For those wondering why a series titled Megg, Mogg, and Owl is mostly about Were-wolf Jones the reason is as follows.

Megg suffers from depression and never wants to do anything other than get high.
Mogg is lazy and never wants to do anything other than get high.
Owl is motivated to try things and tries to better himself.
Were-wolf Jones is very motivated and possibly insane.

As a result Megg and Mogg have no desire to drive the plot forward, so they usually won't do anything unless without Owl dragging them into what he's doing. Once involved in something Megg and Mogg act as a team to make things worse for Owl. Thus you get a slice of life story where Owl is constantly having to deal with his "friends" ruining his life. This dynamic wouldn't work as well if Megg and Mogg were the same person because they can outvote Owl 2 to 1, thus making it harder for Owl to oppose them, while allowing them to discuss their motivations. Of course if Owl ever leaves then this comic will mostly be Megg and Mogg sitting around doing nothing.

As Were-wolf Jones is very motivated he can drag everyone into his crazy schemes, which he will keep going as long as he can. Thus he can replace Owl as the insitgator of the plot. However unlike with Owl Megg and Mogg usually don't have any reason to sabotage his scheme for their own amusement and as they usually can't make things worse for Owl they can end up just being spectators in this craziness. Though Owl still ends up trying to survive these schemes.

Consequently due to the personalities of Megg, Mogg, Owl, and Were-wolf Jones it can be difficult to write a story where Megg and Mogg take a more active role. These two may need to undergo some character development if they want to be something other than background characters.

I enjoyed the one shots, but megg for development of character is mostly finding out how much her family sucks, how much her relationship sucks, et al.

Mogg is a cat that likes rimming. He got a little cat dick that curiously isn't barbed. I think they just thought it would be funny for Megg to fuck her cat.

Owl being the preppy but attempting to be cool character, that is constantly foiled in their attempts to fit in, succeed et al. Destroyed by his friendships, he goes along with it because its better than being a normie, I guess.

WWJ is just, allowed to be a wildcard, aggressively sexual, deeply cynical yet perhaps actually woke. He's at his best when he's destroying himself and bringing everyone else down with him.

I imagine if I were to read vice a lot of the cameos and bullshit would make more sense, but mainsteam american counterculture isn't my jam.

Hopefully they've started cleaning their stables, but talking to journalists that work there it suck hard.

Pardon me for spoiling the flow a little bit, but... I like this story much better than the usual MMO, or what should really be "WWJ,O, and occasionally M&M might say something".

Jones is much better and more likeable in this, and the strip is better. Because it's not just him yet another of him abusing Owl like a fucking psychopath. Owl leaving was the best thing he ever did, and I'd like to see how he's doing more, and how they're coping without him. Though again, moving WWJ in as his replacement was depressingly predictable. Jones, when he's doing nothing but abusing and taking advantage of his friends, is a shit character and depressing to read.

But here we've more of his crazy-schemes, well-intentioned but fucks up cos he's stupid and crazy, side. He tries things, and it's often funniest when they succeed. Having his own Netflix show is decent satire of this terrible Current Year, it's just the sort of thing that would happen. Wait til Simon is offered big animation money!

Here Jones tries, and fails. Gets his fuck on with his many consenting weird friends. Does woefully inappropriate stuff cos he just doesn't know better. He's a clown, but you also sort of respect him a little bit.

I could go on but I think you know what I mean. He's much better here than a 1-dimensional psychopath bastard like he usually is. Hope Simon goes with this more in the main strip, now he's seen how much he can expand the character.

Up til this strip I was only disappointed he retconned Jones dropping dead of an overdose and brought him back to life. I'd be interested too to see more MMO strips with no Jones, see how they can be expanded too. When it's another "Jones tortures Owl" strip, all M&M do is sit there watching unsympathetically. Then maybe kick him when he's still down, afterwards. They need more freedom to do stuff beyond rimjobs and a zombie relationship. Hey, why not have some zombies in the strip? COVID zombies!

I think the Cyberpunk joke was wasted. Either have Diesel kill himself or do SOMETHING with it, rather than just mention "cuties don't like a popular game". Particularly the fact that it's KILLING really self-righteous Internet ones, because beside bitching on the Internet and masturbating into their sisters' underwear, vidya is all they have in their lives, and this one has been hyped up the arse for ages, it's driving them made having to "cancel" something they've wanted for months.

Then again, I suppose teenagers in programmer socks complaining about things doesn't make for an interesting or funny story, so perhaps best just to throw it away like that. I was hoping this tranny caper was going to turn out that Diesel had some evil plot in mind rather than meaning it seriously. It's one-up on his gay brother.

Maybe Simon doesn't have an axe to grind in such a direct manner, prefers to address the issue more slowly. Video game nerds aren't the primary audience for MM&O and probably not the 3rd or 4th. And no rent, too, that's a big deal. And think what they'll save without Jones borrowing money and destroying their shit all the time!

They might even get money for fostering the kids, if they do it legit, though obviously Owl would have to lock Meg and Jen in the shed. It would require him to pass inspections, but there's not a lot of demand for fostering boys above baby age, and they already know him and trust him.
