I need some advice. I don't have too many people to turn to. My problem is about finding a job. I just fucking hate retail with a passion, man. I'm a hard worker, I'll push shopping carts for 7 hours straight outside in the sun. But going inside to deal with people and their idiocy is unbearable.

I'm in my early twenties. I just got a two-year degree from college. I have a decent amount of money from things, but no car. I can easily get a car. So should I get one right now and then start looking for jobs? Or wait until I've got a job and then get the car? What are some jobs people might not think to look for? I just want to get some part-time thing that isn't soul crushing, and then go back to studying and exercising and all that.

Hit up a temp staffing agency. They'll put you to work ASAP and sometimes you get genuinely good jobs from these places. I've mostly had good luck, I've only ever had my assignments terminated after a month of working at a soul-crushing shithole like a plastic factory and not being very good at it.

Your chances of employment without a car are slim. You walk into a manager's office and they somehow catch a whiff that you don't have your own means of transportation to work... No job for you. It's not 100%, but ya, I'd just get a car first.

Also yeah you really need a car to work. Not having a car fucking cripples you, almost as much as smoking weed in a state where it's legal cripples you because no companies are prohibited from refusing you employment for showing a weed positive on a drug test. DURR LET'S MAKE WEED LEGAL BUT EXPECT CORPORATIONS TO NOT BE PETTY DISCRIMINATING BASTARDS ABOUT IT, LOL GOOD FORESIGHT

Temp staffing is great

As is any manufacturing you can get: there's not much made in the US any more but my first permanent position was milling parts on CNC lathe and assembling them into industrial shock absorbers (some of which were used in Flamanville nuclear plant)

Security work is also good but you need clean piss (at least when you start off) and is steady work you can have while studying for other stuff (or perfecting the fap-and-walk)

Online and phone tech support is grueling and I couldn't do it myself but you could try this as well

Restaurant work is sort of the pits but back of house is alright if you have the work ethic and wherewithal to work high and produce high quality meal product. Also you get to hang out with cool dudes.

As for your car situation, just say you can get to work reliably during the interview or otherwise lie and buy a car only if hired. I am 27 and have never really needed a car (I can't drive even sober and just take an Uber if I really need one, otherwise walk or streetcar)

remember OP, you are gonna make it

I have been led to believe by similar threads that working as ground staff at an airport is a pretty sweet gig. Relatively high pay, lots of downtime, physical, no people.

My most enjoyable 'unskilled' job was working for the local council in a 2-man team looking after a precinct with a nature reserve: Gardening, landscaping, minor maintenance, pick up a bit of trash. Also surprisingly well paid, and lucky that the fellow I was working with is one of the nicest people ever born. Also no dealing with people.

Yeah dude, I only have an AA degree. It's pretty much a piece of paper that says "This person graduated high school, but in college."

I'm working on getting a certification, but that will be at least another year. I think I will try out a temp agency, thanks guys. I've tried one of those before, and they did call me about a few jobs, but at that point I already had something lined up.

Gotta be entrepreneurial in order to actually get paid fairly for your service. Everything is so conglomerated now.. Almost everyone was self employed 100 years ago. If I had any money I'd be dippin a toe in ten different pools. Make some dumb shit you can sell at a flea market or online, give guitar lessons to kids, invest in crypto bullshit, uhhhhhh catering.. Lawn mowing, fuck idk. Dealing. Lyft. Go hard while you can. You may not have a car but at least you can get one. Get one while you can, hustle hustle hustle, and get to a point where you're money is making money. Buy some shitty old houses for dirt, fix em up just good enough, start renting that shit, then keep working. Keep doing shit until you have two or three other things that are just bringing in money on their own. Grow, and then have other people deal for you gnome saiyan

How does buying a shitty house work? I wouldn't even know where to begin. There is actually a house for sale here, it is absolutely fucked. I think the price was unreasonable, I think it was still like 60,000 (??) dollars. But It was absolutely fucked up, I saw it from the street once. Roof caved in, walled fallen over.

I would consider buying a house like that for the right price, but I don't know how much it'd cost to get it up and running.

The biggest issue with buying houses like that isn't the condition of the house itself, but usually those properties were held for years by deadbeat owners who didn't pay any property taxes, and now the property has hundreds of thousands of dollars of property tax liens against it.

Houses are always sold as-is, so you would be responsible for paying off that lien.

Also if the house's roof is caved in then chances are good that it's got some serious structural damage and is uninhabitable. Houses with serious structural damage aren't even worth saving...they're almost always a complete tear-down.

Yeah you'd definitely need to be smart about it.
I wish I had just some money because I feel like there's a part of the population that could use a certain thing and there's a market that no one is going for really - fukn closets. In Japan they got TUBES man. You can rent a tube that's big enough to sleep in if that's all you need. I don't think that would work here but the small house shit, the shipping container shit, that shit's about to be more of a thing soon because the rent is TOO DAMN HIGH. If you can find a decent house, and actually get a mortgage or whatever, do it and then rent out rooms. Hell, rent out partitions of rooms. Imagine a 5 bedroom house with 20 people all paying 200 a month for a quarter of a room. That 4,000 minus your mortgage payment would just be money coming in for you. Do that with just a handful of houses and you could pretty much retire as a slum lord

All I can imagine is the massive fine you're gonna get from the town's zoning board for running an illegal motel.
