The site gets really hard to read on widescreens. You end up craning your neck from the far left to the right to read long posts. Zooming doesn't help. Was wondering if you've thought about having a widescreen option.

I wrote a very simple Greasemonkey/TamperMonkey script for this purpose. It's made the site much more usable. But it'd be cool to have something like this as a regular site option. Would also allow you to do ads on the side if you absolutely had to go that route...

If anyone wants to try it and see what they think:
// ==UserScript==
// @name 420Chan Widescreen Mode
// @namespace hiffwe
// @grant none
// @match *://boards.420chan.org/*
// ==/UserScript==

function addGlobalStyle(css) {
var head, style;
head = document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0];
if (!head) { return; }
style = document.createElement('style');
style.type = 'text/css';
style.innerHTML = css;
head.appendChild(style);
}

addGlobalStyle('html { margin-left: 15%; margin-right: 15% ! important; }');

Not bad, but it can be done in fewer lines of code.

What's wrong with them? If it makes you feel any better the one I'm using for the script is actually Violentmonkey, but I don't think anyone knows it by that name so it's sort of confusing.

Just a heads up, if nobody knows what these are, they're basically mini-scripts that allow you to modify a page's behavior. You can find a lot of scripts publicly available. Basically it's like a video game mod but for a website.

I've done a fair bit of stuff with it for 420chan. For instance I made IDs various colors to notice posters more easily, and I think Kirt copied the idea after seeing a screenshot (just a guess, but it was way too much of a coincidence... I had the idea for it and then maybe 2 weeks later it was part of 420chan).

Anyway, you can do a lot of cool shit and I'd highly recommend trying it out. https://violentmonkey.github.io/get-it/

Also trying on a laptop now and it's still better. Kirt, you gotta try this out for a day and see what you think. Resolutions getting too big for left justification. Give us options my n'wah

I ported your code over to javascript, because I'm too lazy to install more software and I think there are others who will miss out because they are also unwilling to install more software and also unwilling to port your code over to javascript.

// function what does the thing

function addGlobalStyle(css) {
let head = document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0]
if (head) {
let style = document.createElement('style')
style.innerHTML = css
head.appendChild(style)
return style, head
} else {
return null
}
}

// applying the function to actually make the computer do the thing what we want it to do

addGlobalStyle('html { margin-left: 15%; margin-right: 15% ! important; }');

I couldn't quite figure out an easy way to get that autoexecute functionality, though.

It's just software that allows you to insert JavaScript into particular sites. It's a really common plugin.

Here's my mobile version. Makes mobile browsing tolerable. Have to use Firefox though. Extensions not supported by other browsers.

if (!head) { return; }
style = document.createElement('style');
style.type = 'text/css';
style.innerHTML = css;
head.appendChild(style);
}

addGlobalStyle('html { margin-right: 45%; ! important; }');

if you can shrink the document width explicitly or set the browser viewport metatag instead.... there's actually a mobile stylesheet in place, kirt hasn't "finalized" it, but it's present

Hmm, I'm no webdev, how would you do want of those? Also, can you enable the stylesheet through some sort of workaround? And, when will he release it, fucking 2021? We've needed mobile options for literally years

In action. Use Firefox + Tampermonkey. Or Kirt, add the literally single meta tag line. It's literally one line. Make it a Christmas miracle. God bless us, every one!

I have a similar but different problem. I'm usually on here on mobile throughout my day. As you can see this shit is really fucking small. There's gotta be an easy way to make your site mobile friendly. There's a viewer app but it sucks for a different variety of reasons. You said you were working on this like a year ago, Kirt! Do your job man!
