Also, doesn't it get boring having your towns cities and settlements regimented into square blocks?

What's confusing is why anyone would use that at all?
Seems like a shit storm if traffic is involved, that inner ring is fucked.
With all the taxes we pay here in America they better be able to afford some traffic lights and not resort to the balls of death.
I could see it being used in the middle of nowhere, but whats the point?

I'm in America and I see roundabouts all the time. They're good if it's a low-traffic intersection where a stop sign would just slow everybody down.

What the fuck are you on about? Back when I lived in the mountains, the only roads pretty much exclusively followed creeks. Straight, grid-like roads are a symptom of living in boring flat places like Nebraska where paving wherever you want isn't a logistical nightmare.

lol. In my part of America we don't have anything that makes sense like grid patterns or roundabouts. They took indian footpaths and fuckin, like, wagon routes from colonial times, paved them, dropped six lane highways on top of them, then shoved subdivisions and strip malls on top of those.

I used to live in a shitty medium sized American city full of 'that's fucking socialism' people.

They put in a triple roundabout and people lost their minds even though it made traffic way better. Americans have the dumbs about really stupid shit.

i live in a murican city that has kind of the best of both worlds

all the streets are laid out on a grid system, Streets, Terraces, Drives, and Courts run north-south with even numbers on the west and odd on the east, Avenues and Lanes I think run east-west with even on the north and odd on the south, only a few major streets have names the rest just have numbers 'SW 34th St' etc based on where they are on the grid.

i used to deliver pizza here and its easy af, dont even need to know where im going just look at the address head off in that general direction and find it based on the numbers there dont matter how high i am

meanwhile in the downtown area such as it is there are all kinds of retarded roundabouts, one-way streets and fucking retarded kind-of-a-roundabout-where-there-should-be-a-stop-sign-and-you-just-have-to-circle-around-a-pole-in-the-middle-of-the-intersection bs

In most cases, stubborn assholes are digging their heels in over progress because they feel like their lives are already rushed, and more improvements mean more harassment to get shit done faster on tighter deadlines with fewer excuses for delays.

On the one hand, I'm like yeah, I can relate to that. But then I get stuck in traffic for an hour or a plane gets delayed and I'm stuck in an airport, or a train sits in a tunnel motionless for 20 minutes, and I'm praying for a nuclear holocaust to end my life.

So, fuck them. Everybody should be going faster, not slower. Fuck out my way grandma cunt-fingers, and your dimwitted mouth breathing son too.

Have you ever been in a city on a grid? Typically the streets are named by letters and numbers ascending in one direction (for example all north-south running streets are letters and ascend east to west and all east-west running streets are numbers that ascend north to south). This makes it very easy to navigate, provided you can count and know your ABCs.

This. They keep traffic from backing up where stop signs would, and are cheaper alternatives to traffic lights where they can't be justified for lack of traffic flow.

Problem is when cities go overboard and just slap them everywhere in place of where a traffic light would be a better option. Are worse add multilane, multi ring ones. Which is atleast not as bad as 8-12 lane stop signs in a busy area, forcing everyone to guess who's next and a shit load of near misses.

>people seriously have trouble with roundabouts
the whole point of them is so that traffic can go continuously, rather than stopping and starting like a junction. If you neer lights at a roundabout you are an utter mong

Another nice thing about them is that if you got streets that you want to connect together at one point and they're not at nice right angles to eachother, you don't have to rebuild the streets to meet at 90^s, or acquisition high value property to commence a street feature.
