Fuck Kurtzman and fuck all of his shit. If they say they care about canon, why can't they then make a fucking show that won't (almost by necessity, considering it's a direct fucking prequel) violate canon? If they care about Star Trek and originality, why can't they make an actual new Star Trek show without Spock or the Enterprise? I don't care what they promise, it's almost certainly going to be shit.

>randomly linking a character to Khan
This is the same desperation you can smell from Lower Drecks with the constant references to try and fit in. I'll grant that LD does at least seem to dig a bit deeper than nutrek's lazy recycling of the mainstream misconceptions, like Kirk fucking everything, but it's just nostalgia bait. Also just makes me wish we got S5 of ENT at least.

They believe that they won't be able to make a successful Trek show without heavily tying it to previous shows or characters. This is wrong, as if they had the right fuckin' team together and didn't have some sort of hamfisted political themes, my ass would be right there, at least to give it a chance.

problem being that they don't have that team, because that sort of political message is antithetical to the bourgeoisie right now, which is why all we get is explosions and nostalgia bait

They already renewed it for a second season and discovery for a 5th season, I gag at anything trying to rehash old trek or use Spock as a means of connecting and drawing in audiences.

Are the two people on the left supposed to be wearing Starfleet uniforms? Because of so, they look really, really stupid with those useless faux-leather belt-things.

In the Star Trek Discovery future; Earth isn't part of the Federation anymore.

To me, that's preposterous. Earth not being part of the Federation, things of that nature.

It's out and I just watched the first episode. It's basically Old Trek flavored Nu (T R A U M A) Trek. It's definitely watchable but I don't have high hopes.

That would require having capable writers and gambling on a new idea, neither of which Paramount is interested in.

That is most definitely not what they were going for. This is as much of a bone as they are willing to throw to people who want real Star Trek.

So anybody watched this crap yet? I felt kinda underwhelmed by the commercial LIEK OMG I AM STANDING ON A COMET RN, I don't really see why these fucking losers are obsessed with prequels but they simultaneously want to input new and previously unimagined technology
This dichotomy of completely opposing elements just drives me crazy.. I mean seriously just set it in the future for fucking out loud so you don't have to be bound by all kinds of restrictions

Anyways I'm probably not going to even watch it, but maybe possibly if it even shits out an episode that actually feels like star trek.. you guys watch it though and just let me know.. I'm more of a LISTENER than a watcher, ya know?

Update:

Saw the second and third episodes. Underneath the shitty forced drama, there's something that's better Trek than most bad Trek. People defended STD and Picard by saying that Star Trek continually evolves to find a new audience and leaves some people behind and I think we all recognize that as bullshit but it might be true in this case. Am I going to keep watching it? I don't know. Can I justify watching something because it's better than ENT dreck?
