When mods make non-informational threads it is unfair to the other boards, the free board market should be to stand up on its own two feet without goverment mod subsidization.

Muh Nigga. i came to this thread to suggest just this.

My real suggestion tho is https://myanimelist.net/anime/17909/Uchouten_Kazoku or Eccentric family for those English speaking folk. its a pretty good story about family and how to overcome loss and its also a pretty good coming of age story if i remember right in my opinion and plus that Benten hnnnng i would let her cook me in a fucking hot pot in a second.

I'll always prefer Kai now.
While I loved some of the filler moments the stretching out of the plot is tedious.
Another fresh way to watch Z is the Ocean dub.
It's surreal, rushed, but fascinating hearing the first US/Canadian dub voices into the later sagas. And the company grabbing anyone available to fill roles.
One thing I liked from that version is Vegeto has his own voice.

nope, no understanding necessary. It's a character driven story, the actual moves of the game are really not featured very much and it doesn't really matter if you know how to play or not. It's really good even if the second season kind of drags for a while there. It provided a lot of moments that really got to me emotionally and filled me with good feels, probably because I could identify with the main character's struggles with solitude.

I'd highly recommend Ore Monogatari. I'm only about halfway through the season but judging by how consistent the quality has been the rest should be great too.
Not only is it funny but its just about the cutest sweetest fucking thing i've ever seen in my life. The MC is a gentle giant and a really loveable guy, it shows a lot about friendship and just being a good person, and its one of those rare shows where the couple gets together super early so over the course you get to see their relationship develop
Makes me think I should be watching more shoujo even though i'm a guy

Quick note though: everyone in this show has really defined lips, the MC is definitely the most exaggerated (pic related), but everyones got them DSLs. Its offputting at first but I got used to it by the end of the first episode

I hope you like it. It’s bit slow in the beginning but it all comes together beautifully in the end. The Rose of Versailles doesn’t fully bloom until the last episode but it’s really worth it. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

Thanks for reminding of Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou. I loved this show so much when it was airing. Reminds me of just how stupid everyone was in my middle School.

Hey, glad you liked it. I kinda dislike most 4th wall approaches because they feel sorta hamfisted most of the time (the trope is starting to get a bit old) but Inio has this je ne sais quoi in his works. I can feel that he's one of those problematic alcoholic pillpushers who can say the most hurtful things when drunk/high enough but you can't help it because he's one charming motherfucker (and the looks aren't bad at all) and you start to like his brand of abuse.

The writing is subtle. You won't get any character giving self-analysing monologues while being mind-raped, if that's what you're looking for. Thematically, the show is as deep as Lain, but 10x prettier and more entertaining.

Also I like lain, but I would not call it deep at all. If you're under the impression it is you probably misinterpreted mood and being kept in the dark as substance.
I only watched 2 eps and I could already see what templates they're using. Might have given it some eps more if they didn't water it down with so much moe filler.

Well see I came for the moe and stayed for the substance. So It never seemed like filler to me. Take it at surface level and it's just that, a cute show about cute girls. But if you look deeper there's all sorts of lore and themes which are rewarding for the learned viewer in the same way that Lain's lore and themes were. I wonder how far down the Lain rabbit hole you've been, because I'm not mistaking mood for substance when it comes to Lain. Like Flip Flappers, it's clear that someone put a lot of high-level thought into the plot and premise of the show.

Cedric Girrybit - Mon, 14 Oct 2019 07:14:47 EST kuT1If+7 No.2343 Reply

I guess I don't see Lain as very deep cause most of the "depth" isn't actually in the show itself, but in what it references. Sure it has plenty of layers, but most of them are just empty shell stand-ins, so by the end of it, they sum up to the equivalent of just one anyway. Also I Lain-holed pretty hard actually, saw it several times back-to-back during a weed-vacation (seen it sober too ofc).
But also to be fair, thinking about it I don't know what I would actually call "deep", have a hard time defining depth thought-verbally. Or coming up with a show that I feel is.

flip flappers has some interesting aspects but I always just took it for a really good show to watch while tripping, that's just the feel I get from it

Fuck it, I don't have anything to watch and my bucket list is empty, maybe I'll give it another chance and write down per ep what I think about it if I remember / feel motivated enough.

Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator.

If you've seen Magical Index or Scientific Railgun, this shit is a blast.

Plot moves rapidly, shit's edgy as fuck (duh, it features Accelerator "I killed 10,000 people" Forgot-my-last-name. But it's the good kind of edgy. It knows what it is. Great silly fun, and it's actually better animated than Magical Index season 3.

Also, the music during the ad break reminds me of Eric Andre's "This ain't your momma's monologue" monologue.

Being better animated than Index S3 is not a high bar to clear.

Africa no Salaryman is a powerful office comedy that blends 2D and 3D animation in fun ways.

No anime, but a bunch of manga about food/alcohol:

>Elf-san wa Yaserarenai (Elf Can't On A Diet)
Women of various fantasy races find their way to Earth, and end up constantly ruining their diets (which prevents them from going back to their world). The MC is a dietician who tries to help them lose weight, but they keep coming back any way.

>Ningyohime no Gomen ne Gohan (The Mermaid Princess' Guilty Meal)
Princess finds out where her fish friends keep disappearing off to, and constantly goes to the surface world to 'pay her respects' to her fallen friends. This tends to take the form of her eating a recipe made from a specific fish she once knew, while crying out her iconic phrase: "I'm sorry ____, but you just taste so good!" Features pages where they show how to prepare each chapter's type of fish.

>Harukawa-san wa kyou mo uete iru (Harukawa-san Is Hungry Today Too)
Office manager with a resting bitch face turns out to be a complete foodie, and has to hide her enthusiastic food-loving side from the rest of her co-workers.

>Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte Kara (Alcohol Is For Married Couples)
I'm cheating here by counting alcohol-focused manga as well, this one involves a disgustingly cute and mushy couple of a bartender and his wife. He makes her specific kinds of drinks which have their recipes explained on separate pages at the end, and she usually cries out her iconic phrase "This is bliss" or a variation thereof after taking her first sip.

>Madoromi Barmaid (Sleepy Barmaid)
An odd girl of a bartender has her own bartending cart and pops up at uncommon places to sell super fancy drinks and help people with their problems. No recipes though, just fancy bartending talk which might not even be real tricks or recipes.

Shokugeki no soma is basically iron chef crossed with tournament arc Naruto

Yakitate Japan is about bakers, and I think is pretty shounen battle anime influenced too

Found another cooking manga, this one’s a play on the isekai trope as the MC is transported with the hero on accident and only has a Summon Kitchen skill she can upgrade.
> Skill "Daidokoro Shoukan" wa Sugoi! ~Isekai de Gohan Tsukutte Point Tamemasu~ (This "Summon Kitchen" Skill is Amazing! ~Amassing Points By Cooking in Another World~)

If you really dig the genre you should check Cooking Papa (one of the OG cooking manga). The recipes included are pretty good and the repertoire is varied, I discovered it by finding a manga that came in a Japanese import many years ago.

Glad you liked it. Cooking is one of my favorite genres when it comes to manga and oldschool stuff is usually a plus.

Since we're recommending stuff you should also check Shissou Nikki (pic related) its an autobiographic work where the author tells the story about how he dealt with alcoholism and how he got fed up with being a mangaka and became homeless...going to rehab...etc.

It downplays all the seriousness of the topics but it you've ever been in those situations you'll get why he did it and it comes with a small Q&A at the end, you'll want to hang out with the guy.

It kinda has cooking too but not the kind you'd want to try.

Excellent recommendation. I read the whole thing in one go tonight. Loved it. Some of the homeless parts resonated with me a lot remembering a certain time in my life (wasnt exactly homeless). And I've never been an alcoholic, but the way he detailed slipping into addiction without realizing it was well illustrated.

Great read!

I am watching Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture and I highly recommend it for a cozy afternoon with a joint. Good comedy with random agriculture trivia
