Why do women/feminists generally hate anime?

It's cute, romantic, most of them pass the bechdel test, female characters are always fleshed out and realistic, male characters are always impossibly cool and ripped. I just don't get the hate. Is it just a case of social conditioning? How is Princess Jellyfish not better than Twilight?

I have been the sole exception in my group of female friends my entire life. The few times I tried to get some of them into it, while they always give it a fair shot, they end up going right back to mind-numbing reality TV. What am I missing? I'm probably enthusiastic so I'm sure I'm missing something...

Women are objectified like hell in Nippon, that's my only guess

Or they're just fucking retarded normies, could be that too

Women are WAYYYYY more objectified in Western media compared to anime. Female anime characters have individual identities, at least more than the women in shit like the real housewives series or Twilight. Usually in Western media women are neutral placeholders for the viewer at best. Anime is like that for the guys, but not for women unless you specifically watch yaoi

The women I know either love anime or never have been exposed to it. The girls I know who like anime are in it for the Yaoi so they don’t have any right to judge us for like the stuff we like.
No one outright hates anime even the pseudo feminist ones that I know. I think it’s just your group of friends that finds it boring or something.

Probably the fact that for every decent anime, there's an retarded harem anime with dumb plastic bimbo bitches in their underwear.

Girls like anime at a higher rate than guys in my experience, and they're more likely to be open about it too since there's some weird stereotypes about anime being emasculating.

Who cares? Anime is doing a good job fronting itself with things acceptable to the public that we can quietly be accepted those times people come over and find out you have $4000 worth of figures, a bed full of dakimakura, and so many wall scrolls the place is a fire hazard.

A decade ago having a zelda backpack got me picked on, now I can decorate my office with Vocaloid and K-on and people think its cool.

Dont try to figure out people who dont like it, you're wasting time that could be spent basking in the glory of our beloved aesthetic.

Most women hate anime *because* there aren't enough strong male characters. Take the example you gave for instance, Twilight. It's one of the most successful female-oriented "works" of all time precisely because there are multiple strong male characters and the female protagonist is a stand-in for the reader.

You consume media in a fundamentally masculine way, and that's intended to be a compliment. Masculine women often fear they're enthusiastic because they can't relate to other girls. Most men actually don't enjoy the bland MC protagonist you see in a lot of harem anime. What's popular does usually involve a harem, that's not the focus of the show, and the MC has a strong personality too. At least that seems to be how it is in the West. It's less about self-inserting and more about enjoying the story and the character's growth.

Moreover, because women tend to self-insert more than men, they subconsciously view the female characters as competition. 3D women simply cannot be as cute and perfect as 2D. 3D women WISH they didn't fart. They wish they had a close group of friends. But friendship doesn't come easily for most women. So when you sit them down to watch cute girls doing cute things, all they can think about is how they can never measure up using every conceivable metric. Women are more insecure than men. A perfect example of this phenomenon is the difference between advertisements targeted towards either gender.

Therefore anime is either depressing or boring for the vast majority of women, as you have already realized. How to change this? I just don't think it's possible. The best thing you can do is be open about you socially unacceptable hobby. The few other girls like you will inevitably find you.

Unless its a fendom anime, the girls usually wear skimpy clothes and need to be saved by the male characters, feminists hate that trope.
You probably remember the debacle that unfolded a few months ago after the premiere of Goblin Slayer and literally minutes in, a girl gets raped. Well yeah, that's pretty much all the proof you need. If Goblin Slayer was a western TV show, that rape scene would've probably been removed, and the creator would've made a public apology.
Feminists get triggered by the most dumb shit on western media all the time, so you could bet that something as uncensored and as male targeting as anime is going to be despised by them!

A lot of teenage girls don't like anime because of social pressure...which is the same reason lots of teenage boys hate anime. Their friends will shit on them.
(of course, this isn't the case for everyone or people who can't be swayed by social pressure)

meh i think its due to the types of anime that get dubbed. Dubbing is the way you introduce people to the medium and the shonen and seinen genre are not geared to them. These being the most translated and played subtypes doesnt lend itself well to telling stories they can relate to, or want to vicariously live through.

cause i mean, most of anime is power-fantasy these days anyhow.

Pretty sure anyone gets triggered by Goblin Slayer. What a piece of total retarded shit is that.

It's like someone took Berserk, removed all the emotional and intelligent parts, and mixed it up with Sword Art Online.

Anime women (3D universe) tend to have sharply skewed archetypical personalities, sadly with this brings insecurity and inverseness unless under strict circumstances or "her way". Otherwise the facade weakens and they harbor personality issues and trust issues.

Probably because they're told to hate it. Like twelve year olds, women on the internet loving being told what to like, which is why most of them stay on social media like twitter and post the most overused maymays in group chats. Also it could be that they dont want to look like "cringy perverts" so they stay away from it.

The problem is that people are giving to much atention to those feminists then they deserve.
I mean the gaming industry and the movie/TV industry in general are literally sucking their pussies.
But all that have to be done is just ignore those freaks who're pretending that they're fighting for the rights of the women, but all they're doing is just bitching for nothing and getting money for just opening their mouth that smells like stinky cock.

They might be crazy and sometimes really smelly, get super angry when you insult their husbandos and their latest yaoi ship but dang it, they’re still our comrades. even though Im repulsed by them, I can on some level understand where they are coming from And I prefer their company over some Ghibili loving normie.

Much agreed my tomodachi-kun.

Sometimes I wonder why I dont have more friends who like anime like, and then I remember going to a convention and playing project diva, when this girl dressed as Yuno started loudly proclaiming that Miku was her daughter, took the controller, and didnt let anybody else play, while singing every song at the top of her lungs.

I accept our cringey comrades in the struggle, but when the opportunity comes to meet them every cell in my body screams to not associate.

this is the most realistic answer. nobody will ever get into the genre by watching subs. even though the voice acting on dubs is usually piss-poor we all started with them

most anime bitches are like the only woman character in The Departed (fake psychiatrist who might fuck you) but there's more of em so it passes the Bechamel Sauce Test.

but really it's for the same reason people thought gays are pedophiles

i got into it because subs. strictly because the dubs are so fucking bad. with the subs, even if i have no idea what they are saying, they are able to emote so much more effectively (even to the point where it gets a little over the top) and if the voice acting is actually bad in japanese, I can't tell. Everything is better in the original language, unless you are getting drunk with some friends and watching old kung fu movies (or dubbed foreign porn)

I'm a lady and I consider myself pretty feminist, while being pretty weeby. Reactionaries give people this idea that Anime and Video games conflict with feminism completely and you can't be a feminist and enjoy these things. You can criticize tropes and so on, but not be completely against them, for example, when people talk about representation of more body types and such, they're not saying get rid of all video games with sexy female characters with the perfect ideal body, just saying the video game market needs to not be saturated with that and it has gotten better over the years. I still love my pretty characters, and I especially love cute anime characters.
The things I'm mostly concerned about when it comes to Japan from a feminism prespective, is high amount of sexual harassment from employers onto employees, which they've been making an effort to combat lately. Japan also has many other issues with sexualizing underage girls and such, which is reflected in anime a lot.
It's easy to just find many of these sexualizations of young female anime characters as just cute cartoon characters though, and I don't know enough, don't believe it's causing so many people to fantasizing over 14 year old (non-cartoon) girls, that wouldn't otherwise. These issues are very complicated, so it's just best to enjoy your anime waifus while being aware of feminist issues you may personally find important.
Rebecca Breddlekene - Tue, 28 May 2019 00:21:01 EST 93iQ6zdy No.1027 Reply
I also want to add, I really appreciate Japanese cute culture, I think from a feminist prospective, I enjoy that young boys in Japan can enjoy cute things without it being a scary demasculinizing thing, like it is over in the US and similar countries. Toxic masculinity doesn't seem to be as bad in Japan, in a lot of ways.
