You can use it inside just sprinkle it on the carpet. Works really good and is safe.
I dont know about applying it to pets, just rub it into the fur maybe?

get a flea comb
comb the cat's fur

and DE is for pool filters and hippies
it's shit for fighting bugs

get the flea poison crap you slop on the back of the cat's neck
I lock my cat in my shower with me to keep an eye on her for an hour or so after putting it on so she doesn't lick

then wear long pants because when she rubs it on you it's not fun

it sucks but that stuff is super effective against fleas

Only use FOOD GRADE DE for pets. Others will likely have fillers and insecticides. DE itself is not poisonous at all. It's abrasive, so keep it out of eyes, nose and ears. I've never used it on cats since tehy groom so much, but it works pretty well for dogs. Using it in the pets bedding and favorite hangouts will help, but daily vacuuming and not letting pets outside to get re-infested is the best way to fight fleas.

I have had bedbugs in the past, so to fight them I spread DE in a thin coat all over the cracks between the wall and floor, doorway, and out of the way areas of floor. I had a cat at that time and she was not harmed at all by the DE, nor was I. As one of the people said, get food grade DE and it'll be no danger.

I don't know shit about flea poisons though, so I can't help you there.

Also get her dewormed after the fleas are gone. When cats ingest fleas, they get tapeworm.

i'm pretty sure fleas can cause more issues than medication for fleas. i've worked at a couple vets offices and feline flea and tick prevention is a big seller, and beyond feeling oily when it gets rubbed on you, has no drawbacks that i'm aware of. it is in no way "way worse than fleas".
