>Yes, I know Gabe and he knows me. Here's some facts about Gabe.
>Gabe and Sal are not getting along now. The lawsuit is tearing them apart. Gabe wants out. #Fact
>The End video is one of Gabe's stupid angles that won't get over, but it's also a way for him to leave evolve and wwn.
>Gabe is the cheapest promoter out there. Pay the boys! Stop treating them like they are marks for you.
>Here's a scoop. Sal & Gabe are having major arguments over how to stream evolve now. It being back to old model shows Sal is winning.
>Also there are barely any match announcements for this weekend because gabe has checked out on evolve and was at nxt all last week.
>Here's a scoop. WWN is canceling shows. FIP was supposed to run on 10/22. It was quietly canceled. Gabe wants no part of FIP now.
>The boys don't appreciate having dates canceled on them @BookItGabe
>We are all clear that Gabe is indeed just about done. Can't wait to be out of the indies. The End stuff is his exit #spoiler
>Here's a scoop. Sal is fighting with Gabe about social media. Look for Stokely to take a larger role so Gabe stops being an ass on it.
>Here's a scoop. Mikey Webb and Brandon Watts are 2 of the workers who will debut this weekend in evolve
>Well, I already knew Gabe was at NXT last week. He was also at house shows last week. He's on his way out of WWN.
>The End angle is Gabe's way of leaving WWN while trying to keep indie cred. His ego demands he be the babyface and not a sellout

/wooo/ is fairly open-minded these days to non-WWE wrestling. NJPW is doing fantastic numbers. The Dragon Gate boys on here continue to impress me with their dedication to the promotion. In-fighting aside, /Joshi/ do in fact watch all the shows and knows what's going on. The few TNA fans we still have still soldier on, veterans who can take any blow wrestling has to offer. Wednesday nights see a gang of Lucha boys descend on here who sort your Atlantis and Negro Casas from your Misticos.

So it speaks volumes that EVOLVE has like zero buzz here. Like, if EVOLVE had traction at all, wouldn't it be showing up here much more?

Years and years we did actually use to steam EVOLVE/WWN shows, but WWN made sure to shut them down. What was the result? We said cool, we just won't watch WNN then, and we all moved onto other promotions. And some people might hear that and get mad. But when I see the merch threads, I always see people posting merch from the smallest little promotions they follow consistently. The hardcore doesn't have a problem with the obscurity (provided the design isn't retarded). So money is made off those views.

I just have no idea what the game plan for EVOLVE is supposed to be now that the streaming thing fell apart. They really needed that Flo Sports deal and it fell apart in a lot of places.

Like I just don't see any particular or unique appeal to EVOLVE. Every indie these days is a "super-indie" that has a host of stars. Like what sets it apart?

I'm rambling a bit here/thinking out loud. But you get the thrust of what I'm saying. Other than shipping guys to NXT, what is the purpose of this place?

It's really too bad because from an in-ring standpoint EVOLVE has been one of the better US indy products for a while now but fuck what a mess

At this point all I ask is that if the whole thing implodes someone with some notoriety picks up Fred Yehi and Darby Allin

i'm really kind of surprised that gabe got away with being so cheap about his wrestling ring, that it became a safety hazard that hurt peter kaasa and ended his career. And then Gabe did nothing to help him with medical bills.

>So it speaks volumes that EVOLVE has like zero buzz here. Like, if EVOLVE had traction at all, wouldn't it be showing up here much more?

The in-ring stuff is usually good but it’s just the presentation and stuff that makes it boring compared to places like PWG and PROGRESS.

>Years and years we did actually use to steam EVOLVE/WWN shows, but WWN made sure to shut them down. What was the result? We said cool, we just won't watch WNN then, and we all moved onto other promotions. And some people might hear that and get mad.

And we tried again this year on Floslam but my account got shut down since they were using the same sort of tech to see if it was being streamed somewhere else. I understand why they do it and while it sucked not being able to stream shows from
there anymore, like you said we moved on to other promotions. Besides there’s much better indie streaming sites these days like Powerbomb.tv, Highspots, FITE, and even Twitch.

I like it. Might even call it the best indie going.
I'm just somewhat reserved in my fandom & haven't actually paid for indies in years.
And yeah even when I did I relied on pirated samples first so Gabe's draconian stance on piracy made DGUSA the one indie I didn't get into.
>Like I just don't see any particular or unique appeal to EVOLVE. Every indie these days is a "super-indie" that has a host of stars. Like what sets it apart?
I have a dentists appointment in like 5 hours & haven't slept yet but I think the LEGIT SPORTING ATMOSPHERE GRRRRR thing actually paid off in the long run. It felt cringey & satirical in the early shows I've seen when Gargano and AR Fox and Chuck fucking Taylor were meant to represent it, but once the age of the grapplefuck dawned with Catch Point & Top Champ Tim & ZSJ becoming a regular it really gelled. S'been refreshing seeing these guys go out & get matches over with straight-forward no-frills technique & intensity. The fact that Tracy Williams isn't a year into PWG bookings confounds me, the recent realization that I'm apparently the only one to think so fucking disgusts me TBQFH. Writing this I'm wondering more & more if I should've just bought the damn shows. But then I realize ~6 extra DVD sales a year wouldn't have stopped this shitstorm.

It's weird. I don't even consider myself a Gabe fan. The Punk/Joe shoot, fallout from the ROH firing, his own commentary, I've known for ages that he's immensely imperfect. Yet I can't feel mad about him for any of this. He's been so depressing to think about ever since I first learnt his name, I'd be every bit as cynical & scroungy. It's like his survival mechanism. Like, I never understood how he has kids. How the FUCK do you make enough money as a superindie wrestling promoter (one who keeps having to START-UP NEW SUPERINDIES no less) to support kids? When this news all broke a week or two ago & someone posted the transcript of his podcast call I read the "I've chased this WWE job for 25 years don't screw it up for me" line and felt so unbelievably sorry for him. He's fucking pitiable. I think he knows how increasingly despicable he's been acting and doesn't care, because the ends justify the means & the end's closer than ever. He could get pelted with garbage at the next show & would take it, because what's one more humiliation when you've already reached the promised land?

Fuck you know what Gabe is?

He's Tommy Dreamer's What If. As predicted by Paul Heyman.

Had ECW continued Dreamer wanted to turn heel. Heyman says he'd never have let it happen, because as soon as Dreamer's martyrdom tipped over into bitterness his fundamental appeal would be irrevocably lost.

Gabe's the martyr who tipped over into bitterness. He suffered through 1.5 decades for wrestling fans' enjoyment & is all out of empathy. So now he's burning up all that goodwill as fuel for his own personal interests. That he owes just as much if-not-more to Paul & ECW than Tommy just adds to the poetry. Why are all the best wrestling stories on the wrong side of the curtain?

>Had ECW continued Dreamer wanted to turn heel. Heyman says he'd never have let it happen, because as soon as Dreamer's martyrdom tipped over into bitterness his fundamental appeal would be irrevocably lost.

RIP Generico/Sami Sayn. A babyface for 15 fucking years before WWE came along.

We're sidebar'ing hard here, but Heyman was completely right: A heel Dreamer would be an utter disaster, because he became the ONE surefire guy the ECW audience could depend on to the right, moral thing, even if that meant Tommy suffered in the short term. Dreamer is the everyman who puts friends, family, country etc before himself. He is the Rock upon which all other good things are built. If he goes bad, the entire thing collapses. Dreamer going heel would be like ECW itself going heel. Tommy took years to EARN that spot as heart of ECW, you can't just put that into reverse gear. It was a similar situation with Terry Funk in ECW. It was impossible for Terry to be heel in ECW; he was both on screen and off screen father figure to most of the wrestlers, and well to the audience as well.

And while Sami Zayn was never that central character on the main roster, it's still terrible WWE had to turn him. Because he WAS that central character in NXT, and he was that moral bedrock. Dusty recognised that, that's why told a great morality story in the Zayn/Neville feud. They went as far as to call Sami "The Heart of NXT" and "The moral compass of NXT".

Galling, just galling stuff. There's certain guys like Ricky Steamboat or Rey Mysterio that were just meant to be one alignment guys. And the long er they stay that one alignment, the more the audience respects them for it. Sami seems like one of those guys.

Look, I HOPE I'M WRONG. Maybe Heel Zayn will be fucking amazing. Maybe WWE has a different dynamic to everywhere else. Maybe wrestling has radically changed. I hope I'm wrong and this creates great TV. But there's a precedent for Sami's particular archetype and they're shaving against the grain, so I'm worried.

This 100%.

A problem a lot of "super-indies" have is a lack of identity. EVOLVE being the worst example. I've been to EVOLVE shows in the past and I can't for the life of me remember much about them. A few matches sure but not much else. But if you ask me to remember the CZW show I went to on mania weekend or an ROH show I went to back when Tyler Black was champ I can totally do that. Both those companies have clear identities (well, ROH did once).

PWG somehow evades this by being and feeling like the Marvel Vs Capcom of pro wrestling but EVOLVE has always just kinda felt like a revolving door of guys without any of the hype PWG manages to pull off.

My favorite indy is actually CZW these days since it still feels like its own thing, even if they have toned down the ultraviolence. They have regulars on the roster who consistently interact with one another. And even they bring in special attractions once in a while but it never feels like they're there to be the major story. Odds are if you're winning the CZW belt, you are/were a regular. It's one of the reasons I was shocked at Davey Richards winning it for a hot minute a few months back; it took me completely off guard but in a good way, and they used it to get the belt on Strickland.

Of CZW's last 10 champions, with the exception of Richards, all were CZW regulars. Comparatively, of all 5 EVOLVE champions Thatcher is the only one who feels like an EVOLVE regular.

PWG gets its identity by always running the same building. When you see a clip from PWG, you know it's PWG because of the building. When I see an evolve clip, I probably don't know it's evolve unless I see the ring canvas.
