The original Enterprise (Constitution class) had a holodeck. This goes against everything I was ever taught growing up.

Yeah, I've been trying to finish TAS before it goes off Netflix at the end of the month and saw this episode last night. They even have "food synthesizers" which look basically like replicators.

I always grew up believing that the original Enterprise had none of these comforts.

but yeah iirc there was stuff implemented in TAS that would continue into TNG
I'm not entirely sure they didn't have them (just offscreen) during TOS, too, like the Takaya whale crew in TNG
