/art/ Art & Oekaki
Okay, so i'm getting into drawing with actual physical pencils instead of a tablet.I go to a website, start browsing and am suddenly faced with a shitload of choices of pencils and markers. This example here is drawn with your everyday pen stolen from an office.I like how it feels. What do you prefer/recommend?
>>51802i just use boldmere pencils. they ensure a fine graft and quairn of the hand. It's the potanismant choice.
>>51802I too used to just use a basic pen. It depends what I want to do. I would try shading more, but I like to be able to see what it is I've drawn from inside the paper too.
>>51802Like the black/dark grey space you leave in your drawings that gives the impression of seeing in from "the other side."
>>51802Do your own thing man, go into an art store and check them out and buy the ones you kind of like, until you find something you really gel with.
I draw exclusively with cheap pens.Right now I'm using PaperMate 1.0m pens that I bought in a ten pack for less than two dollars. This is one of my old drawings. Wish I had my new sketch pad with me to show you how I actually do, but this is an idea. The shading can get really elaborate, and the darks, dark. Also teaches you not to fuck up. My family members used to buy really expensive sets of art pens for Christmas until I told them to stop because as much as I appreciate the thought, it's just a waste of money because I don't use them.
I appreciate the responsesAnother dumb question: What do you like to use as the medium?Just regular paper seems a bit too flaky for anything "permanent" >>51812Oh, i like this!
>>51825After trying some different stuff, i really like these derwent Graphik line painters
>>51981Awesome. yeah you'll just figure out what you like as you keep going, If you go to a proper art store just ask if the paper you're buying is archival, over time everything diminishes, wether it be lightfastness or the canvas slackening/paper yellowing/degrading etc, everything diminishes, archival stuff lasts longer. So find a decent artstore which stocks mostly archival stuff and just play around and see what you like, a artstore where you can go "hey, im trying to do x, advice?".
>>51981Did you do that with them? I was going to buy some but I heard they are leaky so I have steered clear so far. Would you reccomend? nb
WIP>>51982Oh yeah, there's a store like that like 100meters from my front door. I asked them, what i could use as a medium and the cute girl there gave me some of this rough textured thick paper, which i really likeArchival is a new word (i'm not native english speaker) i'll have to look into that>>51983Yeah, the first time i used it, it was leaky as fuck because i guess the small point got a bit clogged. But i still could recommend them, as it was only the first time and there's things you can do to remedy the problems.Just have some extra paper on handThough we'll see how long they last and if the problems get worse for some reason
>>51981This is amazing
Any suggestions on what to use to fill stuff out? These aren't very practical, when it comes to that obviously>>51988Thanks a lot <3
>>52013By the way, i sold the above picture! This is the second one i've sold. The one before was bought by a band to be an album coverCheck them out, if you like some COSMODELIC stuff!https://multishiva.bandcamp.com/album/time-messer
I like mechanical pencils, particularly if they have a nice weight to them. I've been using these pentel 'graphgear' .9mm pencils for a while, and it feels weird to use anything else. i kinda stress out if i want to draw and only have a lesser, plastic or wood pencil but i digress.seems many people use wood pencils of varying hardness for shading and such, but i just like to pencil in lines before i ink them, and can get a good shade going with the mechanical pencil anyway.feels good man.
pigma micron for penstombow mono for pencils
Thanks a shitload for all the responses! These micron pens might be exactly what i would enjoy
