when i read death note and saw this guy, i thought it's his character quirk that he just gobbles chocolate slabs like a slob who's in a great hurry ( descriptors which are true, so i thought nothing of it).

but since then i've noticed, i have never seen a japanese person eat a slab of chocolate normally. they just eat them like it's a snickers bar or something.

is this a coincidence or don't they really know how you eat a chocolate slab? or is it just one of those tropes where only slobs in anime eat chocolate slabs so the author can show how much of slob they are? kinda like there's never earthquakes in anime, if someone goes "huh, is there an earthquake?!" it's always a false alarm with some super sayan naruto farting nen with his stand instead. except in violence jack, which starts with an honest to god eartquake. but i haven't read it to the end so i can't know if it was due to tectonic activity or some epic dudes with superpowers.

anyway, yeah, chocolate slab slobs. why? please tell me

Well I mean what characters can you even think of that eat plain western chocolate bars like that? It's pretty specific character trait even in of itself, the vast majority of anime characters are gonna be snacking on pocky or melon bread or whatever japanese snacks. I think the candy itself lends itself to a specific type of character who'd be eating it like that, showing how western/cavalier they are.

People that chew through chocolate bars instead of breaking off nice square chunks are worse than gingers.

Whenever I take a bite of a kitkat, I actually do use my teeth and tongue to separate the wafer layers before chewing and swallowing it. Is that weird? It's not really something I've ever thought about before now, but reading your post has me worried that that's a weird thing to do now.

If it tastes nicer, why not? Only fatties eat bars whole any way.
