The third hour of SmackDown with the crusierweights followed by a few matches from Main Event, it's wrestling worth watching!

> 10pm EDT / 3am BST - WWE 205 LIVE
  • On WWE’s Facebook page yesterday, a stipulation was added to Neville’s Cruiserweight Championship defense against Austin Aries: The two Superstars will now meet in a Submission Match at WWE Extreme Rules. Last week on WWE 205 Live, Aries vanquished The King of the Cruiserweights’ ally, TJP, in singles competition. Following the contest, Neville attacked the injured knee of his nemesis in an attempt to permanently sideline him. With Neville’s assault thwarted by Gentleman Jack Gallagher, A-Double remains the greatest threat to Neville’s reign. Last night on Raw, the WWE Cruiserweight Champion accompanied another ally, Tony Nese, to the ring for “The Premier Athlete’s” battle with Aries. With Neville watching at ringside, A-Double defeated Nese with his patented Last Chancery submission. After the match, The King of the Cruiserweights reminded just how ruthless he can be, attacking and locking Nese in his own submission hold, The Rings of Saturn. TJP has been vying for a title opportunity while at the same time forging a formidable alliance with the Cruiserweight Champion. However, could The Duke of Dab’s willingness to aid Neville backfire, resulting in him suffering a similar fate as Tony Nese? Or will TJP once more try to sideline or weaken Aries on Neville’s behalf before WWE Extreme Rules?

  • You won’t have to wait for WWE Extreme Rules for an all-out brawl in the Cruiserweight division. for tonight on WWE 205 Live, Akira Tozawa battles The Brian Kendrick in a Street Fight. The intense rivalry between these Superstars has escalated for months, as The Man with a Plan wanted to take Tozawa under his wing. When the Japanese Superstar refused, Kendrick and Tozawa engaged in several brutal battles to teach each other a series of lessons. Though the Street Fight on WWE 205 Live doesn’t mark the first time Kendrick and Tozawa have squared off one-on-one, it does speak to the bitterness and animosity that has festered between the two competitors. Their rivalry between has grown beyond standard competition and evolved into something deeply personal. There is no doubt that both competitors will give each other everything they’ve got, but it remains to be seen if this will truly be the final lesson.

If he said it he was probably told to say it. Wouldn't surprise me if they just try to pretend that the Attitude Era was this nebulous time period that included both the AE proper and the Ruthless Aggression Era.

Jinder Mahal stunned the WWE Universe at WWE Backlash when he defeated Randy Orton to capture the WWE Championship. How will The Maharaja follow up on his historic championship win? With a celebration! See Jinder Mahal’s incredible Punjabi Celebration tonight on SmackDown LIVE at 8/7 C on USA Network!

> WWE Champion Jinder Mahal to throw Punjabi Celebration
Jinder Mahal stunned the WWE Universe on Sunday when he defeated Randy Orton to become the WWE Champion at WWE Backlash. Now that he’s achieved his goal, there’s only one thing left for “The Modern-Day Maharaja” to do: celebrate. WWE.com has learned that Mahal is planning to throw a massive Punjabi Celebration on SmackDown LIVE. Exactly what that entails remains to be seen, but you can be sure that Mahal will spare no expense in celebrating his historic achievement.

> SmackDown LIVE Women clash in tag team battle following WWE Backlash melee
The “welcoming committee” walked out of WWE Backlash victorious after Natalya forced Becky Lynch to tap out to her Sharpshooter, but The Irish Lass Kicker and one of her partners from Sunday will be out for retribution on SmackDown LIVE, as she and Charlotte Flair will take on Natalya & Carmella in tag team action. With things being so combustible in the SmackDown LIVE women’s division, will their respective colleagues, SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi and Tamina, stay out of the fray?

> Shane McMahon to make Money in the Bank announcement
With WWE Backlash in the rearview mirror, the SmackDown LIVE roster’s attention now turns toward Money in the Bank on June 18. The phrase “land of opportunity” takes on a literal meaning on that night, as the chance to challenge for the WWE Championship any time and any place will be hanging in the balance. WWE.com has learned that SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon will be making a major announcement regarding Money in the Bank tonight. Will this news change the course of Team Blue?

> Who’s next to challenge The Usos?
SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos fought off the challenge of Breezango, despite the best efforts of Fandango and his undercover partner, Tyler Breeze. With The Fashion Police seemingly out of the way, who will be next to challenge the champions? There’s no shortage of duos hungry for an opportunity, including former titleholders American Alpha and the menacing Ascension. Still, don’t count out Breezango, who will definitely be looking to get back in the title hunt after a breakout performance in Chicago.

> Will AJ Styles continue his pursuit of the United States Title?
AJ Styles came up short in his effort to unseat Kevin Owens as United States Champion at WWE Backlash, thanks to the champion shoving The Phenomenal One’s leg into a hole in the announcers’ desk. That gave The New Face of America the opening to sneak out of Chicago with a count-out victory. After the bout, Owens added insult to injury by superkicking a defenseless Styles. After the incident, a visibly pained Phenomenal One wasn’t in the mood to answer questions about the match, instead wondering about his injured leg and whether it would force him out of action. Can Styles continue competing and go after Owens and his title? Find out on SmackDown LIVE, tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network!

I skipped everything involving Jinder. He does nothing for me, and I do believe Meltz is right that they're just hoping to monetize India with him. Nakamura + AJ was cute as fuck. It's surreal. Gay Cops and Usos worked decent and got some heat. I'm not going to be surprised if when New Day returns that they're completely forgotten by creative, which will fucking suck. I don't want more New Day. I want more Fashion Police. The women were just there. No new developments. Looking forward to the likely turn of Charlotte on Becky. I think Charlotte/Becky is Becky's best opportunity since WM32 (perhaps since debuting on the main roster) to show that she's not the weak link of the horsewomen. And lastly the Money In the Bank Ladder Match looks great (I'd prefer Rusev to Ziggler – and that would be the new Smackdown Six). The match has all the potential to be one of the best there's been.

No, they specifically said it was a SD PPV. Wiki has the same thing.

All the signs really point to it being both brands honestly.
The case is blue instead of gold.
They didn't announce it as a Smackdown Live PPV when showing the graphic on RAW this week.
Shane introduced the match as "Smackdown Live's MITB Match".

Could be reading too much into it, but since they treated MITB as a big PPV last year, I can see them doing the same this year.

Is it over for him before it even really began?
>Main roster debut match against Dolph Ziggler was long, drawn-out, and made Shinsuke look weak in a few parts
>Debut match on Smackdown Live was a tag match
>Gets a jobber entrance along with AJ Styles
>Gets the "get beat up for most of the match so AJ can get the hot tag later" treatment
>Forced "The Rockstar" nickname being thrown around on commentary

Is he officially a midcarder? Will he be in midcard hell for the rest of his career, because he can't speak English well? (See also: Cesaro)

Shinsuke, if you can hear me, it's not too late to go back to Japan, or even NXT.

WCPW Weekly Loaded Shows Cancelled Thanks to Youtube by Darren Young - Mon, 22 May 2017 14:35:50 EST ID:D7gI/bLv No.5743700 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

>In a decision that has not been made lightly, WCPW must today announce that the forthcoming weekly Loaded shows at Manchester’s Bowlers Exhibition Centre will no longer be going ahead.

>Effective immediately, our June 9, June 16, June 23, June 30, July 14, July 28, August 4, August 11, and August 18 shows have been pulled from our events pages, and refunds will be issued automatically to anyone who has purchased tickets to these events.

>All other announced dates, including our PPVs and all Pro Wrestling World Cup dates are unaffected by this. Our initial June 2 show will also be going ahead as scheduled, and all tickets purchased for this are still valid.

>This is a decision that we absolutely did not want to make, but unfortunately it has been taken out of our hands by YouTube.

>Owing to a change in their monetisation policy, which has now classified wrestling as “non-advertiser friendly”, it is no longer financially viable for WCPW to produce a weekly free show of the quality our fans deserve.

>Since the change the WCPW YouTube channel has seen its advertising income decimated, with our recent match between Alberto El Patron and Rey Mysterio Jr earning only $44 despite receiving over 1,100,000 views. This is a reduction of around 98% in what would have been Loaded’s main source of revenue.

>Without that money, it is simply not possible to organise, set-up, manage, produce and edit a free-to-air show on the scale we had intended, and we’ve been left with no choice but to alter our business model. We’re not alone in this either, as other promotions, journalists, and fans have seen their ability to make a living from their content jeopardised entirely by this change.

Yes. You're completely right.

How dare that asshole Pewdiepie invent this new concept of "Saying/doing offensive things".
Now that Pewdiepie has invented the concept of "being offensive", we must work together purge this blight by any means necessary.

Never forget that feelings are more important than petty concerns like people's livelihoods.

this is the first time I've heard of the pewdiepie thing having anything to do with causing the "adpocalype". got a link to that?

Also WSJ didn't just write about some offensive jokes, they straight up tried to imply he was genuinely a nazi and took a ton out of context to try and make that reach. Then it was like a month of backtracking, editing, and goal-post shifting and pearl clutching.

It's not though. WWE's flipflopped on the name for the era in various publications. Honestly, one of the ones I really liked was when WWE Magazine called it the Postwar Era, but that one only got used a few times.

Checked WWE.com and found this excerpt from an article from 2012.

"The greatest story ever told? We think the chronicle of WWE’s evolution ranks way up there.

It begins with Mr. McMahon’s purchase of his father’s business in 1982, and ends ... well, there’s really no telling. This timeline is divided into six action-packed sections, with each one detailing the events of a particular era in the company’s history: The ’80s Boom (’82-’85); The Dawn of WrestleMania (’85-’90); The New Generation (’90-’96); The Attitude Era (’96-’01); The Postwar Era (’01-’05) and The Modern Era (’05-Present)."

You do know that labeling specific time periods is an extremely common practice used by lots of people, businesses, and branches of science right? Studying history would be infinitely more difficult without this. The fact that you just want to use the specific dates is peak autism.

The first few posts are from this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer's star ratings will be posted in this thread.
Use this thread to post news as it comes through.

> The NXT Takeover show in Chicago has sold well even with a lineup that on paper doesn’t look like something that would sell well, as they are expecting in the range of 8,000 fans. In fact, lineups are meaningless. NXT, which has declined greatly in quality, still has a hot buzz and Takeovers have always delivered.

> Sam Adonis, the brother of Corey Graves, is starting as the color commentator for CMLL's English language TV show that airs in Canada on The Fight Network

> In an interesting note, AAA wasn’t allowed to air an Aerostar & Drago vs. Killshot & Marty the Moth match at the tapings in Tijuana. Killshot and Marty are Lucha Underground characters.

> Hiroshi Tanahashi suffered a torn biceps injury on the 5/14 show in Philadelphia. That should require surgery and put him out of action for months, but with the mentality the top stars in Japan have about being there for their company, he may not do the surgery and just rehab it. If he does that, it’ll lead to a permanent deformity in the biceps muscle which is tough on a bodybuilder type guy. But surgery would put him out of action six to eight months, and mess up company major plans because you know Tanahashi was figured strongly into G-1 and the build for next year’s Tokyo Dome show. Most likely he was scheduled to win the IC title at the Dominion show, and thus this would change all the long-term plans for that title which was likely to headline one of the two Long Beach shows and several of the PPV shows later in the year.

> Right now the plan is for Tanahashi to be out this tour, but he may still return for Dominion and Long Beach rather than get surgery. Tanahashi had suffered a partial biceps tear in early 2016 when he had his shoulder injury and missed some time, notably missing his scheduled ladder match with Kenny Omega that opened the door for Michael Elgin to step in. Tama Tonga worked the last tour after a partial tear. A full tear would either require surgery, keeping him out for six to eight months, or rehab, which would have him out a shorter period of time, but would leave him with a big space in his arm.

> A press conference will be held on 5/18 in Los Angeles for the Long Beach shows. One of the things that will be announced is the TV schedule for the shows. The 7/1 show is scheduled to run live on a Saturday night and the 7/2 show (which will go head-to-head with TNA’s Slammiversary show) will air on AXS on 7/8, or head-to-head with UFC on FS 1.

In the latest twist in the Matt and Jeff Hardy vs. Impact Wrestling situation over the ownership of the "Broken" gimmick used by the Hardy family in Impact Wrestling before leaving at the onset of 2017, which have been called into question, complete with Matt Hardy filing a copyright on the "Broken Matt Hardy" name, followed by Impact Wrestling filing a number of trademarks on names related to the "Broken" gimmick and characters, Anthem Media's Ed Nordholm contacted PWInsider.com this evening, releasing the following statement, which PWInsider.com has not edited in any way:

Good afternoon,

In response to on-going speculation concerning our position with respect to the “Broken Brilliance” creative, I am providing this detailed log of our communications on the subject and the contractual structure of our relationship with Matt Hardy with respect to intellectual property matters (which is standard to our roster and in the industry).

There has never been any argument from Impact Wrestling that the Hardy’s were key contributors to the development of the characters and story line, or that Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy executed on their roles in spectacular fashion. But the position taken by the Hardys is a massive disservice to the contributions of the rest of the creative team at Impact Wrestling, including Jeremy Borash, Dave Lagano (sic), Matt Conway and Billy Corgan, and is totally at odds with the terms of their contracts.

The Hardys would have you believe that Anthem is somehow avoiding their lawyers to address this. This is the log of our communications with the Hardys and/or their lawyers. It is clear that we have not been avoiding them.

March 10 – EBN speaks with executives at ROH about “Broken Brilliance” being used in ROH shows. I indicated willingness to provide an arrangement that would allow the creative to be used in ROH shows and encouraged ROH to have Matt speak with me if he wanted to pursue that discussion
March 11 – EBN spoke at length with Matt by telephone about the structure of an amicable arrangement for use of the Broken Brilliance creative
March 14 – Matt sent text message to Ed Nordholm at 4:05pm:

>Women in bra/panties matches, blood, more hardcore stuff - this brings back male viewers
Most women already wrestle in a two piece anyways. Bra/Thong matches aren't a draw in the internet age. Blood, used sparingly, would honestly be good especially for to give good feuds that extra edge to really push them over.
>option 2 more women
Well, they are doing that women's tourney...

At the end of the day, what's getting over in wrestling whether it's the UK, Japan, American indies, is – big surprise – good wrestling. Maybe they should just try that and let the guys ad lib more instead of having road agents plan everyone's matches and shit sitcom writer's writing everything everyone says.

There's a subtle way to tell if a wrestler is juicing.
They're a wrestler.

Remember signature pharmacy? It was a random hodgepodge of guys, not just the Valientes of the WWE.

Ding ding ding we have a winner. No one would complain if every one was juicing but if it's just one guy and they but belt on him so quickly. Whole dieting thing doesn't help.

What's the opinion on Hive's 1994 and 1995 mods?
Beef Wellington - Tue, 23 May 2017 20:34:44 EST ID:ZHYT+nYM No.5745363 Ignore Report Quick Reply
They're fine. Probably the best RW mod out there is Mammoth's 1970 mod because everything was done by one person for TEW 2016, rather than the cobbled-together and patched-up mods you see elsewhere. Unfortunately, I never saw any of the wrestling that it represents so I don't feel a connection to it.

Someone has promised to do the same "from scratch" routine with 1989 and I have high hopes - but it probably won't be out until 2020.

Sounds about right. Thinking of doing a 1995 save where I get Benoit, Jericho and Austin. Benoit will be pushed as DiBiase's big prospect, Austin under a toned down version of his ECW character although he'll go Stone Cold eventually, while Jericho will tag with some young guy... maybe Owen turns face and takes him under his wing so they can win tag gold ;_;.

Not sure what PROGRESS are doing with this. Where the hell is WALTER??

Banks has had a ton of momentum lately and could legit become champion if they keep booking him right, really hope he wins against Havoc. Although Havoc has been booked like pretty much the #1 guy since his return, he went through everybody to reach Dunne and only lost due to interference.

I'm gonna be so sad if Gibson goes out in round 1 for Sexsmith. I actually like Jack unlike many on here, but Gibson is so woefully underrated by PROGRESS and every other company that's not booking him in the world. He's the most over heel on the roster, he's a good wrestler, he's really good on the mic and he has a good look. He should be winning the world title in Manchester and celebrating in front of a Mancunian crowd whilst You'll Never Walk Alone plays
