Best as in amino balanced? Most protein per gram? Most protein per calorie? Cheapest?

Lots of different answers. Most of them end up with you sat down with a calculator trying to get 2 variables high enough while keeping a third lower. But if you want to narrow down your concerns it'll give you more useful answers.

Proteins are made up of amino acids. To create all the proteins our body needs we need 22 amino acids. Some sources of protein miss a few. Amino balanced protein is a protein which has a quantity of all of them. meat and eggs are easy mode as a result. Dairy isn't entirely balanced.

Generally a grain plus a legume will pretty much sort you out but, there's a few other shortcuts that work if you have a decent quantity of both but there's calculators and the like. You don't need your balance to be perfect every day but if you are regularly missing certain amino acids you will become unwell and/or die. That's a slow process but you'll be slowing down you gains long long before that.

Nuts are a legume high in protein but not balanced alone, fruits are not a good source of protein. However if you're otherwise eating balancedprotein sources you're fine. If you're not you may still be fine (or great) if you have some high quality grains in another meal or just fairly regularly ie rice or bread that's actually good not steam risen white flour preservative laden factory shit that is responsible for a lot of "gluten intolerance", gluten itself is protein though so as long as it's not shit it's not going to make you ill in moderate quantities

Seeds of any kind are your absolute friend, keeping in mind the seed family actually contains nuts and beans as well. I know broccoli has a good amount of quality protein. As far as nuts go, peanuts are about the best out there nutritionally.

Honestly, I suggest eating two different kinds of nuts and or beans plus two different kinds of vegetables for a meal. Eggs are a definite for at least one meal since they contain each of the essential proteins. I've been eating quinoa and lentils lately, both of which are very good for you, as well as delicious!~ YEAH

I just mix pea protein powder into every soup, stew, pasta, etc.

Get a giant bag in bulk for literally dollars for KGs of the shit. Completely flavourless, and doesn't give you night sweats and horrendous gas like whey.

I'm a huge fan of pea protein powder and mixing it into literally everything.
Alot of people says it has a bad taste, but I disagree. Mixing it in to soups is fantastic.

I also found a protein powder made from egg protein and it's a lot easier on my stomach then Whey, but when I DO fart its so bad it melts concrete. Too bad it's also pricey AF

Also lentils. Hot brown chicks bring me daal all the time and I cannot get enough (of both brown girls and lentils)

Seitan (pure wheat gluten). Just one ounce of this stuff contains 21g protein, 104 calories, 8% DV iron, and lots of other goodies. You can season it, put it in a stir fry, grill it, or slice it thin and put it in sandwiches. The texture is much closer to pork or chicken cutlets compared to tofu. You'll love it, I guarantee (unless you have a gluten allergy, in which case never eat this).

Veggies don't really have much protein. That's why a vegetarian diet is usually frowned upon. If you want plant/soy protein eat something like oatmeal, homemade cereal, tofu, tempeh, soybean (soybean burgers are pretty good if you use the right. herbs) or chickpea...Etc.

Mushroom has a lot of water by weight. Another worthwhile comparison is calories per protein.

It's actually a good source of protein when you look at it that way. Better than chickpeas. The problem then becomes that you need to eat tonnes of mushrooms and that's expensive. Adding a small portion to a meal isn't a bad idea if you want flavour, protein and not too many carbs though, but you can't rely on them as more than a little add on.

Just bear in mind that's legumes and legumes. Check you've got your amino acids balanced and try to find something that covers any weak spots. Grains will cover some of that but they tend to be starchy. Wild rice and (good) pasta or the right sort of wheat will do you well though. There may be other veg that will cover you or something though. I couldn't find amino composition for chick peas and lentils
