RAW: Roman Reigns, Rowdy Ronda Rousey and Rollins rev up to rule red RAW rightly by Celt !BzcOsK03.w - Mon, 20 Aug 2018 15:38:51 EST ID:iwpW6SMX No.6126824 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

>Watch WWE RAW: The Roman Era with /wooo/ in /wooo/tube - http://taima.tv/r/wooo and /wooo/alt - http://taima.tv/r/woooalt at 8pm Eastern//1am London.
>Before Raw, watch This Week in WWE at 7:30pm EDT / 12:30am BST in /wooo/alt: "It's the final countdown to SummerSlam! Who's walking into Brooklyn with momentum? And who might not be walking out at all?"
>After Raw, watch WWE Photo Shoot and WWE Music Power 10 in both tubes: "The Nature Boy and The Queen discuss Ric Flair's iconic career, legendary opponents, and memorable moments they have shared together in WWE!; The WWE Music Power 10 is back with an all-new July 2018 edition counting down the most spectacular Superstar entrances and performances!"

On tonight's show:

>The Roman Empire grows
Since 2015, Roman Reigns just wasn't able to conquer The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. With their rivalry at WrestleMania and post-WrestleMania seeing Lesnar retain the Universal title, fans got sick and tired of seeing him as the part-time champion. Reigns bore a huge brunt and the pressure was on him to finally become Universal Champion. Braun Strowman threatened to cash-in on whoever won and The Beast Incarnate desperately tried to take him out. With Lesnar distracted by Strowman, Reigns was able to pin him and finally capture the Univeral Championship. With Reigns now the full-time champion that he promised to be, he's determined to continue his legacy. With Strowman looming as the biggest threat to his title reign and the entire locker room targetting him, how will The Big Dog carry the weight as champion?

>The RAW Women's division is about to get Rowdy
Ronda Rousey was finally able to get her hands on Alexa Bliss after two months of waiting and she put her away in relative ease, capturing the RAW Women's Championship. After conquering a 5-time champion with such ease, Rousey has undoubtedly proven herself to be the biggest threat on the RAW Women's division. However, with the title now in her grasp, she's become the biggest target in the women's division. With a roster filled with hungry talent ready for competition, the Rowdy champion isn't going to be in for an easy reign. But what will Alexa Bliss have to say after being demolished by the "overhyped rookie"?

>Is Finn Balor in line for a career resurgence?
Heading into SummerSlam, Baron Corbin and Finn Balor were tied at 1-1. Neither superstar had much momentum on their side, but all of that changed when Balor came brought out Demon Balor after 10 months. It was a big shock to the WWE Universe and most definitely to Constable Corbin himself. In a matter of 95 seconds, Finn Balor crushed Corbin and derailed any momentum he had. However, one man's pain is another man's gain, and this could very well be the start of a huge career resurgence for Finn Balor. We're yet to see.

>Seth Rollins' Intercontinental Title Victory Fallout
Dean Ambrose proved to be an effective cornerman as he evened the odds that Drew McIntyre brought to the table. With his friend being the neutralizer, Rollins was able to successfully capture the Intercontinental Championship for the second time. While Ziggler and McIntyre won't be quiet about what happened, the bigger matter that not many people seemed to notice was the look that Ambrose had in his eyes. Looming behind Rollins after his title win, many speculated that he would attack his friend from behind. While it's early to judge, you never know what you're going to get with The Lunatic. The Intercontinental Championship picture is going to be a whole lot more interesting.

>The B-Team continue to build momentum
The B-Team has been undefeated since defecting from The Miz. Their momentum and a whole lot of luck has carried them to tag team gold, and at Summer…

Interesting to note that in Mexico, MMA fighters are also referred to as luchadores. (yes, I know the word means "fighter" anyways, but but they use the same word. We do not)

Is a bitter old prick that hates seeing the good guys win?
Consider two of Vince's famous quotes
>"Life sucks, and then you die."
>"In this business you've got to like the taste of shit."

Vince has a fatalistic outlook. In general I believe he hates seeing people with a positive outlook and good natured personality coming out on top. Rather, he wants to see these people be corrupted and betray themselves in order to get ahead. Because this is what he feels like the natural order of the world is really like. This is the overall subtext to most main roster WWE programming going back years and years. Vince specifically called it "Ruthless Aggression" many years ago. And some years before that he said WWE not about "Good guy vs Bad Guy".

But just how rare is it in the WWE for the good guy to just win? Incredibly so, I would say. Count on two hands in the last ten years number of instances where the good person just trains hard, believes in themselves, and beats the bad guy and that's the end of the story.

Consider three stories from SummerSlam tonight. The first is Becky Lynch. I firmly believe that Vince McMahon wants to puke when he sees characters like Becky. Characters that believe in the good of the world and think that through hard work and perseverance they can achieve their dreams. Well how has Becky been treated? Like shit. Over and over. Humiliated. But now it looks like she might actually win a title again come Evolution. How? By betraying who she is, and turning on her friend Charlotte. By showing that ruthless aggression. This is Vince's ethos.

The 2nd story would be Roman Reigns. How long has Roman chased the title by now? How much has Roman cared about beating Brock? Beating him legitimately, I might add. Roman wants to prove to everyone he is better than Brock, and Brock only won because of a technicality. That is a noble thing to pursue. But tonight Roman wins not through his own hard work but through lucky circumstance of Braun interfering in the match. Roman absolutely cannot win because he worked hard. There must be some asterisk to it.

The last story is that of Ronda Rousey. She is …

I didn't mean just wrestling talent - business and marketing execs, producers from other brands, writing teams from the comedy world and Hollywood. But yeah, lack of any real competition doesn't help his "SUPERIOR BUSINESSMENZ" complex that he seems to have.

Why were people so excited for this match and feud? It was hyped on here like it should be a Wrestlemania main event. It was a good feud for Bryan back in the NXT days, but it wasn't worth revisiting.

>T-Hawk fucked off to China. RIP

THE STUFF IN THE TUBES:
>Puro Tube is on Tuesdays at 3pm EST / 8pm GMT in /wooo/tube - http://taima.tv/r/wooo and shows promotions outside of Dragon Gate, NOAH and current NJPW. Join in as everyone argues why their favorite fed is superior and Yanopost, Anopost, CIMApost and dance like Keita until your tummy is full from all that snackpine.
>DG Tube is on Thursdays at 8pm EST / 1am GMT in Mondai Night Ryu - http://taima.tv/r/mondainightryu and features the latest and classic Dragon Gate shows. Other stuff is featured here from time to time as well. (like cheesy 80s films or the mega marathon before Kobe World and recently OWE)
>NJPW on AXS TV is also on Thursdays at 10:50pm EST / 3:50am GMT (10:20pm EST / 2:30am GMT if Impact! is uploaded) in /wooo/tube and /wooo/alt - http://taima.tv/r/woooalt showing recent matches on tape delay with English commentary by Jim Ross and Josh Barnett. Replays air on Fridays at 11:45am EST / 4:45pm GMT in /wooo/tube.

Outside of Puro Tube, there's usually a few puro marks in the chat that can help fill you in on storylines and find you matches. Just show up outside of big shows like Raw, and you'll find someone in there to help you out. Puro matches also show up in the playlist, so scroll around to find them. NJPW, DG, and DDT live events are regularly streamed in the tubes, check the schedule for details.

>THE MAJOR FEDS:

NJPW: Oldest and largest promotion in Japan. Owned by Bushiroad and is booked by Gedo. His booking gets the tubes riled up sometimes (all the time), but the match quality generally makes up for it. In the midst of something of a revival, and although you may argue that it is already drawing to a close, they are still doing good business at the moment. They run one of the largest shows in wrestling, called Wrestle Kingdom, every year on January 4th at the fabled Tokyo Dome. Most every show they run, large and small, air in the tubes. They have a slew of foreign wrestlers on their roster right now. They also have a wonderful streaming website over at http://njpwworld.com/

Dragon Gate: Almost certainly the second largest promotion in Japan. Born out of the Toryumon promotion, which was the brainchild of Ultimo Dragon, their style is a mixture of classic puro, cruiserweight/junior heavyweight sprints, and lucha libre. Stable warfare is a huge part of the promotion, with most every wrestler in the company being aligned with a unit in some way. Though it is a big promotion, they retain a grassroots feel, with wrestlers selling merch before and after shows, and running many shows out of community centers and gyms. Most of their large shows air in the tubes, and footage is also posted here. They also have a show that is filmed monthly in their little studio in Kobe called Prime Zone which is wacky, fun, and full of Mondai Ryu schemes. They recently joined the streaming bandwagon over at https://dragongate.live

After months of controversy, chaos and conflict, Roman Reigns will get what he has been craving — another opportunity to dethrone his greatest rival Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. After he defeated Bobby Lashley on the July 23 episode of Raw, The Big Dog earned the right to get another crack at The Beast and his Universal Title. Of course, Lesnar and Reigns’ rivalry dates all the way back to WrestleMania 31 in 2015, and the two recently collided in unforgettable contests at this year’s WrestleMania and a Steel Cage Match at The Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia in April. The Steel Cage Match was shrouded in controversy because the replay seems to clearly show that Reigns’ feet hit the floor before Lesnar’s in the match’s closing moments, but Brock was awarded the victory. The infuriated Big Dog has been calling himself the “uncrowned Universal Champion” and vigorously campaigning for another opportunity ever since. However, The Anomaly’s contract status with WWE has taken several twists and turns, and he showed up in the UFC Octagon several weeks ago, so Reigns has been unable to get close to Lesnar, much less get another title match… until now. With his victory over Lashley, Reigns has secured another chance to take down The Beast and claim the Universal Title. Will The Big Dog’s personal and growing vendetta against Lesnar be a help or hindrance as they approach this title clash at The Biggest Event of the Summer? And with The Beast’s recent contract entanglements and potential UFC return looming, will he be focused squarely and solely on once again conquering Reigns?

The heat of summer will turn positively explosive when The Baddest Woman on the Planet sets her sights on Five Feet of Fury and the Raw Women’s Championship. Some might say that the conflict between Alexa Bliss and Ronda Rousey began back in January when the debuting Rousey seized the spotlight just moments after the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match to stare down the victorious Asuka, as well as The Goddess of WWE and then-SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. Any unspoken animosity came to a head at WWE Money in the Bank when Little Miss Bliss interrupted Rousey’s first title opportunity against Nia Jax, attacking both Superstars and causing the match to be thrown out before cashing in her contract on The Irresistible Force to become a five-time Women’s Champion. After Bliss continued to antagonize Rousey the next night on Raw, the already-seething Baddest Woman on the Planet attacked the newly-crowned titleholder, but she made the mistake of putting her hands on Raw General Manager Kurt Angle and a slew of WWE officials. Although Ronda’s transgressions earned her a 30-day suspension from the red brand, that didn’t stop her from buying a front-row ticket to WWE Extreme Rules and turning the title bout upside-down when Bliss and her friend Mickie James incorporated various underhanded tactics during Alexa’s Extreme Rules Match against Jax. The following night, Angle announced the highly-anticipated showdown between Bliss and Rousey for The Biggest Event of the Summer, and the title fight promises to be extraordinary from start to finish. Rousey is a truly fierce competitor who has defied every expectation while completely adapting herself to WWE’s style and is now poised for greatness. Alexa Bliss is a Superstar who knows how to win at all costs and refuses to take a back seat to anyone. Who will emerge victorious in SummerSlam’s incredible Raw Women’s Championship Match?

Samoa Joe has set his destructive sights on the WWE Championship, a path will put him on a collision course with none other than AJ Styles at SummerSlam. Fresh off his recent title defenses against Rusev at WWE Extreme Rules and Shinsuke Nakamura in a savage Last Man Standing Match at WWE Money in the Bank, The Phenomenal One continues to ride high as one of the greatest Superstars the squared circle has to offer. Whether he can maintain the structural integrity of “The House that AJ Styles Built” against such a force of pure annihilation remains to be seen. Joe sent a clear message that he will be taking no prisoners when he attacked Styles from behind, just seconds before signing the contract for the championship bout. The Phenomenal titleholder will need to use every bit of his incredible arsenal to repel his brutal no-nonsense challenger. These three huge matches are more tonight at SummerSlam! Here's the lineup for the show:

>PPV

*WWE Universal Championship Match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns
*WWE Raw Women's Championship Match: Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey
*WWE Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe

It happens in NJPW, at least to some extent. I believe ti was AJ/Nakamura where the whole story was "AJ is killing everyone with Styles Clash, so this is the first and only thing he will try to hit the whole match". Same with people holds as their finishers, they usually work over some part of a body to set it up.

THE DIRT SHEET THREAD: THE LATEST FROM MELTZER AND MORE (17TH AUGUST '18) by Nova - Thu, 16 Aug 2018 20:08:40 EST ID:FO9lKfKL No.6123699 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

The first few posts are from this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter. For the full newsletter and much more get a subscription at http://www.f4wonline.com/
Dave Meltzer's star ratings will also be posted in this thread should there be any.
Wrestling Observer Live airs Monday to Friday at 3pm EDT / 8pm BST and Sunday at 6pm EDT / 11pm BST in http://taima.tv/r/wooo2
Use this thread to post news as it comes through. Do not use the old thread for anything new, try and move discussion to here instead.

> The Ring of Honor/New Japan Pro Wrestling show on 4/6 in Madison Square Garden sold out on 8/10 less than 19 minutes after the public on-sale began. Of course, they had already sold 12,000 of the 15,000 seats put on sale, with the first 9,000 going to Honor Club subscribers on 8/8, and another 3,000 going to those with codes that weren’t hard to get, and in fact were tweeted out.The significance of this could be monumental in ways that are obvious and other ways perhaps less obvious. While ROH officials would not release a gate number, it was confirmed to be well in excess of $1 million, making it the largest gate for a non-WWE pro wrestling gate not only in the United States, but likely anywhere in the world except for the Far East.

> The previous largest gate for a non-WWE show in North America was $1 million, set on September 11, 2014, for the Atlantis vs. Ultimo Guerrero mask vs. mask mach at Arena Mexico. The largest ever in the United States was $930,735 set on January 4, 1999, for an episode of Nitro at the Georgia Dome. The Hulk Hogan vs. Bill Goldberg gate at the Georgia Dome months earlier was $906,330. It is possible this would be the second largest gate ever for a pro wrestling show in Madison Square Garden for wrestling, trailing WrestleMania 20 that did $2,401,000. It was the fastest sellout since WrestleMania 20 in Madison Square Garden, and second fastest of all-time. It sold out farther in advance than any pro wrestling event at the Garden. And it was the first Madison Square Garden sellout for pro wrestling since 2015.

> We’re told that NXT should sell out, or at worst, come close. SummerSlam sold out instantly, of course with 6,000 secondary market tickets. Raw is looking at 11,500 to 12,000 right now and Smackdown at 9,500 to 10,000. The secondary market is soft except for SummerSlam, as the price for entry is $28 for Takeover, $90 for SummerSlam, $30 for Raw and $20 for Smackdown.

> I ended up being in the eye of the storm this week based on comments that I made on Wrestling Observer Radio last week. For those who defended me, thanks. But I was wrong the way I worded things. Yes, things were taken out of context and the meaning espoused to what I said wasn’t what I meant. Even saying that, I was still wrong and apologized, actually immediately for it, to Peyton Royce. It was sincere. I knew the fact I apologized and sincerely felt bad wasn’t going to matter. And I know many felt I made a big mistake in doing so. But this was not a political decision, it was a decision based on my own feeling of right and wrong, and I was wrong.

> It’s a very tricky issue because I hate objectifying women or men based on looks while covering a business that is so heavily based on looks and bodies and where judgments are made. It’s really difficult because this is a business where cosmetic look plays a gigantic factor in who gets pushed and who doesn’t. It’s the nature of the entertainment business. To ignore that fact would really be not doing a part of my job. But others do the same job and I’ve been lucky enough to be a major player, and thus under a heavier microscope. But I still shouldn’t have said what I said. It is a difficult balancing act to be honest in analysis, but that’s not an excuse. We all make mistakes and all you can do is learn from them. I’ve learned from this one. It won’t happen again.

This is how /wooo/ always used to be, back in the day there were generals for indies, puro and women's wrestling and they rarely ever got threads outside of that. Mods used to have to encourage the creation of non-WWE threads when people like you complained about this basically being a WWE board. It's only in the last 2 or 3 years that /wooo/ started to branch out in thread creation.

I'd thoroughly disagree with that, I'd said that in the last while the creation of generals have really stiffled conversation here. Used to be you would get threads about all sorts but got to the point where if you posted a thread about your favourite lucha brawls or the like it got a "go back to your containment thread" sort of reaction.

No it was the opposite actually.

/wooo/ used to have a great board culture because even if you didn't watch all the indies or puro, you knew what was going on because there were threads about the news and stuff

Now the generalsare just dead zones of conversation because unless you have a specific interest, and even then you can't be bothered clicking a 400+posts thread that's three months old just incase there might be something.

generals work when a) the users make them not the mods and B) for FAST moving discussion. It doesn't work when they are just dumping grounds for news and take months to cycle.

And this is coupled with the fact that the mods expressly forbid anyone from making a WWE general when it's the one promotion that needs one because...well I still don't really know why, but the effect on the board is that WWE swamps everything and even if you don't watch it you can't escape it.

I know they were done with good intentions, but I really wish we would stop the generals.

OTT Wrestling's World Title, out of Dublin Ireland.
Added that one to his collection last night, in very precise and dominant fashion. Devlin gave him a hell of a fight, best David vs Goliath type match I've seen Walter have since I started watching him. Highly recommend checking out on their VOD channel when it goes up during the week.

As of August 18th, Primo has been on the main roster for 10 years. He had a short run as tag champ with Carlito that was good, but other than that he hasn't done shit.

Is there another wrestler that's lasted over 10 years in a single promotion that's accomplished less?

Happy 10 years with the company Primo!
