Hey Op, big fan of this comic here. I discovered and read everything on the artist's Tumblr last night after running across a few panels in a BWH a month or two ago. Do you perchance know where I can download a collection of these comics?

Yeah, Owl is the only one who's not a drugged-up loser. But have you reads Jobs? Owl shares a house with those two parasites who don't respect him, break his shit, spend his money and abuse his trust. He gets them a job because for some reason he still believes they're decent people. He actually quits his own job and risks his reputation to get these assholes to behave for once. They fucking blow it, surprising no one, and ruining what's left of Owl's career. What does Owl do? He believes them when they tell him it'll be alright. Megg and Mogg and that werewolf are ruining his life and he lets it happen. He's incapable of recognizing - or doesn't want to recognize - that his "friends" are fucking poison. Owl is a tool.

I'm getting really passionate about this cartoon Owl.

Bless this thread.

Enjoyed Megahex. Although, after reading an interview it doesn't sound like there will ever be a 'definitive' collection. The author is rewriting stories, and choosing not to [re]publish strips. I wouldn't be surprised that some of the serialized stuff, like VICE, eventually disappears too. There's likely a deal for those pages to be exclusive, and now they no longer fit the new chronology (Read MH, and you'll see why....)

Keep it circulatin'

The new comics are just "Megg & Mogg". Pages on VICE (or elsewhere) have to now take place before Cocktails. There's no guarantee that recent Megg, Mogg & Owl strips will be collected. So if you like them? Archive them now.

The next hardcover is going to at least have an expanded version of Megg's Coven. Given that, and the groups breakup? Good chance of less stupid druggie adventures, and a lot more depressing introspection. A look into the creator's state...

Even if XMAS 2017 is retconned: expect Werewolf Jones to still be put through the meatgrinder. I liked it better when it was a group of lovable assholes. They don't all need to be estranged and killed off in melodrama.

>>36177
Which is weird, because there's still several references of rape in Megahex.

>I think the creator got a serious case of Tumblritis.
After seeing his photos? Yeah, definite portrait of sadbrains. Megg is his autobio character, or at least who he wants to be.

It doesn't take a lot of reflection to tell the author is depressed. So, I'm not sure what you're getting at? But, okay, I did read an interview, and it's not too surprising:
http://www.gridlords.com/post/101086627340/ten-questions-for-simon-hanselmann
>I’m always depressed
>Megg’s Coven is going to pretty “self-exposey.” It’s going to be intensely open and horribly fucking dark

I think most of can us see that coming, no?

Things are shifting in direction to appease a certain narrative. Veering more into autobio, plus a few other recurring themes (I'll hold off, because you never know what will be 'official' in Vol.2 and what gets redacted). Regressive, I think, but YMMV.

It might also be a continuity thing, it makes a lot more sense for megg and mogg to deny it was rape if they were saying "do him".

If it were super tumblrism they probably wouldn't have had owl screaming about it being rape later on.

Though I might be wrong, maybe other pages got censored too.

They did have full on cat dick tho.

I get the mindset, but honestly, nil. I'd rather have the work as it was.

And, yeah, it's still the same thing. Because the language is softened it pushes to make Jones more of the sole dumb bad guy (Increasing focus on that theme as time progresses...).

Well, just look at the 'Trigger Warning' on the cover. The author has a semi-active tumblr etc. etc.

I'm not sold that he's clearly scummier than the other deadbeat outcasts (Who also instigate him). Jones is shown to be initially a braggart, but totally weak and overly emotional.

"Everybody fucks with Owl" was a big part of the comics. There's now a strange reversal from Owl being the object of ridicule, and pushing that onto WW Jones.

I still think Jones is more of a "dumb jock" placeholder for the author to torture, and ultimately kill off (see XMAS 2017).

Here's the interview: http://www.tcj.com/a-conversation-with-simon-hanselmann/

I always find this kind of thing funny:
>I find it interesting, there’s a lot of 4chin threads talking about me and lots of different, odd opinions on 4chin, which I don’t even understand, I don’t know what goes on on 4chin, it’s just this confusing modern contraption.

I've seen Megg & Mogg mentioned ONCE on 4chin, which means he has to go there more often than I do to get this feel for it. But he doesn't go to 4chin. I get the impression people use that site as some sort of defense mechanism. Like, "oh no, it's only THOSE people that liked my rape comic". Bitch, YOU are the one that made it. And it was funny. And it fits into the general picture of burnouts being dicks to each other.

Reportedly, even the dude who does Slylock Fox went to the future and had a nice, innocent talk with all the people who want to fuck Cassandra Cat.

Kind of weird to see everyone sucking this guy's dick, though. I mean, the comics are pretty good, but I only just found out about them. And the art is shitty webcomic level.

I kinda like how amateur the art is. Makes it feel grungier somehow. And while reading that definitely made me feel the artist was being dishonest and dickish about it, it doesn't make me like the comic any less. I've tolerated much more crap from other artists I like, and I though it's irritating I can't blame him for probably being afraid of getting crucified by the PC crowd. Plus he can never rid the internet of the comics he censored even if he cuts them from the book so it's ultimately a non issue. I've got the originals I'm satisfied.

also it's about burnouts of course everybody here likes it lol.

The art does lend some charm to it. It's not BAD art, per sé. It fits the subject matter and the style. It accurately conveys what the artist wants it to convey. But at the same time it's got a lot of errors out of the wazoo. If this were, I don't know, a historical comic, I'd skip it on account of the art.

vasquez stopped being cynical and hateful years ago. he's really chill now. he doesnt hate his old work either, we may even get a squee tv movie at some point if he can get the financial aspect together. and he's making new invader zim comics with the old storyboard and writing team.

and you're blowing this mog thing up a little much. he did damage control for one comic out of fear. He did it dishonestly but there's hundreds of comic authors who've done dumber shit. I'm not too worried or bothered by it to be quite honest. if there's any author who actually pisses me off right now it's Andrew Hussie. not for some dumb political shit either he just rushed through his comic's ending worse than Sidonia. It more or less ended the exact same way too except you dont see the final bit of action for yourself. it just skips right on ahead. "okay we beat the bad guy, here's a timeskip". also more pointless barely relateable drama. Ruining your comic on a basic plot level is way worse than ruining a single joke. I can forgive the mog guy.

So Beet the Vandel buster is back in publication after a 10 year hiatus. Not sure if anyone here has read it since it's been so long, but for the few initiated, rejoice! Some primo nostalgia will be coming your way.

Now if only I can find a place to reread that has every volume.

I'll admit there's stretches of it where I find it boring. some of the screencaps people post on /b/ and shit crop out the funniest parts and people might go into expecting a laugh a minute gag comic (and sometimes it can be). Not liking it is totally fair though. I almost never enjoy pure slice of life myself. Pretty much just this and yotsuba. unless you count sitcom tv shows, the bits in always sunny and king of the hill where they're just shooting the shit being themselves are really entertaining.

You're right. The most that happens is just like the odd character revelation. the main appeal is their decadent and depraved lifestyle. I agree with you. i don't think it's really funny but i still read it for some reason. I think what keeps me reading is to see how messed up their lives become, despite, yes, nothing seeming to happen.

You probably need to be near or among people like the heroes and successfully escape this kind of behavior to find the comic hilarious.

The situation is really real life, so when its funny it brings you to tears.
When its just normal life it may be boring, but life is boring.
The surreality of it being witches, werewolves, and animals should get you through it.

Constantly doing different drugs and becoming a bit stallionoo while trying to handle some basic needs – paying rent, showing up to work, even interacting with other people in a non-weird way.

The logic and humour of this comic perfectly translate what happens in the heads and lives of many irresponsible drug users.

"I couldn't think of a better title. Mostly it means, "Please put up with this old shit for one more year, and then you'll get your fucking Megg's Coven." Also it's just about change, trying to change. It's one more year until Werewolf Jones has his overdose. He don't change. Maybe Megg can?"

"I think I'm gonna change it up for Megg's Coven. Currently I'm envisioning a nice, big, Euro-style hardback series that will eventually be housed in a slipcase. I'm going to be aiming for like 120 pages a year. Probably like four or five volumes. It's exciting for me to be doing it this way, with forward momentum. It was a real dick move of me to put out Megahex and say, "Continued in Megg's Coven," and then put out two odds-and-ends collections afterwards. I fucked up. I am the George R.R. Martin of comics."

I bought it when he just did the good gig posters back in Hobart, Tasmania. I would like to hold onto it, but I need the cash, plus got a couple of other things by him still from the very early days.

Simon needs to pull a Michael DeForge here. A few years back he saw his older comics going for insane prices on e-bay and shared all them for free on his web-site and sold all his left over stock for 2-3 bucks just to fuck with cunt "collectors" trying to make money.

I bet you're "really" gonna send Simon some money...

There was never a point where I had the idea to sympathize with Megg. Imagine having someone like that as a girlfriend.

I'd get with that. I'd be way better for her than Mogg.

A garbage bag filled with WW Jones' dead body would be better for anyone than Mogg though. Literally all the characters have some horrible traits.

Just buy it. It's even bigger and higher quality than the other books.

Here's what I have of what's been posted here and some other bits. Lot's of redundancy with the individual image folders but I wanted to keep them in case there were changes made over time like what's been discussed earlier in the thread. Still couldn't find Ram Raids page 5 so if anyone can help fill any gaps with the rarer stuff that would be cool.

As always, if you like it buy it. Sucks that the big cartel store usually sells out pretty fast and I really wish the bigger books were available there so I could give him my money instead of amazon taking a cut. Just more stuff in general on the store would be cool. It baffles me he's not selling fucking felt hats for real.
