>WWE sucked up their best talent
>Other indies took most of the best of the rest
>The Philly area is no longer the epicenter of indie wrestling, so they have a smaller pool of talent
>Companies now offer exclusive contracts
>The shutdown came at a time when they had the most momentum as a company

Given all this, they're still putting on great shows. They went from an elite level indie to great indie, which sucks, but given their talent turnaround, i'm surprised they stayed at the level they did.

Supposedly SMV wanted some input on booking/storylines and that's obviously a huge no no for Quack.

> I wonder if any trypophobics ever mentioned anything to Quackenbush about that.

Who cares?

Even before the shutdown accessibility was problematic and the way they handle storylines the most logical points for getting into it was at the beginning of a season. Following what was actually going on could be downright obnoxious at times. Then the shutdown and dwindling interest and people not being bothered to start following again, which is entirely Chikara's own doing.

You want to know when you start watching a wresting promotion? The next show. "Accessibility" is only problematic for obsessive pack rats with FOMO.

As an example, take the Eye of Tyr. You don't need to go back and watch every show from 2006 onward to understand something like the Eye of Tyr. The performers and commentators do a great job of sorting all that out. God forbid you use some imagination to fill in the blanks or go back and watch some older matches later. Like, not knowing the backstory of the Eye of Tyr in no way hinders your ability to enjoy Frightmare or UMB matches unless there's seriously something wrong with you.

I discovered wrestling because people were linking cool WWE moments, stuck with it because I fell in love with LU.

I only started watching 3 years ago. Before that I had no concept of wrestling in my mind except for that one South Park episode ("wrestling is male soap opera") and someone believing wrestling is real being a butt of a joke. Friends just started linking matches and cool moments in chats and I would check them out every now and then. Some long HHH vs HBK nodq match was the first I saw in full and from there on I got interested. First started checking out classic WWE bouts, then started slowly checking out other companies, discovered /goo/ very quickly and at that point Lucha Underground barely started and had a lot of hype, so I got into that and it was my gateway into both lucha and the indies which I follow to this day.

I started watching wrestling after WM 31 after my friend showed me wrestlemania 30 and i thought that Daniel Bryan And The shield were awesome so i kept watching for that and i discovered asp around that time aswell, so shit posting about it there kept me watching through some of the rough parts and then in early 2016 i started watching more wrestling outside of WWE and when that started it led to /wooo/

So i keep watching WWE just for the guys i like and focus on the storylines i like and watch other wrestling for the great matchs

Yeah that's ridiculous. Just because SquaredSercle and /wooo/ don't talk about it much, doesn't mean no-one cares. Of all places, it does really well in Germany. Like I shit you not, it does 100k+ viewers over there, and those are SEASON 1 episodes. I could imagine them doing a lot better when they finally catch up (they're playing 2 episodes a week). The channel preferred taking a chance on LU over RAW, probably because it was cheaper, but also because 2 hours of LU is infinitely better than 3 hours of RAW.

>whatever happened to the angle where Dario got arrested? and who was the boss? and whatever happened with the cops?

Dario has connections higher up. These higher-ups got him out of prison. That said, a guy who was working with Dario, kinda, was killed by Cage, who now has a gauntlet thingo that basically contains the power of an Aztec God. Yeah, it's pretty fucking out there but it's cool.

Everything they've done in wrestling was funny as shit, and they're pretty cool from what you can see during YouShoot. Fuck yeah I'd love to have ICP commentary, but not WWE commentary the best part of their work is that they say a lot of funny shit that WWE would censor.

I actually liked his run as a heel champion in TNA around 2004-2006 or whenever exactly that was.

Then again, I liked Triple H's "reign of terror" with Evolution and absolutely LOVED Joey Ryan's PWG world title reign from 2005-2007.

I guess I'm just really into long title reigns where the heel is an absolute scumbag that will cheat at all costs to keep his title and treats the title like it's the most important thing in the world to him.

If he gets put in the top of the card, doesn't he get paid the same no matter what? Unless you're referring to his shirts making more money because there'd be more of them, as is usually the case with a top babyface.

I'm not 100% sure how WWE contracts work in that regard. Like, Brock gets paid the same, regardless if he has the belt or not. John Cena gets paid the same but obviously makes monster merch money. Does Jinder Mahal get more money for being the champ, or does he get his same contracted amount and a big thing to lug through airport security?

You have a downside guarantee where you are guaranteed to make x a year. Then there's bonuses, merch sales, etc.

Jinder Mahal and Curt Hawkins made 100,000 when they came back.
Jinder's contract was re-negotiated once he became champion. Besides that, you make more money when you win. You make some more money when you're featured on a PPV.

Makabe had some really great matches with Ishii over the NEVER belt. Other than that yeah, can't say I'm very into his work.

Nah, it totally doesn't have to do with them generally being sloppy, unconvincing, generally unsafe, and just sometimes downright bad in the ring. It has nothing to do with the fact that they couldn't even deliver a well written line (which they seldom ever get) convincingly on their best day or sell a feud to save their life. And it has nothing to do with the fact that generally speaking, the very top percentile of female workers in the whole world couldn't even hold a candle to the top 20% of male wrestlers in the world. Nah, it's some sort of fedora tipping, sexist head trip; we can't have people criticizing female wrestlers.

Roman Reigns, no doubt. Absolutely nothing appeals to me with that guy. What started off as "hate" has now turned into a "please just go away" feeling.

Big Show would be another. There is no reason for this slow, boring vet with one of the worst finishers to be on WWE TV in 2017.

Though I don't change the channel per say when it comes to the WWE women, lately I am finding myself doing something else when they come on TV due to shitty promos, horrid storylines, below average matches, and just overall bad booking (I can't believe they fucked up Bayley that bad).

>Watch Battleground starting with the Kickoff at 7pm EDT / 12am BST followed by the PPV at 8pm EDT / 1am BST in /wooo/tube - http://taima.tv/r/wooo and /wooo/alt - http://taima.tv/r/woooalt. Talking Smack will air following Battleground in both tubes.

Brace yourself for the return of the daunting Punjabi Prison Match when Randy Orton looks for retribution and his 14th World Title against WWE Champion Jinder Mahal at WWE Battleground. At WWE Money in the Bank, Mahal’s faithful cohorts, The Singh Brothers, not only cost Orton his chance to regain the WWE Title, but also attacked his father, WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton. In response, one week after attacking Mahal, a still seething Orton opted to hold up the June 27 edition of SmackDown LIVE. Orton threatened the titleholder’s family and everybody else who would dare to get in his way until he received another WWE Championship Match against The Modern-Day Maharaja.

Though SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon agreed that The Viper deserved another title opportunity, he decided that the personal nature of the rivalry between the two Superstars demanded a special match stipulation. Because Orton already lost his mandatory rematch, Shane-O-Mac indicated that he would allow Mahal to choose the stipulation. In a stunning announcement, The Modern-Day-Maharaja declared that he would give WWE’s Apex Predator a taste of his homeland by resurrecting the infamous Punjabi Prison! But what exactly will the intimidating Punjabi Prison Match consist of? With Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal locked inside the dreaded Punjabi Prison, there is no way to predict who will walk out with the WWE Championship.

At WWE Battleground, John Cena will defend America’s honor when he goes to war against Rusev in a Flag Match tonight. Cena made his long-awaited SmackDown LIVE return on Independence Day to celebrate the birthday of the good old red, white and blue in style. However, the 16-time World Champion was only seeing red when Rusev suddenly barged into the mix to insult the USA in front of one of the most vigilant WWE patriots and the WWE Universe. While The Leader of the Cenation was ready to throw down right there and then, The Bulgarian Brute made it clear he would battle on his terms at WWE Battleground. Cena was more than willing to oblige, and the showdown was soon made official. In this explosive Flag Match, the American and Bulgarian flags will be set above the turnbuckles on opposite sides of the ring and the first Superstar to retrieve their country’s flag will be the winner.

These two matches and more tonight at Battleground! Here's the lineup for the show:

Punjabi Prison Match for the WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal (c) vs. Randy Orton

Flag Match: John Cena vs. Rusev

WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) (c) vs. The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and/or Xavier Woods)

How and where exactly did storylines progress and develop for WCW/NWA and WWF before RAW came along?

I want to go back and watch all the old NWA/WCW Clash Of The Champions but I'd like to see the build up to each one. I skipped around on a couple of them just to see if they'd show highlights before the main events but they don't. I have no idea why these guys are fighting. What was their show? And is there any way I can find a summary of the backstory of at least the main events? Or was there even a story most of the time?

I think I remember a /wooo/kie on here not too long ago said that for WWF, they didn't really have a flagship show and the one they did have was Superstars which rarely featured main event guys which confuses me. Where did the Hogan/Warrior stuff develop? Was that just on SNME or was some of that on Superstars as well?

WWF ok so there was a weekly superstars show that featured squash matches and interviews that would forward angles, the big tv show was Saturday NIght Main Event which I believe was quarterly, cant remember off hand. on SNME youd get some Hogan, and a Star vs Star match.

WCW
6:05 est Saturday on the Superatation BAYBAY! (that's where you'd find a young me)
