa literally chicken out of a match against Black and did it so smartly even the crowd bought it
Gargano once again allowed his ego to dictate his actions
And Black made sure he got what he wanted without letting Ciampa get off the hook

This week to week, character-driven plots is exactly what I look for in wrestling. Very pleased with that segment.

If you watch in isolation and haven't been following NXT, you might not think it was much. But if you've been following these characters for a good while it was very rewarding/enjoyable.

So with the recent news that EVOLVE is supposedly going on WWE Network in 2019, what does that mean for WWNLive?

WWNLive didn't even launch until February 2018. Would they really do away with it after only one year?

SHINE, DGUSA and the other stuff on the service isn't set to go on WWE Network. Just EVOLVE. Would EVOLVE still remain on WWNLive at the same time as it's on WWE Network? Or will they just remove EVOLVE from WWNLive, but keep the service for SHINE shows, DGUSA backlog and the others?
