The thing with dubs of Japanese cartoons is, they're made in a different way from film dubs. Cartoon dub voice actors always use the cartoon voice that is higher pitched than their natural voice and is always enthusiastic-sounding even when they're reading a list of groceries, and it always sounds unnatural. Sure, original Japanese dubs sound unnatural most of the time as well, but it's because they're more theatrical than live action tends to be, not because of a convention that cartoons must be dubbed in a silly Mickey Mouse voice.

This thread is for pictures and appreciation of the only great anime to come out in the last 10 years.

>What did Dandy do right to make it such a good anime?
>Where did every other anime in the last 10 years fail to make it nowhere near as good as Dandy?
>What lessons should want to be anime writers take from Dandy in order for them to make a decent show?
>Since it's impossible for anyone to surpass Watanabe's magnum opus what would the most economical and practical way for other anime writers to kill themselves out of shame be?

Postin Dandy, baby! We already know that Dandy haters are just jealous weebs so don't sweat the small stuff and just don't reply to fagass trollposts and we can keep this thread groovin' into yesterday!

Anime is fun to watch, but meh. VN is superior to anime adaptation, it felt like a downgrade after getting multiple endings in VN.

It's always like this with anime adaptations, if yoi don't have the time or patience or generally don't like visual novels, just watch 12 20 minute episodes and pretend you love Okabe and his sluts.
Albert Shakeman - Wed, 03 Jul 2019 02:54:52 EST 3hcIDXIa No.1367 Reply
Isn't the better order be to watch the series first and then play the virtual novel?

That way it doesn't feel like a downgrade when you realize there are multiple endings?

This series is making me want to check out that visual novel, but I'll probably try to watch the dubbed series next though. I heard from a friend that the dub is actually pretty good.
Wesley Sallerfotch - Wed, 03 Jul 2019 06:56:23 EST EYFHF+8s No.1370 Reply
I played VNs first then watched anime because I wondered why is Steins Gate hot shit again, that was last year when SG0 anime adaptation was released. So I gave it a try and it was okay. I related much more to the characters in VNs therefore I prefer them.

The dub is actually pretty good, French sounds oddly good too. Main character doesn't sound like your average anime mc on cocaine but rather cringy but lovable, it certainly has some realism.

I love the shit out of Devilman. I am reading the manga. I Liked the original anime from 72 even if it isn't canonical at all. I liked what I have seen so far of the incomplete ova series. I even enjoyed Cyborg 009 vs Devilman. But Devilman Crybaby was Devilman Trash. The plot was what drew me in which of course was copy pasta'd with creative liberty here and there. It seemed too fast paced, especially the final war. Certain events would occur between episodes with nothing telling the view what happened other than our own intuition which. No flash back or anything to show how two individuals changed, but just show them transformed. That alone wasn't so bad, but the death of various close characters was just shock value. The demon boy crying as he eats his mother and his father actually wants to forgive him before being slaughtered. I hope I didn't spoil anything since I didn't name the characters. But things like a breast turning into a mouth and devouring someones head. I mean come on. Devilman is a Gai-Nagi classic that I only discovered recently thanks to Devilman Crybaby ironically. I also have volume one of Devil Lady from a flee market that I was unaware of and never seen. About 50 years old it has inspired Evangelion, Berserk and plenty of other anime. Also White Zombie's Super Charger Heaven features Devilman. All in all Devilman has filled my soul with life and turned me into a fan boy all over again. Not since my childhood has an anime touched me so. DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Tenchi Muyo and Trigun were what I grew up on and so few legends have impacted me as much as they have, but discovering Devilman was such a treat. All in all I would love to write a my own material if I had the time to since the prospect is so expandable and the main character doesn't even need to be Akira or set in the same time. I think that a little originality would spice the series up since Devilman Crybaby is only the most recent of about 16 adaptions between manga and anime to come along in the wake of the true Gai Nagi source.

"death of anime" that is a blatant exaggeration of the prevalence of moe. It's not like every anime that's made sets out to induce feelings of moe now. Yes those shows are popular, but you don't have to watch them, and it's not as if you wouldn't know a series would try to awaken moe within you before watching it or anything...b-baka!

As with any consumer level art and media, you're going to see what's selling. It's selling because people like it. Companies make more. It keeps selling. The cycle continues and the art form develops in different ways. Your problems are not with moe, they are with the inevitable over-saturation that would happen in any timeline with whatever style became the most popular.

If there were 39 monster hunting, or 39 isekai, or 39 shonen series released every season would it be any better? That's already happening and they're almost all terrible.

You just can't handle your own encounters with feelings of moe moe kyun and then you come here and say it killed an entire media.

Of course, he would have a lot better perspective than I do being a western consumer. So I'm sure there's plenty of truth to what he's saying.

My perspective is that Lucky Star came out right around the same time as Code Geass, and whether you actually like the shows or not, since then we've had things like Parasyte, Psycho Pass, Attack on Titan, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and the ever so famous for an episode Goblin Slayer.

Maybe he means that more personally in that, at his studio - where they make things like Love Live - maybe HE isn't allowed to do it? Or, maybe there's some miscommunication considering the article ironically titled "I wouldn't be allowed to make something like Code Geass" is about his latest release of a Code Geass movie?

Was the new movie cute slice of life? I didn't watch it so idk.

Getting away from just not being allowed to release "depressing" stuff, I can go through a brief list of anime from the past year and there is plenty of other garbage shows that don't feature any moe. Card fighting shows, Coming of age magic fighting shows, super power shows, sports shows, Historical shows, Mecha shows.

I mean, most of them are really bad and that's kind of my point. Moe didn't kill anime, anime never died. There are just a lot of options being vomited out of studios that pad the selection so it seems like it's all doom and gloom. It's like saying Battle Royale is killing video games, while here I am playing half assed RPGs which don't feature a battle royale mode at all, if that analogy helps communicate my feelings at all.

Part 2 was my favorite. It was so weird and full of mixed cultural symbols, it kept me really curious and entertained throughout. The characters were mostly captivating, especially the enemies.

It didn't suffer as much from that whole problem of "everyone is special so nobody is" because without stands, the creative ways people used their skills was a lot more surprising to me.

Josephs rough personality was hilarious too. He's crude and arrogant and I love that.

So SnK just joined the short list of anime that have ever actually made me cry, despite many seeming to try. Post anime that gave you the misties, or just the saddest one you ever watched. The others were Noir's finale credits and Digimon when I was very young.
