This is an honest to God question, why do you do it? If you dislike WWE, why not stick to threads about promotions you enjoy and hide the WWE threads. What do you gain by bitching?

From the March 6th, 2000 Observer.

>Unlike most other wrestlers of similar fame, to do a career retrospective on Mick Foley is best saved for an examination probably years down the road.

>He was the classic overachiever, who defied all the odds, and was possibly the single greatest influence inside the ring on styles changing in the business of the past ten years. In a career destined, because he wasn't that great athletically and didn't have what was believed to be the right look and physique, for being mid-card for life, he ended up when his career came to a close, as one of the five biggest stars in North America, and even as a best-selling author. In the end, he went out, with the glory but without the storyline ego, putting over the world champion twice on PPV in his own specialty matches, and even in a tag match on television and in every angle over the final weeks of his career. Hunter Hearst Helmsley long since earned his spot as the top heel in the industry today, but if he is remembered some day as one the top heels in history, he owes a lot of it to the credibility Foley gave him these last two months.

>In many ways, from hard work, to unselfishness about making others look good, to being a student of the game and probably truly loving pro wrestling more than nearly anyone else, enough to give his body, and perhaps parts of his brain, to it willingly and happily, whether big money was involved or not, and not for the selfish glory of bragging about scars in the bar to get over to nobody, but more to satisfy his own vision of what he wanted his role in something greater to him, this business, to be, he should be admired like few if any wrestlers of our generation. The fact he was able to achieve his level of success without developing the star attitude that the majority of people who have it do develop, and the quality of the book he wrote, speaks volumes for him as a person.

>But, as everyone knows, this story is not without a dark side. Because of his inventiveness, coming up with dangerous ways for a guy who should blend into the crowd to get noticed by the crowd, the business is far more dangerous. Injuries are more plentiful and more severe than at any time. This…

Not trying to necrobump this, but I just found this clip from 2015 of Punk talking about coming to UFC, and he exudes his beta-ness at about the 30-second mark:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha0YoYTjBmU
>I'm a friend of Brock.

Not "Brock is my friend", but "I'm a friend of Brock."

There's definitely some impotent, passive-aggressive rage in him all the time. He can't enjoy who he is and put himself at the center of his own universe, so he's constantly bitterly, resentfully bickering against the world, especially his closest friends. He's a choleric personality, like Raphael from Ninja Turtles.

if it was just a normal casket match (with extra funeral props) it would probably would have been fine.

but they did this dumb "lower the casket from the ceiling" gimmick -- that was literally called a "Death bed" -- that killed the pacing (mood lighting and all).

before and after that moment, there was no "fire russo" chant and it was a typical mid-2000s hardcore match with a nasty legit blood job from Sting

it just had one dumb theatrical spot in the middle and thats all anyone remembers
LU's Grave Consequences basically did the same thing only better

watch the match: https://youtu.be/_TzsNxP5pgc

Gail Kim upset over Impact not getting any credit for Women's Revolution! by M-Dogg 20 - Sun, 26 Mar 2017 13:07:02 EST ID:6+sIYFqb No.5676516 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Stephanie McMahon spoke with ESPN earlier in the week about how Triple H and the fans (#GiveDivasAChance) were the catalyst for the revolution that occurred in the WWE Women's Division. 6-time Knockouts Champion,

Gail Kim, responded to that thought on Twitter(in the PIC), giving credit to TNA/Impact Wrestling for the change in women's wrestling. Kim held the WWE Women's Championship on one occasion for 28 days.

Here is what Stephanie Said:

> “It came about for a couple of different reasons. One, my husband, Paul Levesque, known as “Triple H” … he’s in charge of all our talent development. And what he wanted was to recruit the most elite athletes in the world, male and female, and he wanted to give the platform to really train. So men and women were trained the exact same way. And not only that, then in NXT, which started off as our developmental brand… and is now a global touring brand, the women were actually given the same amount of time in their matches on television as the men, which had never really happened before. So this groundswell came about from our audience. And, of course, on the executive side a number of us had been advocating for this for a long time, but then, there was a match on Monday Night Raw and it featured a tag team match of our, what was then called the Divas division, that lasted all of thirty seconds, and our fans started a trend called “Give Divas A Chance” that trended worldwide for three days.

> And their voice was so loud, and so strong that our chairman and CEO [Vince McMahon] responded and said “we hear you, keep watching #GiveDivasAChance”. And since then, at last year’s WrestleMania, again on our grandest stage, WWE Hall of Famer Lita came out to the ring and she announced that we were rebranding the Divas division to the Women’s division, she unveiled the new championship belt which evolved from a butterfly to a championship belt more akin to the men’s, and said that our female athletes are now going to be called Superstars – just like the men.

> And since that time, our women have competed in main events from television storylines to pay-per-views and – we still have a long way to go, but we’re certainly getting there, and they’re inc…

There's plenty of bad joshi out there too. The standard is higher than WWE, but mostly by the basis of a handful of great workers across a few companies. WWE Main Roster women's only truly great workers are Mickie James and arguably Becky. Several can be good (Charlotte, Bayley, Sasha, etc.) but they're inconsistent.

The standard on the main roster will shoot skyward once you have Asuka, Ember, Kimber, Ruby/Heidi, and Cross called up (Cross isn't crazy good, but better than several of the main roster women). With Shirai and Hojo likely coming in for the rumored women's tournament, and a good chance some other good women from the indies (there's a couple) and elsewhere (I think Zeuxis is still likely) will join them, the standard will only increase, in terms of the roster at least. Of course, they could just push Charlotte over everybody forever and keep at least one of the divisions as bland as Raw's.

Also, going back to the Knockouts, Kim vs Kong was always good to great, but you compare that with those same joshi matches you said to compare the WWE women and you'll find them lacking in comparison too, although by a smaller margin admittedly.

TNA is garbage ~90-95% of the time but it's not even up for debate that back when WWE touted a shitty butterfly belt and made their women's champion a revolving door of converted bikini models that were put on the fast-track through OVW that TNA was actually promoting women's wrestling matches between actual women wrestlers from the indies (plus Gail Kim from WWE).

And I say this as someone that doesn't even like women's wrestling and hasn't watched a second of SHIMMER/SHINE/Joshi/whatthefuckever.

I gotta imagine the whole reason why they had so many Knockouts ONO PPVs was because those could still draw a small amount of dimes. There's some older chronic masturbators out there who haven't developed an internet porn habit, I'd imagine.

Because he's honestly not that bad. Annoying at times the way he would throw out "insider" terms like candy. But when it comes to the usual play-by-play, he's really not that bad.

Now as for Josh "faggot" Mathews. How does he still have a job?

He's one of those guys who can be pretty insufferable but is actually alright, he just doesn't reel it back when he really should. More than anything he thrives in a taped environment like Lucha Underground or ECW/Smackdown many years back, it's when you stick him on a live show that the shit hits the fan.

Same way Russo keeps getting work, he knows people in the industry and has been employed before so "he must be good at SOMETHING, why else would they hire him?".

Imagine that you wake up you feel little bit groggy and you don't know where you are you then look at the mirror and see that you are none other than Vince McMahon. Yes, you have inherited the body of the genetic jackhammer and now you have one day to live life in Vince's body. what would you do and who would you interact with?

Not really a solid plan to run a company there bucko. Unless, killing the company is your plan then go nuts.

ANYWHO:

I'd hire Scott Steiner, make him GM of RAM and allow him free reign.

Give him a fucking mic, if you will.
