> With Lesnar being all over the sports world for the angle with Cormier, it was shocking that the angle, nor Lesnar at all, were mentioned on the 7/9 Raw show. That was, as everything is, a directive straight from Vince McMahon. It appears McMahon is adamant in creating the idea that Lesnar has walked out, is going to UFC, turned his back on the WWE fans, and isn’t coming back to drop the title and holding up the belt. The idea would seem to be to create a storyline that gets Reigns cheered at the Barclays Center. This storyline has, in fact, gotten Lesnar more hate, but also made him less over. Perhaps being big in UFC plans and in the mainstream news again will reverse that a little. It also hasn’t gotten Reigns cheered. But everything that is taking place as far as the pro wrestling end is being dictated by McMahon, and not Lesnar, who is under contract at least through the end of August.

> From the outside, it appeared the idea to not mention Lesnar, his angle with Cormier, and that Reigns and Lashley are fighting to take his title, on the show is not taking advantage of something hot in the real world. At the production meeting before Raw, McMahon told everyone that the show in Boston is to focus completely on building Extreme Rules, a show Lesnar isn’t on, so his name wasn’t to be mentioned. Reigns, in a promo late in the show, went in a direction where his name should have been mentioned, and then didn’t. McMahon said that they will start talking about Lesnar “When he’s being offered to our audience and we can capitalize on it.”

> With the high ticket prices, this weekend's NJPW show was almost surely the largest or second largest gate ever at the Cow Palace, as the old record gate was set with 9,000 paid and 11,000 total but lower ticket prices for the 2004 No Way Out PPV where Eddy Guerrero beat Brock Lesnar to win the WWE title. WWE continued to run the Cow Palace as a regular rotation arena through 2012, and only hit 7,000 fans, roughly the same as this show, once since then.

> According to the story, the feeling from the FOX side is the signing of Smackdown guarantees them good Friday night ratings for five years. We’ve spoken to some in television who question that, citing the numbers have fallen this year and Tuesday is a much better night to draw. They will do significantly better than they do now, simply because the move from cable to network makes the show available in 20 million more homes and it’s on a station with a much larger base audience. That should more than offset the losses of moving to Friday. The hope is solid 3 million to 3.5 million viewers. Whether that’s doable at first is a question, and at that point the key is whether, if numbers across the board continue to fall, if Smackdown falls at a slower or a larger rate than television at large. The belief is that with it being live, the drops over the five years will be smaller, and thus from a competition standpoint, it becomes more valuable.

> Even though this is the best long-term attendance run for CMLL maybe dating back to the heyday of the original Mistico, there are a lot of issues. The talent at Arena Mexico get paid based on the gate and the gates have been the best in years, but there are still some openly complaining about the outsiders on top and promoting them rather than focusing on the guys who will be there every week. There’s also not a lot of direction as the talent is basically told finishes and then to work out their matches, which is why guys shoot their own angles in matches whether it’s an attempt to steal the spotlight or create their own new angle.

> Crash and CMLL have apparently come to a working agreement since Crash has teased working upcoming shows with both CMLL and Progress. They have a 7/14 show in Tijuana and more information may be out then.

> There are a couple of interesting notes regarding NJPW viewership on AXS. About 40 percent of viewership is DVR viewing, which makes sense because it’s not live. By the way, they are very much hoping to get closer to live in 2019 although with the time zone issue I don’t think it’ll ever be live, except maybe in a year with a weekend Tokyo Dome show. Also, apparently the junior heavyweight title matches do really well. The 1/4 Tokyo Dome is still the biggest drawing show and the credit is given to Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega as the biggest drawing match, which shouldn’t be a surprise since I’ve never seen a match in Japan ever garner the amount of interest that match did in the U.S.

> GLOW season two on Netflix has been a huge success. On the first three days the show was put up (6/29 to 7/1), the season averaged 700,000 viewers in the U.S. per episode, and 86 percent were between 18 and 49, the highest concentration of 18-49 viewers of any original streaming content on Netflix that Nielsen has analyzed. It also had viewership where the mean (meaning half above and half below) family income was $80,200 per year, the third highest of any Netflix series behind only “The Crown” and “House of Cards.” This is the opposite of the actual pro wrestling audience, although GLOW is not a pro wrestling but is considered by many one of the best television/streaming shows there is with the backdrop of the characters being woman wrestlers. Season two is said to be similar to season one, which several publications called one of the best television shows of 2017. Kia Stevens (Awesome Kong in TNA), a regular cast member, got great reviews for her work this season.

> When talking about buildings that ROH or nobody but WWE can get, it appears the Staples Center in Los Angeles is another one. Cody noted this past week that he had tried to talk with them about hosting All In and was pretty much told that they weren’t interested in any wrestling that wasn’t WWE.

> Lavie Margolan wrote a story on ROH’s attendance over the first six months of the year. Obviously they are on track for the biggest year of their history. Currently they are averaging 1,412 per show, an increase of 28 percent from last year’s 1,105. For the first six months of 2016, they averaged 928, 2015 averaged 988, 2014 averaged 830 and 2012 averaged 641. Most of the increase was due to the record setting Supercard of Honor that did 5,789 fans paid. Total attendance as opposed to average attendance was up 34 percent, from 24,307 to 32,484.

> Tessa Blanchard signed what was reported as a long-term deal with Impact. The term is for two years.

> Joe DeFalco, the promoter of the Las Vegas based Future Stars of Wrestling, said that he would be promoting Impact TV tapings for three nights in November in Las Vegas. The plan right now is to tape about once a month, doing four to six shows over two or three days, and going to a new market every time out with the idea of it being fresher crowds. They could return to Orlando at some point but right now they have different markets booked for all television through November and Orlando is not on the list of cities.

> Ric Flair’s surgery on 7/9, which was to eliminate his need for a colostomy bag, was a success. It was a touchy operation. Flair has needed the bag since his near fatal series of organ issues that led to emergency surgery that saved his life. The surgery was to reverse his stoma. He had talked about the inconvenience of having the bag while traveling especially, and as well as limiting the working out he can do. Training is a really important thing to Flair, and once he regained his health, he became frustrated that the bag wouldn’t allow him to train at the level he felt he otherwise could have. After surgery he was awake, speaking to people and recognized everyone in the ring but sleepy and in pain from the surgery and medications. He’s expected to be released from the hospital at the end of the week and will be home resting for a few weeks before he plans on going back to work on the road.

> Dwayne Johnson, in doing media work for the promotion of “Skyscraper,” which comes out on 7/13, said that he won’t be running for President in 2020. He’s actually said previously that the earliest he would even consider it was 2024 because he had too much going on.

> While Rey Mysterio has not signed with WWE, the discussions are close enough that they’ve talked about what commitments he has and doesn’t have left. All In is obviously a key thing. For obvious reasons, because of the nature of the show, he wants to do it and for the same obvious reasons, they would rather he doesn’t do it. He also wants to drop his Crash heavyweight title, which right now is most likely to be to Bestia 666, since that’s the direction it looks like it’s going, if he signs.

> Fightful ran a story about a WWE production document that listed Heyman as being a traveling Raw writer, and helping put together the Reigns-Lashley face-to-face that started the show and the later Lashley interview segment. From what we are told, Heyman was in Boston, as the story stated, but he is not on the writing team. He was there to look over aspects of the Reigns-Lashley segments mentioned. Heyman being there to look over segments that lead to the Lesnar program makes sense since Heyman did the same for Goldberg when he was in the program with Lesnar, and produced every Goldberg segment and helped write every Goldberg interview. Lashley and Heyman were close dating back to WWE developmental. I don’t know how close they are now, if at all, but when Lashley was fighting in MMA, he always talked glowingly about Heyman

> Pro wrestling became part of the Glenn Jacobs Mayoral race this past week, since he’s been back on television so close to the election. Linda Haney, his Democratic opponent, said that at this crucial time in the election he should be talking to constituents. She made a point of saying she’s not going to criticize his profession, and said he’s just an entertainer out doing his job. But she said she would think that in the last month before the election, he’d be in town talking issues. “I was really stunned to find out he was still pursuing it. I thought it was in the past. I thought in this crucial time he’d want to be here and be with the people. Being an entertainer doesn’t make you a political figure. It may get you some votes, but I believe people want someone with common sense.” Jacobs said he’s scaled back his schedule and he’s only wrestling sporadically and it was no impact on the campaign. He said if he wins the race, and according to those in local politics, in Knoxville, the Republican (Jacobs) almost always wins. “After I am elected mayor, I’ll be mayor. I may still do a few special things. I’ve done it for 23 years now and have quite a history. It’ll always be part of my life, I think. The question is if I am taking it seriously, and of course I am.” Election Day is 8/2.

> There have been some changes made in the PPV schedule. The TLC show, which was scheduled for 10/21 in Boston, has been moved to 12/16 in San Jose. The San Jose show was originally the Clash of Champions PPV. WWE is still running Boston on 10/21 but with a loaded house show, billed as a Supershow meaning the top stars from both brands will be there, since it was a PPV day and only one city was booked for a show. It hasn’t been made clear what changed this. It could be that the October PPV will now be the Australia MCG Stadium show on 10/6, but not sure if that’s the case because that show will be airing at 4 a.m. Eastern time on a Saturday morning. As of right now, that’s the only PPV date on the schedule.

> Jim Ross & Paul O’Brien are working on a second biography, the sequel to his “Slobberknocker” book, which would cover 1999 to the present, which includes a ton of things including his being phased out of full-time announcing, his working for WWE and New Japan at the same time, and of course, the death of his wife. Speaking of Ross, the fact he wasn’t placed as an announcer for the Mae Young Classic (which he did last year) or the U.K. show (which he did the first time) seems to indicate he’s probably not going to be doing lead announcing much if any going forward for WWE.

> An estimated return date for Charlotte Flair at this point is three more weeks.

> Jordan should be returning as soon as they figure out a storyline for his return.

> Ambrose is supposed to return around the end of the summer

> Garza Jr. and Ultimo Ninja were both supposed to have started here already at the same time as Keith Lee and Io Shirai, but actually haven’t because visa issues have to be taken care of. But they should be starting soon

> We heard there was interest in Lacey Lane but not sure if it’s just as someone for the Mae Young Classic or for a developmental deal, but her name was being talked about

> The Lars Sullivan broken jaw that was reported is actually storyline. My guess is that they wanted to tell the story that he was so tough he broke his jaw early in the match with Aleister Black, kept going, and that’s an excuse for losing to protect the mystique, since it was his first loss sine they started pushing him. They are keeping him off shows for a while to sell the injury as legit.

> WWE has signed a deal for Raw to stream live in The Philippines on Fox+. Raw airs on that country’s version of Fox Sports at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, in prime time, on a 12-hour tape delay. This allows people to watch it live at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday morning.

> Fandango (Curtis Hussey, 36), suffered a torn left labrum (shoulder) and underwent surgery on 7/10. It looks like he’ll be out of action about six months.

> The reason the 1998 King of the Ring cracked the top 20 most-watched shows on the WWE Network last week was it being the 20th anniversary of the Hell in a Cell match with Undertaker vs. Mick Foley, which Foley was promoting during the week.

> Goldberg did an interview and said that nobody has contacted him about doing anything since his match with Lesnar. He said he was never asked about doing WrestleMania this year. He said he talked to Vince about the Hall of Fame, since he went on last and the place emptied out. He said it was a disservice to the people being inducted and it was a disservice to the fans at home. He said before fans wanted to be entertained at wrestling but now they want to dictate what happens. He said some fans are poison to the rest of the fans and said it’s not fair to the guys who bust their ass and are on the road away from their families trying to entertain the fans. He said he’s be interested to come back to face either Reigns or Undertaker, but that’s not up to him.

> Ziggler was on Lilian Garcia’s podcast and explained the origin of his name. He was called and told he was getting another chance after previous tries with the promotion as a cheerleader (Nicky of the Spirit Squad) and a caddy when Chavo Guerrero Jr. was doing a golfer gimmick went nowhere. They told him his name would be David Diggler. He made it clear he didn’t like the name. He was told he had 15 minutes to come up with a new name but you need a D in either the first or last name. So he came up with a D as Dolph from Dolph Lundgren, the actor, and a great grandfather named Rudolph. He then asked if he had to be called Diggler. Then when he got to TV his name was Dolph Ziggler. He said he went to Vince and said people wanted realism that Dolph Ziggler is a cartoon name and Vince said the name was different and people are going to remember the name and then he walked off. He said he figure.

> Another name we didn’t list in last week’s issue from the WWE tryouts was Australian wrestler Elliot Sexton

> Mickie James is performing in concert on 7/21 in Macon, GA as part of the Bad Boys of Rock-A-Thon

> The reason The Miz doesn’t have anything planned for Extreme Rules is that he will be appearing as part of the All-Star Celebrity softball game that day, which will air on tape delay on ESPN as part of the Major League Baseball All-Star week festivities.

> Both Wyatt and Fox returned to action at the house shows this weekend. Wyatt was cleared from his injuries in an auto accident and Fox has been out several months with a broken tailbone.

> Goldust underwent knee surgery on 7/10. Based on what he wrote on Twitter, he talked about both of his knee surgeries which sounds like he had both knees done. We had only been told going in that he was scheduled for knee surgery.

> WWE released to ESPN that Kaitlyn (Celeste Bonin, 31), will be returning after leaving the company four plus years ago to get married at the Mae Young Classic. Rhea Ripley was also announced for the tournament. PW Insider reported that Verrice Gabriel, a woman wrestler from The Philippines, will also be in the Mae Young Classic.

> The top ten most-watched shows for the past week on the WWE Network were: 1. Table for 3 for Bliss, Stratus and Lita; 2. NXT from 7/4; 3. 2018 Money in the Bank; 4. Something Else to Wrestle with from 7/4 on Rock; 5. Ride Along with Kay, Royce, Rusev, English and Lana; 6. Hardys Woken; 7. 2017 Extreme Rules; 8. 205 Live from 7/3; 10. U.K. from Royal Albert Hall day one

You can't just reach for "I don't watch WWE" every time you're blatantly incorrect, my man. There's nothing unfair about it, he came in for a quick part-time run, drew a good portion of the house and made everybody money by the end of it. So am I the only one who still finds this JR/White/Barnett thing really fishy? Dave and everybody else is reporting it's all real, but I have such a hard time believing an announcer got involved in a match, got in the ring even, and hasn't been immediately fired. Or what are the repercussions of Jay White breaking an old and fragile commentator's ribs potentially setting up a situation he could sue (he won't) but also the chance to lose him for some dates. Now I'm not going full conspiracy, I believe his rib is broken, and until I hear differently I will believe it's a shoot. But wowza, I cannot believe Barnett did all that and wasn't immediately canned. Didn't he push security? That's a bad bad look.

Barnetts a massive mark and AXS and Mark Cuban seem to like them despite Jim Ross constantly burying the product, Honestly Jim Ross and Barnetts shitty commentary for the last 2 years is far more of a reason to fire Barnett or both than him reacting to a shoot rib injury of his colleague, still should be fired but at least there's some level of understanding the situation than them making it clear they don't give a fuck week after week

https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2018/07/11/1536275/0/en/Statement-From-Martha-Hart-in-Response-to-Published-Comments-by-Wrestler-Bret-Hart.html

>The suggestion by Bret Hart that I am “erasing” the memory of my late husband, Owen Hart, is reckless, irresponsible, and clearly untrue.

>Bret’s comments are rooted in the fact that I have steadfastly refused to work with the WWE to exploit Owen’s image for commercial gain. Owen was an incredible entertainer and I know that his many fans around the world enjoyed his wrestling career immensely. I encourage them to continue to do so. But I am firm in my belief that the WWE was responsible for Owen’s death. As a result, I cannot and will not support any efforts by the WWE to profit from Owen’s memory.

>Instead, I, my son Oje and daughter Athena have worked tirelessly to honor Owen through the good works of The Owen Hart Foundation, which has exceeded $4 million in gift giving and contributions toward scholarships, home owner bursaries, and other special projects that have greatly improved the lives of so many in Canada and around the world. We have always believed that this is the most fitting public tribute to a man of profound integrity; a wonderful human being who just happened to wrestle. I know that Owen would be very proud of the tremendous accomplishments the Foundation has achieved in his name.

>Bret Hart’s comments are disrespectful and cruel. It is disappointing that so many in the media have chosen to report them without seeking my perspective. Whatever Bret may believe, the fact is that, far from “erasing” Owen’s memory, I have devoted the last 20 years to celebrating his life in a very public way. I can think of very few people who have been remembered so glowingly by their spouse.

Imagine if Marvel were like "never mention Thanos" until Infinity War actually happened. That's Vince refusing to acknowledge Brock

Speaking of which, every PPV should end with a cut to Brock at his ranch fortress watching the show (they'll have to fake it using pre-film and green-screen because we know he doesn't actually watch the shows) and turning to the camera with a devious smile on his face and then go to black with the words on the screen "Brock will return"

I mean, hyping Brock at the end of a show is so obvious even UFC did it immediately as a no-brainer

She's literally built a foundation named after him that does charitable work in his name

What is this obsession with the WWE hall of fame these days as the sole signifier that a wrestler's career was important or meant something? There is nothing, NOTHING stopping you or anyone else from watching and enjoying Owen Hart's work and from keeping his legacy alive by writing about him on forums like this.

Fuck the WWE their ""Hall of Fame"". Fuck Vince Fuck Triple H Fuck Stephanie Fuck Dunn and Fuck the GHOULS and the E DRONES who enable this shit and feel like a man who died twenty years ago needs his career validated by a PR exercise dressed up in a plastic bow tie and Big Show vaping in the front row while midcarders who weren't around in 99 talk as though Owen was their friend and Tommy Dreamer has to sneak off to the House of Hardcore taping midway through the ceremony because he still has bills to pay in the wrestling industry and a creative vision that isn't a soul-sucking simulacrum of professional wrestling that sits somewhere between Disney on Ice and Nascar in most people's mental maps.

I do get it from the boys perspective, like Mark Henry for instance, he just wants to see his friend recognized for who he was and what he did, he essentially wants to live in a world where WWE and by proxy its workers don't have to walk on egg-shells every time they want to acknowledge his existence. The fans though, yeah, it shouldn't mean anything to us. We already know how great Owen was and it's not hard to tell people.

I find every Bret vs Martha newsbit increasingly ironic given that Bret was the only Hart kid on Martha's side when the tragedy originally happened & reparation was being processed. IIRC she even wrote him a poem or some shit to fully express her thanks.
Then when she finally got her settlement he got the impression he'd been worked.
>>6100465
WWE already made an Owen DVD.
>But Bret even says "Owen wouldn't care about the HoF"
And Stephen King liked The Dark Tower movie and Steve Ditko hated Spider-Man fans and George Lucas made the prequels. Artists are just as fallible & human as anybody else. The art itself stands independent & transcendent.
>>6100468
TBF Bret is kinda obsessed with legacy. It's why he was so surprisingly cooperative with Vince even after the one-two punch of Montreal and Owen: because Vince owned 99% percent of Bret's life's work and could Warrior him on a whim.
Although by this point they might as well wait until there's an actual physical Hall before trying to put Owen in so that they can make a big-ass deal out of it and put a bronze statue of him right out front for all passers-by to see. All due respect to Godfather and Koko Ware but making Owen just another mid-ceremony name ain't worth the bother.

Not the worst problem for Rey to have at this stage of his career. It's been wonderful to watch his renaissance post-WWE, but I wouldn't fault him trying to collect some extra retirement money if he goes for another stint there. Here's hoping they won't try to run him into the ground again if he returns.

> Garza Jr. and Ultimo Ninja were both supposed to have started here already at the same time as Keith Lee and Io Shirai, but actually haven’t because visa issues have to be taken care of. But they should be starting soon

He pushed that largest gate drivel for weeks in a desperate attempt to make this show appear to be a big win for NJPW. I guess with those photos of the empty upper bowl he had to change his talking points.

I like Dave a lot, but it's annoying when he pulls shit like this.

And, given the fact that the actual attendance was less than what Dave's claiming, it's possible that it was not a financial record. We won't know because the arena doesn't make the actual paid attendance public.

I tend to believe Dave's reporting on Sunday through Wednesday that the injury is a broken neck and not the NJPW talking points everyone started using on Thursday.

I'm glad for Nicole Matthews getting the exposure from this. I'm guessing Nixon Newell and Deonna Purrazzo will also debut in the tournament this year. Also expecting Jazzy Gabert, Mia Yim, and Mercedes Martinez to return. Even though she got relesaed, it would also be cool to see Kimber Lee return for the tournament.

> so in conclusion
Actually not a bad movie, for the most part.
I figured what the hell, big woop its a skyscraper, but when you see things from that high up even CGI’d it can make you sweat and get nervous for a character on screen walking a tightrole and shit. I had chills of relief, goosebumps, smiles, the whole nine. Not saying it didnt have any flaws, but it was actually pretty good for a cinematic experience tbh. Would recommend.

Though I did have a shitty crowd who purposely didn’t whisper at fucken all and chose to oversell AS AN ENTIRE FAMILY to everything. Im talking loud “OH! OH! OH!” For every punch or hit, loud commentary, laughs at shit that isnt intended as comedy, just all around fucking assoles and a family of them at that. Still enjoyed this movie. Thats my opinion on it, if anyone hasnt decided on seeing it yet.

>Welp, it was only a matter of time before this happened … but now that time is upon us. “Teen Mom” star Farrah Abraham is apparently getting into the wrestling business.

>World Class Revolution Pro Wrestling in Oklahoma announced the Abraham acquisition on Saturday with a Facebook post saying they’ve “come to terms” with the former MTV star.

>“We couldn’t be happier to welcome Farrah into our family,” says World Class CEO Jerry Bostic. “Farrah brings a lot of creativity to the table and I can’t wait to see all of the amazing work we are going to do together as a team.”

>Bostic adds, “We’re starting to effectively combine pop culture with our wrestling product and we’re seeing great results thus far and we’re just getting started.”

>For those who may have forgotten her, Abraham was last in the news for subtly crashing a fashion show in Cannes to quickly allow a photographer to snap a shot of her nether regions. This was done to make it look like the moment was accidental in a photo (so that it could be sold to tabloids), when in reality it was done on purpose.

>Since Farrah doesn’t have any wrestling experience, it’s unclear what she’ll be doing with WCRPW.

>Hopefully it’s doesn’t involve photography.

All I can say is, I've never heard of WCRPW until now, so mission accomplished I guess.

Farrah is the one who became an adult film star, then accused a co-star (who I think she dated) of rape, put out an awful album, and was actually ousted by the other Teen Moms out of fear she was a bad influence on their kids (including the obese one who beat up the baby's daddy.) Oh, and she recently revealed she and her young daughter hang out naked together at their house.

>A big name has been spotted near the location of tonight’s WWE Extreme Rules which has led to fans speculating that WWE Legend Hulk Hogan could make his return to the sports entertainment company.

>Hogan flew into Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday night, which is not far from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where Extreme Rules is being held. Several fans noted seeing Hogan and Jimmy Hart on their flight heading to Cleveland and posted it on social media. Hogan doesn’t have any public appearances in the area.

>If you recall, Hogan was considered to be involved in the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia a few months ago but wasn’t brought back for the show. Hogan and WWE have confirmed in the past that they have talked about how they could make his return to the company become a reality. Take this as pure speculation for now as it would be odd for Hogan to make his big WWE return at Extreme Rules rather than an episode of Raw or even at SummerSlam next month but crazier things have happened in pro wrestling.

>the "WCW was killed by bad booking" meme

WCW was killed by exactly 1 thing.
The AOL-Time Warner Merger. America On-Line (an internet service provider you've likely never heard of unless you were born before 1995) *bought* Time Warner (a massive multimedia conglomerate) and the dot.com bubble proceeded to immediately burst, leaving them needing to cut losses in a big way and right at that time, WCW's drop in profitability (due only in small part to the nonsensical booking) combined with a general sag in the popularity of wrestling made the decision to sell easy. Unless some crazy scenario like Amazon buying WWE immediately getting fucked by a sudden drop off in business because the Postal Service and UPS refuse to carry Amazon packages, WWE is not in danger of becoming WCW.

The merger didn't happen until 2000 and it was the final nail in the coffin as WCW didn't have Ted writing checks no matter how bad it got anymore. But don't downplay the fact that ratings plummeted while WWF was rising and shows like Starrcade were literally getting half the attendance they had the year before. It's all relative at the end of the day - bad management, ridiculous costs, huge egos - but WCW's at its peak was doing ridiculous numbers that AOL would be idiotic to ignore, not just decent or sustainable ones. And the direct reason for fewer tickets and viewers will always be the booking.

My point is that WWE doesn't have anybody to pull the plug in the event that it fails to be profitable and if it hasn't failed to turn a profit during the previous 10 years of consistently awful PPVs, it is unlikely to suddenly start now.

I don't think the tweet had anything to do with "killing business" or "end of the company." I think Alvarez is say that the quality of the card is akin to the batshit PPV's at the end of WCW's run. Bad booking, lots of gimmick matches for seemingly no reason, lots of run-ins, a shit crowd, poorly paced, poorly assembled card with matches having no flow in following one another. Ending the night on a wet dud when it's hardly the match or storyline driving the company forward.

True, but I mean, FOX is expecting 3.0-3.5 ratings for Smackdown on a Friday night a year from now. I don't know if pen to paper means they're locked in, but things can't keep going down as if WWE has a free pass to put a jar of mayonnaise up for three hours on Monday night.

Any time people compare WWE to "late WCW" it always carries a tacit (and fallacious) false equivalence of outcome. Like "if WCW and WWE both put on bad shows like this, WWE is going to end up the same way as WCW".

Abdullah the Butcher - Mon, 16 Jul 2018 01:58:01 EST ID:/0jC6O5I No.6103225 Ignore Report Quick Reply

Also true. But when ratings are actually hitting record lows instead of staying low but steady, and in conjunction with really bad booking that immediately reminds one of WCW, it's worth making noise about.

Things can always get worse and they usually do when management doesn't see a problem. It's also worth mentioning that WWE arguably has the most competition since WCW in terms of excitement and alternatives. That's not to say NJPW or ROH are anywhere even in the same stratosphere as WWE in the U.S. market, but there's a reason this MSG thing was such a big deal.

Bryan and Dave have been saying since we knew the details of the TV deal that they aren't going out of business and none of this matters in terms of WWE's business. We've hit WCW quality now but the situation is completely different.

That said, they keep this shit up in 5 years their TV deals are getting slashed.

>It turns out that it was later revealed that Kane was seen earlier in the day with a boot on his ankle as well as at a campaign function last week, so the injury does appear to be legitimate. It’s expected that Kane will remain off of television while he’s recovering from this injury.
