The best a guard dog will probably do for you is:
1) Wake your ass up if there's an intruder.
2) Distract them while you get the first couple blows/shots off.
It's really just about not being a soft target. Unless they know you have 40 lbs of weed hidden or something specific like that, a thief will go somewhere easier.
